    If you crack open the plastic dials and timers and water pressure switches on washers and dryers, there are lots of brass bits that have several silver buttons on the tips. I even found on a motor where the wires attach there was another plastic box with brass connectors and silver switches. They are everywhere on these! Collect a jar of those, after a while it adds up!

    Hey those timers and little copper bearing motors are easy to get the copper out of. Just smack them with a hammer and out pops a roll of bare bright copper.

    So how much money would you hope to fetch if you sold all that metal to a local place that will buy it?

  • @elizabethratnik2621
    @elizabethratnik2621 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Probably worth more than 98 cents, depends on what you found, if u had alot of pre-82 pennies and nickels, it could be worth upto a combined melt value for keepers and face value for the spenders of $1.50, if u got over $2 worth, u did really well and they'd have been pretty much all pre-82 pennies, coinflation is a great place for info of that nature.

    Nice work Moose! Just wondering...how do I tell the difference between copper and brass and silver and aluminum on those chord ends and contacts? Also is it more valuable - in your opinion to sell the motors or to take them apart for the soft metal? Thanks and looking forward to more of your videos.

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, If the motor has copper windings in it then you will make more money taking those apart. If not, then sell as an electric motor in my opinion. as for the cord ends, they are almost always brass. I have never seen aluminum cord ends, may be nickel plated brass. As for silver, thats an art of knowing where to look and then testing them chemically. Silver will always be where a connection needs to be made lie in switches and relays.

      Thanks for the reply...I am going to go through my copper bin now and separate the brass now. Feeling good. ☺

    I throw those motors in with my copper bearing ones and they buy them at my scrap yard. I guess it all depends how you can fool a scrap yard lol. They make a lot of money off of us scrappers anyways. Moose Scrapper how do you take the silver contacts of the copper their on? Would like a video on that I have collected a few pounds just not sure on how to separate.

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a few ways, but the most common and easiest ways are to either dissolve the base metals away with nitric acid (fastest and most dangerous) or soak them in HCL and peroxide like in the gold recovery process (slower But safer)

    Moose what do you get for the 8LB motor? What does the scrap yard pay you for Cast Aluminum 8 pounds as a complete motor?

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would get about $1.60 whole. More like 3 if taken apart, well over $15 if it still works sold on ebay.

    • @RapperJimmyJames
      @RapperJimmyJames 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get about 10 of these motors a week. I will take your advice and sell them on ebay for now on. My local yard pays 6 cents a pound seriously lol. They pay as heavy metal only. Not worth scrapping. I get allot of good front load washer parts too I'm gonna try my luck selling them on ebay.

    I have done MANY office copier/printer/fax/ blah blah blah.......the switches I have found hold big ( nugs ) of silver and billet aluminum as well as extruded. Have you ever done a video with office computers?

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay Stevens I am actually set to do my first one in spring when its warm enough outside and my garage door is no longer frozen shut lol. I do not think I have done a video with office computers, like servers, they are pretty close to the same as regular PCs, at least the ones I have found. Thanks!

      Moose Scrapper I have a big dryer washer combo thing in my garage that doesn't work, how much money do you think the whole thing would be worth if I scrapped it?

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      LostTranslation85 Prices are low right now so I would say that as a whole you might get $7 for it, if you pull the wire and motors out, aluminum, etc, you could bring that up to maybe $15.

    • @LostTranslation85

      ATCRyderX© basically. I think the point I was trying to make is that you can almost double the money from it by ripping out a few parts.
