  • Summer series video showing one of the common summer time scrap finds, the lawn mower! Do you scrap it as is? Take it apart? or fix and sell? This video shows you a basic break down, money from the scrap metal, AND, the big winner in this one, the money made from selling parts.

    The aluminum flywheel on top of engine is all aluminum except for the magnets that are pressed into it , the magnets when going past the ignition coil react with the ignition coil creating the high voltage necessary to fire the spark plug , you may be able to remove the magnets ! Also when taking the crankshaft out always remove the connecting rod and slide the rod and piston out of the engine ? Plastic gas tanks and GOOD ignition coils are worth more for parts of course but always write down the model of mower and tag the parts so you know what you have ! Great video !

    I think I am scrapping the same (briggs and stratton) engine.. the piece he says at 5:02 is aluminum, is magnetic in my case.. so I guess it can't be.. or it's an alloy of some sort?

    Thanks for the vid I got a mower and knew the motor was worth more than light iron so took it off and threw it off to the side. Now I'll have to go at it and get it apart soon. Plus this will help me know more about how this stuff works.

    just so you know Mr.Moose , mower coils are worth between $40 and $120 New . So if you can get spark it's a good Idea to take the Make and model Number off the mower Deck and Sell it On Ebay for half of new. ( make and model of Mower are very important when you sell some parts, as the same engine from another brand may not fit another .

    Hello Moose. I have stumbled upon two truck campers that have roof damage (both) and leaked for a year. The interior is ruined and moldy and none of the appliances work. There would be a fridge stove water pump and furnace. Have you ever scrapped a camper before? Also the siding is aluminum and not the newer fiberglass ones.

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, never scrapped one of those before, I would love to hear how it turns out! I have scrapped the individual parts though and made vid on em, all but the fridge that is.

    Hey Moose, great vid. Too bad we missed out on the sledge, lol. Here's my deal, I've been piling up scrap for years: car alternators, electric motors, aluminum siding, grills, many push mowers, motorcycle aluminum wheels, odds and ends. That and I own/operate a motorcycle salvage yard mostly Jap bikes from 1960 to the mid 80's, over 1200 cycles, mopeds, atv's and snowmopiles. Just the front fork bottoms alone (on rusted forks only!) would add up to hundreds of pounds of aluminum. My problem....I'm too busy trying to eek out a living selling parts on evilbay (and paying them and PayPal and fed tax) and ignoring the scrap. I make barely enough to pay the bills with a little money left over for fun. I'm a consummate procrastinator and um, hoarder. Any ideas?

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I dont know what your expenses are, or how much money you make on ebay, but I think if you could try to manage a few hours on one day a month to get to the scrap yard I think you will find it worth it and end up forcing yourself to make more trips. Don't get me wrong, you should sell what you can on ebay, but what does not sell, scrap it. Try not to go with just a load of iron though, you will liekly be dissappointed if you go with just that. Try a load of half Al and half Fe. Best of luck to you, I totally get the issues with eeking out a living and finding time, between my 40 hour a week job, scrapping, ebay, and youtube, two kids, wife, pets, home to maintain...the time just slips away!

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +allan bayne The only two ways that I know of are to use a pair of jaw pullers, you put a bolt in the middle hole that is longer than the depth of the hole as a base for the jaw pullers to push against, or use two prybars on each side and try to pry off gently. SOmetimes it needs to soak with a little liquid wrench overnight.

    Just curious, do you pay a lot of eBay fees? Your structure may be different in Canada? but in Aus it always seems like I'm bent right over on fees. I sell a little, mainly car parts I won't use, mainly under $100 per item and I'm paying around 20% in eBay/PayPal fees. Also, you should invest in a good set of gear pullers and maybe even a harmonic balancer puller set, it may make things a little easier, I recently bought a 3 and 4 jaw puller and some bearing separaters, damn they've been used. If it won't fit onto my press, one of those, or my slide hammer comes out to play.

    • @moosescrapper5928

      HI and thanks for watching! I am actually in the US and as for the ebay fees, they drop once you have sold a certain amount or become a power seller. My fees are now a flat 10% which is completely manageable for me, especially since everything I post is stuff I get for free! lol. Best of luck to ya mate!

      I have not found any one set that has all those little bits, but You can go to most hardware stores, I went to an ACE hardware and found a bit set that has about 50 bits, all the phillips, flat, hex hear, allen, torx etc and then I ordered a tamper proof bit set from ebay for $5. Those two sets together get me through 99.99% of my scrapping.
