Vintage Shopping Hustle! | Chic Finds & Antique Surprises

- We're seeing and shopping with friends today in the Northwest's vintage marketplace! Downtown Centralia, Washington is so full of antique shops that we're making it our destination on a gray winter's day.
We stop first for a quick show-off of my selling space in Tower Avenue Antiques, where my case of western style and Native American items is stuffed with everything from Navajo pottery to artist bronzes. Upstairs, we've opened up the space like never before...but we're not here to tarry, we have new shops to see today!
So it's on to Shady Lady, where my friend finds garden art she can incorporate as soon as we enter. This stylish shop mixes antiques and vintage fashion and furnishings, along with some Boho home accents that show how you can work things from all decades into your decor! I find a fun set of comical mugs from an obscure 1940s Texas pottery, buy a 1930s damsel dresser jar at a great price, marvel at how inexpensive the painted French style pieces are here, and climb the magnificent staircase to a floor full of vintage and resale fashion...and the town's official bordello museum!
Then it's on to the town's original-and newest-antique mall! Centralia Square Antique Mall relocated from its eponymous building last year, joining the ever-growing strip of antique stores on Tower Avenue. The quality came with them, two floors of antique and vintage goodies that include fabulous Fenton and Pyrex, a 1930s bus fare box, unusual military and scientific items, primitives, kitchenware, radios...and a case full of really good toys! There's a lot to see here, and we use up all our time (and leave with a chandelier and a Pacific Stoneware vase) in the process!
What a fun and varied set of shops there are in this small-town antique center. I can't wait to come back with more friends soon!

Since getting hooked on antiques I have no desire to go back to a mall to shop. You are my favorite TH-camr because you educate us on these items plus you have a great sense of humor. I always look forward to watching your videos thank you George.
Me too
Same! So much more fun to give a new home to a handsome old piece that's full of stories.
Breathtaking dog bronze!!!!!
Agreed
George , I love to be educated , and entertained at the same time, and you definitely provide this❤😊
Have a great week everyone 💐
Interesting to see things that cannot be found in the Midwest!
Such beautiful items! The baskets at the end were especially cool!
The more comments the better to support George's channel. Share w your friends too 😊
George, you fascinate me with your knowledge 😊
I agree. If you like a new piece, mix it in! There are no Antique Police out there - nobody is going to stop you. And by blending styles together, you create a more eclectic, Boho space. i just love the idea of being surrounded by things I think are beautiful!
I agree! If there was a vintage police they would lock me up!!😂😂
Well said!
Thanks for the tours and sharing of knowledge! ✌️& ❤
It's always good to see ur videos
Id like to do another auction
Awesome show tonight!
I Always learn from George. Met him at the Extravaganza and he is just as wonderful in person as he is in his videos!
I met him in Spokane last year at one of his Very Large Estate Sales. He really is so nice & such a knowledgeable person! He took the time (while managing the estate sale) to answer any questions that I & many others had & made sure I was able to get around @ the sale as I'm disabled. I've learned alot from him just by watching his videos! He explains everything @ doesn't make it seem like you're beneath him because he takes the time to help & explain. I've had antique store owners treat me that way, and I've not gone back to their stores. When I can learn more online from a stranger that's so much nicer, that's not hard to figure out. George is one of the best out there for sure!
Thank you so so much! It’s so fun shopping with you- now if only I had money! 🤪
Good evening, George! There's a fish plate, with a kind of teal rim, in your space, that caught my eye. I'd really like to see another appraisal premier. Love that pickled bamboo. There was a celluloid cover photo album, under a table, next to the water bottle that looked really interesting. I like those things. I actually have one of the yellow Dr Pepper crates. There was a pond boat there that caught my eye, too. I liked that gas iron. Loved that Dietz lantern, with the blue globe. That tramp art piece was fantastic! That Flow Blue jardiniere was a beauty. I'd love to have some of that orange oil. That stuff is fantastic for antique furniture. That mini kayak was a WOW piece, for me! Loved that! If I had space, I'd love to have one of those tall case clocks, like that German one. There were tons of really nice and interesting items I spotted along the way. Those places would take a day to really see everything they had in them. Thanks for taking us along!
Has anyone ever told you that you're very knowledgeable about antique & vintage also? I love reading your posts to George. I usually have to go back & look @ whatever you mentioned because I look @ other things! Thank you for further teaching us!
Looks like a lot of fun and finds!
George, what an enjoyable video. I didn't want it to end. Parting is such sweet sorrow.
Je t'aime mon ami ❤
So much fun George. Thanks & Blessings Always
So glad I get to shop there!!! And Georges booth down the street at another mall
The old crank ice cream makers sure take me back!!! My dad would put a towel on top and I would sit on it so he could turn the crank LOL… seems like the ice cream was so much sweeter ❤️
That place is so cool… I must do that tour!!! Less than an hour from me 😍
I remember it getting stuck or my grandma yelling to add more salt- and me asking ‘why’- it was an exciting family event that you had to work for but sure did taste delicious on a summers day.
