The REAL TRUTH About This Omega Seamaster!

- The Omega Seamaster 300 Co-Axial Master Chronometer is a dive watch harking back to the good old days! No signs of wave dials here as this one was inspired by the 1957 release! But does it live up to the pedigree and do I recommend it to you?

The bezel is actually a lot tighter than the previous, non-sandwich version of the 300... which tells you how loose that one was. I bought this used at a price I couldn't pass up, but wouldn't have paid full price for it. Cool video, you magnificent weirdo. Thanks!!!!
I had both as well, this model is a great step in the right direction for Omega, but still a little way off from being the best it can be.
4:57 “METAS!”
Bro, you’re hilarious. Had me in stitches HAHAHHAHA 😂
Unfortunately I don’t get the reference.
I had the previous version of this with the ceramic bezel insert. That one had polished CENTER links on the bracelet, and a flatter domed crystal. Beautiful watch, I love vintage divers, but there was just something too......."much" about it. When I replaced the bracelet with a sort of "warm" gray tropical strap, it really brought out its aesthetics, IMHO. When I heard that the new one would have more of a box crystal with a thinner case to make up for it, I sold it to get the new one, but haven't found one priced right for me yet. My bezel had no back play, but it was just a bit looser than I would like. I also wish they had kept the ceramic insert. Oh, and the older one had the Arabic numerals printed as I also prefer. In retrospect, I wish I had just kept the old one and sent it back to get the new box crystal installed.
Am so glad they didnt make this 39 mm! Have had mine for over a year now. Excellent piece. GADA watch for sure.
Awesome my friend!!!
Yeah not sure why ppl love small dials. Legibility and wrist presence mean nothing? Unlike the 300m this watch has a smaller bezel so the size is so that the dial is very legible.
I can’t help but think that a Baltic Aquascaphe gives you so much of the same feel but a better bezel for a fraction of the price
And better looking
The bezel on my Seamaster 300 Heritage is perfect.🤷🏼♂️
I bought the Baltic as an everyday watch and during the 14 days of allowed return time I couldn’t help but compare it to the Seamaster I had seen at a dealer. Yeah it was nice, but you get what you pay for. The Seamaster is on another level, but yeah 10 times more expensive. So I sent it back and bought the bullet for the SM. But yeah the Baltic was amazing for the price.
Omega and Baltic are leagues apart, actually incomparable. I have a baltic mr01 so no snobbery here but cmon, Omega vs Baltic…. Really?
To compare Omega and Baltic you have to be nuts. It’s like to compare Porsche with Seat.
Thanks, Russel. Very helpful review.
Love your analysis. Lots of useful content delivered in a most entertaining way. And tell your wife I really appreciate her honest reactions.
After your review , I am glad l bought my Speedmaster master crono and will stick with my CWC diver for the time until the itch takes over again !
Great review 👏
Ever since I saw this similar design in spectre ( with the 12 hour bezel) it became my favourite omega seamaster (aside from the aqua terra). But I bought a lorier recently and given the specs I think I’m good with that one!!
The only omega I would buy today is the 57 railmaster!
This makes me think you should get hands on with the Oak and Oscar Humboldt GMT. Some similar design queues but with a 39.5mm case. I own one and love it. And the bezel action is superb!
Also, I love my Omega Aqua Terra, but after 9 months of ownership (purchased new from an AD) I had to send it in for service. They said it got magnetized!!! I have 3 Tudors and none of them have had any issues.
This year I bought the blue version and I do really love it. I tried on several other dive watches before and this one hit the spot for me. The bezel action doesn't bother me very much as overall in my opinion it is an excellent watch. In my search I found that the Submariner isn't available for a reasonable price, any watch with a rotating diving bezel under 40mm looks too small on my wrist, anything over 43 is too big, the Breitling Superocean needs a different movement, and I don't like the bracelet and helium escape valve on the 300M. I do really like the Glashütte SeaQ, but that was out of my budget this time. So I am very happy with this one and really appreciate it in my watch rotation.
I also had one of these Co-Axial Masters and liked it but sold it to get the latest one, which I never got around to finding in my budget range yet. I LOVE the Glashutte SeaQ but, unfortunately, a little rich for my blood.
I have the blue one too. It's fantastic. Only slight criticism is the lume is nowhere near as sharp as my much cheaper Tag Aquaracer
Great show, Russ. Good to see the band back together! (Agree, those numerals are WAY too skinny.) 👍
Any day with a new MWC video is a great one!
very interesting, I got mine from an AD and the bezel action isnt lose at all.
