Kid in my class: Who here is Spanish? (No one raises their hand) Kid in my class: You're Venezuelan (To me) Me: Uhhh..... yes... I'm not from Spain Kid: What's the difference *The body was never found*
The weirdest thing that I've heard a person say about my country (Uruguay) was: *"WOW, you've got Internet there?"* Seriously, dude, I don't live in a farm and wake up everyday at 5 am to milk cows.
- i am from Brazil - Oh, do you speak spanish? - no, portuguese - is the same thing... - no is not - whats the difference? - "eu adorei o seu sotaque" = "me encantó tu acento" THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE
Petter Zev I love it, and I'm Costarrican, plus she is giving two examples of the same sentence, "I love your accent" in Spanish and portuguese, sure some people didn't get that.
i am brazilian, and most of brazilians here are complaining about the spanish thing, but, there is also another thibg: OUR CAPITAL IS BRASILIA. NOT SAO PAULO. NOT RIO. NOT BUENOS AIRES (This is not even in Brazil)!
People hear that I'm from Nicaragua & ask what part of Mexico that's in. Drives me crazy every time. Also I always get asked "do you speak Nicaraguan?" -____-
Cindsrocksyo I had the same thing happened to me, I am from Venezuela and I was asked do you speak Venezuelan? I couldn't believe my ears, so I decided to play with them, so I said yes, and I speak Mexican, Colombian, Argentina, Bolivia etc..The lady answered me, oh you speak so many languages!!! Lol..so I smile back yes I do.....I can't believe people are that stupid!!
When I was living in New Zealand no one believe me when I said I was from Argentina, because I´m blond and milky white. The say: But people in Argentina is black! And also: NOT ALL LATINOAMERICA IS EL CARIBE! Argentina has snow, mountains, jungle, deserts and really ugly beaches. The worst one: WE ARE FROM AMERICA, BUT WE ARE NOT USA.
Yeah this real ignorant lady I used to work with when she found out my last name she goes "YOU'RE MEXICAN??!!" I chuckled and said "No my Dad was Cuban" I just laughed it off.
Accents. Sometimes people ask me if I was born and raised in PR because I don't have an accent when I speak English. I freakin live in PR. Not all Latinos speak like Sofia Vergara.
In fact, Chile is a cold country. Unlike many people may think about it, you know, "its a latin country, it must be tropical". Well, not, Chile is cold, in fact there are lots of ski courses, glaciers, fjords, etc..
Yes indeed, Im from the south of mexico and here we do listen salsa music and dance merengue, rumba, cumbia, etc. Everything but not the crap music of "corridos" , "banda" and those sounds of narco shit!
Soy chilena y salvadoreña; white people call me black, black people call me white, and latinos think I'm either Filipino or Puerto Rican.... I was raised in California and everybody always asks me if I speak Mexican
-What are you? -I am Latina. -Oh really, where are you from? -I am from brazil. -But I thought you said you were Latina. -BRAZIL IS A PART OF LATIN AMERICA
Not all of us can dance salsa/bachata/merengue professionally. Or in my case, dance at all. Not all of us are extremely charming and romantic and can get a date just by looking at someone. Not all of us have small noses... I think I'm letting out all my insecurities 😂😂😂😂😂
Walkiria Antelo I can't dance, I'm really bad with spicy food and those latina curves.... I have none and NO I AM NOT FROM MEXICO AND YES I AM SURE OF THAT
I haaaaaate when someone asks me "are you mexican?" and I respond saying " no, I'm actually Nicaraguan" and then they respond by saying "oh same thing" 😑 if it is the same thing don't you think I would have said yes to your first question?! This infuriates me! It's a completely different country!! And no I don't eat spicy food😠
do you really expect people (like if it is their duty to know where the fuck you are from) in their own country to know where your country is at?do you have a culture or anything that differentiates your country from others? if not stop complaining.
Actually yes, every Latino country differs in dialect, accent, food, tradition, and overall culture. No one country is exactly like another. For example, a Dominican usually has nothing in common with a mexican other than the fact that they both speak Spanish, and even then they speak using different words and completely different accents. And no one expects you to have the duty of knowing where we are from but if you ask and then have the audacity to make it same like "we are all the same" it can come off as pretty disrespectful.. It is also not "our duty" to have to try to alleviate some rude persons ignorance. Not trying to be disrespectful but this topics can get crazy. Being a Latina myself and also taking a Latin American studies class, I know what I am talking about. Sorry for the essay.
@@franciscougartr2415 dude. It's dumb when people know Mexico is a country. And you say I'm from a COUNTRY called Venezuela (my country btw) And they STILL think you're Mexican. Heck I tell people Im NOT Mexican and they STILL call me Mexican. I even tell people Mexican is a nationality NOT a race. So I'm just mad at people's ignorance, not lack of knowledge.
I have blond hair and freckles and when people see me with my dad they're like "Oh, that's interesting... I've never seen a Mexican with an adopted white kid." and I'm like "first of all: LATINOS CAN BE WHITE TOO!!! JUST CAUSE MY DAD IS SUPER TANNED AND I'M PALE AF IT DOESN'T MEAN I'M ADOPTED AND 2ND: WE ARE BRAZILIANS NOT MEXICANS!!! 😡"
@@yazanalkhalaileh9518 not necessarily, my parents are tanned...me on the other hand, I'm still pale AF, I don't like the sun while they do, there's the difference 🤣🤣
