If you reread the last chapter of Oden’s journey with Roger, you will see that Shanks went to Roger and asked him questions alone then cried. We don’t know Shanks’s history, so he might have asked Roger about literally anything. And Roger doesn’t mind saying what the “Will of D” is or where “Laugh Tale” is as we saw with him and Whitebeard

Shank is probably one of the more mysterious characters in the world of One Piece, which is funny considering he was one of the first characters to be introduced into the story. Many people theorized about what pirate or mythological figure is he based off, but I think it's safe to say Oda had some inspiration from a character from the Book "Treasure Island", and the character is Long John Silver. Read about him a bit and you'll see too many coincidences and similarities between him and Shanks.
I know this but he is not from any mythology nor a story character ,when asked in an interview that why does shanks have such epic moments whenever he appeares in the show oda said himself in an interview that Shanks is what he couldn't be, he is if oda was powerful, the alter ego of oda which is morally and politically unbiased and correct and of course powerful ,SHANKS IS ODA, ODA LIVES THROUGH SHANKS IN ONE PIECE, ODA IS SHANKS.

I've always loved your content and breakdowns of One Piece, but I can't help but feel your videos are containing less and less breakdown and more filler recently. Its not objectively bad, just not why I watch, would love to see some more videos that are more densely packed with analysis. Because recently it feels like you could reduce the run time by 75% and not lose any actual analysis.

My theory: The amount of guards for Gomu Gomu fruit was because the WG leaders had classified intel on need to know basis which mentioned things like "Fruit that looks like *this* is secretly very important. GET IT! ...Also, don't let anyone outside the inner circle know that it is important and potentially disastrous." but did not include the most important details like "what the real name and powers of the fruit are." This would explain the amount of resources and time they spend on trying to get it. It would also explain why Luffy could then walk around as a rubber-man without raising attention. Most WG agents and Marines who saw him, had no idea of the potential threat in him. Like Liam mentions, the Gorosei finding out the complete truth only until Wano is the most likely explanation to plenty of odd actions. I am not 100% convinced that Shanks was the one who told them though, since that would not seem like something he would do, so Im is the one I suspect. And as for why Im didn't tell the whole truth immediately is (in my theory) that Im is so distanced from minor details of ruling the world that he didn't hear about Gomu Gomu fruit until the Reverie. After all, most of WG forces thought it was just a random paramecia of no particular worth. And even to Gorosei it would be "fruit that our predecessors wanted us to get, but keep it down low." But when he finally heard this minor detail, he had a freakout.
I would have agreed if not for the fact that they know what the fruits powers is since its listed in the devil fruit encyclopedia

so as you said "Fruit that looks like this is secretly very important. GET IT!" if they knew what it looks like then they know it has rubber properties. Then the minute luffy got his 1st wanted poster they should have started chasing him down that instant
I've seen a few comments mentioning this but in Oden's flashback Shanks asks Roger a question and cries. From my perspective, I don't think this had to do with his disease. There wouldn't be a real reason to keep the question a secret if that was the case. Also- I'd like to say that Shanks was probably in the east blue looking for roger's son (ace) OR he was there because the ship with the devil fruit was there. Anyway, Shanks' bet is still a bet I think, because the Gorosei don't say no one's used the fruit in 800 years, they say no ones awakened it. So it's possible that the potential the fruit sees in it's chosen welders doesn't always come true. This could be why it's still a "Bet" for Shanks. He *could* kill Luffy and have Ace eat the fruit, but he doesn't. Probably because he likes Luffy and doesn't want to see him die. Also, you'd be hard pressed to get me to believe that Shanks saves Luffy because of fate or destiny. Shanks adored Luffy, and Luffy reminded him of his captain.
All this to say I will be one unhappy camper if it comes out that Shanks is not on Luffy's side.

Theory: Considering luffy’s fruit had a name and a different type all along what is stopping other devil fruits. Imagine if blackbeard didn’t consume a logia with the yami yami no mi but a mythical zoan thats like the god of the moon or darkness something the complete opposite of the sun. Remember when he fought ace, “the sun or the darkness only one can prevail”. Hinting more as luffy and blackbeard being the final matchup. Sun god vs Dark God.

And the gear 4 transformations were also very weird, I found it strange nobody ever commented on that. If any fruit is ever revealed to be a similar "hito hito" mythical zoan, it would be the yami yami I think.
Though it would be weird to pull the same twist twice, especially when the first instance happened to the protagonist. Repeating the twist with another character could never have the same effect.