Looks great. Good points. Love it.
Not a huge fan of modern Omegas, but this one is a beaut! Love the look! Love a sandwich dial I wish Omega would get away from polished bracelets, not a fan of that at all. And I 100% agree, for the price (actually less) I'd rather have a Tudor, a brand I like better, designs I like better and a better price! Great review Russell! Thanks!
That bezel looks like the 9ne on my Steeldive SD1962 (62MAS clomage). Actually, the SD has a tighter fit going by looks alone. It IS fidget-able, bc it is so loose, relatively. TBH the bezel action HAS grown on me. It feels sorta cheap, but oddly satisfying to spin and set.
I love Omega. I own 3 different versions of Seamaster divers. That being said, I agree with your criticisms. I have one of their heritage Seamaster divers and although I love the watch, I wish it were smaller and lighter. It makes no sense at 41mm. I also agree Omega needs to improve their bezels. It's almost like they overcompensated from the 90's 300m bezels that were vey difficult to rotate (another Seamaster I own) and went too far in the other direction. Thanks for another great review! Hope to see a Planet Ocean on the channel soon!
Absolutely!! My quest will not stop till I find an Omega I want!! Although it maybe 30/40 years old!;)
Even cutting it down to 40mm would have been a vast improvement.
After trying every family of Omega on recently at an AD, the PO 39.5mm is literally perfect for my 6.75inch wrist. If I didn't already own too many divers I'd have bought it. Saving for a Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich instead 😅
I have the bronze gold version and am buying the stainless one very soon. This is my favorite watch by far.
Step one: Obtain an Omega Dive Watch
Step two: Destroy the bezel action
Step three: Hand to Russ for review.
Hahahahahahaha
He likes cheap shit, that’s his thing.
The bezel action on my Seamaster 300 is as good as on my BB58, my Sea Dweller, my Pelagos LHD, and so on. I've not problems with this watch at all. And yet everyone without this watch complains about the "loose bezel action". Russ, the watch, which was send to you, is defect!
I agree about the defect, when I recevied mine, the bezel was loose and thought the 12 marker was aligned, after while I noticed it was not aligned, unfortunate that this is considered a normal production model to them and this qc issue was unacceptable. I sent it in to omega and I even requested the bezel to be tightened and when i got it back and tested the bezel. Game changing. No play the deep thuds on each marker is unique to this watch. I tried plenty of divers bezels before and this is up there with submariner, but with a different taste. disappointing that something like this happens with a costly watch....
Shut uuuup!
Great video. Humour always welcome. 😂👍
I've tried this one out and really liked the look. Then i turned the bezel 😢 instead of a six grand omega it felt like a £60 ali express watch. The 58 is safe in my collection too.
Exactly!!!!
Owned this model myself and this is the exact reason why I sold it. The bezel action is absolute garbage. Also wasn't to keen on the "reverse" brushing design on the case, too dressy for me as an everyday watch.
I’ve a friend who is an Omega freak/nerd/collector and he says Omega are losing their way, even if only a little. That being said he doesn’t want this to become a lot. He, like you, rates Tudor, highly. Thanks for another excellent video. (I’m a recent subscriber of yours and I have to say I do like your content, your style and your humour is second to non. Don’t change mate!) 👊🏻🙂
Same here……same here……
I appreciate this a lot my friend thank you!!!
Yeah, I think Omega is trying too hard to "keep up with the Rolexes". They should use the Tudor playbook and keep their watches more attainable and "toolish". And I really wish they'd downsize their divers somewhat. The only thing about the Black Bay is that Rolex look I can't stand. I wish they'd make a Black Bay with square indices like some of their original military divers, I'd love that. I wonder, if I bought a Black Bay and sent it to them to replace the indices with the square ones from the Pelagos, would they do it?
No.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR You’re welcome, credit where credit is due.
57 is my birth year …I would love a watch from that vintage, to match mine !! That vintage Omega may just fit the bill!
Tried the 300 on and was blown away and then I put on the Auqua Terra day date pretty amazing closest to perfect .
I agree on this bezel action 100% i held one in hand a year ago and it was just bad, loose and flimsy feeling. Good looking watch though
This was my first watch purchase in April 2023. After having it for a few weeks, it just wasn’t doing it for me. A month later I traded it back to my AD toward a sapphire sandwich Speedmaster professional. Lost a few bucks, but couldn’t be happier now!