+Matthew Camacho I am Colombian also...and when you said "and no pablo escobar is not my uncle" i almost shit my pants!! is just really funny that they think that
+Matthew Camacho I´m venezuelan and i always think that the people of USA, knew part of our culture and global localization. Today, after 2 years living in the USA, i got some things to say. Random girl from medicine class, Venezuela is not a mexican state, Random guy from technology class, we know what a phone is, Random Guy from a unknown class, we are in some difficult times, so, the fact that we need to wait 5 hours to get the most basic things doesn´t means that we are a african country, Random Guy from unknown class, i´m venezuelan, not venezzian. I´m done with my rant.
It's insane how so many people think South of the US is all México Ive heard the phrase "Mexican countries" too many times. THERE IS ONLY ONE MEXICAN COUNTRY:. MEXICO!
And you can't forget the two most famous ones (probably): Cuba's Fidel Castro & Argentina's Juan Peron (Che Guevara wasn't a dictator but is also famous for similar reasons)
By their logic: If you're from any spanish-speaking country in Latin America, you must to be native or mestizo. YOU MUST! If you're from Brazil, you must to be black or taned. Oh, and dance samba while playing football too. YOU MUST! And if you're from any latin american country, you speak "Mexican."
+Leonardo Meira yeah I'm from the uk however my dad is Peruvian and I've had 4 people ask if I was Chinese because I was a similar colour to Eastern Asia lmao
I hate when people assume that you must speak spanish to be latino, I mean, i'm from brazil and speak portuguese but that does not make me any less latina than anyone else from latin america
6 - Not all Latin Americans speak Spanish, brazilians speak portuguese, Haitians speak French, Surinamese speak dutch...7- Southern of South america is very cold, don't come here with bikini!! 8- Have a lot white people in south america, only in Brazil has 100 million white people, is a third country with a largest Caucasian population in the world! And in Argentina 97 percent of population is white!
Dem numbers tho. NOWADAYS in argentina the population of PURE european descent is 70 percent. In uruguay this number goes to 87. In Chile it was something around 30 percent.
+Black & White - Americans are not familiar with Suriname so therefore they wouldn't refer to Surinamese has Latino. Ask the average American where is Suriname and they wouldn't know what Continent it's located let alone if they know if that country exist.
A young colombian kid came up to me and asked if I was Chilean cause i was wearing my chilean jersey. I responded yes. He then proceeded to ask me why i was so white.
YES. That can be very annoying. Or when they think Hispanic/Latino is a race in it of itself, so they assume you can't be Black or White and also be Hispanic/Latino, they just assume that all Hispanic/Latinos are Mestizos.
I never thought of cooking tacos. I know you cook them, but I never used that word for tacos. Me and my family always said "made" And no, you didn't ask. Just something I thought about
Misconceptions about latin america: If you´re from Argentina, then you love football if you´re from Colombia, then you sell drugs if you are from Brazil, you know how to dance Samba and on and on and on..
OMG I just love this channel... I just knew about flama because I'm Brazilian and saw the things we r sick of hearing... But this channel is amazing... In fact I'm really learning about some things of latina America culture... Keep it up... It's best channel ever...
I'm from Brazil and a lot of people ask if I live in the jungle and if I dance samba and I was like: “Dude Just stop” and sometimes they also ask if I speak Spanish
I am Hispanic and I love Portuguese. eu peguei aulas e tive (ou de did tirei?) boas notas. nao tive dificultades pra diferençar ás linguas. somente que misturo as palavras mesmas como agora, tirei vs peguei
MANGA ...and Latinos/Hispanics in USA usually refer to themselves as a race. I am Latino and I find particularly annoying this fact. The most interesting thing about our culture is precisely our diversity.
Slaying Greyjoy That's not my real name, of course... But no, I think I'm of Swiss heritage, I think. I was born on Argentina, though, like the rest of my family.
really. thats pretty interesting though. Because way back in the past a lot of people from europe immigrated to Argentina its possible that your grandparents where from switzerland.
person: "Where are you from?" me: "Ecuador" person: "What's that?" me: "It's a country." person: *starts to get confused* "Where?" me: "... In South America" person: "Hm, never heard of that."
Well you have to be honest no one has ever heard of Ecuador not even the own Latinos all I know of Ecuador and not to be mean are that they have the same colors as the Colombian flag a singer from CNCO it’s from their of course the Ecuador Line where it’s hotter and that’s pretty much it!
@@starvaleri8777 well...we have alike flags, with Colombia and Venezuela because we were part of something called Gran Colombia, I know you're just worried about your Instagram probably. But, if you know how much money Kim kardashian has I her purse this week, you could make an effort and read a little history about countries in American continent 😉 so then, you could realize about differences between countries and stop being so dumbass.
