    Chef AJ is a breath of fresh air. Love hearing from her, I am learning so much, her ideas and explanation of reality is sooo useful. Women need to hear this from another woman who knows our struggles. If I feel I am going to go off the wagon, I listen to her like therapy. She is great!!

    I made the steak fries for my husband last night and he loved them! Amazing! We have been WFPB for 3 1/2 months now and he has lost 38 pounds. He never had success with any other diet. We love eating potatoes and never go hungry! Thanks, Chef AJ, for all of your videos. They have helped us a lot. Keep up the good work!

    I've only recently found you, and I gotta say, you are SO DAMN ORIGINAL. You've gotten through to me in these past few days and the final lbs are falling off :) I'm feeling more energetic than ever. I haven't touched alchohol...which is a biggie for me :)

    I've been following your weight loss Wednesdays for some time now and I'm really glad I saw this video today. I've been trying to get back to a healthy weight, (currently 195lbs at 5'9") was seriously considering going crazy low carb vegan keto to try to lose weight. Seriously happy that's out of my head now😂 I don't wanna live without potatoes and rice! Gonna remember to put my health and wellbeing first before weight loss.

      I live in Los Angeles and many of my friends are actors/models. I've watched them struggle for years YO-YOing on low carb diets. YES, they DO lose the weight, and EVERY time they gain it back and have to start over. Each time it gets harder...b/c your metabolism slows down (look up study on the metabolic damage done to The Biggest Loser contestants!!! OMG). I finally got ONE friend to try a whole foods starchy vegan diet b/c he wasn't getting roles anymore....DUDE, he looks amazing now. He is RIPPED.

    you could use a metal steamer tray that fits and place two layers of potatoes. Also I use parchement paper

    Yes please do an interview with Dr. Lisle on eating disorders! I have a history of having bulimia for 8 years, but now I'm still struggling with binge eating. I would love to hear his thoughts on the subject

    I stack my potatoes more like a ladder not single layer and they cook up just fine. 3 year air fryer lover! I agree the inside is way too small but it was all that was available back in the day.

    New friend. And just bought a new air fryer. So I was paying close attention to this discussion and another video about radishes. You casually mentioned if you can't lose weight with the vegan diet then it's emotional eating. Well !!!!! I couldn't lose weight. And I said to myself" I'm eating to lose weight" and that's my mantra. Boom!!!! Enlightened moment. I'm eating to lose weight so I never stopped eating. Maybe there's more behind it but it was enough to cause a huge shift and my appetite is so much better. I can eat my meal and not justifying eating more healthy food. I'm hoping to see my appetite come under control.

    Night eating is gremlin emotional eating! I love it, so true. Get rid of non-compliant food, any concentrated calories need to go, keep it clean. Thank you! 👍🏼

    Microwaved golden potatoes are fabulous! Better than any other method. Better than steamed. Far better. Also microwaved red potatoes are great! The texture is incredible. Moist. Super tasty. Glad to hear you say microwaving is safe. I always suspected it was a lot of hullabaloo I mean the damnation of the microwave. I have never tried an air fryer but it's tempting. However I try to stay all raw as much as I can. Once I start eating potatoes it turns into a long binge that last days until I finally swear them off. I just get obsessed with them. And I eat too much. So it's good to hear you talk about food addictions because that's exactly what I have. And that's why I really do so much better all raw. Raw vegan fruitarian as it's called. 80/10/10. Low-fat frugervoir. Wow what a weird typo. How in the world did this voice recognition thing spell frugivor like that? Bummer man.

    Love your videos, you, your eating plans, ideas, tips, everything and thank you sincerely! Since watching this video the first time last year, I asked for an air fryer for Christmas and got the Phillips deluxe whatever and love it. I'm not a direction reader either but figured it out easily. I tried potatoes and ended up cutting far more than would lay out nicely like you did yours so I just dumped them all in and hoped for the best. It was quite a pile and about 1/2 way through I took a wooden spoon and stirred them and then when they were about two minutes from done, I added some rosemary and chopped garlic (I will slice garlic from now on as much of it fell through the screen). The potatoes all browned nicely even though they were piled fairly deep. I don't know if it's the brand of fryer I got, the size or what but thought you might want to know. Thanks again for all that you do. You are surely fulfilling your purpose and contributing to humanity and a wonderfully joyful and healing way.