Dragon knew. All the signs are there. From the beginning Dragon always said to Luffy to follow his destiny. He was on the island by the time Shanks was too. Dragon must be behind something.
If indeed Shanks knew everything about the future in regards to Luffy, it might explain the plot hole and his evasiveness throughout the story trying to avoid as much contact as possible with Luffy being afraid that his knowledge of the future might sabotage the actual order of events to occur perhaps?

he did the same thing with whitebeard all that time ago warning him to call back ace not to charge towards blackbeard, as if he was trying to prevent some future incident from happening while he had knowledge of blackbeard that couldnt have been attained at the time in any normal circumstances (literally blackbeard's crew his "family" couldnt tell what the guy's true character is so some random pirate in opposition group has a better idea?)
I'm still skeptical of the idea that Shanks told the Elders about Luffy's fruit. Keep in mind that scene took place well over a month before the raid on Onigashima, so it's really weird that the Elders only started panicking once round 3 of Luffy vs Kaido began.
There's still a chance that the gorosei are actually working towards same goal as shanks...

My theroy is that the pirate kings crew found out the time line needed for the future, and Shanks was chosen to bring the fruit to Ace if he could get it. When he brought it to the island Luffy was chosen instead, and since you can't uneat the apple, Shanks went all in with Luffy being the chosen one instead of Ace.
I only think this because if they knew they needed a D., Ace would be one, with both the inherited will of Roger and Joyboy.

I feel like the whole act of shanks saving luffy becomes a lot less impactful if it was all about the fruit of destiny and less about shanks just seeing a bit of himself in the kid. I mean, the very key things that made luffy someone who follows shanks example as a pirate and someone who laughs off insults, cherishes his friends no matter what? no its just because he ate the fruit so shanks had so choice but to pick luffy. what a terrible reveal that would be.

Not really. Luffy, before eating the fruit, had already said "the same words" that Roger did (Liam did a vid on that, not so long ago)
We still don't know what those words were, but Luffy showed he had inherited Roger's will.

Tbf, if u realise who shanks is and how strong he's supposed to be, him losing his hand sounds more like manipulation and theatrics to me rather than willingness to give up his arm for the future... Originally it might've been all about shanks being the father figure and leading Luffy on but at this point I think oda is either trying to paint him a villian to later reveal he was always trying to help, or have him be helpful ultimately to turn into the big bad evil
It would be a nice reveal to see Shanks open the box and leaving it in front of luffy. That would fix alot

One thing I've been thinking lately, is that Oden says something along the lines of "when we reached that island we learnt everything about the world", plus the laughing reaction.
Reaction being the key word. It doesn't seem like they investigated, or even read a poneglyph. It almost seems that as soon as they saw the One Piece, they just... knew. And laughed.
It really intrigues me. I don't think it was like a flood of information, but rather something so simple it was so overlooked that they laughted at how ridiculous it all was. Or how simple.

You know at first I was sure that Luffy was “a certain pirate”. But now I’m starting to believe that Oda intended for us to go down that rabbit-hole. Shanks snitching on Luffy so that the Gorosei would kill him which would then awaken the fruit seems a bit.. absurd. I don’t think the prerequisite to awakening Luffy’s fruit was death, but rather the sheer willpower to continue. Which leaves me with two possibilities: Evil Shanks, or someone like Rocks D Xebec is still alive.
But shanks had called it gomu gomu no and got a poster probably by roger to find it and make it as a present for the new era and know one could told him that is the nikafruit and then the gorosei realized it and was 100% sure that they have to kill luffy so shanks is just not the evil one he is more kind of uninformated

I think the world government knew that it was the god fruit but not that it was the gum gum fruit and not that fluffy had eaten it, I think they still knew that you had to awaken it and what would happen if that happens

Unrelated but Doflamingo should've injected the mera mera no mi with poison. That way even if someone else wins it, they would eat it and die (I know he never anticipated someone else winning it). He could then simply scout out the fruit again lmao. This is truly doflamingo levels of evil.
Have we thus far seen any evidence of being able to tamper with a Devil Fruit directly? It might not be possible. The closest we've seen is the Rumble Ball, and frankly, the fact we never saw the Rumble Ball weaponised against Zoan fruit users to destabilize their transforming is shocking.
He wouldn't have wanted to give up the option of giving the fruit to one of his subordinates. Maybe Dellinger.
@@Raaxon I have a feeling that devil fruits are a new addition to the one piece world. I say this because back in East Blue it was almost like a myth that such a thing exists, which would not be the case if df always existed. I think the abilities sure did exist and came from some form of haki (parvision theories) and maybe it has prolly been like a couple decades or 100 years or so since it was possible to harness the power from the soul and putting them into fruits. Kaido in 1047 also says haki is much more superior. Even if it did exist, I think the WG had much more control over them before than now and tried to hide them from common people and the great pirate age is what spiraled everything out of control. This would explain why the marines were heavily guarding the gomu gomu fruit, they probably send out marines to retrieve df from the public and luffy's df just happened to be on that ship. Explains why the elders were guarding the fruit despite knowing nothing about it.

