I scrap at 75 and its the best job for retired people .its better money then watching tv or paint drying.i made over 4thousand last summer after the snow was gone in mn. I completely scrap out everything .totaly clean metals etc. And seperate .i probably make 10cents an hr.but i have fun picking and scrapping.its not always about money if it makes you happy.
Thank you, Curtis, for your comment, having a steady income makes scrapping that much better, as we are not having to do it for an income, but as extra income, and something to do to keep our hands and minds busy. all scrap will sell whether it is a whole item or clean to the bone, we should do all we can to enjoy our retirement years after having to work for a living for a lifetime, you take care and enjoy your time
Me neither I remember when I was young living up in Washington State, there was a Chevy dealer who would take a sledge hammer to a car for his commercials, fun to watch
Like playing a first person view okie scrapper special edition video game. Tools of choice are ball peen, punch and impact drill😎. I scrap the mowers even gut the engine for the aluminum. Lots of work but fun if you have the tools, and a bit of experience. Never a dull moment for a scrapper😊 Great video🫵😎
some I try to get them running. but some I just scrap out. not sure if you have seen my melting pot. I take the aluminum motor and melt it down with a waste oil burner and make ingots. and sell them on eBay, I plan to melt some aluminum soon
@@Okiescrapper You showed the aluminum pot in the video. Very cool. Making ingots is pretty sophisticated repurposing scrapping. I part time scrap. Definitely lots to learn. Especially how much to process for value vs your time. Not all scrap yards are the same that’s for sure. What does an aluminum ingot go for🤔
@@Okiescrapper That’s awesome. Your shop looks well setup for processing scrap. I’d like to have a place outside the city. 5-6 acres. Then I could learn to melt metal. Great videos. Laid back easy to follow🫵😎
yeah not much there and with the price on aluminum not hardly worth it, but cast does add up the weight more then other aluminum, I know the barrel is a lot heaver then the extruded and sheet,
not sure what is causing my hard breathing, they listen to my lungs and tell me it sounds good. they took x-rays and tell me it looks good went to the hospital for a breathing test and it came back good. then they check my heart. did an ultrasound, and a stress test, and an other x ray type thing. and all they told me on that one was the main artery exiting the heart is about 4 cm too big. they did say if I loose some weight I may not breath so hard
Interesting video Allen. I used to drop the engines whole and get dirty aluminum. Plus the little bit of shred from the deck and handle. Some of the earlier mowers (Lawn Boy for example) had aluminum decks.
I never have gotten one out of a Briggs motor. but you may be able to cut it out. I need to see if my plasma cutter can cut it out, now a Tecumseh motor you can take a punch and hammer and knock out the pins that hold the magnet and counterweight in, the aluminum on the back is thin
$5.00 in scrap value plus over $80.00 in add revenue from the video, yeah I think that I made the right decision, no telling how much money I would have had to put into that mower to get it running
Good day Yes they are some cast aluminum on mowers. I tried to get magnet out, my was cast in. yea the head is easy. Also because melt it down alot quicker removing it. Thanks
yeah on the Briggs motors the magnet and counter weight are cast into the flywheel. you may be able to cut them out, but I just melt them, Take care Don
hi just found your channel :) love watching scrap and smelts. Dont pay so much attention to the camera do your work if you feel like the gopro on the head feels bad when it comes to filming and you dont have a gigant beard use a chest mount. bigstackD Casting has a some good tips on how to do your own tools for the smelting in his diy video. Keep up the good work looking forward to more videos :)
Thanks for the tips! I watched a video of moose scrapper making tongs, and I think he got the spec's from bigstackD I will check his videos and see if I can find it
I just found your channel. I too do scraping. I own a small engine shop. But down here they won't take smelted metals down here. So I usually just break the blocks up.
most yards wont take the smelted metals as they can't check the purity of it. my plan is to sell the ingots on eBay to the guys that do sand casting. I need to get some ready and get them posted and see if they do any good, Thanks for watching
Yes it is I have it out there so that I can make a set of lifting tongs. to that I can remelt my cupcake ingots and make some nice rectangle ones. look in my play lists I melt lawnmower motors for the aluminum with a waste oil burner
@@Okiescrapper I'll look for it. Got a question I'm hoping you can answer. What are these silver colored prongs on the power cords made of? They aren't magnetic.
even if they need rings and a valve job? plus new cables. a new blade. better to spend my time on fixing a riding mower, and I don't have the time to fix them all. I will bet I have over 100 mowers in the back field. 50 + riders
yes I do, I have a tablet that I need to down load the gopro app onto so I can use It as a monitor think it has an 8 or 10 inch screen, it would be easier to see. I try to keep an eye on the monitor as I am bad about getting into the job and not being in view thanks for watching John
yeah, the yards don't like ingots but the sand casters on eBay sure do. I sell a 10 lb. lot for $39.95 with free shipping, after shipping cost and eBay fees I make just over $26.00 so that is $2.60 a lb. and what does aluminum breakage pay? about 10 - 15 cents a lb.
Thanks! I like your attention to detail and how you show step by step as you use your tools

I have seen some craftsman with aluminum decks too
why do i always feel likes im watching your videos through a hole in a fence?

i save pull starters to sell to customers who need one
and the coil needs to be saved too
All that time dismantling you might have had her running. Parts and running machines are worth more than the scrap right?
You need to clean your shop Elmer
no money in that, but yes it does need cleaning, I need to get a new housekeeper
if you havent priced cables lately ..people need those too
a lot of the cables that I have are locked up,

I use a rider too much grass to use one of them, I may brush hog next year
You neet if you could use a flat screen TV for your monitor
I got a small monitor but yes a small flat screen will work, I am using a micro hdmi to full size hdmi adaptor and a hdmi cord to the monitor now
I made a lot of money on lawnmowers
I have fixed a few and sold them, some are easy to fix. I have a few that I may try to do a rebuild on someday
These days you might just throw it in your smelter
that is true, I have a big pile of aluminum motors
