Lots of debate over which caliber is best. Let's find out!!! / demolitionranch / demolition_ranch "Club Diver" by Kevin MacLeod from incompetech.com. Outro music by MDK, • ♪ MDK - Dream Eater (N...
Owning guns does not ensure safety... If someone breaks into a home, the owner still needs to wake up, get the gun AND get a shot off before the intruder takes a single shot on target. Want to keep your family safe? you'd be better off securing your property than arming yourself. If you want a bit of fun hitting some targets, then sure! own many guns :P
+Nicky Wilkinson Hah. i know what you mean. i'd like to see them get past the 500 landmines i put under my lawn after reading this comment. (i did not actually do that, shouldnt have to say this but this is the internet.)
*Time for a Quiz:* You are patrolling your ranch and ensuring everything is safe when all of a sudden you spot a vicious watermelon that could endanger your life (Seeds are chocking hazards and stuff). You reach into your pocket to see what you can defend yourself with, only to find a handful of handgun rounds (.22 LR, 9mm, .44 magnum, ect..). You remember your guns are in your truck so you back off slowly and search your truck only to find a shotgun and a roll of duct tape (Your wife must have borrowed your handgun to unblock the sink or something). With the previously mentioned items, would you be able to defend yourself? *[in short, can you fire handgun rounds from a shotgun using duct tape to make them fit? If it is possible, would it be accurate enough to hit a selected target?]*
there are certain casings for handgun calibres to be shot out of a shotgun we here in germany use this for the ,,fangschuss" (if the animal is not dead just wounded to shoot it in the head and end its pain) but it is not quite accurate because u have just the very short ,,barrell" of the shotgun shell because the barrel is much bugger than handgun calibers.
+Nicky Wilkinson Matt did a kind of similar video. He shot a rifle round out of a glock barrel (unfortunately I can't find the video). It fit diameter-wise but rifle cartridges are thinner at the part where they hold the projectile. That part expanded when fired, which took a lot of energy In addition to that there is no gas seal which can properly propel the projectile. The projectile comes out with a tiny fraction of the energy it would normally have.
+Nicky Wilkinson Take the shotgun barrel off and use tape to fit the rounds and strike the primer with a rock because most likely inside a shotgun the firing pin wouldn't line up the the pistol primer or it would break the primer of the pistol cartridge and it would backfire so you would be shit out of luck most likely
556/233 is better option for shtf, or self defense. 308 is best for long distance hunts over 300 yrds or sniper situations. 16 " barrels for 556 is great for home defense where 308 is better for long shots
Didn't someone get whacked from that FPS Rushki team? This guy is a family man and has a career, unlike those other dickheads. The world loves assholes and Dem Ranch isn't one. If you putos don't like his vids, don't fucking watch them.
One of my favorite things about this channel is that I can watch this around my kids because I know there's not gonna be some real bad language in it, thanks man.
I hope you tell your kids that 'Matt Demo' is a total professional and not to repeat any stunts or experiments performed on any Demolition Ranch TH-cam Video.
+Alex TheGreatest Yup, they're both nice. 5.56mm with soft-point bullets for home defense (low recoil, easy to lay down lots of lead on target, minimal over-penetration), while 7.62 for anti-vehicle usage, long range reach out and touch someone capability, higher lethality, and all-around excellent hunting caliber (multi-purpose). It's a overkill for home defense however (massive over-penetration) and the hefty recoil makes it a bit intimidating and hard to shoot rapidly for light-statured people. As such both calibers serve distinct purposes and I agree, they are both wonderful calibers. My favorite however is in the middle of those two with 7.62X39mm. lol
Yup... it's a nice alternative for someone who wants a heavy hitting 30 caliber round but without quite as much recoil. It's a great hunting caliber as well. It's downsides however is that it still has more recoil than 5.56mm and it still is not ideal for home defense due to over-penetration issues even with soft-tipped bullets (due to the mass of the bullet vs. the lower mass off the 5.56mm soft tips). So like all things, its important to select the right tools for the job.
Don't use 223 just pay the small difference for the 5.56 cartridge, always use the best ammunition for your rifle or if your doing you own. Well if you picked up a rifle that only uses 223 well that's the end of this story. There is a difference between 223 v 5.56. But that's me, I'm very picky what goes down my barrels. If you go Cheap, well that's the results that simple. Happy hunting. Hoorah.
You should do a "what is bulletproof: beach addition" you could try life jackets, boogie boards and other things you find at the beach vs various calibres
I'd love a rifle for self defense but I'm gonna have to settle for a slingshot because my security is worth less than the robbers and murderers. #justeuropeanstuff
Peyton Fuimaono Not sure who you're talking to, but I know alot of people who'd love a weapon for self defence. I live in Sweden and it's not safe here anymore, not like it used to be. A lot of people a concerned about their safety but our government don't give two shits about it.
The .308 was designed to replace the 30-06 in a semi-auto rifle, and produces the exact same performance. In the bolt action, the '06 has an edge. Both are great cartridges.
i watch your videos a lot and just figured id drop some knowledge on why the U.S military has the 5.56 as their main round. The 7.62 used to be the prefered round because of its stopping power straight in straight out big hole but with 5.56 the round begins to tumble in the air so for example you shoot center mass like youre taught in the military the 5.56 will hit and tumble through the body causing a larger channel that gets all torn up and could exit anywhere (shot to the chest could come out lowere back) this is a nightmare for medics and more than likely a person hit with the round in a firefight is going to die, so not as much firepower but more damge to the human body
Matt the thing I appreciate the most about yo content is that you have stayed humble and is still make your videos the same . And you put in that work for yo Intros!
Which is better? It's kind've a subjective question. Both calibers have their intended purposes, and each is meant to do those purposes well. 5.56x45mm (.223) is really good for home defense, taking out smaller game and popping off targets with ease at under ~200 yards. Any farther than that without a good RDS or magnified optic is gonna be difficult. And that far out, because of their blazing speed and light weight, the bullets get very inaccurate. With a good ACOG or magnified scope, a .308 rifle is great for sniping at 300-500+ yards, up to a certain point. But in close range, unless you're a big dude- carrying a rifle that big is going to be difficult. Sum up of .308: .308 is great for easy sniping and taking out larger bodies. All in all, if you want to be able to pop off 30-60 rounds in close-medium range with both eyes open using an RDS, get a .223 AR. They're fantastic anti-personnel weapons. If you want more power and are willing to pick up a heavier, bigger gun (depending on manufacturer and barrel length), get a .308 AR. Both are great rounds, just keep in mind that a .223 is smaller and faster, while the .308 is bigger and more powerful.
lets not forget price, lets be real .223 is pretty pricey on a range day specially when you're taking out people who don't have their own guns or bring their own ammo, I couldn't imagine buying 300 rounds of .308 for 2-3 hours of shooting
CrimsonYeti And 6.5 Grendel actually behaves better at long range than .308, while using standard AR-15 components with only a new bolt, barrel, and magazine.
The paper test failed because it was dry. There was no shock wave trough the media. Back when phone books were a thing one would use wet ones to study ballistics.