With all the talk about Luffy's fruit, wondering what people are thinking about Luffy's bounty post-Wano.
Personally, I think it won't go up. It'll could be removed entirely.
The World Government decide that Luffy is truly too dangerous to be left alive and so what do they do? Erase him from history. Starting with getting rid of his bounty and they stop circulating his bounty poster; all while doing what they can to silently kill this massive threat to their status quo. If the Gorosei are involved, I can see them wanting to erase his existence.
Luffy with his awakening is probably the most dangerous thing to the World Government right now and bringing more attention to him with a massive bounty increase probably isn't something they want given the nature of the awakening and the history of Sun God Nika, Warrior of Liberation.

I feel like Shanks knew that the awakening of the fruit is activated through "death", which means that he tricked the gorosei into killing Luffy so he can awaken it. Maybe.

I'm honestly leaning towards Shanks wanting balanced control. Not a complete governed world, but a balance throughout the world. He realizes Luffy is getting too powerful, and although he doesn't specifically want to, knows Luffy needs to be stopped. I think Shanks isn't evil, just has ideals that don't 100 percent coincide with Luffy's complete freedom ideals.

well i thought a conflict between luffy and shanks could be that shanks wants him to fulfill some kind of prophecy, but luffy does not care about it, because he just wants to be free 🤷♂️

I don't think Shanks spoke to the Gorosei about Luffy. Reason I say that is because, the elders would have given the order to kill Luffy way before Wano. Why did they suddenly realise in the middle of a fight with Kaido that the devil fruit is the one they want?
I like the idea that Shanks was not randomly in East Blue, but rather was there to give the Gomu Gomu no Mi to Ace, considering he probably knew that Roger had a kid given that he and Roger had spoken, and Roger offhandely mentioned that his son would be the one to conquer the seas. That would make it logical as to why he was there, but given that Luffy was saying the exact same things as Roger once Luffy came around to eating the fruit it clicked with him that Luffy could be the one that he was actually looking for, even though both of them having D in their names fate could have probably gone either way.
I also don't know if this is a theory or not, but I like the idea that Roger was an aberration in the wheel of fate. In the story he and Luffy are completely interchangeable in terms of personality and either one of them could have been the one to get to Laugh Tale the first time and arrive afterwards aswell. The fact that he was "20 years to early" is fascinating, like sure things need to happen for the world to change, but he just happened to have the willpower and desire to reach the island that was so strong that he made it there and learned what was actually going on so much earlier than everyone else by pure chance. They refer to it as 20 years to early, meaning that they probably would have been able to affect the world had they gotten to be there in the present time in the world, and that is super cool.

My theory is actually the opposite. Shanks only knew what roger told him. Which was basically anything he asked but I copied my post from another video 'So I know why Roger was laughing now. I also know what Whitebeard meant when he was speaking to Blackbeard. All that work. Roger and his crew put everything on the line and learned the whole history. What did the whole history say? They weren't the ones. They learned about Nika and the Gomu Gomu no Mi. That's what Roger told Shanks that made him cry. He told him he couldn't be the real king. Shanks had to find the fruit. Not to become nika or anything, but to guide the future in the right direction. Maybe Shanks knew the fruit would eventually find its user and he just wanted to be there. The range of emotions he had to have been feeling when Luffy ate the fruit "Is that bad?" "Is he Joyboy?" "He's just a kid!" "I have to lie to him?" "If I don't lie he'll be in danger!" LUFFY YOU ATE THE GUM GUM FRUIT! YOU ARE RUBBER! " Nothing else " '

Dragon is Roger's son Cuz the Weather Suddenly Changed in Ep 0 and helped Roger away from Shiki. Roger was 20 when he got Dragon and eventually got everyone to believe Garp was his father. Roger was 53 when he died and Dragon was 53 when introduced
