Hey Scotty, been watching your videos for a while now! Great stuff. Really appreciate your input on the car industry and reliability. Recently moving from Jersey to Pennsylvania and will be doing alot of back and forth traveling. My choices are simple, used Honda civic Hatchback or used Toyota Corolla hatchback. But my question to you if you can help, is what do you think of used Hybrid vehicles such as a used Toyota Prius hatchback? Would be great on gas but are they worth the reliably for the buck
i got off work...stop and got gas...took 9min...as i drove off i nottice guy plugging in his ev....i went home got cleaned up and loaded up the fam to go out to eat...and when we passed the gas station..2hours later...the same guy still there leaning against his ev talking on phone....
2 hours is a lie. Unless it was 10 degrees outside. You dont need to lie ti disuade us ev drivers. I will get rid of mine. The reason are the scamming ev charging companies. 50 dollar holds, random 200 dollar auto reloads.
And, water vapor is the most potent greenhouse gas -- at 15 degree Celcius, 60% RH water vapor accounts for 1% of the atmosphere while CO2 only 0.037% 😁
When comparing gas to electric, it takes less than 2 yrs before the ev becomes cleaner than gas, taking into account both the manufacturing process and fuel emissions.
Confucius says: Comparing Tesla 0-60 times to real performance cars is like comparing a microwave to a BBQ Grill. It may cook faster, but nobody ever wished for a microwaved burger...
@@barrydraper Yes ,what use is speed unless everyone around you is irritated by the noise ,and you make everybody suck in that your exhaust fumes , good times!
To buy an EV it’ll be like a laptop, outdated before you take delivery. You’ll be held to the manufacturer forever with software updates, outdated softwares etc. No thanks, I don’t need chains around my neck further with a high combustible microwave oven masquerading as a vehicle.
That's the same with all cars dude. At best your car is fresh for that year and next year it will have 5 extra features you missed out on because they held out for annual improvements. And all cars are moving to the software c***. My damn prius has a voice command button that if I press it asks me to subscribe to premium connectivity to use it. And BMW's heated seat subscription is on all cars in their fleet.
The hard truth...CHINA is leading the way in EV tech. They are 'all in' on EV. Example: NIO brand uses 'battery swap' tech...3 minutes to remove the discharged battery and install a charged battery. (wow, less than 9 minutes!). Can still conventionally charge + option to swap batteries, and even swap to larger capacity/longer range batteries. The NIO vehicle can also be purchased WITHOUT the battery for lower initial cost. Either way, battery swap also ensures that as battery tech evolves, you will always have latest tech battery. No need to scrap a NIO vehicle due to 'faulty battery'. Amazing tech available...if political pandering wasn't a 'thing'. NIO...worth a look to see how far EV's have come aside from Tesla
@@elgar6743 It's much longer than 3 mins....about 15 mins. I've seen a reel on that. There are drawbacks as well, that's why Tesla gave up that idea of swapping batteries. Actually, Tesla is leading the EV technology...and China is knocking off Tesla's ideas and technologies as much as possible. But for Tesla, China wouldn't be as advanced as it is now in terms of EV technologies. Speaking of quality, both Tesla and the Chinese brands suck. That's why in the long term, Japan and South Korea will be leading.
EV's will become viable when they can do 450-500 range minimum, can fill up in under 5 minutes, can be charged everywhere in the country, can still do 450-500 range when 10-15 years old, don't cost any more the an ICE equivalent. When they can do these then they will match ICE cars for convenience and be a viable alternative for most people.
If people keep buying into the WEF bull crud, they will succeed in establishing smart cities (jails) and then range won't matter, since they will make sure your EV won't make it to the next smart city. You will own nothing. You will have no freedoms. But, somehow, everyone will he so happy.
They can easily make a car that can drive 500 miles the problem is cost, for example tesla model 3 cost 42,000 if it had a battery capacity of 500 miles it would start at 60,000 making it unaffordable to middle class/poorer classes of people so it wont sell many units
So why do all the Turdla shills have to come around here harassing everyone about their EVs? One would think they have an inferiority complex! LOL! Is it a "misery loves company" sort of thing?