I mean theyre cut faster, the Tests are less "lovely " discussed, no more gopro closeups somehow "Boring" and so on. You know what i mean? Dont know how to describe...
I totally loved your AR-15 & AR -10 presentation.WONDERFUL!!! More power to future vids. Looking forward to see a Multi caliber on sight conversions on either ARs 10 or 15.
Bro I love your vids. Plus you seem like good people. I’m self taught and could use someone with experience to share knowledge with. I’m new to Dallas so making new friends is going to be a slow ass process as I don’t trust nobody. Thanks for blessing us with your content
The funny thing about .223/5.56 is that the context of the round is often misconstrued. It is most effective as a maiming round, to wit, it is more effective at wounding an enemy combatant than killing them outright. I myself thought this unusual, but in combat, on the grand scale, it is more effective to tie up resources in one's enemy trying to save a wounded soldier rather than killing mass quantity and moving on. Very Sun Tzu in a way.
Yeah, the intro was obnoxious, and I literally love you. Why not say your reasons for not wanting to sell a gun? If one of my friends reacted like that when I ask to buy a gun of theirs (legally), I'd be like "Okay....so you don't trust me, and you think I'm a criminal."
@Harry Peterson I sort of understand that, I mean, I wouldn't want one of my guns to go to someone I was worried could do something negative. It's moreso, I know he was making a joke but criiiiinged, and put myself in those shoes. I can imagine getting my balls up, "Hey, uh, kind of new to guns, I don't know about these shops, you seem to know more...can you help me out?" "My name is NO. My number is NO." Just a surefire way I'll be uncomfortable with you forever.
@Harry Peterson Also, like, as a point. If I was a big AR or AK guy, like some of these guys have fifteen different ARs, I can see wanting to set a pal or brother in law, I don't know, up with a decent starter for a good price, same if you're a revolver guy and for whatever reason collected three .38s over the years or something.
The things you learn...I never knew having a muzzle break on a short barrel, makes the length legal. I'll definitely check that out. I live in N.Y so we got some real tools in charge up here. Thank You for insight.
Your test with blocks was flawed had the domino effect. Had the blocks been braced top and bottom even slightly would have told more truth. Inside of 150 yards a .308 will out perform a .223 9 out of 10. Nice video tho. Increase the barrel length 2 -3 inches and it's no contest.
Thanks, this video has helped me see the difference, not just the on paper bullshit theories that everyone rehashes without backing up their talk ( like the 9mm vs 40 vs 45 debates) Got my choice made after watching the difference here, thanx brother!!!!
You can own both in the UK mainland .... semi auto in .22lr - they just have to be straight pull if over .22lr (on the mainland, in channel islands/NI etc. semi centrefire is still legal. Loads of AR's in all calibres for sale in most gunshops and sales sites like guntrader/gunmart. £400-600 for .22lr / £1k plus for .223/.308
Wanna see that bodyguard who catches a 223 head shot and is still standing. For the most reasons I can imagine, I would take the 223 above the 308, including SFD and SHTF.
yomama isaniceperson soft armor yes hard armor no HOWEVER there are exceptions to everything and one thing I have seen and done is the Carl Gustaf ss109 will go through a level three steel plate part of that is the fact it’s lead free instead of lead they backed the steel penetrator with tungsten it’s quite a nasty little bitch but most hard armor used is level 4 and a 556 isn’t punching through a level 4 plate hell level 4 stops 7.62x63 armor piercing so a 556 yeah that’s not going to happen
you do know 5.56 Nato and .223 rem and 7.62 nato and .308 win BOTH ARE NOT the same rounds... not to worry unless you reload as they will shoot just fine but reloading 7.62 nato to .308 win loading data is a over pressure just waiting to happen... 5.56 nato and .223 is a same kinda deal.... they are NOT the same rounds.
ooookay... This is merely a "back yard" demonstration of muzzle energy featuring a .308 caliber bullet compared to a 22 caliber bullet on hard targets.
Hey Matt, my names Matt and I love your videos. I have a suggestion for you. What if you did comparisons of cartridges that are similar such as 308 and 30-06? I think it would be cool to see them go head to head because you can have different powder loads in them. Have a great day man, God bless.
In my country there is strict regulations that you can't hunt animals with underpowered cartridges. .223 remington used in AR15 is considered a bird rifle, biggest game you can shoot with it is lynx. However, .308 is just barely powerful enough for even the biggest game, including moose and bears. So .308 is allowed for any game, but still with relatively soft shooting recoil. Suitable for everything. Can't go wrong with it.
+SpaceNavy90 Because he loves his rifles more than money. He would have to scam his friend to get enough money to make him want to part with his rifle.

