Was always a LandCruiser guy! when I test drove the patrol I instantly bought it Will never go back to Diesel! The power performance and honestly the smoothness of the Nissan is spectacular and off roads its more capable in my opinion! .
I don’t think off road it is even close but I do agree the Patrol is way better driving and spec wise it may just be a little larger but seems a whole different class. I have the American Lexus LX570 and Infinity QX80 versions so maybe that is a different story. They are both Gas and great engines but the refinement of the Nissan 5.6 is pretty awesome and much more power on the butt dyno than the Toyota 5.7.
Nissan power performance may come close to Landcruiser however when Nissan gets old on the country road when it gets over 100000 miles it is starting to play maracas on your ear.
Conveniently forgot to mention some of the Patrols prime selling features: Full LED head and rear lights, cooled center console storage, acessible both from the front AND the back, adaptive suspension. And if the interior of the Patrol is 90s, then the LCs interior is 80s at best. Also, tests have shown, that under heavy load the 8 cylinder petrol engine in the Patrol actually is more economical than the Diesel in the LC.
Did 280000 in my y62 and it was one of the best 4x4s I've owned but when it came to getting another and it sounds lame but the same old interior broke my relationship with the Nissan ☹
I totally agree. The interior in the patrol is absolutely woeful in 2021. It reminds me of a late 90s maxima. Sorry, we ended up buying a Ford Everest.

More people suvs use day to day. As the reporter says. Nothing will change with the platform for once and a while off-road or even none. Lc looks old. Very slow on the the traffic light. Very noisy too as a diesel. I've sold my toyota very overpriced.
A neighbour has this Patrol. And its V8 sounds reeeeally good. But not sure if I can live with its looks though. Its slowly growing on me the more I see it, but its still not my choice for looks.

Well finally these tester are telling at least half the truth. Your average fuel consumption is a direct reflection of your heavy right foot. After selling my 200 and buying the Patrol I am already averaging 13l/100 in my first two weeks of ownership. Why did the tester say their pick is the GXL 200 which comes with next to nothing as standard equipment but show the features of the Sahara?? And brushing over the Patrols standard features in their base model is overlooked because he doesn’t like the wood grain look. Really when have so many people become vehicle designer’s in this country!! It is what it is and the Patrol has no equal when compared to the media hyped up LC 200. My 200 is gone and so glad I looked at the Nissan as it gave me the reality check so many other one eyed LC owners need.
Your test is biased. Why didn't you wait for Land Cruiser 300 knotting pretty well that the 200 series has been around for a decade and that Nissan has just been launched?

Patrol is Larger and Longer than LC200 and LC300 which give more "Full size" presence, plus the interior space in also spacious than the toyota especially the 3rd row. Imagine if the patrol offer a diesel engine, Land slide victory for nissan, hopefully the next gen Y63 Patrol offer a diesel variant or atleast a V6 with a hybrid like the super size big daddy Toyota Sequoia in the America
Lol how could it even be close? I own both and family SUV the Patrol is a way better choice. If you are a guy and like to off road it and all you care about is climbing and off road goodies (this was about driving and being a good family SUV). I am a big fan of the Land Cruiser even I would take the Patrol every time and anytimeI had to drive it with a kids or on the high way. Don’t get me wrong the LC is great but when compared to the Patrol just different machines entirely! FYI my wife loves the Patrol but would HATE the LC and she moved over from a 2007 Toyota Sienna she liked fine, so take that for what it is worth.

The Toyota should kill the Nissan. I bought a brand new 40th Anniversary and the build quality of that vehicle was extraordinary. By 400000k it was still perfect. But the 200 isn't built like an 80. The technical complexity of that engine and many other components has destroyed reliability. Expensive fuel injection issues dusting issues dpf issues oil filter issues have resulted in a vehicle with murderous running costs. It is such a shame because Toyota is a great company that can make fantastic quality vehicles. There is only one choice and I am thinking of making it.

Land cruiser is way too overpriced these days. If you want a proper V8 your better off getting a RAM 1500, the interior of the RAM will make you feel like a king. If you want a cheaper 7 seater SUV that actually has more interior space and better features for almost half the price get a Hyundai Palisade.

You can just get a canopy for the RAM if you want enclosed space, but if your out in the country which is what these utes are designed for you would choose the open bed rather than it enclosed for your animals or materials.

The patrol is great value... but the interior and infotainment system is a deal killer.

The ram will break in 5 years, almost guaranteed, it is also a ute / truck, so no enclosed boot space. I agree on the palisade bit though.
