It was a pleasure working with Geoff and his producer, Charles. We are happy to share a glimpse of Joel's lifework with his new followers and sports fans around the globe.
Seen him a few times at the Robert Morris show in Pittsburgh a few times. It always seemed he'd show up right after I sold the items I brought to that show. Like the Cleveland Falcons and 1st year Baron items the 1920 W.S Unassisted Triple play Ticket stub from Cleveland and the Mint 56 WS Perfect game Program and a Full Mint ticket. Loved talking with him. I didn't know all of this until later on he was like everyone else looking for unique items like myself he's a down to earth guy with a Amazing Collection. I can't wait to see some of this in Person...
Agreed. Let's look at this much deeper than whats on the surface, though; What makes an incredible collection an incredible collection? One word: value. Lets be honest with ourselves for one minute: if these items were only a few-dollars per item, do you honestly think anyone here would care?
I was thinking the same, there is a point were you just run outta the ahhs and ewws and just be quite and take it in! I have seen some great memorabilia collections but nothing close to this. Wouldn’t it be great if MLB,NFL,NBA would come together and help with a museum
I remember I purchased Joel Platt book 26 years ago and I was absolutely blown away with his collection!!! I would laugh when I saw people showing there collection on TH-cam and I would say to myself watch when then see Joel Platt collection. So here we are in 2024 looking at the greatest collection on the PLANET!!!!!!
Just finding your channel now. This video is absolutely amazing. I didn’t even know a collection like this existed. His father was a very smart man getting to be friends with all of the equipment managers and I’m sure slipped them a few dollars!
Honestly, HOF would struggle to identify alot of stuff without it being spelled out for them. The folks running that place aren't very educated. I've shown them a number of original photos they couldn't even begin to describe to me, and that's IF I was lucky to even get a response from them. Furthermore, last I checked, HOF takes donations, but why would anyone want to just donate their stuff they've spent their money and lifetime acquiring? Would you just want to hand over expensive items you spent your time and money on, just because the public might be interested? I know I wouldn't. Maybe offer it to them on a loan to display it. That's the only option I'd be willing to do. Those items like the game-used jerseys and such that are 1/1 items? No way in hell those would be donated. You have to put yourself in these peoples shoes sometimes and understand why they probably haven't opted for those types of options.
@@vintagecollector5340 I don't think they should give it away. It's just on display, they would still own all the stuff. My comment was also before hearing him talk about the museum they were planning to create. It still deserves to be on display rather than sit in trunks.
@@jcleveland9056 I agree, but I also own alot of stuff I wouldn't want displayed. Alot of what I own has likely never been seen before by the public, but I really have no desire to display it. At some point in the distant future, it might end up at a big auction house, but that's as close to thr public any of my personal collection will get. Alot of risk is ran with public display.
@@jcleveland9056 I own many rare and original photos. Some is going to require some deeper research, like the photo believed to be Ernie Banks 1953 color barrier break with the Cubs. I also own rare and original rookie photos of F. Robinson, W. Mays, H. Aaron, M. Schmidt, etc. Most of the stuff still needs authenticated, but it's all very rare stuff.
Great video, excited to see the future of the Sports Immortals project. Thank you for letting us inside your unexplainably beautiful collection Joel and Jim!
I have seen this collection first hand and it is amazing , awesome in fact words cannot describe the work that Joel and Jim have done so that others can enjoy these treasures forever.
This was one of the most amazing, influential, goosebump ridden videos that I have ever seen. I am sitting here in absolute awe! I wish that you had the ability to turn this into a series that I could binge watch on Netflix. Thank you so much for capturing this content!
Even more than the items themselves, this collection is invaluable for the stories it tells, and the context it gives, to our collective history in sport. I really appreciate the ability to share in that.
Sports immortals is beyond a collection or even museum...its an archive. I remember seeing a documentary years ago about them and it had since been taken down. Awesome to see this.
I thought the Halper collection was the bar for memorabilia but this is insane. I would have to live there for months to get full appreciation for this collection.
More Geoff more.............i think i can speak on behalf of everyone that we want to see more. 10 x 1 hour long episodes of you and the guys going through as much of the collection as possible and then when you haven't quite seen it all, we would like more vidoes of the collection please. Absolute love this titantic collection of sports history. Truly a joy to behold a museum within itself.
It's crazy how some of these cards are inside a sleeve, encapsulated inside a graded slab, which is inside another wrapper, stored inside a locked wooden chest. And when you touch the outside layer of all of this, you must do so with rubber gloves. haha
Thank you for presenting such incredible content with this video. I would have otherwise never had an opportunity to see these items. What a mind boggling collection.
What a freaking collection. That is like a fantasy that actually exists. That's nuts. There are times where I wish I was born in America instead of Australia, due to my love of American sports and this is one of those moments where I wish I was there, just to view these.
I have visited this place a few times in the 2000s. I was blown away then. I could not believe what Joe collected over the years. He collected almost every sport. This is the holy grail of sports memorabilia. Thanks for sharing this.
Wow..... That was just an awesome sight to see: the memorabilia , the rare collection and the stories behind the accumulation of Joel's Platt's Sports Collection. I mean , not many , have Muhammed Ali's Mouthpiece or the death ball that supposedly beaned then killed Baseball player Ray Chapman (The only Major leaguer who died by a baseball injury...RIP Ray). Thanks to Geoff Wilson for this one of kind Sports Chronicle. Gave a BIG Like too
This is the most impressive collection of cards and sports memorabilia I’ve ever seen. Unbelievable! And the fact that this isn’t even half of the collection makes it even crazier! 10’s of millions of dollars worth of everything you can think of when it comes to sports history. Maybe even 100 million plus for his entire collection would be my guess.
Would love to see these trunks turned into a museum to showcase the cards. 52’ Mantle 86’ Jordan Jackie Robinson Wow! 1909 Fred Chance Incredible collection that would be displayed across our country
Man the more you watch this It should be in a museum the USA should have a way to purchase/compensate anything the family would be willing to part with or at least lend to display and have a immortal American sports museum
It was a pleasure working with Geoff and his producer, Charles. We are happy to share a glimpse of Joel's lifework with his new followers and sports fans around the globe.
It was a pleasure to see your collection it took me back seeing some of those incredible pieces
What happened with the items you monetized through the Collectable app?
That wasn't no collection that was a museum sheesh gotta give Joel the title 🐐
its sad thats it is locked away for no one to see its waaay too much

