    I'm heading back to work in Sept after being off since mid March due to covid. This is exactly what my days used to look like. Every single second is jammed pack before I collapse into bed at night from exhaustion (Jill put in 16 hrs before she got a moment to herself!). Honestly, I'm terrified to go back. I love my job but am I the only working woman that thinks something's out of whack with our society? This is just too much on working women's plates. P.s. to all the stay at home mom's...I know you have your own set of challenges and it's no walk in the park to stay at home with the kids all day. This post is not meant to compare the 2 experiences in any way, but rather just open up a conversation of the challenges unique to working mom's. Stay strong everyone!

      Natalie McCabe I feel for you and going back to work and a family. I truly believe moms should stay home with their children if they have the desire to. I realize that many moms are unable to do this. My kids are grown but I did always work when they were younger. It was such a challenge. I agree with you that things are out of whack I our society. You take care and I hope things will all work out for you.

      There is definitely something wrong in our society when you need two incomes for a family to maintain a middle class lifestyle. This was a great video because it shows how a full-time working mom has to juggle a lot and is on a tight schedule.....so tight that it can be very stressful when you are behind by even a few minutes. One thing that this video misses is that working outside of the home you also bring stress from work......somedays are very challenging at work and you are so stressed and feel unmotivated and lack energy to do what needs to be done at home and you can slack off but only to realize that all those things that need to be done continue to pile up and your stress increases even more. It is not healthy...... I am in my late 40's but all those years of juggling so much and being under a constant steady dose of stress has taken a toll on my health. You start feeling the effects of it early 40's. My opinion is, this lifestyle is not healthy in the long run. I wish moms that love and need work outside the house can at least have options of working part-time.

      So correct, we make people work way too long and we need to incomes, in most cases to be able to afford life. Would be great if we had a world that didn't charge and arm and a leg for everything, to allow one parent to stay home and or work part time. Child care is also very exciting in many cases. I'm able to stay home for now but I realize that could change with financial changes.

    • @rubeekay7820
      @rubeekay7820 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Exactly A household should be able to be maintained on one income. But that is not the case for most, especially those in poverty who work so hard but can never get ahead. Women should have the choice to decide whether to work, stay at home or do a little of both. Single people or those with no children would just get to live like ballers 💵💵💵. Win win for everyone.

      She doesn't raise her children. Other people raise her and her sister's children. Of course the kids would listen. They only see their parents a couple of hours a day. Also, to compare herself with true single mothers is insulting!!!

    • @maryclarke9894
      @maryclarke9894 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm not sure why you feel the need to be so critical. Everyone makes different choices and kids flourish with working moms or stay at home moms. They know when they are loved. Also, she is acting as a single parent for the whole day, so although it may not be the same as single parenting, it's certainly similar in many ways.

    • @jessicapearson9479
      @jessicapearson9479 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not the same thing as being a single parent. As I said before she doesn't raise her children. She babysits her children. A real parent is there for their kids all day. Her kids are off to school an hour or two after they get up. Then they don't get back til after 5pm most days. Let's not forget the babysitters and her own family that also watch and care for the kids. She on average sees her kids less that 4 hours a day Monday through Friday and maybe 6 hours on the weekend days each. A true parent is with their kids from time they get up til time they go to sleep.
      She is acting like she is a single parent. She is nowhere near a what a single parent is. She does not actually goes through or does what a real single parent does. She is a rich female who babysits her own kids.

    I've been a stay at home Mom for many years. I think the Fly Lady system would be perfect for a Mom who works outside of her home.But when my children were growing up I would have everything ready the night before, including putting a load of laundry in the washer before bed, getting the next days clothes ready, and having lunches made and in the fridge. and tidying up the house before bed. I would get up an hour before my children so I could have a relaxing shower and a peaceful cup of coffee. Being prepared early makes all the difference. Making dinner the night before is great, so is using a slow cooker She did a wonderful job ! . tfs 💗 Being a Mom ...its the hardest job you'll ever love💗