Hunter Havok Lol, I think you judge me too soon, yeah I also hate those type of girls. I don’t even get to instagram, and i don’t care about those girls 😂. I more interested on geography and languages lol. I still know a little about Ecuador last time I was about to watch a video about Ecuador but i was never mind. Yeah, I knew that they were together and that’s the reason why they have similar flags. In this case that’s all I know about Ecuador. But you are good, that was a great commentary about those type of girls that’s what I tell my friends lol. You can ask them about those girls and they’ll know everything! They just worry about their Social Media and etc. But I’m different 😌
In freshman year of high school I was in the advanced Spanish and someone asked "Are you Mexican?" and I replied with, "No, I'm Chilean." to which they respond with; "That's just the same thing." I then sat there with this look on my face 😐
First, there are Latins that don't speak spanish (like Brazilians like me, Italians, French, etc). But oddly (some) brazilians 'forget' that we are Latins too.
The problem is that in english, 'latino' is almost used in a pejorative context, the 'coorect neutral' term would be latin. In portuguese we have Just one word, so...
I'm white and I'm latino. Specifically, brazillian latino. No, I don't speak spanish, I actually speak portuguese - just like the whole freaking Brazil! - . Being a latino is a matter related to the cultural experiences acquireds of an individual, the perspectives observed on its daily life and mainly: self-identification. Don't get fooled by my surname, guys!
You are latino if you speak a latin lenguage in the continent america like; spanish, portuguese, french, italian, romanian being the most inportants and then, galician, catalan, occitan, sardinian, rhaeto-romance, leonese, aranese, picard, friulian, sicilian, etc
Born and raised in the USA. White people call me Hispanic. Sorry, I am not Hispanic. I am an America. In America, a person of Irish descent is an American. A person of German descent is American descent. A person of Latino descent is . . . Hispanic.
Rich X Maybe you will be paid by the Government for being Hispanic... No idea. I am not American so I do not understand much of your problems, but we have our own issues of that kind also. It is in the human nature to make "tribes".
When my sister went to France as an exchange student they asked her if Argentina had electricity, if she'd come by boat (instead of by plane, because planes are technology, or something?) and some asked her in what part of Spain Argentina was LOL.
I hate when people say 'Oh, you are from Panama, right? Oh they are still in Colombia or whatever...' UNDERSTAND WE ARE INDEPENDENT! They also say 'Oh that poor island?'
+Moth Queen That's a huge misconception, some people don't have that perfect mixed of white, black, and aboriginal that gives them that perfect Stereotypical Latino Brown, with nice Black hair! If you saw some one that 100% Black African, or 100% white European looking, you'd probably never guess that they can be Latins.
I just had a conversation with my class and I said. Oh I'm not white I'm Latino. Everyone got sooooooo angry saying " No you're white, look at your skin", "no you're American". " You're white" Let's just say I cried for hours after that.
Oh god I feel you dude/girl, I’m super insecure about how pale I am and it doesn’t help that my family always bullies me for it. I’m basically the black sheep of the family.
Mexican one GETS ON MY NERVES SO BAD. I am Colombian and because I have blue eyes people think I am white . (Which I am, you can be white AND Colombian). But here in California it's mostly just MExicans and they often look at me like I am a martian because I am white and I speak "their" language! I even almost got into a fight with one mexican guy because he insisted I am also mexican just because I speak spanish. "we are all mexicans at the end of the day". I told him I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with mexico, its culture, or its people. I am from Colombia and he got offended!!!
maloff magaloff there's white Mexican people. So if ur white asf and speak Spanish we think ur Mexican. Just tell them clearly never fight with a Mexican bru u gonna get fucked up
Once I went to summer camp , all the american kids were like OMG YOURE MEXICAN?! but you're white! do you ride a burro to school? do you like sleep under a cactus? Sombreros are your thing right? OMG LETS GO TO TACO BELL! 1. I live in Mexico city and most of the people I know are white. 2. No, i have a car. Ever heard of those machines with wheels? 3. Im pretty sure i live in a house but let me check... 4. I have never worn a "sombrero" and please get a dictionary because sombrero means hat, not your cinco de mayo hat. just hat. Oh and by the way we don't celebrate cinco de mayo. what even is that? 5. Taco Bell is an insult to Mexican food. Its literally disgusting. We don't do hard shells or dorito shells or put bacon in a quesadilla. A taco is a warm tortilla with meat inside it, a flauta is a fried taco with cream and lettuce on it, and a quesadilla is a tortilla with only cheese inside it, maybe salsa and it is not pronounced cuesadila,
Really? You are Mexican and don't know what the celebration of 5 de mayo is, even though is not celebrated in all Mexico? Shame on you, yes shame on you. It is part of our history. Go back and found out what it is. GOSH!!!!
Yes! Going through the comments I thought, "am I the only one who has heard this?" I got pissed off because that was the sole reason guys wanted to get with me and no other reason. Made me feel like a toy
@@mommajordaan898 yeah. You're not alone. Either because they think Latinos are hot in bed or they have never been with a Latino. Like we're collectibles.

