    I imagine there are fans of the “yellow banana“ (Matt’s off-road recovery) out there who would be happy to buy the XJ! Makes me nostalgic for mine. I loved that beast and regretted selling it every day until I got my JK Rubi

      I got a hard rock edition jk, and 37k so far radiator went bad, torque converter went bad, signals act kinda funky, AC and heat work occasionally you have to have it on max heat or max cold auto tempt doesn't work, stalls and almost dies in reverse. Honestly it's been a nightmare. And after reading over thousands of treds of people having the exact same issue makes me think I should just sell it. Paid 40k to put in 9k+ in order for it to work like a Jeep. I love it still, but I hate it at the same time. I dont even know. I had an fj cruiser up to 370k and I not once got a check engine light. I might still keep my jeep. It's weird..

      @@samandkay26 Don't give up, just sharpen your troubleshooting skills. It's a methodical approach and understanding systems. Watch South Main Auto and Pine Hollow Diagnostics, and last but not least Scanner Danner on TH-cam. They will drastically improve your confidence in fixing your car with a test light, a volt meter, and the mightiest tool you own, your brain. Certain Make/Models have some very common failures, common powers and grounds that feed modules that tend to be problematic, and some wiring chafe issues or corrosion spots that are easy fixes.

    Give the XJ to a random sub... I’ll pay to have it shipped.....😃. I almost bought a LJ Rubicon years ago. Wound up with a 2010 JKUR a year later. We put over 125,000 miles on it . A lot of which were on our fall trips from Ky to The West. Usually 5 - 6,000 each year. Now have a 2018 JLUR and have only been able to get back out west 1 time. Maybe next year... It’s ready (liftd and on 37’s) and so am I. Love your content. Nice to see places even If we cant get out there right now.

  • @roialblu
    @roialblu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Hey Brad, love your channel and have been a fan for a few years now since the 'XJ', but maaate, come-on, you said when you started the XJ build there was 'a lot of restoration' required since the XJ was at 202k miles (you know a car of that vintage is going to need some work). As you said the transfer case is quick fix; its highly likely the latch, tyre carrier are all related to your roll-over; the water pump and cooling system is a given on these things when you buy so you know they will need to be replaced at that mileage; the transmission, well AW4 is pretty bullet-proof so you either had bad luck or there were other maintenance related issues that were overlooked for this XJ build. To paint the XJ with a unreliable brush is a bit rich mate, it sounds like you guys just moved on from the project a while ago hence all the other cool builds - which is ok but I think some context on the XJ is needed other than it being unreliable. Anyway, keep up the great content. cheers from OZ

    Sad to hear the XJ go and that it’s been giving you trouble. I’ve got a near perfect condition (exterior and interior) forrest green Turbo Diesel XJ with 215k Miles and it drives like a dream. Did headliner as per your video and 3 inch lift. Followed your awesome channel since that vid you and sons took JK and XJ out on a trail with some shooting thrown in. All the best with the sale and hopefully one day might see another better condition XJ again. In the meantime love your JK, JL, TJ etc and keeping doing what you love this channel is fab.

    Good call on the camper shell for the Gladiator. After being on dirt roads all my life I would never consider the "Overland" racks and boxes. Even with a camper shell you still need to seal the tailgate and after that it's still not completely dust proof.

    Just a suggestion for the XJ. If you guy's are in a spot to help, donate it. More specifically, to a vet in need. Get together with someone in the counseling staff and get a few names and stories. I'm sure you could find a deserving, unsuspecting vet that has gone through a bit more than others that could benefit from that Jeep and appreciate your help and support and the capabilities of it and the hand up they may so direly need, but are way too proud to ask for. I'm sure you have seen and heard stories in your time in active service that have tugged on you certain ways. I'm sure there are viewers in your area that have the ability to do repairs to it that would improve dependability and ease of use of the XJ that would be willing to donate their time and abilities to the cause. Again, this is just a suggestion. Take it for what it's worth. Take care and keep up the good work on the channel.

    From 2015 to 2018 (I believe I have the years correct) JK 2door were available (According to FCA) tow rated for a max of 3500lbs same as the JKU if properly equipped. Found out it was because of the new formula used to derive ratings.

      Yep, me too. Chili pepper red 1999 sport 140k miles, got it from the original owner 2 yrs ago at a real good price. Did a small lift and bigger tires, but have since concluded that the XJ is not the best jeep to pour lots of money into to get a good trail vehicle due to it being a unibody, too narrow, and a few other things. Also I hit my head every time I get into it. Quit my build and now my 5' 105 lb wife drives it around town and likes it better than the mini van.

    I would pull those rock sliders off, I mean they took the time to put TrailRecons logo on it!

    When you get the power steps go ahead and get the panel that protects the rocker body also. Had one where the rock slider did its job but it crinkled the body. (4dr JL)

    bummer about the XJ, would have loved to see more content from you on it as I believe your content and style was far superior to any other builds. I have a 97 XJ sport that I need to be working on and have got some great ideas and inspiration from your build.

    A few comments for ya ... the Cherokee Chief. Naugh, don't restore it overly. I personally like the direction your going with it. ... Jordan's Jeep is lookin' pretty sweet these days ... the XJ. You can get pretty cool little setups that change the whole shift linkage setup. The original setup is pretty Hokey and flimsy. Seen a couple out there that are really quite reasonably priced ... one of which I bought for my XJ, and it made a world of difference. Might be something to think about for when you sell it?