I was tempted by this one when I was looking for my milestone birthday watch last year. I liked it more than expected. Omega really should put that jumping hour feature in more models. Note that it's also in the 41mm Aqua Terra, but NOT in the 38.5mm models. That's quite frustrating. Anyway, I prefer the sandwich dial to the previous printed numerals model, but the critique on the numerals at angles is valid. I would have preferred a polished center link like on the old model if something has to be polished, but I'd prefer all brushed. This watch was comfortable on my 7 inch wrist and I had no issues with the size. I wonder how a white lume version of this watch would look, especially on the blue model. The blue Black Bay 58 is probably more than a match at a dramatically lower price though, and has that white lume. If Tudor adds the T-Fit to the BB58 line, it will be pretty much perfect. The bezel back play is very disappointing for such an expensive watch. It should be built like a tank at that price. I had that issue with the Mont Blanc iced sea diver I tried on. The significant back play was just disappointing, but I liked the rest of that watch, including the quick adjust clasp.
Unfortunately I have back play on mine as well. Not a deal breaker, just disappointing
That bezel play is not typical.
That’s what people tell me!
Have you tried a 39.5mm Planet Ocean? The bezel on mine is nice, and it wears quite well for its weight and thickness.
Nice watch, own two Omega watches, the 90’s Bond and a 60’s Seamaster, love them both but they do have their shortcomings. One thing I will say, up against their biggest rival, The Crown, they do give great vfm. Overall Russ, like yourself, I am now totally in the Tudor camp, they can do no wrong. Have a look are salmon dial Royal, even with your Roman numerals allergy I’m sure you love this one. Great show as always, cheers mate 👍👍
Are? at their….ffs.
It's giving me urges and I don't understand them... he he he!!! Love this video Mr. Mad Watch. My wrist check is a Squale Tributo blue on a black mesh bracelet!
I love the sandwich dial it’s the best feature of the watch in my opinion.
True! But for me not in the numerals! But how cool is it in the dark!!!!
Hello! Great review again. If you are looking for something rugged and military styled from Omega, you should definitely look at the Seamaster Railmaster (the 40mm one using the aqua Terra case). It has a fully brushed case/bracelet and houses a no-date version of omega 8800 Caliber.
Yes, that one is awesome but...painted dial for $4,000?
The rail master is a great watch.. no fuss no flashiness just pure quality..
@@JAY61ish Sure, but did you know that the current generation has a plastic spacer between the movement and the case? Ask me how I found out.
@@seabiscuit726142 interesting I didn't know. But since it shares a lot of similarities with the aqua Terra, then that would mean that it is the same for the aqua Terra then?
@@maxh9180 Hmm, hard to say, I never opened an Aqua Terra. TAG Formula 1 line uses plastic spacers, too.
The first edtion of this one has the sandwich dial with the indicators recessed and then numbers are printed. Im not sure which I like more.
On my bucket list mate along with a tudor black bay smiley , just gotta put some hours in lol, thanks for sharing
I always love to hear what the wife had to say. You could always do shorts with just what the wife had to say. The views would go through the Roof. Or even better, yet a compilation of what the wife had to say.
Great review again. What watch are you wearing in this video?
BB58;)
I’ve been wanting to purchase an omega diver, but there’s always something I don’t like about it. The bezel, the hands, the bracelet, etc. Maybe I’ll have to wait till the new bond film. Hope it’s an interchangeable bracelet like the Omega Paris.
You know, the watch you call the Bond watch SMP isn’t a Bond watch, whereas this one - with a different Bezel - actually is a Bond watch. (From Spectre) I know you’re not into your Bond particularly, but it is part of Omegas info really. Just had to say :)
Have a good one!
Kind of reminds me of the original blancpain fifty fathoms but without the overall finish. And also reminds me of the black bay line but it's also much more expensive, I guess you could justify it if you really want the coaxial escapement but I can think of better Omega watches that are even cheaper.
Nice but concur 39mm be for me + bor.. bracelet too 'ordinaire'...rather live with my fav 300 mil spec (in my dreams)...Good to see Kurt... back from vacation?...sometimes I swear it could be your brother?
I own the BB58 and the Omega Seamaster 300 1957 LE and the 300 is on the next level compared to the BB58, the flat link bracelet is a dream and finishing is superb. If any ones on the fence about buying a 300 I wouldn’t hesitate and better still if you can pick a 300 1957 LE up even better at 39mm.