    Your sister does everything very similar to me as a working single mum... We have to cram in everything AM and PM before or after our paid jobs and while carrying out childcare..which is difficult as the kids want attention after not seeing mum all day but doing housekeeping chores leaves little quality time with our kids in the week :(
    I do a few things differently such as doing the washing after work.. Here in Germany the insurance companies won't pay if eg the washing machine or dishwasher leaks or dryer burns and causes damage to the house if you were out of the house at the time.. So I have to be home when washing/drying clothes. But I don't do washing every day due to eg sport, music club activities etc after school... So not always time.. Plus 2-3 washes for towels and clothes is OK for me and 2 kids. Bedding changing and washing and eg bath mats I do on weekends.
    In the evening I start the next days dinner prep while warming up the dinner I cooked the day before for that day.. I also have frozen cooked homemade sauces and rice and pasta in the freezer which can been warmed up in the microwave in a steamer for the days where even 15 mins would be to stressful to do dinner prep. In the evening I also prep school bags, prep school breakfasts and sign homework paperwork (from doing homework with my youngest after school or club activities) before I take my youngest to bed.. And then I shower after kids are in bed.. I get up 1 hr before we leave the house..and finished my and kids breakfasts eg make sandwiches, veggies to add to fruit and musil bars.. Fill all our water bottles etc.. Then I get the kids up 30 mins before leaving.. To shower, dress, brush teeth and drink something.
    I keep one set of makeup in my work bag so if I don't have time before leaving the house.. I can do it in the car in the carpark at work before I go in.
    My garden I also do in the evening.. But alone.. To relax.. So often in pj's with a cup of herbal tea before bed... Unless we are home early (eg no club activities) so that my kids can do it and have water fun.. Which means on those days they shower evenings to.
    For special school or after school activities after eg washing the stuff or preparing it... I put the things straight back in the car so I don't forget them... Only in winter when it's to cold, I leave the stuff at the front door with a post-it with the day written on it to remind me to grab it on the way out of the door on the day!
    PS.. A tip... I bought 2 nice throws in the same colour as my sofa that are always on my sofa (when no visitors are around).. And I wash those at the weekends.. I take the one from the week off, shake out and hoover crumbs up .. Then put the other clean one straight on... It has saved me (and my sofa) a lot of Stress when accidents happen because I can just grab it quickly off the sofa and throw it in the washing machine... I have taught the kids to call me immediately when they spill eg milk so I can grab it quick before it soaks through to the sofa.. The throws make my life so much more stress free! Because I don't have to worry about dirty fingers, spills, grease spots from snacks etc..
    I hope these ideas also help you guys. The advantage of these routines are that I get quality play time, meal time and reading/cuddle time at bedtime with my kids eveyday...so it's definitely worth it! Xxx

It is difficult not just for working moms, even part-time working moms, but also stay at home soccer/basketball/volleyball/softball moms ( I was all of that to my 3 kids!) to get all the team mom stuff done, the laundry, the homework, the cleaning, etc. I really wish my husband could have helped me more through this stage, but his job was sometimes 10 -12 hour days. Tough for all of us. These videos have been so nice to see all the routines, and to hear about all the other commenters here of what works for them! xoxoxoxoxox

    • @rebeccarendle3706
      @rebeccarendle3706 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@anitalavey1465 yes. I have all that to.. My kids do basketball, handball, swimming, choir, etc.. So I am that mum to! .. Which as a single working mum, I still have to take them to everything!.. And their Dr's appointments, therapy appointments etc.. (both my kids have health issues).. I didn't bother mentioning all that because it's normal for all kids to have "out of school" social and sport activities and other appointments..even kids of single working mums!
      If I have a 10 + hr working day.. I work the rest of my hours late evenings on the computer into the night once the kids are in bed or do some work on weekends!.. Between housework and kids activities!

    First, I was deeply touched by how you love and respect your sister and the daily struggles she faces. Second, I was impressed that you took tips from the way she handles her daily responsibilities and schedules and gave her credit for teaching you something that would possibly better your life.
    Third... I'm going to make a suggestion that may save hundreds of hours per year laundering. It will also save on energy costs and detergents. This advice will make sense to people who don't have in-home clothes washers and dryers, but deserves consideration by those who do.
    Try this experiment: Put all towels in a box or closet for two weeks. Buy two cheap stacks of washcloths. Every day when you step out of the shower, you will be surprised to realize that a washcloth will dry your hair and body off almost as well as a very large towel and then can wipe up drips on the floor. Same goes for kids if you have some. They don't need a big towel to dry off, Throw your nasty germ-ridden sponges away. Use a washcloth at the kitchen sink to serve dishwashing and countertop cleaning purposes and lay out a fresh washcloth every night when you have done your shine-your-sink work, (or even more than once a day if you are taking on a weekly deep swish activity somewhere nearby).
    You will find that washcloths can be hand-washed and hung to air-dry indoors or out in moments. If running them through a washing machine is available, you will find that a big hamper filled with bath sheets, bath towels, face towels, hand towels AND washcloths can turn into a single laundry basket load per week.
    These are lessons learned from living in a 350 square foot household with no washer or dryer, being low-vision/blind and thus not able to drive to the closest laundromat. Pushing laundry in a cart for a half a mile each way, plus the time lost will give you a sense of why I discovered how well washcloths work.
    Keep a few fancy towels for when company comes... but otherwise - go to washcloths.

