Came here to support Chris Rock, this one of my favorite videos online to watch of him, after watch just happened at the 2022 Oscars. No hate to Will Smith but Chris didn’t deserve that.
I love Chris Rock because his comedy is clean, and instead of making fun of things he makes light of a situation, he made light of the white oscars, and he made light of 9/11, he made light of the boston marathon. He makes political issues funny. Sometimes when something bad happens all you need is a bit of laughter to make it a bit better, and Chris Rock understands that.
What a crock of shit. The first thing I thought after a few minutes of this was "What's your fucking point?" America shouldn't Stand Up to terrorism? I love Chris Rock in the same way I loved Richard Pryer or George Carlin. Very few people have that perfect combination of intelligence, command of current issues; the sharp wit, satire and with an accepted profanity laced delivery that always works due to, I believe, his affinity for all races and people. I expect the biting profanity and PC incorrectness because it's coming from this nice guy who addresses any issue from terrorism to personal hygiene to relationships, always with incredible honesty and conviction in ways most people do not and I laugh even when my stomach hurts!
I think it was great that he realized the sensitive nature of the topic and even made a joke about that. So he really made an effort to get people to see his point of view. Instead of being a shock-jock with a "deal with it" kind of attitude.
I can't believe people were offended by this either. It's funny and he wasn't being disrespectful at all. Tragedy and comedy have always throughout history gone hand in hand together. It's his job to find humor where tragedy lives so we don't live a life full of sorrow and depression, to bring people out of that pit.
This is seriously the best comedy material I have heard in a long time. Chris Rock is fearless like Carlin. If only Rock had a better agent, people would remember him as one of the best comedians of the era rather than as the guy who co-starred in Sandler movies.
Bubba Bear - I said fearless. I did not compare Rock to Carlin. Also Carlin in his later days became more of a ranter and less of a comedian. The material was great and he threw light on the hypocrisies of our age but his standups became less comedy-oriented. I am not saying that Chris Rock is better but he combines both sarcasm and comedy and he is not a rank amateur. He is regarded by his peers as one of the top-10 standup acts of all time.
Seems like he has a great agent, already. This opening on SNL is proof of that. The reason he isn't regarded more highly by our nation is simply because he's not old enough, yet. He just needs to keep doing what he's doing. Time will handle how he is viewed. He's a top 10 comedian, for sure! Also...I've never seen him in a single Sandler movie. I have, however, seen "The Chris Rock Show." ;)
***** really apologize? everybody has the right to speak there mind, if you get offended that easy over something a comedian said i think i speak for the majority of people by saying you need to com down.
***** I couldn't disagree more. Also it's called COMEDY... sometimes in this thing called comedy... people exaggerate for the sake of humor. If you don't like it fine... but demanding apologies for art is absurd. If you don't like what someone is saying then stop listening to them. Everything goes in comedy.
***** Your opinion is stupid. Too many people think that certain things come down to opinion and nobody is right... that is often WRONG. I am criticizing what you said because what you are saying is absurd. Nonetheless of course you can say it and should be allowed to.
I love Chris Rock and his perspective. I can't believe how many people lack a sense of humor. I lived through 9/11, my dad was a survivor from the 2nd tower, I served overseas for Operation Iraqi Freedom, etc. but you don't see me all bent out of shape. Chris Rock, you continue to be a relevant comedian, I APPLAUD YOU!
In my opinion, Chris Rock was spot on about the nature of contemporary Christmas celebrations in the West. The materialism, the pursuit of things, the pressure to buy gifts for family and friends and others, is something I don't share...anymore. I'm free of the madness that this holiday has become. And I truly understand the occasion is a Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This year we're going to have a merry 'ole time, as usual, and don't need gifts in pursuit of our revelry. The poet James Russell Lowell wrote that it's "Not what we give, but what we share, for the gift without the giver is bare." Our very presence, our precious time and love, means more. Through the year I'll give presents and time to loved ones and others. Why...just because. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I love Chris Rock, and anyone who criticizes a comic for the material in their act is taking life way too seriously, in my opinion. I, myself, don't choose what I do or don't believe based on what comics have to say on the (given) subject. Also, if I find their material offensive, I just don't watch them again. Good Lord, people, lighten up.
