There needs to be a level of professionalism and civil behavior. Yes, some 'comedy' goes too far or is not funny, but to resort to assault was dreadful. Apart from the theater audience, there is an audience at home, and this is Hollywood's chance to show its quality, its good side in a market of cheap streaming services.
Hugh Jackman would have to be one of the most likeable blokes in the entertainment industry. He's talented, down to earth, funny as a circus and can have a laugh at his own expense. What's not to love?
Would have? Are you saying he's not one of the most likeable blokes? He gets love from the nerd crowd for his Wolverine portrayal. He gets love from the Broadway crowd for his work in that department. He gets love from the academy for Les Miserables. Everyone loves him!
Man, I love this guy. He's just so down to earth and doesn't give a shit about being famous. Also, the guy is still happily married an older woman he met in his first screen debut. In Hollywood, that's really something. Makes me proud to be Australian. How could his mum run out of him?
Don't know his background, but most women who do leave are leaving an extremely violent husband, and cannot take the children because she hasn't the money or his power.
Can someone please tell me why they don't just do this for every single opening? It's so entertaining, problematic-free, actually celebrates the movies in a light-hearted way, and let's whoever performing be creative with it, which is essentially what the damn show is awarding lol.
Because there's rarely any Broadway stars these days that are interested in hosting the Oscars and that's unfortunate. Ariana DeBose is likely the closest one that someday and hopefully we will get to see her hosting the Oscars as she did it so well hosting the Tony Awards back in 2022 with her amazing "This Is The Round Of Applause" opening number. Idk if Neil Patrick Harris is interested again and Hugh Jackman is currently busy filming movies so there;s that

Apart from the theater audience, there is an audience at home, and this is Hollywood's chance to show its quality, its good side in a market of cheap streaming services.
You're probably right.👍
They need to bring Ricky Gervais up in that bih...He'll take care of it, lol.
We dont need more comedians, we need more Hughs
AND ANNEEEE OMFG
holy freakin fuck, i knew anne hathaway is a broadway artist and can sing... but holy fuck she nailed it on so many levels
I believe her voice is classically trained.
+LordShaitaan did you not watch les mis?
nope
+LordShaitaan you should watch her song to Hugh on the Oscars of 2011 (I think) :D
xxes11xx
nah cause Hugh is a real jackass ;)
This is legitimately the best Oscar host and the best Oscars opening. Period.
He trained where I live...PErth Western Australia :)
Best Oscar intro ever! They never were the same after this. Started with the studios.
He‘s divorced now.
Also why mention his mom? We don‘t have the full picture, as well it mustn‘t have been easy (pre)1970.
Random fun fact: Dan Harmon, creator of Community and Rick & Morty, wrote this opening monologue for High Jackman
I scrolled just for this comment, Harmon actually won a Emmy for this!
Also, Ben Schwartz, who voiced Sonic these days wrote some of the jokes for the opening monologue
I think this is the only Oscars Opening Number that I've seen get a standing applause. Go Hugh!
which is wierd because Niel was equally good if not better
No Neil Patrick Harris hosted the Oscars last year in 2015. His theme/song was 'Moving Pictures' and he had a duet with Anna Kendrick and Jack Black.
It's good. Try to find it if you can.
standing OVATION!! WHY am i here !~? WOLVERINE!!
Knowing this was filmed before Les Miserables - you could already see the chemistry ❤️
just had to look it up
Hugh Jackman did musical theatre long before television and movies
@@Kalani_SaikoI think he means the chemistry between him and anne
Props to Hugh for the best Oscars opening ever but also credit is due for Anne who's high vocal gets me everytime.
She was bloody brilliant! I had no idea how well she could sing!
Who would've thought that they would be together in Les Miserables 3 years later?
and she caps it off with nixon's classic pose too!
@@Duomaxwell02MI have a feeling they already knew it here and this was a clue they decided to drop
The writers of this opener won an emmy for this. Dan Harmon, Rob Schraub, and Ben Schwartz
Until now I was a casual fan of Hugh jackman. Now I think he's the greatest actor alive
true
Same here bruh
I keep coming back to this all the time. That duet is so wonderful, I actually want a Frost/Nixon romantic musical.
Its 2020 and still the best opening in Oscar history
I agree
You forgot Ellen. But yh, this is good
I agree
it will always ve the best one.
Jjlinny 2345 I’d argue Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were good hosts. So was Billy Crystal.
Both are great singers but OMG Anne Hathaway could really sing high notes. Very Beautiful.
More and more I appreciate her talent as an actress and very, very good singer.
Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway need to do more movies togheter, I need them to
les miserablè?