I agree that if you want a smaller version get the LE. Funny how everything he mentions as a problem is fixed with the LE yet that is a watch that has few reviews. Rolex/Tudor fanboys are so picky. Blows my mind how they look past basic finishing and faux rivets on black bays 😂
Who’s they?? And who do you think reads your comment first?
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR lol not faulting you for owning the black Bay but some of your criticism of the 57 are also found with the 58 (bezel has faux patina). I think you prefer the fit of 58. I promise you the bezel play is a defect in the model you're looking at. I've had mine for a year now no back play.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR btw have you checked out the 57 LE?
Is it just a seamaster you’re looking to buy or omega in general. I personally don’t like any of the seamasters besides maybe the 39.5mm planet ocean but I still haven’t tried it on. Now the Speedmaster is just amazing! It fits like a dream and feels amazing on wrist. I’m talking specifically the newer models with the sapphire sandwich.
I never really realized they released like for like versions of this model for top billing, and more modernized versions for cheaper. similar to Seiko with their 62mas i suppose. Overall is a great design. when are you gonna get your hands on an Aqua Terra? maybe it'll finally cause you to fall in love with Omega😅.
Can't believe i'm saying this about this Omega. It's a binner! So many cons in the, brilliant as always, video review. So sad ☹
I own the trilogy version since yrs- sold most all others. They are such great beaters!
A $7,000 beater, right!
Lovely video! I am familiar with those METAS wet dreams
Where did you get this watch? I have this model and it is no way near this easy to turn or have this much play. I think it might be defective or worn out. You should evaluate another example.
Hi Russell, hope you can help, even though my question is off topic.. My dad recently passed away and I'm looking at a CWC Royal Navy 1983 Quartz Reissue. He served 22 years in the RN. Would you say this is a very good watch, even at the £899 price point? Thanks!
Are you and Andrew like friends now! :D Serious note: Yet another great video.
He’s a top lad;)
With a few hundred pounds more I will get the Speedmaster. In my opinion, the appropriate price point for a dive watch is within 5,000 pounds.
Submariners are not appropriate for you then? 🤔
@@exploretheinternet2334 I knew it😆! I think it is too expensive for a tool watch to be a tool watch for me. At that price point, I would choose something like Glashütte Pano or JLCs.
Buy a black bay 58 job done👍 great content mate keep them coming Russ
Hey man have you ever looked at the pelagos FXD.. like
You I own the bb58 blue.. and I’m considering the fxd. But not sure if both could co exist in my collection as I absolutely love my bb58 . So are they different enough? I’d be interested to get your thoughts man.🤙🏼
I think they are definitely different enough. Remember the FXD only does Natos so there’s a different look to start with! The case is bigger, the case is a duller silver, the bezel is busier!;) after having it in my hands and in my wrist I’m glad I got the blue 58;)
This & the Railmaster are the only Omega I would consider buying. I still prefer my Tudor 79220n
Big fan of Mr Pagani's Design House skits!!!! 😂
When you said "more importantly" I thought you were going to say next "what did the wife say!" 😊
Hahahahaha
This is my engagement watch and I agree with all your points, nice for someone to make a video about it!
It’s a tad bit top heavy but it’s actually 10x better on a nato strap. You’ll be surprised.
I wanted something I could wear everyday and still be dressy in the evenings and it does just that. The case is apparently 39mm but the bezel is 41mm which helps it stay versatile.
The Omega Vintage Compass.
Maybe that was the direction to go.
This is a great watch
Omega still messing around instead of reediting the 165.024
Yep! If they brought out a modern seamaster 300 like the original it would be a HUGE success!
Did you say this is not a Bond watch? It was Daniel Craigs watch in Spectre - brlilliant film and brilliant watch (apart from the bezel). Can't afford it but actually enjoy my very well made Corgeut (w/o branding, yeah!) which has a decent Miyota movement for under 100 bucks! Would I buy the original? Nah, if I don't accidentally turn super rich probably not. Stopped being a watch snob, so would go with a CWC quartz instead. Cheers Russ, always great fun! And thanks to your wife for brilliant and refreshing comments 😁👍
Don’t think this was the one in a bond my friend. That was discontinued I think! Let’s Corguet GO!!!!!
I thought I have misheard the £6500 price tag which is insane.
I know
Love this piece! ❤ As an Omeeega fanboi, what I will say about the bezel is that I've never had it lock up due to sand from a normal day at the beach. I suppose whatever works its way in can also work its way out with a good rinse afterwards. That said, I don't purposefully plunk it in the sand, either.