That paper isn't going to process through your printer very well
Is that an Aggie Ring??? I am a current student Class of 2018. Way to represent A&M brother!
kids in Africa could have eaten that paper
Kids in Africa died digging that paper out of a muddy ditch so middle class white women can make typos.
Five years later and still just as great as the day it came out 🤐🤐🔥💯
308 ammo being nearly twice as expensive to 223.
Idk about where your at but you can't find 223 or 6.5 creedmoor in the entire state. I bought a 7.62 just to have ammo availability
308 does some amazing things to the human body that 556 can't...thats what matters most
Lee Holmes 7.62 goes straight through a body, 5.56 tumbles through a body.
Smh
7.62 also has 4 times the energy.
At 500 yds, thhe 7.62 X 51 has the energy of a .44 magum at its muzzel point!

I love you never stop making videos
Your intros are getting amazing!

+DarkSpirit531 his reply: "which one?"
You are a serious contender for funniest intro ever!
My response to that intro:
No.
Let's face it, everyone knew it was coming
1:53 was the start to twinkle twinkle little star 😂
crazy to see just how far he has come since this
Hillary Clinton crapped her pants at this vid
I totally loved your AR-15 & AR -10 presentation.WONDERFUL!!! More power to future vids. Looking forward to see a Multi caliber on sight conversions on either ARs 10 or 15.

22 lr vs 50 bmg. That's a pretty good competition
Pretty much the same exact same round, but the .22lr is going a little faster
Pretty much the same exact same round, but the .22lr is going a little faster
On the 308 what's the best buffered to Spring kit for that Rifle ???????
IMO better than FPS Russia.
+Felipe Ferreira yeah and Matt uploads more than 5 times a year
Way better.
100%
+Felipe Ferreira Honestly I stopped watching FPSRussia.
It's kinda entry level stuff honestly.
+Felipe Ferreira FPSRussia is way more entertaining and is less about the actual "science" behind the guns.
I'm sorry demo but that intro made me cringe :p. I don't like that song...
He still has the best intros ever though.
Thank you for doing a video that isn't your forced opinion. You did great test and left it at that. Thank you. I will subscribe to your channel.
Hip fire a 120mm cannon!!!
+Andrew Lee What could go wrong XD
+Andrew Lee If he didn't Hip-Fire that, his shoulder would cease to exist.
Nah get a TANKGEWEHR
At first my thought watching this video was “whoa is that Chris Pratt ???”
Very Sun Tzu in a way.
a head shot will take down any body placed properly... even with a .22LR
Brad Zink and .17 HMR.
Except there are several reports of bullets 9mm mostly glancing off people skull because it really is hard stuff
Damn right! !
@@EricSmith-lj7ln Benny learned that the hard way