I hate it when people asume we all like spicy food. Short story. When I was in Vancouver, CA, watching fireworks this old lady said to me "Do you like them? Oh I bet you are really enjoying this, since you don't get to see this at home right?"
The other day i went to a dance with a guy and i told him i wasn't that good at dancing. He told me But you are latina i thought you would be a good dancer and i was like... not every latino is a good dancer!!! I live in Canada and everyone thinks i'm from mexico just because i speak spanish. It's kinda annoying sometimes.
We're you born in Canada? If you do then you tell them you're Canadian. Or if you were born in the States then you're American. If you're born somewhere else and are Canadian second then you're whatever-American
smokinbull123 Are you Latino or another type of non-Anglo ethnicity? I've tried your approach before and it has *never* worked. The person will just say something like "I know that, but where are you *really* from?". If you aren't white then nobody thinks you are "American American".
PSYCHOLOGYZOOM Maybe, because they feel like your fatass doesnt need any extra sauce, for fucks sake your already eating at one of the unhealthiest places in the world, and then to ask for extra, processed sauce!
Sofia Santana I discovered on a trip that the dancing stereotype wasn't much because we're "good" at it, but because most americans SUUUUUUUUCK at dancing! I consider myself to be a terrible/mediocre dancer, but when I saw americans dance they were so bad I looked decent in comparison... funny thing.
Okay but you don’t have to be rude like the way this comment comes off obviously you could explain in a nicer way Why would we know what you speak? I don’t expect people to know we speak English
I'm but yeah, it's a serious problem, everybody always think that everyone who speaks Spanish or Portuguese are Mexican, they even confuse Indians with Mexicans like...... What I hate is that Mexico is actually pretty diverse in culture and races. We don't look all the same way and that's what I love about my country, but whatever the only important thing is that every country is special an beautiful and if someone doesn't know about it then we'll teach them and let them be part of that diversity
Liz, Chile