RR0aR i think that's the most obvious one, are there any more?
they should do more duets
I watched this a couple of times. ...you know how hard that is ?? He never stumbled or missed a beat. That was amazing
I love how he calls Anne Hathaway, "Annie" 😂😂😂
Everyone who knows her personally calls her Annie 😉
@Izzia Ismail im your First
And almost 10 years after this, The Greatest Showman released
Yep, and the producer of The Greatest Showman was the producer of this Oscar show. It was his idea to make Jackman as PT Barnum
The best opening number!
+Logan y Logan :O Y de repente un comentario de Logan en un video jaja.. Saludos de un fan de tu canal Logan xD
Un abrazo bro!
Logan y Logan a
Logan y Logan una leyenda frente a otra
Logan y Logan yes totally agree
7:08 gives me goosebumps after watching Deadpool and Wolverine
That's a nice blue and black dress Anne has on.
Lol
oh no you didn't
100% accurate
Omgg
+Charlie Drummond you are sooooo right
Can someone please tell me why they don't just do this for every single opening? It's so entertaining, problematic-free, actually celebrates the movies in a light-hearted way, and let's whoever performing be creative with it, which is essentially what the damn show is awarding lol.
Well Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab wrote it, so just hire them again.
They prefer to have a slap
😅😅😅😊😊😊😊😊😊 7:45
Because there's rarely any Broadway stars these days that are interested in hosting the Oscars and that's unfortunate. Ariana DeBose is likely the closest one that someday and hopefully we will get to see her hosting the Oscars as she did it so well hosting the Tony Awards back in 2022 with her amazing "This Is The Round Of Applause" opening number. Idk if Neil Patrick Harris is interested again and Hugh Jackman is currently busy filming movies so there;s that
When is NPH not interested in doing a musical number? @@800Ms-k6n
0:29 Hugh and RDJ............God help me🥺🥺
RIP............No other guys can Replace Iron Man & Wolverine😪😪😪
Amen dude, so sad, hindsight can be cruel
Yes😢
Now let's see them in a buddy roadtrip comedy.
I said it before and I’ll say it again and I’ve been watching the Oscar’s since I was six years old and this was one of the best Oscar opening performances ever
Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway are some of the 2 most talented actors alive today, they can do it all, act, sing, comedy, drama, and dance. love them
dannydoc1969. Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Neil Patrick Harris should host everything.
i wouldn't say singing too much
I want Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr & Johnny Depp work together.
Too expensive
And keanu
Same, but replace Johnny Depp with literally anyone else.
We all want that
Bring back Wolverine and Ironman in a Mavel Multiverse movie. Johny Depp can be a new Marvel villain/ hero ☺️☺️☺️☺️
Ok, 13 years after and this keeps being the BEST OPENING EVER! 🤩
Hugh Jackman is a LEGEND ❤️❤️❤️
Dude really can sing & dance. What an actor.
and at 4:59 was the time the director of les miserables had an epiphany of who he should cast in the movie.
His hair is beautiful, and so is his face damn
And also his body and also his soul and his Hugh Jackman
He is the sexiest man alive 2008😀
Hugh is just such a talented passionate artiste!!
Lindo
M Catherine W You said it. Hugh Jackman sure has a cute laugh.
I come back to this video every couple of years. I think of it at random times and it always boosts my mood.
i love how he has to stop himself from laughing it's so cut! i think he was the best oscar host
For me tied with Billy Crystal.
Am I the only one that teared up a little when he said "I'm Wolverine", gonna miss him so much:(
@Arty Bookworm well.. yeah 😅😪 x
@Arty Bookworm And well when eventually another Wolverine movie will come out, he won't be wolverine. He said he is done with the character and another actor is going to become Wolverine.
@@Kikiricki112024 😂
@@Kikiricki11he is the one and only Wolverine❤still now in 2024
Literally the best opening ever! And such an awesome ending with “I’m wolverine”
You know you're doing something right when the A lister stars give you a standing ovation after a performance
The best oscar monologue period. Anne was amazing 👏 Hugh is such a graceful performer. The ending has a separate fan base.
When Hugh scooped her up, and took her on stage I didn't know what the hell was going on, but when Anne started singing, I sat back and enjoyed it so immensely! My God! What a lovely voice she has!
Hugh Jackman is a global treasure that needs to be protected at all costs. Where is he right now?
Vasti Flores Check his instagram
Hundredth like
he's got great stamina ... singing and dancing and has absolute control over voice
I'm blown away by his performance oh my gosh it's absolute amazing!!! 🙇♀🙇♀
Agreed.
loved how he hadn't seen the reader so the segment for that was completely random, too funny!
