Price of the boxes are getting too out of hand for any new collectors like the kids to get involved. $250 - $500 per box for a 1 in 100 chance at breaking even is not sustainable.
Why not in Atlanta?? Plenty of room at WCC, directly on MARTA from the airport, a dozen large hotels within a stone's throw, central location for the entire country.
@@PunisherSportsCardsbecause Cleveland and NJ are central right? The truth is most sellers at the national are based in the NE and they will never come to Vegas, dallas etc
What he said about women in the hobby is 100% true. I’ve collected on and off since I was a kid, and just getting into it again since I’ve been participating in fantasy sports for the last year and am getting to know all the players again. There’s something about both cards and fantasy sports that makes men think it’s ok to regress to sexist Neanderthals (either latently or overtly). I don’t feel welcome or respected in either, which is both off-putting and makes me want to get really knowledgeable about both just so I can best all the jerks.
@AlisonD713 what are you going on about? There are scumbag men and women in every profession, hobby, etc. Just a lot more men in trading cards, and a lot of them are miserable angry little men.
Brian Gray is the Man. I’d love to see some of his collection in a video. Also coming from someone who rips a ton of wax and also collects sealed product, I’d like to see how much older leaf boxes/cases he might have
This just might be the BEST video about the state and future of the Hobby we all love so much! Truly a video all members of the Hobby should watch and absorb the good!
Geoffs interviews with Brian Gray are his best ones by far because theyre the only ones where Geoff shuts the hell up and lets someone else talk. Because Brian has 10000000000000x the knowledge of the hobby that Geoff does
I’m hopeful with Fanatics movement towards more entertainment focused collectibles and experiences at Fanatic’s Fest that they’ll start to push into the entertainment/pop culture card industry. We see a lot of success with Star Wars, I personally would love to rip cards with auto potential or screen worn mems for some of my favorite shows or films.
Dallas, Vegas or MAYBE LA should be the only cities. Dallas is centralized and Vegas/LA unlocks international travelers. I can’t believe he dismissed Vegas so quickly because the organizers are afraid of “gamblers”. When gamblers are half the hobby. Imagine watching people opening Flawless cases on high-stake blackjack tables. That’s how you get big money in the hobby. Vegas would bring in celebrities into the hobby easily. The trade nights would be unbelievable. Play to the fantasy of these collectors. Make the hobby “cool” again. Nerds are not going to “10x the hobby”. Hope fanatics does it instead. They’re not thinking like timid nerds. Fanatics are forward thinking and will take risks. If the National goes to Dallas/LA/Vegas….. I’ll go to all of them.
Maybe LA? No OC/LA should be a choice for sure, nobody can compete with what the area will attract weather, ocean, entertainment, etc. If not the Burbank show keeps getting bigger and better each time it's held.
@@socalrams74 I like LA, but the already crazy traffic and natural tourism in summer might be great, or it might be worse. I think it hurts East Coast travelers. I like Vegas or Dallas. Vegas has everything we need in one spot. Dallas is fair game for everyone in the country.
@@johnwaynecollection Once you are there at the hotel (Anaheim) everything is walking distance or a short Uber ride if need be. People would take vacatios around the National. great overall video.. really enjoy listening to brian gray… very interested in what his next role it in the hobby… i can tell he is passionate about it...
I dont think increasing the women in the hobby will get much traction…. women just are not generally inteterested in the hobby base… I dont think they ever will.. maybe can increase the numbers some but not much… I just dont think that is the way to grow the hobby… its other avenues with men… it will always be a men dominated hobby….
I’ve tipped him on whatnot before, haha asked him how many tips he gotten sense he is a millionaire and I was the first one! Great to see him on the Jeff Wilson show!!! Great guys!!
If it were really that big and well attended it should 100% be in Vegas logistically. But it obviously isn’t, It’s mid-level and should stay somewhere in the middle of the country. Mid way coast to coast.
Just to add to my last comment, seems like people are concerned about their safety at Mc Cormick place downtown Chicago …Anywhere you go theirs gonna be safety issues!!..They have all kinds of major shows there , year round!! Theirs ALWAYS security at major convention shows their !!.if that place was so horrible they would cancel all conventions there !
Maybe Fanatics can convince Jimmy Haslam to buy a little more land in Brooke Park to build one of the largest convention centers in the county. The new stadium location is next to the airport, the RTA train system, will have onsite hotels, restaurants, plenty of parking, as well as able able to use the stadium to host a fan football experiences with players, a concert, or other event. Wishful thinking, but these new stadium sites are turning into cities.
Good Afternoon Geoff, I realize that this video has been published 6 days ago, but, can someone please ask Brian his opinion on the CT scan situation? Thank you.
Someone should create an idea where at these big conventions it has a big store with all cards listed by names and sports no matter who the seller is. A lot of work but that would be INSNAE and beautiful.
What does union labor in Vegas have to do with not going there? DES center and IX center also use union labor. McCormick place as well. Most convention centers for that matter.
If the promoters are "committed" to reinvest in the hobby and the show ... Why is the only group that didn't give a free gift in the VIP GIFT BAG ... THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION THEMSELVES. THERE WASN'T ONE FREE GIFT FOR PURCHASING A VIP PASS IN THE GIFT BAG FROM THE NATIONAL. EVERYTHING WAS FROM VENDORS AND VERY SPARSE THIS YEAR. ALSO THINGS LIKE BAITING PEOPLE IN FOR FREE PARKING TO BUY A VIP PASS AND THEN HAVING FREE PARKING ACROSS THE WHOLE FACILITY ANYWAYS LEAVES A BAD TASTE.. I know these are minor things. But new people coming into the Hobby and coming to these shows and spending the money on a VIP pass are going to have a bad taste
We have been to every National in the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. They have made improvements every year. We hope they never move it to downtown Chicago. If you think crime was bad in Atlantic City try 10 X THAT in downtown Chicago !!! We been to Chicago 14 times for other things and they ruined downtown in just the last 4 years !!! It WAS our favorite destination city but you couldn’t pay us enough to go downtown now. There are plenty of hotels within an easy half hour drive from Rosemont without even getting on the Interstate highways.
only way the market doesn’t crash if CJ turns out to be the next Patrick Mahomes and wemby turns out to be the next Tim Duncan when it comes champions for San Antonio
No way you’re going to get women in the hobby my wife loves football but she’s never going to get into cards, I would go after the fantasy football and sports gamblers I crossed over to cards. We know all the players from fantasy and sports gambling, cards work the same with the hype of players. I kinda don’t want my buddies to cross over more competition lol it’s easy right now ;)
If Peter Griffin could be a real person 👀

Don’t blame him. Geoff doesn’t have any original thoughts to add anyhow.

Is the fact he hasn't been this excited about the Hobby since 1991 really a good thing ? We all know where the Hobby went by the end of that decade.
