- We tested FIVE different suspension setups without knowing which setup we were driving, all on the same exact truck, in the same terrain. We wanted to know what setup was the best with NO biases. We were very surprised by the results!

As an owner of king shocks on my 15 tundra for 5 years with no sway bar, I’m proud of them and they are worth money. I might invest in those bilsteins as a second set for when my kings need rebuilding. Thank you for doing this.
I would love to see another entry in the series with the OME BP-51s. Not sure how that could be done blind but it's also a strong suspension contender.
I was wishing they included these as well.

Are you aware that Fox 2.5 and King 2.5 use different piston sizes? Piston size is why they say the BP-51 isn't a true 2.5
There are 2 factors. 1. Surface area for heat to dissipate. This is essentially the external dimensions of the shock. Which BP-51 qualifies as 2.5.
2. Valve area to provide damping. Once you move past the primitive King and Fox 2.5 coilovers designs like the rest of the world has, you realise that there is more damping available than just on the main piston. In the case of the BP-51 this is through the internal bypass valves and also through the compression adjuster mechanism valves.
So you take the 51mm piston (which is much larger than a Fox 2.0 piston) valve area, and add the bypass valves area and add the adjuster mechanism valves area.
BPs suck from what I’ve read. Not worth comparing from what I’ve been reading…
Great video series, guys! So much useful info, especially to those are in the market for shocks. Keep them coming! Maybe do a series comparing 2” shocks/entry level?

this series was excellent, thank you for putting it together. I would love to see another episode where you wrap it all together. I have bought from Overland Outfitters in the past and love their service. I'm actually considering changing my shocks and would appreciate seeing final conclusions or recommendations. Either way great series.

I actually learned the time these videos were released by the end of the series. Really cool series and a service to all the Tacoma owners out there. Reasonable to remember that a few things (custom valving, rear crossbar and hangers) probably make a huge difference. Adding more variables would also make a near impossible test setup. Thanks for this series it was really cool.
Yea hangers make a HUGE difference
I mean,, can't you adjust the stiffness of the suspension on most of these? Curious as to have they all would preform if they were really 'dialed in' for the best comparison.
@@Poxyquotl looks like they got the non adjustable 2.5 shocks to make it a better comparison of all of them straight from the manufacturer
@@Poxyquotl They mentioned in the first video that 99% of shock buyers will never tune them, so they wanted to compare out of the box performance.

I actually have the same kings 2.5 set up and oh my gosh I love them coming from a Leveling kit its night n day!! difference pricy but very worth it to me 🙂

It would be awesome to see you guys test the Ironman 4x4 foam cell pro shocks on the 3rd gen Tacoma. Really curious to see how you guys would compare them to these first 5 brands you’ve tested
Great series, like others have said it would be cool to compare the entry level shocks as well: 5100s, 6112, fox 2.0 etc and perhaps throw in a 2.5” shock to demonstrate how much of an upgrade from an entry level shock it is. Also not entry level at all, but curious how the OME BP51s would have compared in this.

It would be cool to see the shocks torn apart now and also see a comparison of the quality of materials. Maybe a future season 2 of shock value? Locked offroad, radflo, toytec, and any others I can't think of.

Hi all! Nice initiative on the blind testing. Do to my area of off road we do no have speed off-roading as is more of a tropical Island in the Caribbean and is more of mud and sticky clay. Like your thought on the equipment tested if any at all would work for my type of off roading. Thank you in advance. 👍🏻
Great series. I would also like to see how Radflow, ADS and Bilstein 6112’s compare as well. Been hearing really good things about the ADS suspension lately.

Thanks for producing such an informative video. To complete this video, it will be nice to see a review of the Old Man Emu shocks. I am actually leaning toward these for truck I am planning to build and ship to Africa. Why Old Man Emu? The reliability is second to none. Second, they are built for the outback which has a similar climate to Africa. Keep Up The Good Work!

You should do a video of a before and after a rebuild to show what a custom tuned shock should look over the high speed whoops. You can use my v8 4runner😂 I have kings 2.5 ext all around, TC upper and lower control arms and duro bumpstops

So the front needs a good replacement UCA like SPC Adjustable for several reasons, and the rear needs a new leaf pack preferably with hammer hangers…also removing sway bar at own risk obviously helps articulation ✌🏽
I am a little disappointed in the review of the bolstein 8112, and fox 2.5’s those were my top two contenders.. lol
They said the 8112 were one of the best ones
They were the best at high speed off-road, no shock will be perfect at everything. Don’t forget you can also revalve all of them to ride better
I’ve got the 4 door bronco badlands with the Sasquatch package and was wondering; do you think there would be a dramatic difference upgrading from the bilstein shocks that come with the Sasquatch package?
Hahahaha let’s goooooo finally. Yes blue is better!!! If you turn the compression up you won’t have that bucking and if you tune them for the truck it feels almost like long travel.

I second that, I had no idea the whole time what shock they were testing… these guys might be awesome for sure but this shock competition is a huge fail for me, the king are clearly junk for leaking on just one test run, and the material is going to rust if you live in the rust belt..
I want to take my 2023 TRD PRO through course, I bet she handles the best!

Solid review of all the brands. Would of liked to see the BP52’s.

I'm curious what pound coil those kings have on them. I'm running 700lb coils on my kings but I also have armor and lots of it.
I asked them they said all of them had 600lb coils

I know you said you couldn’t get icons with remote reservoirs. How would that affect the tests? Also, would adjustable dampening on any of these change the results?
Remote resi would mostly affect how long you can run without overheating the shocks

I'm sad at how much better Kings was off the shelf than Fox but honestly not surprised King is taking more time to add the valving the stock suspension needs (Its very King of them🥁) versus Fox just adding whatever tune they think is best. Would've been nice to see the Fox shocks with the DSC adjusters though versus the ones without like you guys ran. I loved this series so much, thank you guys!🤘

They needed a level playing field, and not all the shocks offer a high and low speed adjuster setup.
From the footage, looks like it needs to be dialed in a little better. Lacking some Low speed compression, and the front looks like it dives too much. Needs some rebound adjustments, maybe more in the front.
DAMN. So if I were to buy unadjusted shocks it should be 4 or 5 (Bilsteins or Fox). A tad disappointed that the rear Fox shafts showed some oil residue after that test. If anything, maybe I should start looking at adjustable shocks. 🤔

@@sleeks9939 they did test 8112s in video 4. 8112 front, 8100 rear. The 8100 in the video is the “smooth body” version. The bypass version isn’t mentioned, but performs even better.
