    Rims look great and 2 plus hours dealing with 1 super stubborn bolt is on par for most projects. I like your son’s sliding front windows on the half doors. Beats zipping the window down.

    @2:55 exactly what my Dad taught me. Feels good to have done it myself and saved some money. I love being able to work on and have knowledge on whats going on with my vehicle. There were some points where I wish I would have just taken it to a shop lol. But the feeling of completion after all the stress, cursing, and more than likely cuts on hands was great.

    My son and I did that about a year ago on his 2015 JK. Thought it would take about 4 or 5 hours and it took 8.5, he drove home at 5:30 am back to Branson about 40 miles from my house in AR. Told him to text me because we were both wore out when he left.

      TrailRecon, Brad you should used a stock pitman arm, you will put more stress on your gear box shaft bearing and wear it out, ask me how I know, get Currie correct steering link and you will have correct alignment and no steering bind.Well worth it, did this on 3 of my Jeeps. The stock tie rod is weak compared to Currie, you won’t have to worry about broken tie rod .

    Ok A. This is the best most comprehensive TJ lift video I've ever seen THANK YOU.
    B. I've spend 4 years and done nearly everything to try to make mine ride better (it rides.like a brick) I JUST decided to take apart my old aftermarket lower control arms yesterday since the grease points are broken and I haven't been able to grease them since I've owned and who knows when the previous owner did. long story short they were frozen solid in place I had to spin the bolts as fast as I could with the air impact to break them loose and get them to where they would come out while hitting them with the hammer I've been lube them up with grease and put them back in and it rides like a Jeep should now hallelujah

    Just an FYI: I ended up getting the Icon Alloys Vector 5 wheels after watching this video. I was in the market for new wheels and (larger) tires and had settled on the Fuel Nitro 5, but after I saw this video and not knowing about the Vector 5, I bought the Vector 5 because it fit the bill for me (4.5" BS, 71.5mm hub bore) and I liked the styling.

    Best to use anti-seize on those places where those parts were rust welded so that isn't a problem for the future. Also if you drop the pitman, you might have to drop the trackbar to prevent death wobble since the steering and trackbar aren't at the same angle. Keep in mind, if you drop the trackbar, find a really well made strong track bar drop bracket. They break easy. I've also seen pitman drops break as well so be aware of that.

    • @UncleJoeHikes
      @UncleJoeHikes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn’t leave that stock front track bar on for too long in that new position. Move to an adjustable and back to the original position. Shouldn’t need a drop bracket.

    • @thomagoo9219
      @thomagoo9219 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess I didn't see if there were adjustable track bars going in. That is pretty important with nearly any lift height. I'd say no drop and adjustable trackbar and maybe even an upgraded drag link to increase the length safely while maintaining strength.

    I have a few times used a cut off wheel and slowly cut off the pitman arm. sometimes in the rust belt its the only choice you have. And on a TJ you should get a cam bolt eliminator kit when you use adjustable arms

    My notes:

    Just get a cam bolt eliminator washer. Several companies make them (Metalcloak has a nice one) and you don't need a special cam bolt afterwards anyway since you have adjustable control arms. Earlier TJs had some camber washers but for the most part you can't really adjust camber on a TJ.

  • @krisolof7998
    @krisolof7998 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't bother with the cam bolt, you have adjustable control arms and those cam bolts will almost never stay put when wheeling. Couple of things though. The drop pitman arm should really only be run with a double shear track bar that drops the frame side pivot point a similar amount, else you increase bump steer. Rubicon Express, Calyton, Metalcloak, etc. all sell a double shear option to pair with the drop pitman arm. Second, the raised rear track bar bracket will also eventually cause the whole drivers side rear upper control arm bracket to fail. Will take 5 to 50k miles depending on how hard it is wheeled but finding a friend with a welder and $5 in steel to brace it for cheap insurance. A don't forget to hit everything with the torque wrench in 500 miles to make sure it is still snug.