Electric vehicles do serve a good purpose when it comes for short city driving. But not good when it comes to long distance driving. That's why I think it is very important that the market should allow it's consumers to have a choice on what powertrain they want thier car to be. Since end of the day, it's the customer's choice to know what's good for them. Not businesses, and certainly not the government.
Even hybrids will be costly to repair and you may not be able to maintain by yourself with all the complex sensors and parts, good old ICE still economical and practical
In my opinion, we’re not paying government officials to be sticking their noses into private industry. I think they can do a good job on their own working for a better future. Way too much government over reach, it’s got to stop.
Electricity can't squash carbon-emissions from running cars. They act like electricity exclusively comes from wind or the sun, but battery-storage is a huge challenge. If hydroelectric was good for the environment, then we'd be building dams. Yes, it might have to be nuclear, but, upgrade the grid before you upgrade the ride, and that isn't really happening.
This is increasingly becoming an America problem. Jurisdictions all over the rest of the world are addressing this issue a lot faster than America is. And other Countries will impose Tariffs on goods and services coming from Countries they see as not hitting emissions targets. And you're right. That answer might be Nuclear.
Nice video Scotty, I very much doubt you did all the graphics, but I have to say excellent narrative. Did you open a new stage of your life and getting into Hollywood productions by Scotty.
If you’re taking consideration the mining for all the materials, And then the fires that come from Evies when they do catch on fire, and then the disposal of these batteries, when they are have reached their short lifespan, I do not think EV’s are better for the environment. They are actually worse for the environment, my opinion.
@@TheLongDon It is but it's a fixable issue. Iron phosphate batteries for example have a far lower carbon footprint and a far lower risk of fires. They also happen to be more recyclable. It is a very fixable issue and newer battery designs continue to come out. There's always plans for things like sulfur and sodium ion batteries which have even lower carbon footprints by even cutting out lithium entirely.
@@timmattle4730 They could tax every vehicle per mile driven, but that would take a lot of extra work to have an employee at the registration authority check the odometer. Yay an excuse to hire more government employees🤪
Wireless went through the same debacle. When 4G was released we had to pick from 2 standards (WiMAX or LTE) without knowing what the final standard would be. Verizon choose LTE while Sprint choose WiMAX. Then the industry standardized LTE and dumped the WiMAX technology which destroyed Sprint.
E.V.s have their role to play but their time hasn't come yet, we need a power grid supplied by clean energy to power them and then for the people who want to own them, that's fine. But right now, all they represent is more money for fossil fuel companies due to the power requirements.
Say that again in 8 years when they go farther than any gas cars on the road. We all know it's coming with how much the range has gone up in the last 10 years.
I drive a hybrid, but will never buy an ev. Dont care about carbon as its a scam about power, not environment. I bought a hybrid for the milage that saves me money
You would have saved even more money buying an EV. Who cares about what the government wants as long as it saves you money? If you don't think carbon matters well then those saying EVs could be just as filthy shouldn't matter. I think they're wrong but still.
@@coachwendy5618 I hope you're right. But with lobbyists, and a two party system (who both look after the their same selfish interests), not only is difficult to change governments but difficult to change policies/laws.
@@RobFishYTyou don’t need to teleport home if you drive your EV locally, like within 100 miles of hour house. You just drive it home and charge it up every day or night using your garage level 2 charger. If you go on long trips often, EV seems like a bad choice.
The speed at which the newer ones are at, it takes less than 25 minutes to charge to 80%. The upcoming technology will allow 5C charging which will fill up the battery to 100% in 12 minutes. Thats about how long it currently takes for a pit stop at a gas station. As other's have said though, you can charge it overnight and get 35+ miles of range on a 120v outlet. a Full battery on a 220v charger. National statistics have 85% of the population driving less than 35-40 miles on a daily basis depending on the year you take statistics for, so that should be more than enough for the majority of people.
I thought that the universal battery system was a great idea, you would pull into a station and the battery would be swapped out in 5 minutes. That would make it faster than a fuel up at a gasoline station. You would only need to standardize a battery system and mounting position. Similar to using a standard usb-c cable for phones.
