Not one Trump joke ...I miss those days ...don't watch Oscars or any other award shows or any late night shows anymore (same lame jokes over and over again)... To answer the Chris Rock question ...very simple generate box office receipts and you get "paid" and possibly nominated for an award ...Why don't the women who play in the WNBA make as much as the men who play in the NBA? Why don't they get movie deals? or huge multi-million dollar advertising contracts?

A comedians job is to be controversial. Chris hit the nail right on the head with this monologue. It made people think, it got a rise out of them, made them uncomfortable, might've even pissed some of them off. In fact it did, it was even on the news and its everywhere on youtube that people were tweeting about feeling uncomfortable. Nowadays people get offended way to easily. Its ridiculous. Great job by Chris Rock.

@@mrit4099 This was before the elections, and the Oscars controversy provided enough material for this monologue. As for your answer, the Oscars have never been dependent on box office results. It's very well-known that flops are often nominated over actual hits. Even so, it ain't that simple to generate box office receipts when you're not given the opportunity to begin with. Take the most dominant genre in cinema today: superhero movies. It's not a level playing field when you're required to cast a white actor for iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc... In terms of male leads alone; Blade, Hancock, & Black Panther are each a decade apart. Hell, Shang-Chi has yet to hit theaters.

Damn... That was bloody brilliant!!! Chris executed this opening speech so well, even while talking about difficult topics. He kept a level head and presented a perspective that many of us have never seen. Wow, I'm just blown away. If only everyone could be so frank when talking about controversial subjects. I commend his effort, and I strongly believe change is coming. Let's all hope this was a revolutionary moment for many folks in hollywood, and maybe we will actually see some black nominees in the coming years. The academy couldn't have done a better job if they wrote the script themselves, Chris was definitely the right man for this. Thank you for being so bold, humorous and honest, while shedding light on some much needed areas of hollywood😁🙌

The chimpanzee and another ape, the bonobo, are humans' closest living
relatives. These three species look alike in many ways, both in body and
behavior. But for a clear understanding of how closely they are
related, scientists compare their DNA, an essential molecule that's the
instruction manual for building each species. Humans and chimps share a
surprising 98.8 percent of their DNA.

@@JaIch9999 These are some childish student societies (called fraternity) in US universities that have some historical background, so weird traditions to be accepted in and be a member during the time. Basically help students socialize during the university education and provides networks for later life (may also provide dormitory, housing etc). Their names are usually like alpa beta gamma kappa kind of Greek letters, hence they're also called Greek-letter-organizations. One problem with these are usually gender based, male or female only and they usually exclude African-americans, and similar minority ethnic origin people by spontaneous social processes and end up being predominantly white Anglo-saxon christian ethno-cultural background societies. They amplify the white privilege by connecting people alike as brothers/sisters/friends to favor each other during their life and exclude others. Some say that your fraternity connections are more critical than your grades in university for your future career.

@@taxsi unfortunately this is true. Having connections goes a long way towards careers and the whites are subtlety reinforcing their privilege

@josh18230 No one was in pain here, there's different between pain and being comfortable. Most were uncomfortable because they are racist, so is the industry and Chris was pointing that out. The fact that you missed all that and went to pain is sad.

Aahhhhh yeah they were faking those Oscar winning 😆 laughs. Buuuut Chris had to ease their white sensibilities by strategically placing little soft zingers here and there to let them release some of that tension because some of those white men were about to 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. With the way the camera turned to Kevin Hart immediately after he was mentioned it shows that the direction was planned very accurately.
...which I'm not sure if it means that it was intentional, or if the cameraman messed up and wasn't ready when it was his turn.