I won’t lie, this is probably the best content on this channel, when Geoff goes and interviews the people behind these incredible collections.
Couldn’t agree more
Yes, I agree!

I don't even have the words to say how amazing this collection is. Thanks to everyone involved for giving us a glimpse into it!

It's a shame all those are in trunks and not in a museum for all to see......unbelievable collection
in a way true, but they are stored like that for a reason. it is against fading.
He’s trying to open a Hall/museum. He said that in the interview.

Best episode you've ever done (by far). No adjectives are good enough to describe this. This collection even puts Fogel's to shame. Pure insanity!
WOW! The items are spectacular and the stories behind them are even more special! Absolutely incredible!!!
That Ray Chapman ball is insane to see.
Wow, what an amazing video of all these wonderful athletes and their memories. Awesome job Jeff!
These type of collections deserve to be on display at one of the Hall of Fames! Nobody gets to enjoy this while it sits in a basement.

Greatest collection ever. No disrespect to Barry H. Amazing history, what a thrill to see this. Thanks for the video
These type of videos always remind you that your measly little sports card collection is nothing in the broad scheme. At least I feel that way lol
OMG!!! Unbelievable collection sir!!! Enough said!!!
This collection is absolutely incredible.
Does he have any Will Grier in that collection yet?
😂, of course wtf you mean

Half way through the video I had wished I did a “wow” count from Geoff. The over/under is 100😂
He said wow more than he did Market Movers in this video 🤣
Wow is appropriate but some more researched questions would of been nice. He left a lot on the table so to speak.
Very amazing collection!
Alot of youtubers create very good content , but non of them can come close to this😮 these type of collections are pricless!
What a life this guy must of lived collecting all this 😮
