Had a Russell DL on my '99 Valkyrie Interstate and loved it. Completed a few 6-8k rides xcountry and realized that I didn't even think about the seat. It was a perfect fit and so comfortable it didn't register in my thoughts. Great Customer Service!

      What a great testimonial-
And you’re right- one shouldn’t have to think about it all…
Apparently the designers of the Gen 6 do not subscribe to this philosophy?
Sounds like you’ve seen a lot of this country…
Stay safe out there and thanks for taking time to share your POV on the RDL-

None of those. Here's what I did. 2021 GW Tour. Remove seat, remove staples, peel back cover, peel back heating element, I took a 1/2 hole saw and cut out perfectly round pieces of foam. All the way down to seat pan, I spaced them 1.5 inches apart. I did this across the entire span of the seat. This allows the foam to compress much easier, next j bought a 1/2 inch gel pad from Amazon. $60. I then cut out the exact pattern into the foam, I used spray adhesive and placed the gel pad directly into the cutout. Perfect fit. I replaced heating element and cover. Re stapled the cover, done. I put ten thousand miles on this seat. It's absolutely perfect. All in cost me $65.

You WIN the grand prize for ingenuity and problem-solving- I just read this to my husband and you should’ve seen his face light up. Then you should’ve seen his face sink, when he realized he didn’t want to be responsible for this level of risk. And by risk, I mean laziness. Perhaps I can convince him to do a little aftermarket customization in our garage like you did sounds like a wonderful way to attack the problem, and in the most and the most affordable way yet.
Thanks for this information and thanks for watching the video- really grateful-

All are good seats, I've had them all, I've had Road Kings, Softails, Electra Glides, Honda CB's, Honda Goldwings all with different seats. I like to do long rides mostly 400-500 mile days with 10-20 days out per trip. I currently have the Russel Day Long seat on my 2020 Goldwing Tour, and it's been the best seat I've ever sat on for long rides. Zero to very very minimum discomfort on long days on the bike, and at the end of the day or trip I'm absolutely feeling more energetic and comfortable. I'm 75, been doing this since I was 15, I really like and highly recommend the Russel Day Long seat for longer rides.

@@MiddleAgeRoadRage Yes, I went in for a fitting, rode the bike in got there about 8:30, they gave me my first fitting and took measurements and ask what I specifically wanted in the seat fit, they gave me a loaner seat for my bike and I took off for a local ride. The called me to come in for my first test fit, they made a few adjustments, and I left for lunch, later they called me back for the final fitting, Everything was good, so they put the seat together and called me about 2 hours later to put the new seat on my bike. The whole fitting to finished seat took about 6 1/2 hours. I rode the bike home that day which was about 260 miles and just loved the feel and comfort of the seat!

I've been riding with a Corbin seat on 4 goldwings since 1996. It is very firm and your butt breaks in before the seat, had a 2002 goldwing with a Corbin, drove 105,000 miles on it, did (6) 1,000+ mile IBA and (2) 1,500+ mile IBA runs. My 2021 GW Tour DCT has a Corbin. Bottom (pun intended) line, it's what fits your bottom that makes the seat work 😃

I live in the northeast and they shipped it from California at a special rate of $150 (based on the size box it would normally cost $300). I had an issue and had to send it back at no cost either way for me. I carry an Airhawk seat cushion with me for long highway rides. We've heard a lot of great things about all three seats. We wish we could sell RDL on WingStuff but they understandably only sell direct. As you mentioned in your vid it really comes down to rider preference. One rider might absolutely love a stiffer Corbin seat while the next guy or gal might hate it! Our owner, Rick, has a Corbin on his Wing and he's very happy with it. He feels that it compliments his Helibars perfectly!

I received my RDL seat and used it for around 1000 miles. It was an improvement over the OEM seat, but I started feeling uncomfortable after 90-105 minutes. I spoke to RDL and they requested I send the seat back for adjustment. The builder of my seat actually called me and we discussed about discomfort areas. My seat was turned in less than a week and the result is night and day. So far seat is working well for me and my wife and have not found a ride limit due to discomfort. Without a doubt this is the most comfortable motorcycle seat I’ve had the pleasure to ride on. Highly recommend Russell products and their team.

I have owned a half dozen or so HD touring bikes and invested in HD, Russell, Mustang and Corbin seats for long distance riding. I am an above average built guy and ride 10-20,000 miles per year and have had many day end pains. I heard about the Russel Day Long seats from a Gold Wing blog and decided to give them a try. The Mustang and Corbin seats were most painful to me on long
rides. The Russel seat is by far the best touring seat I have ridden long distances on. For me, I will always have a Russell Day Long seat on any touring bike I own. The customer service, quality and comfort is best in class of the seats I have owned.

