I appreciate you taking the time to do the review. I have been seriously considering purchasing a .223 rifle and this rifle in particular for some time. I live in New Jersey(USA) and the fact it is a pump action means does will not fall under the definition and associated restrictions here on "assault weapons". (All such "assault weapon" restrictions are predicated on a weapon first being semi-automatic, which this is not.) Thus the adjustable stock, muzzle break, folding stock, etc are all legal and will most likely continue to be even after next year's NJ elections.
bought one those days ... under new Canadian law it's priceless now and how fine piece of engineering work on it ... thank you ... priceless. work with AR magazines
mmatt hey live in alberta and I have a mossberg mvp it's .5 Inc at 100 but the bolt doesn't strip rounds reliably from mag was considering trading up to this for coyotes
Ya, I've heard that the MVP has a hard time with feeding reliably from the mags. Too bad 'cause' I love the concept of it. I've had some really good results with the PAR as long as I feed it the ammo it wants. Groups sizes have been consistently under an inch. Other guys have reported great groups with almost any type of ammo so I think you'd be ok trading the MVP for a PAR. Plus it looks cooler. ;-)
Mine says multi caliber on the left side of the magazine. the box says 223 . I emailed Troy industries web site and they said it will handle 556. what have you heard ? does it indeed handle 556? Mine has a A2 bird cage standard AR fair. My pin doesn't rotate .Love this gun
I thought in Canada the muzzle device can’t count as the overall length, same with an adjustable stock that’s not pinned if it makes the rifle go under 26. Someone know more?
I think the brake can't count towards the barrel length, for determining NR versus R in a semi-auto rifle. I think they measure from the back end of the chamber to the crown, effectively barrel length is, the length of the rifled portion of the barrel including the chamber but excluding any attachment.
Do you know which aftermarket Triggers will work in the PAR ?? (Needs a close to milspec hammer to hit the slide release ) My 308 Par wont work with Guisselle Triggers.
Great video! I recently purchased a Troy Sporting Rifle and after watching your video, I need to ask where you found the handle/rail covers for your pump? The one that (now) comes stock is very bulky, uncomfortable and looks awful. Any help would be appreciated!
it looks like a PAR MK1,MK2 is without "fluted chamber" and also fixed some other issues with extracting. The newest one,the MK3 is with the bulky plastic pump-action grip, where you can`t remove the paddels to get the rail-grips
Nice work! I just wish we could get these in Australia. We too have a "no no you can't have that" type government as well. the best we can do, or close features, is the Remington 7615P in 223. But I would say this Troy PAR is far better, more practical to clean and ergonomic in operation. You lucky, lucky people.
As I understand it, mag capacity depends on what firearm the magazine was designed for. If it was designed for an AR-15 rifle, in Canada, 5 rounds max. If it's not an actual AR-15 mag, the capacity is still determined by the capacity of the firearm it was designed for, as in the LAR15 pistol mags. Since they're designed for a pistol, they can hold 10 rounds, and you can use them in a rifle because they just happen to fit, like the Troy PAR. I guess in theory, you could use a drum mag, as long as the rifle/pistol it was designed for was non-restricted with unlimited capacity. Are drum mags universal fit? I don't know, but I'd probably find drum mags awkward and heavy.
I bought a Remington 7615 but I am wondering is I should not have got one of these. I wonder if it is possible to get a slightly different one that fits on a standard AR lower.
There used to be a company that made a pump action upper for ARs... not sure if they're still in business though. I hear the 7615s are great rifles too though. I'd love to get my hands on one for a video someday.
@@mmatt I do like my Remington 7615 but it does not have the cool factor of the troy arms PAR. a pump action AR upper would be perfect. the versatility of the AR is amazing. I have seen .50 uppers and even crossbow uppers.
@@ICanSeeYou247 I have two chiappa .22 uppers on AR lowers. up to last week we were going to be able to own 22 AR rifles. its the AR uppers that were banned 6 months ago.
I have the same accuracy inconsistencies with my PAR. What’s strange is that the first three shots are tight and then subsequent shots are everywhere. @mmat or anyone else, what ammo seems to work best? I’m using standard 55 grain 223 and it’s not great.
Thanks for the reply bud. I’m going to try a bunch different bullet weights and also 556 v 223 and see how it goes. I love the rifle but just wish it was more consistent.
@@SB-pv9gd If I'm not mistaken, I believe the PAR has a 1:7 twist barrel which is much more suited for heavy bullets like 69-77 grains. 1:7 is too fast of a twist rate to he consistent with lighter bullets. 1:9 is best for 55's.
Yes. It turns out that this rifle is very picky with ammo. Once I found the right load for it, it dropped down to MOA group with no trouble at all. I use 27g of Varget behind a 55g V-Max projectile. I went with 2.260" OAL in a Winchester case with a CCI No. 400 small rifle primer and I use the Lee factory crimp die.
Not quite actually. :-( It's the magazines that are restricted, not the rifle. It uses AR mags which are limited to 5 rounds if they are rifle mags and 10 rounds if they are pistol mags. (yes, there is a pistol version of the AR) The fact that it's pump action doesn't factor in at all.
Owned it for almost a year and you have FAILED miserably to strap it to your UL and hop on up here to my area for me to give it the acid test? tsk tsk tsk mmatt must be punished now for sure! >:P

My pleasure. I have heard the NJ has some pretty ridiculous gun laws. (and that's saying something coming from a Canadian!) lol

one thing thats good with norwegian gun laws is that supressors are not regulated in any way
Damn, sucks living in Canada. No silencers, only 5 rnd mags etc. Im happy i live in Sweden where i can have anything.
Lucky! I'll have to come visit! :-)
But you can only have 4/8 weapons still right? And no hunting with AR type rifles?
I don't know you have the world economic forum

Looks like they put a new grip so the three rails are no longer there. If true then you may not be able to add a vertical grip.

I think the term "lucky" is rather relative here... I doubt many Americans would consider us that... (well except for those from New Jersey...) LOL
Have a look at wedgetail industry’s they make the same thing in Australia for cat a and b licences
Wait, if its NR and Pump, then wouldnt we be able to have a 30 round magazine?

It does handle all AR magazines ......30 down to 5
Are you pulling back on the pump prior to pulling the trigger when fast firing? For some reason my par in 308 won't fire if I do that.
What are the lengths of the picatinny rails that were covered by the Battle Rail Covers?
5 and 3/8" long

Very thin barrel could explain 2-3 good shots and then flyers. It simply gets to hot and start spreading.
Are the slide lock levers still flimsy crap?
As long you can hit a body size target, I'm fine with it

Is the folding stock comfortable? I was thinking of getting the fixed stock Troy PAR and swapping it out for a Magpul stock.