Personally, he does what a comic is supposed to do. He makes you think about shit. What most posters here perhaps don`t realize is that if you are arguing about the material and how it was delivered, then his job did what it was supposed to do: spark reactions. I don`t mention who didn`t think of it funny because that part is totally personal, subjective and valid on it`s own.
people are way too sensitive. you know what you're getting with rock, it's not barney. the first amendment was not designed to protect safe speech, but controversial speech. some americans you guys are. Always looking for something to cry, or sue about
The First Amendment was designed to protect political speech against the government, not to protect dumb-ass jokes about people dying in terrorist attacks. Stop with the faux righteousness about the First Amendment. It's embarrassing.
TMack1024 you need to go back to school. the first amendment/ constitution was originally intended for criticism against the government, but was left purposely vague for application through out different aspects of society, over the duration of the life of this constitution. that is what makes it a genius document-fine balance between strict and loose
***** Nobody is saying that the guy should be banned from telling dumb-ass insensitive jokes. But it is itself a joke to somehow depict it as being patriotic to do so. Have we fallen so far as a society that we now place as high a value on lame jokes as we do on real political dissent? The town crier and the village idiot are now on equal footing. Very comforting. “People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought that they seldom use.” - Soren Kierkegaard
+sulezraz I do find it sad that the joke was based on those you jumped out of the building but when you get mixed emotions like sad and happy at the same time it causes you to not wonder what the joke is about. I apologize if you disliked my reaction towards it. it was a selfish act of mine
Am I the only one who actually thought this was funny? It wasnt the funniest shit I have ever heard in my life, but those Martin Luther King sales pitches were comedy gold!
And that wasn't that offensive. That was more like showing a cross for Christmas. What those idiots did in San Antonio would be more like selling nails at discount prices on Christmas.
Pot metal nails are worth something, at least. Speaking, of Hardware Stores, remember "Mamas Family." I would like to see that family, resurrected, yesterday
I think it's funny that people think this is offensive. To all that were offended- quit crying. It has been 13 years, get over it. 100 people die every second of the day and I guarantee you don't care. Also, comedy has nothing off limits, to get over something it is best to laugh at it. And I was definitely laughing at this.
***** thank you. joan was a bartender with no soda. straight no chaser. chris just put things in a different perspective. no disrespect or anything. i can understand after 26 miles and someone said run. people have no logic system now.
Since I've been a fan of Mr. Rock his subtle awkwardness has intrigued me. But when he's in the zone, you'll see nothing the most confdent man. #3 on my list of top standup comedians ever.
At the 6:40 Mark: "The same way I can't drive a NASCAR down the street, I shouldn't be able to have a Machine Gun in my house, across the Street from a School". Makes sense to me. Machine Guns, unlike assault rifles are illegal. But that's poetic license on rock's part.
When you can kill 50 people with one assault rifle you've just bought online in Georgia with no background check, you don't really need machine guns to be illegal... Let's go further then: the 2nd amendment is to overthrow a tyranical government, but we all know guns wouldn't be enough against government drones, so why isn't the NRA advocating the free sale of plutonium and predator drones ?
He's right about the so-called holidays, especially Christmas. Many people pass right on by the ONE day they set aside to thank God , and just go full speed toward the what -did -I -get -for -Christmas day. It seems that , in many states, they are doing their so-called Black Friday shopping sprees on Thanksgiving day. And we won't even begin to discuss the behavior of many adults during this shopping frenzy. It's sad.
Chris Rock absolutely fucking KILLED the monologue on SNL last night. I mean, it was the best opening, ever. No gimmicks, no BS, just a comedian making you laugh. "No bling on Jesus" LOL Obviously, I'm a huge CR fan. He's my number one comedian of all time. He knocked it out of the park last night.