We are in the technological state where hybrid vehicles make sense. Battery technology isn't advanced enough to support an EV conversion to the norm. Hybrids would promote advancement of the technology while not putting people in a position where they have an impractical vehicle for common use. Especially in a place like the US where we travel very long distances on a regular basis, far more than people in the EU and Asia. EV's don't provide the kind of distance required in a country like the US. That and the environment nutcases need to actually do their research so they stop saying EV's are more environmentally friendly than internal combustion engines. Those batteries are not grown on trees in a commune.
I disagree, I think EVs are plenty for 90% of the population. People way over value the possible range not realizing how little they actually drive. The average American drives 14,260 miles a year; that's only about 40 miles in a day. Even when people go on road trips, they are rarely over 200 miles which nearly any EV on the road could handle. Think it this way, for you to need a charging station you'd need to go on a 4 hour drive. How often do you do that? I think people are way overly concerned about charging times when if you charge at home the car is always topped up. If it's charged at home you'll never need a charging station and it's got the full range before any road trips. Unlike with gas where before any road trip you immediately go to the gas station.
@@stxrobstar how is it freedom to realize you need to get gas on your way to work? Or to think about getting gas on your way home specifically? Doesn't really sound like freedom to me.
@@Skylancer727 Freedom to buy and use whatever vehicle suits my needs (which may not be 'your' needs) without interference from other people who have no vested interest in what I may require to live my life as I see fit. Clutch is a part of most automatic transmissions too, sometimes even more than one clutch 🙂 That's why E-CVT is the most durable thing for big city driving
Remember CO2 accounts for 0.037% of the atmosphere... it's probably not the cause of global warming. Especially since the amount of co2 produced goes up every year despite the politicians laws trying to limit its production. Plus if the amount of co2 produced was even holding steady the planet would be heating up way faster if it were the cause of retaining solar radiation known as the greenhouse effect. The strictest limits on co2 production on the planet are from the kyoto accords and even they are only speculating to possibly lower the global temperature by 0.1C over the next 50 years. So this push to go all electric is just another political scam to get you to do what the leftists want you to do by way of fearmongering over a gas that accounts for less than 1 tenth of one percent of what you breathe in every day.
ha! your comment has just made me go on a whole thought train about how lefties have ruined the education system. it's this whole 'show your working' nonsense they came up with to award their pet pupils exam marks for giving the wrong answer. this sounds absolutely absurd of course but there is method in the madness, i just don't want to type a lefty-length comment to prove it.

We have a 2021 Lexus (Toyota) RX450h Hybrid, our 2nd RRX450h Hybrid (we only thraded the 1019 in for the 2021 for the bird's eeye view camera capabiltiy). we LOVE the hybrid RX450h, both of the ones we had/have. It gives us the best of both worlds. The range of gasoline, electric motor propulsion, except when full power is needed when the engine supplements the eleectric motors for heavy acceleration, great fuel mileage (29mpg), wonderful mileage around toen, and a smooth mode of propulsion. I will continue to favor Hybrid over EV until there is some kind of upgrade for EVs that provide us the benefits of Hybrid, and more.
Reality is unless electricity is being made by generators not powered by coal or natural gas, carbon gasses are still being generated. I pray Toyota offers a better alternative. But I am 68, so literally if it comes it will only be for the last years of my life.

Hi, I just bought a new all gas car. I think electric cars are rushed to market and the existing battery technology is not the the level that makes sense to me. Seems to me that it takes fossil fuel to make charging stations 🚉 operate. Many of existing power stations are slow charging. Charging grid is not ready to handle future proposed demand.
Electric cars are very simple - a battery pack connected to an electric motor. It's not difficult. No oils, clutches, pumps, serpentine belts, crank shafts, gearboxes, timing chains, turbos, exhausts, spark plugs, injectors, filters and every other kind of thing you will be paying for sooner or later.
Always have a Toyota ice vehicle, and then have his n her EV's. Then also have a one ton crewcab longbox diesel truck. Then get a large motorhome. Enjoy life.