Ring-a-ding-ding, baby.
If I was a big AR or AK guy, like some of these guys have fifteen different ARs, I can see wanting to set a pal or brother in law, I don't know, up with a decent starter for a good price, same if you're a revolver guy and for whatever reason collected three .38s over the years or something.
either one would mess up your life permanently lol
terez tiago or end it
Yeah, but as demonstrated in this video .308 will mess up you and the person behind you!

Can you try out what a bullet proof glass can stop???
+Poo Face your jokes
The things you learn...I never knew having a muzzle break on a short barrel, makes the length legal. I'll definitely check that out. I live in N.Y so we got some real tools in charge up here. Thank You for insight.
Maybe do German vs American Gun manufactures
+Denis Höfer Bad idea, a war would break out ..
You make me happy too
Can we revisit this with the new techniques we have come up with in the evolution of the channel?
I haven't been watching your vids in any order, liking them all as I watch. But, so far, this one's my favorite. I just like the .308, nice demo!
Fantastic video, wish we had gun like that for sale in England, very interesting too, hilarious 👍
@?? Green tip 5.56 rips through that shit
yomama isaniceperson soft armor yes hard armor no HOWEVER there are exceptions to everything and one thing I have seen and done is the Carl Gustaf ss109 will go through a level three steel plate part of that is the fact it’s lead free instead of lead they backed the steel penetrator with tungsten it’s quite a nasty little bitch but most hard armor used is level 4 and a 556 isn’t punching through a level 4 plate hell level 4 stops 7.62x63 armor piercing so a 556 yeah that’s not going to happen
30 seconds in and I already like this channel.
you do know 5.56 Nato and .223 rem and 7.62 nato and .308 win BOTH ARE NOT the same rounds... not to worry unless you reload as they will shoot just fine but reloading 7.62 nato to .308 win loading data is a over pressure just waiting to happen... 5.56 nato and .223 is a same kinda deal.... they are NOT the same rounds.
ooookay...
This is merely a "back yard" demonstration of muzzle energy featuring a .308 caliber bullet compared to a 22 caliber bullet on hard targets.
Not the same but very similar
go ahead and shoot a 5.56 out of a .223 chambered rifle. wont be long before you need a new chamber/barrel. hence why the .223 wylde exists.
You can shoot 7.62 NATO in a gun chambered in 308. Or maybe it's the other way around..
A Floofer 7.62 is ok in .308 but .308 isn't ok in a 7.62 chamber. The pressure is higher in a .308 round. It's the opposite of 5.56 vs .223
Can you do a video with a .17 HMR in it. I kinda wanna see what kinda impact they have.
Yes. I want to get a .17 HMR, and would love to see Dr. Matt do something on this.
Aww, you make us happy too Matt.
Hey Matt, my names Matt and I love your videos. I have a suggestion for you. What if you did comparisons of cartridges that are similar such as 308 and 30-06? I think it would be cool to see them go head to head because you can have different powder loads in them. Have a great day man, God bless.
"This is the one i take on trips."
Me: NANI!!??
I think he means hunting trips but idk people take guns on vacation in more rural areas
Great video , awesome . Just purchased 308 great stopping power .
"It's aight, everybody-Poot took 'em out!"
.308 by the farthest!! I love the .308 Remington 700 Winc. mod!
Thanks for this review
"I just got hit by a lot of concrete" 😁
I actually went out to day with my uncle and shot targets with his .223
In my country there is strict regulations that you can't hunt animals with underpowered cartridges. .223 remington used in AR15 is considered a bird rifle, biggest game you can shoot with it is lynx. However, .308 is just barely powerful enough for even the biggest game, including moose and bears. So .308 is allowed for any game, but still with relatively soft shooting recoil. Suitable for everything. Can't go wrong with it.
So why wouldn't you sell the dude a rifle again?
+SpaceNavy90 Because he loves his rifles more than money. He would have to scam his friend to get enough money to make him want to part with his rifle.
You have to a license to sell guns
B Price Says the person who knows jack shit about guns
+SpaceNavy90 yeah what is your problem little butthurt 5 year old.
+Syhthetic really? where do you live? kind of odd that someone couldnt sell a shotgun or something on craigslist. granted, you arent supposed to, but many people still do, im sure it also depends on what you want to sell as well.