I think that you should try omega railmaster in whatever color. It’s vintage inspired, 40mm with short LtL.
Yes however I’m not sure I could recommend a watch over 4/5k with just a printed dial! I have that issue with the Ranger!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Your price restrictions really only leave you shopping at Tudor or Longines and then the finishing will leave something to be desired. You're maybe better looking at the Peter Blake 300m pre coaxial.
I don’t know why, but I see this watch and immediately think of putting it on a tropic strap.
Really interesting review. I agree its not for me either, its a shame Omega seem to get close to great and then fall away.
They've such a huge variety of watches on their site I wonder if they just don't refine them sufficiently. Im thinking a Sinn 556A RS would be a good Tool watch for you to review, not only because Ive just bought one....
You are spoiling us Mr MWC, Pagani and Kurt - super! I have to agree, this doesn't come close to the BB58.
Thanks my friend!
So excellent! (Your production...the watch is okay.)
Have a great day you Watchers.
Mr Pagani outdone himself 😛
I'm saving up for one!!!
Lollipop second hand is great and historically accurate but yes the numerals should have been printed in white. If they had just done that I would have purchased
“Look at what MY hour hand can do”!
Not sure if I like the numerals😮
Love your honest reviews Russ, your experience with Omega so far is exactly the same as mine... For the £? Hard pass.
Vintage Seamaster 30 is where it’s at
Oooh. That's very nice indeed.
Only problem... I can't afford one 😢
Top top top content thank you
I have this watch on right now, and my bezel is as tight as my black bay 58's. Has yours been somehow abused?
It’s not the tightness though my friend. A San Martin has a better bezel action than Seamaster . Doesn’t matter if it’s loose or stiff . It’s not what a 5k watch should have
Damn you TMWC and the TH-cam algorithms, you've won me over... 🙏🙏🙏 CLICK IT!!!
Hahahahaha
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Well done. A tip of the hat from across the pond Good Sir.
Love it, we don't want Compass vibes ! 😂
love that watch
So, it has a 41mm case...if it was 39mm, everybody would ask for a 41mm. If it was 38mm everybody would ask for a 42mm case and so on...
Might be my eyes but the pip at 12 on the bezel looks misaligned to the triangle at the same position. It’s off by a few mm to the right…? 9:15
Check out the Japanese only release dynamic 3 5202.51… got some sweet mil vibes
Have you reviewed omega planet ocean 39.5? It is the only omega with a nice bezel.
I could start up a new channel dedicated to Seamaster’s and I’ll never run out of content!!!!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTORTHEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Unfortunately I agree. And that can also be said about every single omega line. They have soooooo many models it gets confusing.
I think Omega is where value for money ends. The rest is frivolous.
Sometimes I wonder if value for money even starts with Omega. This is the rich mans Baltic Aquascaphe (price 580 euros on rubber strap).
@@dellwright1407 High five my friend! Testify!!
@10:39 it's actually 25,200 BPH or 3.5Hz, not 28,800. can check Omega site. not a big deal, but wanted to point that out
one of the watches i want to own
41mm? I want a vintage watch, not a station clock, not even on my 8.5" wrist. At £6,500 I'll stick to my Festina F20250/2
Or Invicta Pro Diver 9094OB
I am happy to say I own this watch.
I like it a lot, I even like the size.. but the sloppy bezel and the price tag would put me off personally buying it
makes the tudor look a real bargain....no idea what has happened to omega pricing recently, they have gone way up but quality doesn't seem to have followed
OMEGA fan boys will defend anything no matter how bad it is. It really cracks me up
Well this was entertaining!
Thank you!!
Great review. I agree with the Profession 300...too much "look at me" vibe. Iif I was ever going to hunt down a military inspired and tool-tastic Omega it would be the 2254.50 model ; a very much under the radar/cult-classic uber capable diver! Of course pre Co-Axial and a bit dated but lovely IMO.
If a Casio Duro can have a great bezel action at $70, then Omega has no excuse. Omega really needs to smarten up with their divers, at this point if I want a diver Omega is not where I'm looking, I've tried several and I can't love it.
Love the Beetlejuice book with What the Wife said...wicked clever.
Last year....i made it my MISSION to buy an Omega ..... I ended up with a Mission alright.....a MISSION to the blimmin MOON Swatch Omega...oh you get me ..... think i'd better CLICK IT at the end of the video 😂😂😂😂
