The funny thing is the term LATIN AMERICA was coined by a French guy. It was the French economist Michel Chevalier who first used the term “Latin America” in the 1850s while traveling the Americas as a way to distinguish what he felt were “Latin” peoples from the “Anglo-Saxon” peoples. This idea helped legitimize French colonial activities in Latin America.
There really isn't a strong amount of evidence of that. There's a lot of debate as to the origin of that word. Including words like "Ladino" and was used during the Spanish empire. That existed way before any french colonization. Regardless, the term is based on actual logic. Lets keep it real, the majority of Latin America is mixed with people of southern europe, so it's not like there isn't actual truth to that. Please stop propagating that this comes as the French as a fact when it's only one of the possibilities(which is pretty unlikely).

Ah those from Venezuela. I have never understood your need to say "oh my parents are from Venezuela but my grandparents are from Germany" and in many cases it is not even true. Why aren't Venezuelans proud of their race? In all of Latin America (except Argentina, who believe they are Europeans, literally) there is the concept that if your father is Venezuelan and your mother is Peruvian, but you were born and raised in Venezuela, you are Venezuelan, period. But Venezuelans never seem to be able to be proud of their origins. You always want to bring up a relative from outside the American continent and many times that is not even true.

Let's keep it real, the majority of Latin America are southern Europeans (Latin people) mixed with indigenous (Americans) people, so it's not like there isn't actual truth to that. It's possible that France tried to appeal to the term to gain favor and contributed to some degree to popularizing, but I think the impact overall would have still been very little. The word "Ladino" was used similarly to the word "Mestizo" which I think contributed to the fast acceptance as the acknowledgement of being mixed race is something that is omnipresent in Latin America.
What on earth does it mean to be Latino? `We meet people from all over the world and they are just like us, and just as different.
Take a chill pill dude
We don't need to coat our food in lots of spices because our meat is the highest quality along with animal welfare.
And the British are more than ‘tea’ and ‘the queen’ but we don’t complain when everyone in the world brings it up
We Mexicans are still stuck with drug trafficking, I asume a couple of years more.
Literally never heard anyone bring that shit up around Brits lol. You can hardly compare a string preference for tea with a dirty business that has corrupted Latin America to the core.
So yeah, Latin Americans can complain, because most people who don’t know much associate those things as part of you culture, which is incredibly wrong.
Exactly. Some people really are just better than others.
That’s a fairly benign stereotype. Can we stop with the false equivalencies please?

I feel like Brits and Latinos have more in common than Latinos and Americans.
For example, Soccer/Futbol.
Latinoamericanos, my friend. Latinos are Spaniards, Italians, French, Portuguese and Romanians.
@@doowoppyify Romanians, really? Didn't know that. My co-worker of over 20 years is from Romania, blonde hair blue eyes, I'd never have guessed it. Awesome!
@@Strato13 All the countries I have mentioned were part of the roman empire before they even existed as countries. We inherited everything from the romans: religion, laws, language, costums, habits, art, gastronomy, etc, etc. That's why we are latinos, and people from southamerica aren't.
6 YEARS STUDYING??!!
Can you find Puerto Ricans there?
no they are rare in london
No they don’t have welfare on projects in uk
So both of my parents are Mexican-born, they came to the states young, I was born in the states. I can’t say I’m Mexican? Just because I was born in a certain country means I have to ignore my background and how my parents taught/raised me based on that culture. Seems quite a dumb statement for you to say.
Yo, that's because it's true we was squatted by millions of immigrants from all over the planet since the 50's!!!
There's probable millions British Venezuelans that speak Caribbean English and came with the British oil companies
100 years ago like grandad. There's too many immigrants just because of oil and else plus the weather.

4:30 a brazilian latino? Curious since Brazilians generally don't identify as Latin or whatever.
The term Latin is a curious thing. Thanks for the confusion Napoleon. Nobody even speaks Latin here 😂😂😂
Latinos are people from Italy, Spain, France, Portugal and Romania, you don't need to speak Latin to be latino. We are latinos because we were part of Rome before those countries even existed. We inherited the language, the laws, the religion, the habits, the culture, the gastronomy, and everything. So that's why we gather all together on a table to eat, and that's why we still eat chorizo and snails, among many other things. People from latin América got called latinoamericanos by Napoleon, to fight against the hispanic empire. Get your self properly informed, please.
Yes it's great having the whole world on one island NOT. How on earth is someone a student for SIX years.

"We bring happiness to this country" what a ignorant thing to say when going to another country! That's the same as saying "our culture is better", every country is happy with their culture, don't be ignorant of that!

Ustedes no hablan latín, sino español.
