@@B1GG4M3R44 the hobby treats bookends fairly similarly, FOTP (first off the print) and LOTP (last off the print) are terms used but it's a perceived premium by collectors. Jersey match numbers are also popular and equivalently treated.

So I haven't collected cards since the mid 90's and needed some education. My six year old son in wanting to start collecting, and I might as well be a rookie in this hobby again. I found this video and it's so incredibly helpful. The app is amazing as well. Thank you for this.....and Go Gators.

unless it`s the top 1% of players, Brady, Jordan etc. you will never get the money back that you invest unless you get the rare great deal. You will have difficulty selling your cards. Card shops are rare, ebay is a crap shoot. I`d collect for your enjoyment.

It's nice to actually find someone who's willing to share the information and to help new and fellow collectors. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to learning alot more.

I'm starting to love this channel and I'm a newbie..I'm gathering so much knowledge before making mistakes and there are wayyy more than I thought! So thank you for that. I come at the sports card world again after buying a small shoebox worth of cards 1990s football primarily but I bout from retail, mom and pop and even bought some cards off a friend who was a huge collector. I started scanning my box with the Ludex App and most were worth maybe 15c 70c or not much over $3 a good number were worth between $5-40....whether or not I command any such dollar online or at a card shop might not be likely but and ungraded but perhaps there's a couple.

I was a huge sport card fan in the 90's I kinda stopped when my favorite card company Upper Deck went away. Now I see my little brother is into getting into the hobby & teaching me about all the different variants of cards & what to look out for. I'm in my late 40's & my eyes are not to keen on spotting defects on raw cards. With grading being so expensive I can't afford to pay high end money on a raw card & hope to get a 10.

Wow!! So I recently got back into collecting and when I say recently I mean about a month ago. I would say 100% of what you said about ripping sealed wax boxes was true for me. I did purchase some hobby boxes and opened them up immediately and even though I did it for fun I also did it for investing as well. Clearly big mistake lol. So I’ll take a new approach from here on out and get 2-3 hobby boxes so if I DO get the urge to open a box then at least I’ll still have one or two left to store lol. Thank you for what you do, definitely subscribed to your channel after this video even though I have been recently watching them. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Jeff I'm 45 years old been collecting my whole life and when I pull or purchase a sweet PC it goes on my nightstand right next to where I sleep they are my babys until my next one comes along, you know I only have so much room on my nightstand. I hate it and it almost brings me to tears that my 8 year old son doesn't hardly get to enjoy the heavenly joy of pulling a sweet PC like I have done my whole life up until about 7-8 years ago when the price of boxes or hell even packs seemed to almost tripled. I can't even afford to rip anymore but what bothers me more is my son doesn't get to. Having a family and putting a roof over their heads, food in their stomachs, and clothes on their backs. There's not enough money left to pay the price they want for just one pack never less a hobby box or retail for that matter. It just kills me that my son will probably never get to experience the joy and the love of ripping😢

With soccer Topps have the Bundesliga and UEFA champions league licences. I think Topps still have MLS. Panini's big 2 are FIFA and the English Premier league. They also pretty much have every national major league in Europe like la liga, serie A etc. There is Futera that have a few teams licences like PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool. Manchester City, Wolves etc.

My opinion on licensing Is that the only aesthetic difference is not including team logos. That can make for a cleaner card look in some ways. The most collectible cards. Blank slate, downtown, kaboom, etc don't need the team names/logo's to still be good cards.
Licensing is great sure. But here's the thing. 2018-19 panini select baseball and 2018-19 select basketball have wildly different values strictly due to the licensing issues. You can get top tier select parallels of trout (gold tie die etc) for less than $1k easily from the non-licensed years. Whereas a licensed trout gold will probably make you 10X that. It's weird how licensing. A mostly non-visual aspect affects prices so much when in 10 years nobody will remember off the top of their heads who had licenses when. Sure they may notice the logo gone. But if they dont care then it's still a top tier card of a top tier player made in a top tier brand by a top tier card producer. The fact that a license that barely impacts anything makes people pay so much less is weird to me. I get it. But panini was making licensed select basketball at the same time they made unlicensed select baseball. They're not knock-offs like sage. In the future nobody will care if a trout gold has no license. It's a trout gold from panini lol.

My dad, cousins, and uncles passed on hundreds of random cards to me and my brother when we were growing up. I have been going through a few of them. Some cards are very old and very cool but the newer ones seem to go for more. I'll never understand it. Also it seems like every time I have one worth money my dad either wrote on it when he was a kid or I damaged it growing up.

How do the manufacturers get away with not providing checklists themselves? How do they get away with not providing odds of all cards included? Why are third party sites required to provide these things? Makes the manufacturers look terrible as far as I can tell. Why do collectors allow this?

As someone who grew up collecting 1988-1994 "junk era", thank you for this video! I felt so lost looking at cards.
I was surprised to hear minor league baseball prospects command higher prices, because I noticed panini has college football/basketball which are lower priced than the rookie cards. I would have expected the college cards to be similar in terms of "prospective talent". Maybe it is my bias because I prefer college athletics over professional.