I went to a summer course that was attended by international teens and we had a class in which they said "what are the stereotypes you know about their countries" and it was eye opening
Same problem with us Moroccans. Saudi Arabia is like the Mexico of the Arab world, anything they do, everyone thinks all Arabs do. Wtf is a turban for? Hahaha
Maria Noordino Because the Arabian Gulf countries kept the Arabic values and the traditional clothes....the pride of the Arabia even after World War II. However, most North African countries such as Egypt, Morocco, are imitating the Western Countries of wearing the same clothes. They lost the value. Wearing suit with tie, or jeans is not even considered Arabic customs.
Chavezoid ahhaha thanks! :) mkm90210 Well you can't really blame us for being influenced by western cultures, because firstly, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria were colonized by the French for many years, and Egypt by the British, so of course there are remnants of history's influence on us today. Secondly, Morocco's population is heavily mixed with Berbers, who have nothing to do with Arab blood. But even so, us Moroccans still managed to maintain our own customs in terms of clothing too; we were never influenced the middle eastern clothing customs, we have our very own traditional ones that we still wear today, it's called a Jalaba.
Maria Noordino Well here are 2 serous question for you then: 1) Is there a proper term to racially describe the peoples of the Middle East? The term "Middle Eastern people" doesn't seem to me to be a proper term to racially describe the people of the Middle East and, quite frankly, it's too long of a word. At one time I used the word Persian, but I've learned that only refers to Iranians or Iraqis I think. The term "Arabs" I would think is one to only describe the race of people you would find as the majority on the Arabian peninsula and its surrounding areas. It seems there are several different kinds of people that live in the Middle East, so inventing a term like "Middle Easterner" doesn't seem right. What exactly is the proper term? 2) Who exactly are Berbers and what do they look like typically? Do they look like darker skinned Arabs? Are they a race of people that probably originated from a mix of blacks and Arabs? Are they the ones who later became Moors, took over Spain, and mixed into the Spanish population?
Hispanics tend to have stricter parents so...to all my nonhispanic friends: IM SORRY I STILL HAVE TO ASK PERMISSION FROM MY PARENTS EVEN THO IM 19 SORRY IM JUST HISPANIC...........(-:
Also another thing that i've heard but fortunately not been told is: Do you live like in the forest? Some people of 1st world countries think Colombia is all Amazonas.... ahh plus they write Columbia... which just sickens me... 🙄😑😒
I once was talking with a british girl and when I said I was from Venezuela she said "Oh! is that near China?" and then I said that we're in south america and she thought I was talking about the south of fucking uniTED STATES LIKE WHAT THE FUCK GIRL DO YOU NEED A MOTHERFUCKING MAP OR SOMETHING? I want to add that when she thought I was talking about the south of united states she said "So... you're like from Alaska" South... Alaska... Really?
HAHAHAHAHA. THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO ME. So when they ask where am I from I say Venezuela and immediately say "It's in south america, like, do you know where Colombia is?"
+Andrea Gonzalez Not to play devils advocate here, but I sure as hell don't know were all the countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and so on are, so why would all the Europeans or Africans or Asians know were all the countries in America are?
+Brenda G.P. Don't worry, This is the same all over the world. how many people know all the countries in their own hemisphere, let alone the other side of the planet!
+WAQWBrentwood When I was in 8th grade I had to learn ALL countries around the world (and their capitals). But then came the fall of the Soviet Union and then...
#1 misconception about "Latinos" is... that "Latino" actually means something. The only country in Latin America I can honestly say I feel an affinity with is Bolivia, and that's because my parents are from there and I've lived there. I've been to Peru, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, but I don't necesarily feel any affinity with those countries or know anything more about them than anyone else. Why should appending the label "latino" suddenly make them "my people"? This isn't to say I feel any antagonism towards those countries, just that, despite being "latino", I'm not any more an authority on them than an Austrian or a Kenyan.
this happened to a friend during a trip to Orlando her: I am from Colombia random US person: Oh so you live on trees right? it must be really cool to to you be in a city.
Over 10 years ago, my Colombian friend did a year of high school abroad in Japan and whenever people asked him questions about Colombia, he would tell them that everyone lives in tree houses in the jungle, wears leopard pelts, and goes from place to place by swinging on vines. Sometimes I wonder how many of those people still to this day believe that all Colombians live like George of the Jungle.
+CREK ANIMS Sorry but there is not such a thing as modified Portuguese. Brazilians speak Portuguese so do people from several countries including Portugal. It is a huge mistake to ignore the fact that Brazilians are as Latino as Mexicans are, yet 210 million people speak Portuguese in the largest country in Latin America.
Hahahah, I was just saying guys, don't attack crek, probably it sound bad as you read my last comment... I'll just delete the comment... #SouthAmerica #LatinAmerica #Colombia
One that I would like to put on the table is that if you look like a "typical Black woman from the hood", that you can not, by any circumstance, be a latina, or speak Spanish. Let's not forget that thousands of Africans were dropped off in South America. I'm Afro-Cuban, btw.
Rocio Castillo No problem! I think it's important that more people are educated on the history of the Hispanic culture. There is so much diversity and beauty. It's time that we embrace all aspects and skin tones that we bring to the table♡♡
Josue Rodriguez ♡ Thank you for being proud of your African heritage also. Too many deny the fact that, yes, they do possess "a few drops" of Mother Africa.
Joanna Gipson +Josue Rodriguez ... oh it's more than just "a few drops." Especially in the Latin-Caribbean, Venezuela, and Colombia there are pure blacks, with no mix, and they are as Latino as any brown or white Latino.
Can’t blame them, Spanish and Portuguese are very related.. don’t tell me Americans also tell you that you don’t look Latino because you are so white ! Hahaha
I'm Spanish, and although we are not from América Latina, we are Latinos because we speak spanish, a lenguage that comes from Latin. And last term, a group of Northern Europeans students from diferent countries came to my school. One day, the WiFi wasn't working properly, and (as I'm the student ahead of technology in my year) I was changing the WiFi network to every student's computer. One of the students shouted at me from one corner to the opposite and said: Hey, Latina! Can you fix my computer? I was not looking in her direction so I didn't know that she was talking to me (because we were in a room full of Spanish people and we have all a name). Then she approached me and tapped my shoulder, and again (but this time directly to me), said the same thing. Let me clarify, I'm absolutely proud of being Latina, but there are millions of Latinos in the world, and every single one of us has a name, so please, call me by my name or simply tap my shoulder. And yes, she already knew my name
First of all: Joanna, ¡me encantan tus videos! I love the fact that you're showing the world how beautiful and diverse the Hispanic/Latino community is whilst keeping it entertaining and fun to watch. I love your personality and I think you're doing a great job. I'm from Tenerife (Canary Islands), a beautiful Spanish island off the coast of Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean. Culturally, Canarian people are somewhere in the middle between Spain and Latin America. On one hand our currency is the Euro, we watch Spanish TV, go to Spanish shops and banks, eat tortilla española, paella, chorizo and jamón serrano. And then, on the other hand, we eat arepas, cachapas, tequeños, pan de jamón, carne mechada, dulce de leche, we say millo instead of maíz, maní instead of cacahuete, cotufas (pop corn) instead of palomitas and guagua instead of bus. The Canarian accent is very similar to the Venezuelan one, in fact people always think I'm Venezuelan when they hear me speaking. Y'all should visit the Canary Islands, they are gorgeous! Now, something that always gets me is that when I go to some countries in Europe and tell the people from those countries that I'm Spanish they always say: "Ooooh 😮, Spanish! Fajitas, burritos, tacos, nachos, sombrero, mariachi, picante, caliente, tequila, margarita, fiesta, siesta, arriiiiiiiiba." And I'm like.... "Seriously? I'm Spanish, not Mexican 😒 Come on man, we're on the same continent!"
OTHERS: Where are you from? ME: Argentina! Buenos Aires OTHER option 1: Oh, that's in Brazil right? OTHER option 2: But you are blonde and caucasian... ME: Kill me nowwww
I hate that there's basically no distinction between being Mexican-American and being Mexican in the US. I was born and raised in Mexico and hate no ties to the US whatsoever, so it's annoying that if I decided to live there people would think I'm an American citizen. Why describe yourself as Mexican if you've never lived or even been here? That's very annoying to me.
Exospheredweller Yeah really just meant Mexican and Mexican-American as ethnicities rather than `races´. A Mexican person´s culture is very very different to a child whose parents are Mexican but was born and raised in the US and that´s my whole point.
Dulce Ximena BO I think your DNA is what should matter not make belief lines. Being born somewhere doesn't make you from there, that's stupid. White people don't belong in North America, their skin is white because they are from cold European climate not hot American climate, this is native land.
I'm from Mexico and I live in Mexico City, but anytime I go to another country people seem have a lot of stereotypes about us that are not always right. For example, people always ask me about Burritos and Fajitas and I actually have never seen or eaten a burrito lol. Also, we have a big variety of food and people think we only eat tacos wtf Also, a lot of people think that we all live in a dessert, like.... what? And, I hate it when they say we speak "Mexican", we don't speak Mexican!!!!! We speak Spanish -.-
When i say i'm brazilian, people think that we speak spanish, we live in Amazon, we play football(soccer) all the time, we all know how to dance samba.

