My excellent scrap yard allows plugs on with low grade insulated. A while back I did what you are doing and weighed up the brass and copper, did some math and it paid more to just leave the plugs on! Big time saver. I just got some older outlets and the screws are brass as well. For me its a hammer on concrete. Older outlets are more brittle! Time is money. My last brass cash in was $2.40/lb for clean brass, the highest that I have seen. I had a 50lb. box, but it has been a while. $510 total load in my old Toyota Celica!!

My scrap yard doesn't care if I don't cut plugs off, in which case I recommend not cutting them off because of problems you had with 1st plug. Sometimes the Copper in plug has a collar, in which case it won't pull out with plug. As for dryer plug, bothcutters can get prongs out.

Putting these in boiling water for a few minutes makes this job simple but they cool down quickly so you have to kind of balance it with doing 10 or so at a time between projects. If you accumulate a substantial amount, and every scrapper should have a bucket full after 6 months of scrapping, it is time well spent.
    Peace