    Thank you Jill!!! I'm a teacher, so during the summer months (and the lovely stay-cation we've had since March) I'm more like you Steph. Then, when school goes back, I'm more like your sister. I've struggled to keep up doing the routines during the school year, and to see your sister's routine is so encouraging! I'm using the pages you created, and I'm hopeful that I'll actually implement the Fly Lady system better than I have in the past...Progess, Not Perfection! Great video!

I am starting to see results!! Yay me!! Today I got my first procrastination task finished!! So cool! I started incorporating my zone cleaning last week and have managed reasonably well. I wish I could share pictures with you, Steph. Thanks so much for your encouragement!

I especially loved the part on this video where your sister put in laundry in the morning and then dried it when she got home genius 😊

    Oh my goodness..... that took me back to the days when I was a single mom and worked 12-15 hour days, five days a week, driving tractors! That was from about late February until Thanksgiving, then worked from 7-5-ish from December until late February.
    In the beginning, I had a one year old and a 5 year old and I had to get them up at 5:30 am so I could drive to the farm where I worked as a "hired man" for a man and his 3 grown sons. (4 bosses).
    I cooked a large meal on Sunday afternoon to have for our evening meal all week. Yep, we pretty much ate the same thing almost every night for a week. On evenings I would do a load of clothes and put it in the dryer the next morning before putting it away when I got home. Sometimes it would sit in the dryer for a day or so.... as I had never heard of the flylady. This was back in the late 80's!
    I relied sometimes, on my kindergarden son to help with his baby brother, in order for me to get ready and out the door... to my sitters. Both boys would have had a quick breakfast, and would go to my babysitters house and crash on the couch before my son walked over to school with my sitter's little girl. Their place basically bordered the school yard.
    I cleaned my house on weekends, but my house rarely was messy because me and my boys were never home during the week to mess it up, and I scrubbed it pretty well on Saturday mornings.
    It was a hard life for those 3 1/2 years as a single mom, before I met my current husband! Do I miss those days? Absolutely NOT!! Our "baby" we had together is now 28, our other two boys are married and 35 and 39. I love our life together as a couple, without the extra work of kids at home.
    I teach both cooking and cleaning classes to clients at our locat CPC, and always look for tips for moms/dads with different situations. This one was a great help and I will speak to them about laying out their clothes the night before. The bike ride outside before supper is a great idea, but I don't picture my clients doing that as most are so glued to their phones, they would never make time.

    Yes, I agree with your point about SAHM’s having more flexibility and if something comes up things can be done at another time. But because we are at home with the kids we are dealing with more messes and dishes etc. Where as if you work you are in a time crunch but how you leave your home is how it stays until you return.

    • @djawnsjhilson218
      @djawnsjhilson218 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really think people overlook how difficult it is to be a stay at home mom.
      I think the two parts in this video that highlight that are leaving the baby for "5 seconds" and him peeing on the couch (and I as a sahm can attest to that not being an exaggeration) and the daughter dirtying up the mirror while brushing her teeth.
      Well, there's 8 hours extra of that plus time you would be commuting! And you only have two options, clean it up right now or it's there looming over you to do later.
      I know working is tough while caring for children but it really just has me realize that there should be more concern for child rearing. Child care workers should get more praise and more money too! Children are hard!

    Hi, Steph, 👏applause for you both, I think, that’s so helpful for all moms. There’s not only a lot of energy in this family, there are also so smart ideas to use the time and avoid hectic and to have pleasure for all. I like to prepare meals in forehand, too. Even, if I’m retired now, it’s easier to have a plan. People who don’t like cooking are sometimes admiring me, but for me this is fun time, listening to the radio, washing and chopping up veggies from the garden... Later or the next day I only have to cook some noodles or rice. This gives me so much time to enjoy my hobbies, reading, painting, knitting, crocheting... I’ve still problems with decluttering, but we all have a weak point and I take you and other flying women as an example. 🧚🏻‍♀️Thank you so much for sharing, love, Monika❣️

    I'm a working mom and she is so relatable. I cook 3 or 4 times. My husband cooks 1 or 2, then well go out or have leftovers. We prep and defrost any meat for the next night, meal plan. We all take our outfits, coffee and lunches, purse, work bag, backpacks the night before. I drop the kids at school and my husband picks them up in the afternoon. I get off home around 5 and start cleaning the main area and kitchen. Sort the mail, empty out dishwasher and change into my home clothes. Then everything feels reset, I'm ready to get to dinner. We clean as were cooking. Someone sets table, helps serve. We all eat together at the table. We clear the table and clean the kitchen. We check if the kids need help with any work, check their room. Everyone has has about 2 or 3 hours to relax and prep for the next day.