I have several issues with EV legislation but regardless, I think it's smart to keep experimenting and let others absorb the R+D costs of full EVs while the market and infrastructure develops. It's a conservative strategy that will probably pay off in the long run.
well it make sense for Texas to push their people away from evs because texas is a big oil producer in the u.s. pretty soon the gas tax gonna disappear because they gonna use a mileage tax instead. so evs and gas cars fees are the same.
If the car sales for ev cars was there, toyota would move in that direction. It's always about the money. Other car makers are losing big money on ev cars. Toyota can see that and said nope.
More likely they'll just do what Australia did where you pay by the mile. Basically you report your mileage annually much like you currently do for insurance.
What about them making you put an address number on your mailbox, and listing your land line in this secret white page undercover, you only get once a year book!
@@Skylancer727 They do make an EV and it sucks. They charge slow, have mediocre software and efficiency. They are now betting on jumping directly on solid state battery and need to buy time trying to market their old hybrids meanwhile. That’s what’s happening
@martinekstrom6303 they don't even sell it everywhere and make less than 10K of them a year. That's basically just a compliance car like the RAV4 EV was. And I like Toyota's software, it has Android Auto. Who wants to have any of the other EVs when they charge you for those same features? And charging times don't matter when you charge at home. Even with the bZ4x it still means you can go 3 hours without a charge. That's plenty for any trips you'd go on.
@@Skylancer727 Toyota do make an EV - The weirdly named BZ-4X, whatever that is supposed to be about. Maybe they are hoping no one realises it is an EV. That was the car in the news recalled because the wheels fell off.
To be honest, carbon is not the enemy. The planet right now could actually handle twice the carbon output we are currently at. Mining all the minerals for EV's is actually worse for the planet. We need to plant more trees. You want an EV, be my guest. Just know that you aren't saving the planet, you're actually doing more harm. I will never own an EV.
@ronz7046 go research how the batteries are made genius ....instead of insulting somebody bring a valuable comment to the table instead of talking out of your sphincter!
TOYOTA is the COOL , smart kid in school...As in every situation we grew up in there is a science fair and Toyota is working on his project He notices , experiments, and acts accordingly
When will people realize- the best most efficient and cheapest way to make the best cars is to let the free market decide. All these bills, laws, regulations do nothing but make car technology slow, expensive, and ineffective. They line the pockets of Tesla and other recipients of the laws and subsidies, but that is a short term effect that ultimately does a disservice to the company, its employees and the consumer (see GM, Chrysler, Ford, US Steel, etc etc)
Two observations. a) I see new gas stations popping up all the time. b) When I travel on the interstate and stop at a rest area there are no ev chargers. We're not going ev in my lifetime, so I'm not worried about it. I'm more worried about a turbo or hybrid that is more costly to buy and maintain for 250k mi than a simple ICE engine than it's worth in any fuel saving.
"Someone", I guess that would be "the government", should be in place to suggest for certain goals to be met. In this case the reduction of pollutants. But to impose punishments for not living up to its suggestions is counterproductive. I believe that if a manufacturer comes up with a workable idea others will try to imitate that idea and improve on it. Just look at the shape of vehicles and how one trend invites others to follow suit. Just look at pick up trucks, even the smaller ones, now all of their hoods are 4 to 5 feet high, which seems 'counter-aerodynamic'. Whatever happened to good driver visibility? As long as "profit" drives any industry we will not solve the pollution problem. Profit depends on ever more customers and more customers are produced by increasing the planet's population, which also keeps the pollution problem alive and well. In other words, it won't be solved unless an 80% reduction in the world population happens. Any volunteers on accomplishing that? Right, I didn't think so. In the end The Planet will solve the human problem because we can't.
Trump would gain a ton of votes if he switched positions on keeping out cheap Chinese-made electric cars. Trump is not going to win over Big Labor no matter what he does. So why not win over the younger voters? And just say he's "pro-choice" and allow the car companies to battle it out
When both Apple and Toyota are not interested in EV it should tell You something, the 2 companies are totally different and they totally agree on this point 🙏🏽💕💘💙
When I am President, small diesel vehicles will be readily available in the United States. Electric vehicles will be limited to recreational vehicles since they destroy the roads and are a threat to national survival.