Accents. Sometimes people ask me if I was born and raised in PR because I don't have an accent when I speak English. I freakin live in PR. Not all Latinos speak like Sofia Vergara.
Sofia actually speaks without as much of an accent as she uses in commercials and Modern Family. That was requested by the showrunners of the sitcom.
In fact PR, in spanish has strong accent, what is puñeta means? I listened to speak people here in NYC all the time.
THANK YOU. Like buh I know inglis and español, deal with it Karen
Everybody has an accent. You can't speak any language without an accent because an accent is the way you pronounce words.

do you really expect people (like if it is their duty to know where the fuck you are from) in their own country to know where your country is at?do you have a culture or anything that differentiates your country from others? if not stop complaining.
+JR VideoRecording never. I'm pancolombian and nothing else.
Perfect....
Ok, not all Latinos are brown people. How's that for a misconception?
pl
+Moth Queen You're right, some of them work indoors.
NO BROWN PRIDE HERE !!! LOL
+Andy Obb eeeee panameño!!!! soy tambien uno :D
" You're white"
Let's just say I cried for hours after that.

Mexican? No way. You look Arab to me. Basque and proud!!
wtf O.O
Que loco! (el mexicano ese)
maloff magaloff there's white Mexican people. So if ur white asf and speak Spanish we think ur Mexican. Just tell them clearly never fight with a Mexican bru u gonna get fucked up
Oof, what part of Colombia. I'm from Baranquilla.
"Karen, You can't just ask someone why they're white!"