    Thanks for this demo, Chef AJ. Those fries look so good. From what I understand, cooking then cooling starches increases resistant starch, making them healthier as well as tasty.

    OMG....i do "preventative eating".... I'd love to hear more about how that's not something that works. I have a feeling she doesn't address questions here on youtube, but maybe one of you guys have more info on that? I usually eat a GIANT bowl of oatmeal on mornings when I'll be shooting on location somewhere like a beach or in the mountains, where there truly is no opportunity to eat for 7+ hours (except fruit, which let's be honest, doesn't help when you're starving LOL). I feel like my big bowl of oatmeal holds me over very nicely :) If I ate veggies before a shoot and headed out for that many hours, I know for a fact that I'd be too energy depleted to do my INSANELY complex and difficult job!! I weather elements, models, hair/makeup...have to constantly be creative and communicate with my crew. It's not a walk in the park.

      In a way she also does preventative eating - - -although maybe you guys are using different definitions for things. But She says eat a full pound of veggies followed by bountiful starch. enough Starch that you will be full and not be tempted. By some definitions that would be "preventative" I have also heard her many times speak on eating "before you go" before meetings or gatherings that might not have food you would like to eat :) - I know its been 8 months :) maybe you will see this sometime and it will help.

    One amazing way to refocus yourself from weight loss to just being healthy is to get involved with HEAVY WEIGHT TRAINING. If you're a woman, TRUST me, you will NOT bulk up if you're eating like Chef AJ, or even High Carb Hannah recommends. Bulkiness comes from *supplements* and eating a pretty significant caloric surplus. Watching your body SCULPT & TONE and feeling yourself get stronger is every bit as addictive as the drive to lose weight....the difference is, it's actually good for you :) I know a ton of people who are recovered from eating disorders who got well through weight training. And I'm not talking about 5 lb weights LOL. I'm talking about throwing up big numbers. BUT, you absolutely need to do several sessions with a trainer first and tell them you are interested in learning OLD SCHOOL WEIGHTLIFTING techniques. Front squats. Clean & jerk. Good Mornings. Dips/Pullups. Chest press. Etc. After a few sessions where you take plenty of notes, you'll be good to set out on your own. ALSO, get the FITBOD app. It's free and it'll make custom weightlifting routines for you. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

    Thank you so much for this video! I would like to buy an air fryer and I was wondering if you think even for my usage only, the 3.7 qt (3.5 L) would be small for me? I will MOSTLY cook red potatoes and sweet potatoes with it.
    I am planning to buy the 5-star rating *"Simple Chef Air Fryer 3.5 Liter"* on amazon which is only $87 dollars. But if you say that even that would be small for one person, then I plan to buy the 4.2 qt *"Secura 4 Liter Extra Large Air Fryer 1500 Watt Electric Hot AirFryer"* on amazon with 4.5 star rating which costs $89 dollars so not much difference on money but it has a 0.5 star less rating :)
    If you still think both of these would be small for my use, then I'll buy the 5.5 qt *"5.2L Digital XL Air Fryer. 3 Piece Accessory Set & Recipe Book. 7 Cooking Settings."* on amazon which costs $150 dollars.
    Which one would you get if you were in my situation? I am kinda a volume eater as well and I eat potatoes by themselves. Please help me make up my mind.

    Rather than the $400 Breville Smart Oven check out the $150 Kenmore Elite smart convection oven. It performed just as well in consumer reports and is the one I have been using for years.     I don’t have a microwave, would you recommend steaming the potatoes or boiling them before cooking in the air fryer? Or roasting?

      It doesn't really matter how you cook them, but it's best to chill them, preferably over night before air-frying.

    I have a Phillips XL. Per the recipe book...I boil russets for 40 minutes...(unpeeled, whole).... then cool in the fridge. Then wedge cut into eighths and then halve those horizontally. Toss with some herbs/spices....and then place in the airfryer. I do layer them but leave plenty of air ...criss crossing them like a pie crust Latrice...sort of. And then 13-14 minutes at 390degrees. Perfect. Very crunchy and fluffy inside. But you can layer if you leave air between them. Like AJ, I put the skin side down for less sticking.

      Barbara Scott 1 or 2 russets. Boil for 40 mins and let them cool down.