Inconvenient hazards they are. A big mistake phasing out internal combustion. I do not care for them at all. They also take or kill the driving experience. Besides, cars have been running at 0 or no pollution for many years! Go and regulate or phase out plastics instead.
In my area newer cars seem to generally be lower in numbers. Honestly think I see more EVs than newer gas cars around here in the north east. Even recently scene a few Cyberabominations. Like seriously why would anyone buy those?
I bought my last car (Hopefully) on May 30th, a Camry, out the door for $31K. Starting in 2025 they are only available as a hybrid, and being retired, I did not want to deal with a battery change in 10 years. I took a 250-mile trip, and the dash said I was averaging 44.6 MPG on the highway. The motor isn't even broken in yet!! 8 speed automatic too, CVT's scare me too much.

Solution: Steam engines. can burn biomass as fuel and are generally more effiecient. they may take a while to start up but you can use an electric motor to get going while the water heats up
Hybrids were supposedly an intermediate step toward full electrification. I note that here in Europe, Volkswagen/Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are all still strongly betting on Diesel. Diesel(!). Professional drivers, long commuters, still bet on new Diesels for daily driving. Many get more than 600 miles for each fill-up and last around 250000 miles before engine intervention.
Diesel engines pollute more than any other engine for heavy hydrocarbon release. Steam vehicles would be good if there was a clean energy source to generate heat to produce the steam for the turbine.
I drove a friend tesla and the suspension was extremely stiff, and when she took her phone with her to the doctor office when I was waiting for her the car turned off and to me that is extremely inconvenient

The electric grid can't handle all those proposed electric vehicles and AI electrical demands. I don't see AI going away and electric cars are not as popular or affordable to most consumers.
Well, as I have read and heard, Toyota is going to use BYD's hybrid system in some of its vehicles. I expect that Toyota will also use BYD's LFP EV batteries in its vehicles outside of the United States. Why outside the U.S., the high U.S. tariffs on BYD and CATL battery manufacturers does not allow for their technology advances in EV battery chemistry/technology.
Many older parking structures were built when an average car weighed around 3000 pounds. If all cars become EVs weighing over 4500 pounds and the parking structures also have to support charging infrastructure, I wonder how many will either collapse or be forced to reduce the number of parked cars on each level? Having a collapsed parking garage full of burning EV batteries capable of melting steel girders under a high-rise apartment building may not be ideal.

@@MarkHicks326 There currently exists, 'regenerative braking'...that's where the electric motors, essentially, revert to electric generators...BUT...only when braking or coasting. I just bought an ice Corolla so I probably won't have to worry about buying another car until I'm old. By then maybe common sense and the market will have worked out a better alternative power source, if one is truly required.
I still say the plug in EV will be the largest man made disaster ever made it will have huge ramifications throughout the whole industry as most nations do not have the power generating capacity to deal with them.
None of which applies to Oil, oil derivatives or disposables like spark plugs, injectors, exhausts, pumps, belts, clutches disk brakes and pads. Because the Tooth fairy comes round to your car every night and with a sprinkling of pixie dust, the pollution and carbon footprint magically disappears.

That's the same with all cars dude. At best your car is fresh for that year and next year it will have 5 extra features you missed out on because they held out for annual improvements.

But for Tesla, China wouldn't be as advanced as it is now in terms of EV technologies. Speaking of quality, both Tesla and the Chinese brands suck. They can easily make a car that can drive 500 miles the problem is cost, for example tesla model 3 cost 42,000 if it had a battery capacity of 500 miles it would start at 60,000 making it unaffordable to middle class/poorer classes of people so it wont sell many units

People that follow trends are buying evs.
Car people aren’t interested in electric
No but they are recycledyou total m*r*n!

Electric cars are very simple - a battery pack connected to an electric motor. It's not difficult.

😂😂i resurrected a 1985 honda 250 scooter and its cheap.. easy.. fun.. gets me all over town.. i slip through traffic. I drive my envoy on rainy and or cold days.