The Russell has a lot of fans and evangelists, but the lines of the bike work don’t seem to flow with the RDL seat in our eyes 👀

@@MiddleAgeRoadRage I did not get the one with heat. I have heated gear so I didn't see the need for the heated seat. The Saddlemen seat does complement the bikes lines very well.
The way I look at it is if you sit on anything long enough you are going to need to stand up and stretch out after a while. By the stock seat left me in pain so that had to go. 🙂

For my money it's the RDL and I mean it cuz that's what's on my '19 tour. I had one on an ST1300 years ago and it was seriously comfortable, so after I discovered the torture device that they supplied with the new gen wings for a seat, and I started pricing the RDL... took me a minute to get because we bought property and moved in 2020.. and things like tractors had to take priority.. butt now it's on and now I can cruise the Texas Hill Country or head for either coast and not worry about my backside..

@@MiddleAgeRoadRage Shape is a big part of it.. on the previous gen 'wing stock seat I could do an Iron Butt ride with out meaning to.. both the RDL on the new wing and stock on the old support your whole butt evenly which means no shifting around trying to get comfortable because one part is supporting all your weight which is the major malfunction with the stock seat ... and it's only mushy compared to Corbin.. just about anything else out there is lots fluffier.. Kake has a Corbin and loves it. The Corbin is too stiff for my rear end. So I looked into the Russell Day Long and thought I would go with them because of the softer foam, plus the factory is only about 225 mi from our doorstep. Butt (lol) I just never got around to making an appointment.

As with any custom saddle, it takes a few thousand miles for the memory foam to learn ones
tush. But after that it's truly great.

@@MiddleAgeRoadRage First, let me say that I have had an Ultimate on my 1500 Goldwing and now my 1800 Goldwing. I LOVE THEM!! I've spoken to the shop personel in Canada and Florida, and they are great. Their return policy is excellent. I even got my brother one for his 1800 and he loves it as well. To be honest, I did try other aftermarket seats, but the Ultimate (for me) was far better than anything I've ridden on.
In reference to the waterproofing, I have never had any problem at all. Mind you, I have not been in any major down pours, but for standard water issues, including washing the bike, not one issue. The cover was free and no hassle to put on. I always cover my seat when I get off from the sun, birds, rain, etc, just by habit. I guess it all boils down to how you protect your seat.

I have a Saddleman Road Sofa on my 2022 Goldwing. (About $900.00 with back rest) I bought it because it was "off the rack" and I could just throw it in a cart and purchase. It's pretty good, and much better than stock, but I'm old and I need soft. My buddy has a Russell Day Long (about $1400.00). The thing about Russell is you have to be put on a waiting list, and preferably make an appointment at the facility for a fitting. This could take a few months, so I opted out. It is a very plush seat and had I had the time I would have chosen the Russell. ( I do coast to coast rides). Another note: If you get the stitching (like I did) and it rains, water will leak through the upholstery and you will have wet foam and you will get swamp ass.

      Hey there- thank for watching.
Butt (get it?) we thank you even more for your insight and information review comment of the Saddleman vs RDL-
The stitching issue sounds serious- and we’ve heard this is a flaw/issue with folks who use the Ultimate Seat-
      Comfort is King-
The RDL seems to be a winner there-
It’s not the best looking, but probably does the best job overall for comfort!

I knew several people that have Corbin and they say the stiffness was only noticeable at first. They have a great reputation.

Hey- thanks for watching and leaving a comment-
We do hear often about Corbin’s break in period. It seems we hear more positive than negative comments overall…

Isn't it a shame that you pay $30 K. for a bike and get a $30 seat? ALL of the Manufacturers put cheap seats on their bikes. I have been using Corbin for the last 20 years on my 'Wings. They are firm. They have support. Soft and plush is not the answer. They won't change after 100K. miles. You will not have a sore butt after a 700 mile day, or a week of long days in the saddle. OR a chapped butt and you men know what goes with that. The leather seating area will absolutely not sweat your butt, crotch, and thighs. The plastic or "Noggy-hide" absolutely will sweat you. Corbin closed their East coast location, so a drive in service is out for East U.S. I don't know about the other aftermarket seats, but I can tell you to save your money as far as beads, airbags, animal skins, etc. Happy Trails!

$30 seat- that’s funny and seemingly correct 🫠even tho maybe $5? We agree that the Corbin is stiff- but the way the mold it to you in the ride service seems top notch- sorry to discover that the east coast is ending the ride in- wow !
Lucky for us, they’re only about a three hour or so ride from here…
Thank you soooo much for watching and taking the time to comment.
And for sharing your opinion with such an informative comment!

I like the Corbin on my 2014 Wing, (seat as purchased June of 2022,) but I can't recommend one to anyone with a Wing because Corbin is not willing or capable of building a seat heater that works with the electronics of the bike. The Thermistors are out of specifications to get the heater control module to turn on the heating element. I just had my seat returned from Corbin, (12/11/23) and they say it works fine. Customer service, response, updates were non-existent. Their failure to admit they have a problem with the electronics in the seat is unbelievable. The seat heaters appear to have had issues for a very, very long time. I think if I were there, I'd step up their program so the seats actually function with the bike they are designed for. Did I say I am extremely disappointed with Corbin?
