Beautiful vase, Gary. I'm a little bit color blind but I believe I can see a number of colors in that piece. Brown, grey and yellow. Nice turning and a great video, my friend. 👍👍 Happy turning, .....Gord
Thanks Gord. Happy someone else saw brown and yellow. Maybe it is my wife who is the color blind one LOL. It is sitting on the desk full of Smarties and I grab a few every time I pass by it! Thanks again my friend, Gary
I like it. It looks like you brushed the gray on only we know that mother nature did it for you. You just had to find it. The joys of wood turning. Thanks for sharing!
Good morning Gary. Sitting down to breakfast on Sunday watching a lovely turning (I’m behind with my viewing due to life getting in the way). The grey colour reminds me of nimbus clouds. It’s an option for new Peugeot cars in Europe. Keep up the good work 🌞
As far as the wood grain and color that is one of the best . If I could I would have interesting things like it all over my house I'm glad you kept it simple and just let the beauty speak for itself 👍 job
Ya know what makes this piece special, Gary? It's that slight curve in along the top of the side profile. Just so elegant. It's something I often strive for when turning a vase and I just can't seem to get there. You nailed it and it's beautiful. Great job, my friend! 😊 Phil
Thanks Phil! This was my initial thought and then I was looking at the cool looking natural areas and thought I should leave them. I ended up cutting too much of it away and went back to plan A. Or maybe just followed the grain to this shape. Either way I am happy with it. Got myself tied up in a real long one plus all kinds of other non turning things so I may have to look for some more easy ones. Or maybe I am just getting old LOL Take care my friend, Gary
What a fantastic vase! I love the greyish natural color. As a beginner just learning, I'm absolutely spellbound by your videos. Thanks so much for explaining everything in as detailed a way as you do. I really do learn a lot from your videos.
Thank you very much Andrew. I waited a long time before trying this wood and now looking forward to turning the other half. Thank you for your comments and all the best in your journey in wood turning. My first turning was in 1961 and still loving it. Take care, Gary
That is a beautiful little vase. The colors look just like the chestnut tree I ate my lunch under in the Botanical Gardens in Washington, DC when I was a government chemist.
At first glance, I wasn't real impressed with this wood. BUT, after the finish and Ack's was applied, I thought it was really great. Nice job as usual.
That really came out nice. Very pretty colors that I did not see in it early on. A very pleasing result. Thanks for the tips on cutting end grain from the inside. That will come in handy some day I am sure. Always a good lesson in Gary's videos. Looking forward to see what you do next! Thank you and see you next week!
Thank you Mark. Those colors took awhile to show up. Looking at the end of the piece I as concerned about cutting past them but has it turned out there were more colors I could not see. Thanks for watching, Gary

Funny you would mention a welding job for your son. I have my oldest son my 2 wire feed welders so I took it up to him and he welded it for me. I used one of them for a long time but he needed it more than me...plus he can do my welding now LOL
That is beautiful . Bet Moma already has a place on one of her shelves for it .LOL Have a great day , My friend . I enjoy your videos . All The Best Terry Lembke

A set screw on the back of the chuck for when you are turning in reverse...note taken, lesson learned. THANK YOU!!! (I just upgraded my lathe and now have reverse. Never did before so it was never an issue)
Yes it is a good idea Michael. If all goes as planned you may not need it. But if you get a catch it can unscrew very fast. Years ago I had a very old lathe and wired the motor to run both ways. Most of the time you had to wait for it to stop before it would go the other way(capacitor start motors work that way) Well back then we did not have chucks so I used a face plate. No setscrews back then either. It unscrewed a few times. I was only using it for sanding back then. Also remind yourself to back off the setscrew before removing your chuck or it will ding up the threads. Happy turning on your new lathe. Gary
Thank you Manjit! Yes it did seem bland but I could see some nice contrast. What was really nice was how the color actually changed in one are to almost a walnut look. Take care, Gary

Another lovely creation, I am looking forward to seeing what you turn using the guave, here in South Africa I am told the early settlers used guave for the handles on axes and hand tools. I plan to use some I have had drying in my shed for years as knife handles.

well done
Thank you Mark!
wow, that turned out great. I was never able to get a finish like that on the last turning of it, which was a lamp. good job Gary.
Thanks you Tim and thanks again for the wood. Guava is on the list!
Very cool
Thank you Joseph and thanks for watching.
Gary
Love the colours of this piece and it is such a beautiful finish 🤩
Thanks so much Denise!
Another lovely creation, I am looking forward to seeing what you turn using the guave, here in South Africa I am told the early settlers used guave for the handles on axes and hand tools. I plan to use some I have had drying in my shed for years as knife handles.
Thank you Michael! The large hole in the side will make the Guava a bit of a challenge but I will get to it soon.
Take care,
Gary