7 - Brazil is not not Latin America. It is Latin America, fact

8 - Not all Brazilians can dance.
Actually there is some Spanish speaking regions in Brazil

A taco is a warm tortilla with meat inside it, a flauta is a fried taco with cream and lettuce on it, and a quesadilla is a tortilla with only cheese inside it, maybe salsa and it is not pronounced cuesadila,
I'm Colombian and people automatically think I sell drugs. And Pablo Escobar is my uncle -_-

Really? You are Mexican and don't know what the celebration of 5 de mayo is, even though is not celebrated in all Mexico? Shame on you, yes shame on you. It is part of our history. Go back and found out what it is. GOSH!!!!

The other day i went to a dance with a guy and i told him i wasn't that good at dancing. He told me But you are latina i thought you would be a good dancer and i was like... not every latino is a good dancer!!! Why is it that Mcdonald's employees always act like their job is on the line when I ask for extra sauce??
I HATE it when people say all latinos dance well, i mean i wish but no
Sofia Santana I discovered on a trip that the dancing stereotype wasn't much because we're "good" at it, but because most americans SUUUUUUUUCK at dancing! I consider myself to be a terrible/mediocre dancer, but when I saw americans dance they were so bad I looked decent in comparison... funny thing.
Yes because we feel like disappointment
I hate that stereotype but I do dance salsa.
American: Do you speak Spanish
Me: No. I'm from Brazil.
American: So do you speak Brazilian?
Me: No, I speak portuguese? Do you speak American?

LA DE QUE NO SOMOS TODOS MEXICANOS ES DEMASIADO REAL
I'm but yeah, it's a serious problem, everybody always think that everyone who speaks Spanish or Portuguese are Mexican, they even confuse Indians with Mexicans like...... What I hate is that Mexico is actually pretty diverse in culture and races. We don't look all the same way and that's what I love about my country, but whatever the only important thing is that every country is special an beautiful and if someone doesn't know about it then we'll teach them and let them be part of that diversity
I found it funny where she says “ We're not all Mexican!" My response was “But I am";) I don't know why I smirked.

I went to a summer course that was attended by international teens and we had a class in which they said "what are the stereotypes you know about their countries" and it was eye opening
WHAT I HATE SO MUCH IS WHEN PEOPLE SAY ,"STOP SPEAKING MEXICAN".
Same problem with us Moroccans. Saudi Arabia is like the Mexico of the Arab world, anything they do, everyone thinks all Arabs do. Wtf is a turban for? Hahaha
Exactly I'm from Egypt and everyone thinks I wear the clothes they wear in Saudi Arabia it so annoying
mkm90210 Well you can't really blame us for being influenced by western cultures, because firstly, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria were colonized by the French for many years, and Egypt by the British, so of course there are remnants of history's influence on us today.
Maria Noordino Well here are 2 serous question for you then:
1) Is there a proper term to racially describe the peoples of the Middle East?
Maria Noordino Not sure who thinks a turban is associated with an Arab, but I associate it with a Sikh and assume that person is from India.
I'm from Argentina, and when I say that, everybody be like "ohhhh socceeerrr, meessiiii, maradonnaaaaaa" I DON'T GIVE A F*CK ABOUT SOCCER! e_é .l.

