Man these are helpful.... I've run and set up HAAS for about 2 years. But now I've changed jobs and it's mostly Mazak lathe and mill with some HAAS. But as of tomorrow I start Mazak
Yes, but on the older controls, you have to adjust the geometry on the backside of the groove the same distance as the flat on the grooving tool. I am planning on making a video showing that.
I've just found your videos as I'm thinking of getting a mazak...and I have to say congratulations and a job well done. .without a doubt the best mazak tutorials I've seen so far...particularly like your easy to follow instructions and like seeing the programme executed and a finished part coming off... Got yourself another sub 👍. .. Will you be doing tips on mazak milling too? .. 🍻 from South Wales
Thank you for the positive feedback! I do not own a Mazak mill, so no, cannot do any milling videos. I will eventually show the live tooling operations in my lathe, but it's not the same programming as a mill.
Great phil Any chance of showing how to make so 5 of the same part but in one set up ? Ie part off first part then start the same part again say 25mm wide so the facing tool Will move in z 25mm plus say .1 (.004”) to face next part. And could you measure how many parts you want say you could get 5 parts off before you get near chuck.. Is this something you could show please ?
Hi Phil nice video . Was wondering what was the width of your grooving tool . I calculated that the width in the bottom of the groove would be .1452 so allowing for a finish cut of .005 per side that would take it down to .1352 .So I'm guessing you would have used a 3mm/.118 width of tool to have clearance ,am I right ?
Hi Phil. I need to make the right side finished groove, The part is long and has a drilled hole, in this case, I need to start grooving out material from the right side towards the chuck, but Mazatrol 640T starts grooving from the chuck side. Is it possible to change the grooving direction?
One method that works is to use groove type 0 and make groove width same as grooving insert. You then tell process you have say 10 grooves on that process and set grooving pitch to less than groove width. This will cut overlapping grooves toward the chuck. Adjust the pitch to get the total width you need then run a finish pass groove type 1. I should probably make a video in the near future about it.
I need a taper from the right side so this was a bit complicated. I wonder why Mazatrol even makes growing from Chuck's side it ruined the rigidity. Maybe there is a dedicated parameter for changing direction. @@mazatroltipsandtricks6816

Have you done any internal spline broaching with these old machines? It should be able to be accomplished with the c axis indexing but have yet to see it done with mazatrol. Love the videos!
Nope. I have not tried broaching on my old machine. It would take a LOT of coding using the Manual Milling Process MMP just to do a simple keyway, but it would be possible.
That is usually caused by groove tool being too wide for the particular groove. This is also caused by the bottom radius you may have programmed in the groove bottom. Try changing the groove tool to a narrower tool.
The older controls will not allow you to machine a full radius in the bottom of a groove. There needs to be a flat at the bottom. To get around that issue, I would program that feature using a bar out but use the groove tool as the cutting tool. I'm going to show that type of stuff in later videos.
Sorry, I never explained that part. My machine has only one gear so I just leave that field blank. The gear selection is only used for roughing process in Mazatrol. The finish operation will automatically select the correct gear. You really don't need to select anything though and the machine will do it for you. You do need to select a gear for manual process though.