I listened to the sketch. I don't think Rock was in his best form--- and maybe that's because his humour is very blue and he obviously can't do that type of routine on SNL--- but I don't see the big deal about the jokes themselves. Actually, I do see the big deal--- I just think it's bloody hypocritical. I'm sure the people complaining are the same people who have laughed at jokes about paedophilia, domestic violence, the Unabomber, forcible sodomy, slavery, and Achmed the Dead Terrorist.
I refuse to go shopping in or around Thanksgiving. Deals or not, as someone who's worked in retail, and the fact that many stores are now opening ON Thanksgiving, I cannot condone that practice and won't perpetuate it, either.
The part about the economist killed me, and the part about him realizing he needed a gun. I haven't laughed that hard at a video in a long time. One of the greatest to ever do it. The whole Christmas bit was delivered so well. Awesome. Cool.
Comedians like Chris Rock are important. There always needs to be a healthy supply of edge somewhere in the comedic landscape. It keeps audiences challenged, even if a few get offended.
That name-drop of Floyd Mayweather though, made me smirk at the little dig he threw in there about him. He ain't lying about the commercialization of things in this country, I really wouldn't be surprised if someone thought it was a bright idea to have a shopping sale on 9/11
For the past fifteen years I have stood in awe of Chris Rock's comedic brilliance. Much like Louie C.K., Rock has a unique ability to sum up the common thought on pretty much any issue. Again, like Louie C.K., Chris Rock also has the ability to pull off a great joke about a painful event/issue. Well done.
Always loved Chris. So sorry about the ASSAULT from Will. Keep rockin Chris!

Good Lord, people, lighten up.
A lot of people take their petty symbolism way too seriously.
"I leave symbols to the symbol minded" - George Carlin
Personally, he does what a comic is supposed to do. He makes you think about shit. What most posters here perhaps don`t realize is that if you are arguing about the material and how it was delivered, then his job did what it was supposed to do: spark reactions.
I don`t mention who didn`t think of it funny because that part is totally personal, subjective and valid on it`s own.
Good point!!
people are way too sensitive. you know what you're getting with rock, it's not barney. the first amendment was not designed to protect safe speech, but controversial speech. some americans you guys are.
Catnip162
both of those attacks were not terrorist attacks in the typical sense. you have been deceived. do your research.
***** Oh so you're a conspiracy theorist too. NOW I'm starting to laugh a little!
good original material!
He can keep it clean and still be hillarious. He is that good.
he got jokes but its based on actual events. you never run out of material. unlike Kevin Hart who does the same jokes from what now.
These lobsters are so good that you'd be jumping out them windows.
Oh my lord. that was sadly a good joke, but sadly. A very very very sadly but clever but very sadly joke.
Stayna Alexandre see how that joke made you feel. That is controversy right there.
+sulezraz I do find it sad that the joke was based on those you jumped out of the building but when you get mixed emotions like sad and happy at the same time it causes you to not wonder what the joke is about. I apologize if you disliked my reaction towards it. it was a selfish act of mine
How? It doesn't make any sense.
Am I the only one who actually thought this was funny? It wasnt the funniest shit I have ever heard in my life, but those Martin Luther King sales pitches were comedy gold!
He Can't get over the fact that once he worked at the Red Lobster as a waiter!..
- Bring me some more tails boy!.. (White Slave Owner)
You clearly weren't
That was a very long and clever "fuck you America" joke. Not comedy.
IMO, this remains the funniest monologue on SNL ever
It's crazy how he said people would commercialize 9/11 and there's a video trending about a 9/11 mattress sale
And that Walmart Coke display.
And that wasn't that offensive. That was more like showing a cross for Christmas. What those idiots did in San Antonio would be more like selling nails at discount prices on Christmas.
Note to self: Buy a hardware store.
I was dying at this *no pun intended*
kikiwest2001 Well, I was trying to not be too plain, things usually crash and burn when it is.
Joan Rivers was way more offensive...and pretty funny, as well!
***** thank you. joan was a bartender with no soda. straight no chaser. chris just put things in a different perspective. no disrespect or anything. i can understand after 26 miles and someone said run. people have no logic system now.
Word !!
One of the best comedians of our age.
Gotta love Chris Rock! The funniest comedian, ever!