@@silvergirl7810 yes!!!! “Add more salt”… lol if only we could go back for just a little while 😍
I did the same! My granny would let me crank until it became to hard. 🥰 The ice cream was heavenly.
Super enjoying this; there is so much to see and so much info that I have to enjoy it in small bites, like a rich dessert! I keep having to stop, go take care of some other business, and then return and treat myself to some more!
❤love the colors on the reverse-painted? glass-framed mirror at 27:00 -ish
I love watching all your videos George. I love it that you travel around and show up with others that I love. So unexpected! ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Wonderful stores with so many fun items from the past. Thanks, George 😊
Lots of pretty vintage things
Thanks, George. Learn about history as well as items!!
You bet! I figure one begat the other
@@TheAntiqueNomad so true. Ever thought of writing a book about pottery companies in their regional contest?
Decked out in the traditional Centralia flannel.
The lavender glass bird was so beautiful.
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
I love watching your videos & I always learn something new! I love your booth setup too!
WOW I love the Fenton glass but also all the miniatures. I do make doll houses and their furniture. I like to keep my hands busy with the small stuff. Thanks for taking me along with you on this trip. You have a great day and safe travels
Hi George ,
Great video!
Keep them coming !
Thanks!
Always a pleasure, George, when you return to western Washington, and remind us of our treasures here.
I love watching you very knowledgeable!I learn so much from you.thank you George ❤
That is actually how I feel too!!
What a fun video! Thanks for posting!
Your Carl Wagner piece is really nice !! Thank u George for showing your area to us !
Thanks George
George, as always, thank you for sharing your knowledge. The booth with baskets, at the end of your video, is amazing.
I agree about pink coming back. It will go beautifully with all that grey that's out there.
Nice selection of old baseball gloves ⚾
Wow! So fun!
My dad used to wear Aqua Velva lol . My mom hated it . She was happy when I brought home a bottle of High Karate as a birthday gift for my dad . My father did wear it . But I think he only did because it was a gift from his daughter . Thanks for the memory George . Your booth looks fabulous as always .
Great video! Love Howard's products and used them a lot when I was selling furniture.
Haha aqua velvet! For me it's shower to shower powder.
Thank you for all the information. I hope I can remember it all while thrifting.😊
Hola George, tks for this awsome video 😉💕
I love flow blue
The Aqua Velva story - my gosh. Back in my college years a local bar threw a $1 tequila shot night... no need to explain further. I can't smell that stuff now without cringing. But getting sick off an AQUA VELVA derivative alcohol... that's a level of trauma I don't even want to imagine. ;)
If it were a day trip from Michigan, I’d be there PDQ! Thanks for another great show-n-tell!
Great video - thank you!!
This was a super video! My aunt and uncle lived in Orlando & Cocoa, I went down every summer, they had that same coffee table! It screams Fl.
🎉🎉fun
Thank you for showing the Shady Lady! That is exactly what I want for my business. What a great vibe❤
The blue clock was fabulous. Enjoyed seeing the native baskets as well. Thank you George.
I have always found that I go through fal in browns and then winter in blacks, grays and navy and there comes a day in mid winter when suddenly I crave COLOR. And that day is coming soon! I think that a lot of people get that. Days are getting longer, we are seeing more sunlight and we start thinking about spring and color. That is why it is good to put out your pinks, purples, yellowa now. We are all ready for a little pop of color!
Thanks for that advice. I've got a big sale coming up in April & will make sure to have the colors out! (And yes George, all the pink, too!) Lol
Agreed, living in rainy Washington made me appreciate color
Thanks for taking us on another adventure. Loved seeing your booth as well! Always so informative and entertaining thx George
Hi George and Xeno! This is a wonderful video. It's easy to tell you were in your element and hanging with a dear friend. That's always a good day.
I have a BOLO of sorts. I just learned that Zebra Stripe gum is closing or already closed production of their stripes gums. So candy collectors, ephemera etc. I believe the article said they had been around over 50 years. The article was a grocery news item about what products will be short supply this year. I'm having issues getting bunch carrots 🥕 I don't want those water whittled party snacks in my roast! 😅
We have 2 Walmart's near us and they carry different variety/flavors of the same things. 🙄
It sure is! I did feel like I was in my element, glad it showed. I love knowing about Zebra Stripe, it's a shame to see those old brands disappear!
I always love all the places that you go, and all the beautiful things❤
Hi George, Xeno and all
I really enjoyed seeing the wonderful things in Washington. If I had to pick a favorite collection, it would have to be the beautiful baskets at the end. Thank you for showing us, George. Always good to see you! 🙏💙
Fantastic!