EV maybe in 40 years. Not now. I will be too old to drive or be dead.
I’m 78 and have been enjoying EVs for the the last 10 years , sorry you missed out , rest in peace!
@@timmattle4730 I’m I wrong or didn’t Vince say he’d be dead ?
@@ronz7046 When you only have one car and have to use it for work, EV range is a no go. By using for work I don't just mean back and forth, I mean all day long.
@@vince8436 Stop, breathe, ok good , now how many miles do you drive per day, average? Thank you.
@@ronz7046 It's not every day but many days can be several hundred.
@@williamwallace7166 I know they pollute even with urea, I drive BEV but my wife still drives Diesel.
I drove a friend tesla and the suspension was extremely stiff, and when she took her phone with her to the doctor office when I was waiting for her the car turned off and to me that is extremely inconvenient
Our government (uk) are alwzys banging on about how much of out power comes from renewables, wind basically ,and how cheap it i s but the bills still keep gling up. We have dismal charger coverage even this small country is no use for ev.
TOYOTA needs to STOP 🛑 Dragging it's feet and FIRE the current Toyota truck design team with crappy week engines and poor over all design choices. Those new Tundra's are Hideous. Great video Scotty! Love your videos! ❤
Wanna hear 3 letters? E P A
@@Trentm129 They need to hear four letters.
We want more of these format of videos...❤
We don’t have any “options” unless you want a stressed out 4 cylinder turbo for 60 to 70 thousand dollars.
Oh I forgot gen z will be broke.
Gen Z ARE Broke.
For someone like Toyota that wants to give the consumer more choices, they sure don't want to hear the consmer when they say they want the Toyota Stout to be released. As for me, i'm done for whether or not Toyota will release the Stout. The 2025 Ford Maverick has everything i want in a pickup truck, and it's the best pickup out there. It's your loss, Toyota
You can fix it by making our politicians ride bicycles to and from all these ridiculous law meetings. And of course not the electric ones.
EVs will be practical when a standard swap-able battery is adapted.
As you probably already know.... EV maker, " NIO ", has been and is doing, just that...battery swapping.
The hard truth...CHINA is leading the way in EV tech. They are 'all in' on EV.
NIO brand uses 'battery swap' tech...3 minutes to remove the discharged battery and install a charged battery.
Amazing tech available, worldwide...if political pandering wasn't a 'thing'. NIO is leading the way.
@@elgar6743I don't understand why the electric vehicles can't recharge themselves and the four wheels turning generate electricity back into system.
@@MarkHicks326 There currently exists, 'regenerative braking'...that's where the electric motors, essentially, revert to electric generators...BUT...only when braking or coasting. This regen braking energy, this electricity, is used to top up the main battery...in a similar vein as to how the alternator works on an ICE engine, to keep the battery charged.
I'd like to know how much carbon is burnt sending all those rockets up.
I just bought an ice Corolla so I probably won't have to worry about buying another car until I'm old. By then maybe common sense and the market will have worked out a better alternative power source, if one is truly required.
Hydrogen, hydrogen fuel cells, propane. Lng,, all those ard. Better options than batery operated cars
I still say the plug in EV will be the largest man made disaster ever made it will have huge ramifications throughout the whole industry as most nations do not have the power generating capacity to deal with them.
Fuel cell is the only way to go
The new Tesla Cyber truck is awesome.
Saw one last night it looks like a cardboard box on Wheels ugly as sin!
Something about mitsubishi, Nissan, and Honda Merger? What's that all about?
The world needs to cut the carbon footprint of mining, processing, transportation, production of Lithium batteries, and disposal when depleted.
I’m with Toyota there still issues with fully electric vehicles and I don’t believe BEV is sustainable
You’re right after 12 yeats of owning a EV ,wait what?
50% of cars in the world are operated by people WHO DON'T HAVE ELECTRICITY. Toyota puts the gas door on drivers side where gas stations have pumps. They put it on passengers side where a guy on the roadside with drums and jerry cans standing on the side of the road. Its 50%-50%
