    So… Seamaster 300 or Diver 300?

  • @MarcOliverOpresnik

    Thanks for the great comparison. Without any doubt, I went for the Seamaster 300 because of its classic and vintage look which makes it more suitable to go along with jeans and suits alike and because of its 1957 heritage - I also love that the bezel is fully lumed!

    The SM300 is one of the most underrated models in the Omega lineup. The updates to the new SM300 put it above the SMP for me. They’ve made it thinner, shorter, and removed PCLs and polished the flank of the bracelet instead. No HE valve and a tapering bracelet makes the SM300 the winner for me.

    I like the vintage feel of the 300. It’s like an omega alternative to the Tudor bb58. Just worry about long term serviceability with the jumping hour hand. Almost wish it didn’t have that.
    I also hate the tip lollipop seconds hand. It just annoys me, but I’m sure it would grow on me over time

    I bought the Omega Seamaster 300 blue dial and would agree with you 100%. The vintage vibe on the Seamaster sets this watch apart from most watches today and feels like quintessential Omega. Best of both worlds (vintage and modern.)

    Date or no-date, to each their own, but I don't understand why people with no-date watches don't use the dive bezel to manually set the "date". The first minute marker is the first of the month, the second minute marker is the second, etc. You have the simplicity of a no-date watch but you still have the information if you want it, and all you have to do is turn the bezel in the morning. 🤷‍♂️

    I bought the heritage 300 as my first luxury watch. Sadly I got sick of it real quick and traded it back toward a sapphire speedmaster a few weeks later. I felt the dial was pretty boring and felt the numerals kind of disappeared and were somewhat hard to see. It doesn’t pop much. I thought the lollipop was cool at first but got sick of that too. I would like the white printed numerals and the pointed second hand of the previous version on this model, then it would be perfect to me. Now I’m considering adding the diver 300 to go alongside my Speedmaster.

    The SM300 is the most underrated watch in Omega’s lineup, imo. I find it is rarely discussed in the “diver discussion” it seems on forums or groups. Put it against a Sub ND and it offers significant value - coming from a past Sub owner. Going to look at the SM300 tomorrow, if AD offers me a solid discount like he normally does, I might just walk away with it.

    The new 300 is almost perfect. I find the crystal reflections bothering me, considering there is no outer AR coating. Though, of course, no outer coating means the crystal should last longer. It's a trade-off, but I think the clarity of outer AR wins me over. Also, 39-40 mm would be more timeless.

    • @stevehs4287
      @stevehs4287 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree on the size . I tried one on in the AD and although it’s 41mm it looked larger than my 42mm speedmaster . The relatively thin bezel and bigger dial creates this illusion . If it was 39-40mm I would have bought it on the spot as it is a beautiful piece - just looks off on the size paired with the heritage vibe .

    If I were to only have one watch, the 300 would without a doubt be my choice. You could somewhat easily pull it off with a suit as well as with a t-shirt. The vintage aesthetic is very versatile. But in a collection, the SMP is what I would go for, because it's way more exciting. The bracelet is the biggest downside in my eyes, uglier and doesn't taper, but it looks amazing on a NATO strap and I just love the white dial and black bezel combination. I do wish the bezel was lumed on the SMP however.

    The Diver 300M is by far the more contemporary looking device. And if I were a pro diver that uses something like that as a backup when actually diving, that’s the one here I’d go for, but I’m not! I much prefer dressier more vintage looking watches like the Seamaster 300 here. That’s the one I’d take home with me. My favorite variant being the Bronze Gold…gorgeous! Isn't the 8800 a single-barrel movement? I'd love to see a comparison of the new 300 models: black vs blue!

      I haven’t seen the blue on bracelet yet, but I would love to do a side by side!

    The hands on the diver 300 are a complete deal breaker for me: they are horrendous. That watch with the sword hands from the previous version would be fantastic. As it is I'm looking at the bronze-gold Seamaster.

    Does the seamaster 300 lose its legibility in some lights and angles? I feel like on some shots that dial is completely washed out

    • @MinuteMon
      @MinuteMon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the OMEGA Seamaster 300, yes because the hour markers and numerals are recessed beneath the dial. In lighting conditions no problem, but in low light and if there isn't enough lume then it'll be harder to see. When compared to the Diver 300m, that has applied numerals so regardless the angle the hour markers are clearly visible.

      @@MinuteMon thank you that’s the info I needed because I’ve been to the boutique several times and it looks perfectly legible there but I’m a legibility freak and if I bought it and then left the boutique and it was hard to read I’d be super upset

    12:24 No, the diver has only 1 barrel, not 2. Seamaster 300 heritage has 2 barrels indeed.

    I just wish Omega would offer a fully brushed bracelet on the 300 version, it would look and wear so much better, those polsihed links would scratched like crazy, please, please, please sort this out Omega!! Its the only think stopping me buying one.

  • @jimg518
    @jimg518 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 300 for me. It has no HEV and it just looks better. I’ve never liked the wave dial on the 300M nor the skeleton hands. And the bezel is hard to grip and turn without the coin edge type of bezel. If I didn’t own a Breitling Superocean, I would buy the 300 hands down.

    Both great although I slightly prefer the vintage offering. A massive jump in price from the bb58.

    • @MinuteMon
      @MinuteMon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes an increase of price from the BB58, but the OMEGA is Master Chronometer, sandwich dial, tapered bracelet with micro adjustment on the fly, full lume aluminum bezel, lollipop seconds and a full sapphire crystal caseback with 300 meters of water resistance. A lot of "improvements" and differences between the two in general.