Wow, what a great town with so many top notch antique centers! Thank you for sharing.
I really need to get down to Chagall and check these places out for the day. Thanks George for the tour as usual.
Hi George, I live in Olympia and visit the Centralia antique stores often including your booth. Hopefully will meet you the next time you come.
Loved this Boho store! I would get lost in there for days on end. Thanks for sharing this delight George!
I wish there were places like this in central florida…
I love the dresser jar with lady topper. They could be powder jars. They go well with my porcelin pincushion ladies.
Yes they are great together!
38:57 I HAD THAT COX CAR AS A KID
Loved the style of the Shady Lady I think mixing all those types of items looks great! We had that tile table you looked at when I was a kid and the legs eventually did fall off. I used the tiles to tile my dollhouse bathroom. 😂
Would love to see the kokeshi dolls @1:30
Good video I like the shop seen some stuff I like
Take care be careful HAVE FUN ❤
28:50 I HAVE THAT BLUE MOUNTAIN SWAN
I so love your booth 💜
Hi there everybody. Hopa all is well with each of you. Very rainy here in central Alabama.💚
Thank you, raining for days in Ohio ☔
Great shopping experience!
I like the pre-prohibition shot glasses. I saw prices as low as $25 which is cheap. They looked to all be in good shape too. These are hard to find at reasonable prices these days.
I drove up from San Diego last Fall and enjoyed visiting these stores. You are well know around Centralia. Hope to get back this Spring hopefully when you are up there. Gary
I hope to see you! Great thrifting and antiquing in that town
Yep the fare box is on my bucket list, too. Along with a parking meter. I did get my drive in speaker, though. My son is going to make it bluetooth for me. I love decorating with conversation pieces! Like my junk jar bubblel gum machine!! It didn't work anyway, so why not fill it with junk? It even has the key to the little sporty Toyota I wrecked in it somewhere. There were two stills in an estate sale auction recently. I got blown out of the water with the bidding. It was insane what they went for!
I've had a few parking meters, they make cool banks too! I only once have had a drive-in speaker, so cool that he can convert it.
Hi from Rochester NY, I watch your videos as soon as they come out but have been terrible about leaving commments. I’ll do better this year😊 Thank you for teaching all of us and for your kindness 🌸🌸
That’s one of the largest vintage clothing I’ve seen amazing things hope you were able to pick up that cool hanging lamp😊
Was it the 70s when we had colored toilet paper ? 😮😂 The Northern Girls . . . i Remember. . . i kept wishing they would make those girls into paper dolls 😂
I lived there and worked at the Star Antique Mall for awhile in 1976.
Tus videos son muy 👍 buenos , adelante❤😊
ooh those lights are cool !
❤
I learn so much every time I watch your channel. I’m in Oregon and I think a trip up to Centralia may be in order! I’ve never been but it looks like some great vintage/antique shopping 😊
So glad to see you and Centralia. Thanks for the tour!
We are headed to Centralia in March, excited to visit again.
Wow George. You're not in Florida, and it's a cold January day. Rather surprised. I'm subscribed, and love your channels. I like anything vintage or just basically old. I'm 67 years old, and started selling on EBay back at the beginning, when there were no rules really.. I've stopped selling there due to fees, rules, and shipping costs. Guess what I first sold on EBay? Magic Cards. Moved on to glass and pottery. Then moved on to books and paper ephemera, due to shipping costs. Then stopped completely due to the rules and fees. You seem to do a great deal of work and traveling to make your living, and I have to say I miss going to estate sales and auctions. But I don''t miss only thinking that I was working for myself, when I was really working for EBay. Sadly, where I live, I can't support a brick and mortar store, or any kind of thing that you do.. But i love all your channels!
Next time you go through KENTUCKY let me know ❤
Need a name for your store specializing in disco-era stuff? George just gave it to you: “The Vintage People”!
Alaskans come for the daylight...and their patrimony sitting in that one dealer's case!
👍🇨🇦🤗
I never saw a gas powered iron. That’s something else.
💖
I 2annt get some more Fenton and Westmoreland Glass
George just let me know what your looking for I have a great eye…. I’ll buy/save for you. 🤗
I had a water cooler bottle about two thirds full of pennies when I was married. We had a party one night and a friend bought her bore of a boyfriend who proceeded to get very drunk and tell everyone he could lift that water bottle up. Well, he did. High enough to get his foot underneath before he dropped it. The ambulance driver could not believe what a jerk he was.
Well now he's got a bragging rights story to tell & maybe won't be such a bore anymore! 😅
Donno - she broke up with him and I never invited him back! @@Sass-Glass
Ooh painful...and dumb...
The Shady Lady ! What a great name for a great store. Thanks for showing us around. Xx
Id like to do another auction
Same with dense fog in Indiana 😢 great evening to stay in at watch George❤