OMG... Hilarious!! Great set Chris Rock
Since I've been a fan of Mr. Rock his subtle awkwardness has intrigued me. But when he's in the zone, you'll see nothing the most confdent man. #3 on my list of top standup comedians ever.
At the 6:40 Mark:
"The same way I can't drive a NASCAR down the street, I shouldn't be able to have a Machine Gun in my house, across the Street from a School".
Makes sense to me. Machine Guns, unlike assault rifles are illegal. But that's poetic license on rock's part.
+rdelrosso2001 Yes. Poetic license. Just like you can't drive a "NASCAR" down the street. But we all know exactly what he meant.
These rifles are just regular rifles. Bet you did not know THAT.
"Does this building duck?!" 😖
That building better win a game of duck duck goose with a plane
What a great monologue! Classic hilarious stand-up :)
Of all the current crop of comedians,he makes the most sense.Add that to the fact he's funny as fuck!
*Majestic.*
His prediction is on point. Somebody made mattress sales on 9/11 anniversary.
I saw him Live in Philadelphia.
He was AWESOME.
Brilliant! Love Chris Rock!
It's sad.
I've come back to this video so many times. Easily one of the best monologues in recent memory.
Chris Rock is the best!!!!
I keep coming back to this monologue. It’s perfect. And to top it off, he finishes with “Prince is here!” What an episode.
"If you hear me talking about a disease, I got it" 😂😂😂
The videos that show up in your feed after searching "Chris Rock" for the last week. Great monologue!
This is the best monologue ever!!
This man has never disappointed me with his stand ups.👌✔Chris
I love Chris Rock! At the beginning of this, he seems either a bit nervous or a bit hammered. :)
...yes, or a bit high. A little something something...
Chris Rock is still and always will be one of my favorite comedians.
I'm just here because Chris predicted MLK Jr being sold out but from Dodge not Toyota.
J L fr. I was thinkin the same thing 😂
Chris Rock absolutely fucking KILLED the monologue on SNL last night. I mean, it was the best opening, ever. No gimmicks, no BS, just a comedian making you laugh.
"No bling on Jesus" LOL
Obviously, I'm a huge CR fan. He's my number one comedian of all time. He knocked it out of the park last night.
if you didnt like the Boston or 9-11 comment think about Thanksgiving.
Nothing is sacred in America !
+mario jefferson On Thanksgiving , we literally celebrate a massacre. great point.
Damn good point
I think the fact that we CAN make fun of anything is what makes us so great.
Chris rocks🥂
One of my favorite stand up bits ever.
Still one of the best around, so smart and straight shooting. I watched just for his monologue.
We need to protect this man at all costs. ✊🏾
I love Chris Rock! His stand up is always very good and tonight's monologue was great.
Chris Rock is absolutely brilliant in his material 😂😂😂
The part about the economist killed me, and the part about him realizing he needed a gun. I haven't laughed that hard at a video in a long time. One of the greatest to ever do it. The whole Christmas bit was delivered so well. Awesome. Cool.
It's just 8 minutes of comedy gold.
This was great! Made me laugh the whole time. Love from Dallas💞
Comedians like Chris Rock are important. There always needs to be a healthy supply of edge somewhere in the comedic landscape. It keeps audiences challenged, even if a few get offended.
So so good. The man just nails everything.
The Freedom Tower thing is so COMPLETELY true.
Rock>scissors...and Smith.
This is why I think Chris Rock is the funniest comedian in the world today....great stuff
That name-drop of Floyd Mayweather though, made me smirk at the little dig he threw in there about him.
He ain't lying about the commercialization of things in this country, I really wouldn't be surprised if someone thought it was a bright idea to have a shopping sale on 9/11
The man is gifted.
genius... George Carlin would of loved this set RIP
Well done.
No will smith allowed
You the best Chris !!!!!!!!!!!!❤️
Wow, Prince performed that night? Gives me chills, this really wasn't that long ago. RIP Prince
Overrated. The Weeknd is better
@abdi All hail the king of douchy comments
+Aran Bal Prince never made "Can't Feel My Face"
The Weeknd can't even spell his name right.
diebydeath 💜