Also another thing that i've heard but fortunately not been told is:
Do you live like in the forest? Some people of 1st world countries think Colombia is all Amazonas.... ahh plus they write Columbia... which just sickens me... 🙄😑😒
You forgot to say that in Brazil we don't speak spanish as the others countries in latin america, we're sick of hearing it, tired, exhausted
well in that case she also forgot to say that Haiti they dont speak Spanish, they speak French.
I don’t think people from Haiti think they are Latinos though...
I want to add that when she thought I was talking about the south of united states she said "So... you're like from Alaska"
South... Alaska... Really?
+Andrea Gonzalez this is fucking hilarious!
This isn't to say I feel any antagonism towards those countries, just that, despite being "latino", I'm not any more an authority on them than an Austrian or a Kenyan.
this happened to a friend during a trip to Orlando
her: I am from Colombia
random US person: Oh so you live on trees right? it must be really cool to to you be in a city.

And, actually, not all of latinos say spanish!!! Here, in brazil, we speak portuguese
Who cares. We're speaking about Spanish speakers in general -.-
+CREK ANIMS Sorry but there is not such a thing as modified Portuguese. Brazilians speak Portuguese so do people from several countries including Portugal. It is a huge mistake to ignore the fact that Brazilians are as Latino as Mexicans are, yet 210 million people speak Portuguese in the largest country in Latin America.

One that I would like to put on the table is that if you look like a "typical Black woman from the hood", that you can not, by any circumstance, be a latina, or speak Spanish. Let's not forget that thousands of Africans were dropped off in South America. I'm Afro-Cuban, btw.
Joanna Gipson uh Cuba's in North America
Thank you for stating this Joanna!!!

Now, something that always gets me is that when I go to some countries in Europe and tell the people from those countries that I'm Spanish they always say:
"Ooooh 😮, Spanish! Fajitas, burritos, tacos, nachos, sombrero, mariachi, picante, caliente, tequila, margarita, fiesta, siesta, arriiiiiiiiba."
And I'm like.... "Seriously? I'm Spanish, not Mexican 😒 Come on man, we're on the same continent!"
OTHERS: Where are you from?
ME: Argentina! Buenos Aires
OTHER option 1: Oh, that's in Brazil right?
OTHER option 2: But you are blonde and caucasian...
ME: Kill me nowwww
Lol people really say that’s in Brazil I may not know everything about every country but wow
That's very annoying to me.
have no ties*
Exospheredweller
Yeah really just meant Mexican and Mexican-American as ethnicities rather than `races´. A Mexican person´s culture is very very different to a child whose parents are Mexican but was born and raised in the US and that´s my whole point.
*****
But your culture is different to that of a Mexican born and raised in Mexico.
Dulce Ximena BO I think your DNA is what should matter not make belief lines. Being born somewhere doesn't make you from there, that's stupid. White people don't belong in North America, their skin is white because they are from cold European climate not hot American climate, this is native land.
Exospheredweller
Again, I´m talking about culture, not physical appearance.
Someone once asked me if there we had cars in Costa Rica... That's like asking if you breath air in your country
I'm from Mexico and I live in Mexico City, but anytime I go to another country people seem have a lot of stereotypes about us that are not always right.
For example, people always ask me about Burritos and Fajitas and I actually have never seen or eaten a burrito lol. Also, we have a big variety of food and people think we only eat tacos wtf
Also, a lot of people think that we all live in a dessert, like.... what?
And, I hate it when they say we speak "Mexican", we don't speak Mexican!!!!! We speak Spanish -.-
Kailu hahah feel your pain
Funny. I'm Chilean and grew up in a desert, but everyone assumes I grew up in some kind of jungle.
"All latinos eat spicy food " im Puerto Rican and nothing I've eaten or cooked has been spicy unless u choose to add hot sauce
When i say i'm brazilian, people think that we speak spanish, we live in Amazon, we play football(soccer) all the time, we all know how to dance samba.
Tbh sometimes I hate telling people I’m Mexican because then they I’m a “stereotypical” Mexican
6. OUR FOOD IS NOT SPICY
but the food is spicy lol
It is in Mexico
PANIC!
+Alejandro Gonzalez compared to what? :D
Many South American countries such as Argentina cool very bland meals in comparison to Mexico. They cook much more similar to Europe.
