Beginning of this year I was sitting in the exact same spot for my coaching. Best experience of my whole year. Roman is just one the most pleasent humans imagineable and a well of knowledge.
Well, finally I made it. With a comment. I started several times and quit again. In fact there is no comment needed of me as you said to me yesterday, Scott. It is already wholesome. All of it. Still I want to tell you how happy this video made me. First of all it is impressive from the editing quality. Really tons to learn here from you. Second, it is amazing from the personal growth that started with this trip. I remember the thoughts we talked about on "what video you want to create" from this trip and I can say you nailed it 100%. Be present is the main message. Be present in your life, in your love, in your job, in your passion, in your moments. This is a hard task with todays world as everything is aimed and programmed to distract us from being present. I see a great message in this video and I feel honoured to played a part of it. A toast to passion, friendship and being present, Scott. Keep on happy painting! Roman
Thank you so much. It's really hard to internalize these compliments. Sometimes it feels like they slide off my back a little as I hunt for the negativity. I think other people are amazing artists, so for someone else to use those same words about myself is honestly indescribable for me. I am grateful for such a nice and patient community. It's really hard to remember you guys when I feel like I'm messing up but y'all are there.
This was so heartfelt, it made me tear up a little. Seeing your passion and struggles with imposter syndrome hit close to home. I'm glad you had an awesome time with Roman!
I wateched this with my family during the Christmas break. I thought it captured exactly what our miniature painting hobby is...the mental struggles, the painting itself, and showcasing the godtier European artists. Hope you got a kick out fo knowing this brought my family together for a few minutes and helped explain what I spend my free time doing.
I'm not gonna lie it felt like some of your recent videos were hitting a lull there, and it did seem like you were painting in your comfort zone. There's nothing wrong with that at all! But it definitely started to seem like you had almost a "corporate" mentality, like you mentioned early in this video, like you were only painting for the TH-cam gods. Like you weren't creating for you anymore; painting or not. This video is such an incredible shift that it sounds like you needed it, like you wanted this, that you did absolutely deserve this experience. This is a video I think we all needed as mini-painters; someone of stature--I mean that celebrity-wise, but you do seem like a really tall guy lol--hitting a bout of impostor syndrome literally across the table from someone like Roman, seeing a spark reignite not just here but through the social media stories as well, seeing a sense of inspiration come back almost as a tsunami. This was an amazing video, and a reinvigorating one at that! Thank you.
Scott, my dude. What a wonderful video. Not just then content, but all the hard work of producing something creative, vulnerable, and honest. So much of this hobby is only-hands and technique, it chases GW around like it they are waiting for senpai to notice. I really appreciate who you are choosing to be on TH-cam. Also, f*ck the algorithm that Shatterpoint video was magic.
The amount of people you have brought into the community has cemented your place in the hall of hobby legends alone. Your an amazing painter, production artist & entertainer. Thank you so much for your all your hard work and openness to your emotion, it has brought me personally many hours of education, entertainment and introspection. The past few years would have been much darker without you for all your fans and friends. Love ya Scott!
You have made it. You are that painter that people like me strive to be. Wrestling with ADHD is hard for me, but every video you make gets me so excited to go out and PAINT MORE MINIS. Hats off to you and your achievements in this artist space.
You've come a long way sense making budget props and a puppet costar. I've learned a lot from you over the years (and many others). I'm glad you got to have this experience and its awesome it sounds like it was more then what you were hoping for.
I’ve been falling down the mini wargaming rabbit hole again recently, and the algorithm recommended this video. My initial impression was positive, kinda weird to fly halfway across the world to stay at a stranger’s house, but then… the screamo outro… and now we’re friends for life 😊
People often say "Don't meet your heroes, they'll only disappoint you.". I've met a few of mine, and they were wonderful. I'm glad you got to have a wonderful experience with a wonderful hero. It's great to see established artists taking an interest in helping others to move forward as well. The sheer volume of amazing miniatures at the event was staggering. Plus, I loved the dog outside... :)
A really nice video about the validation hell we often live in as TH-camrs. It can feel like you live to serve the numbers, not the audience that got us here if we're to continue to grow, because that's the system that's been built for us to work in on TH-cam, it's really surprising how hard it is to *not* get sucked into the dopamine/stress machine that is YT studio. The imposter syndrome can be VERY real but yeah dude you absolutely deserve to be where you are, always love your approach to and mindset around the hobby. Keep doin' the thing dude ❤
No matter how many views this gets, this will be your best video purely based on the meaning behind it. That video from Roman at the end was the cherry on top.
You were my first teacher when I started paintimg 6 years ago. Without you I would not have anyidea how to actualy paint or where to start man. You are my Roman man. Never doubt yourself you are amazin no matter what anyone says!
By the gods, the quality of the minis there was insane! Honestly super happy for you. You do deserve it and I'm thankfull that you shared this memorable moment of your life with us. Keep on keeping on!
Dude, for real? I have learned so much from your painting tutorials....and everything else you share with your audience. It is wonderful that you got this opportunity!
Love seeing yours and Ninjon’s takes on mini painting - more than just slapping paints on plastic - but the society that has built up around the hobby, and how it has a positive effect on mental health. Great work, keep grinding mate, you’ve got this.
I love that you got to experience all of this. My SO has tried to tell me many times to basically be like Roman, ie paint for you and only you and don’t let the “norms” of the hobby be something that guides you. It’s fine to learn techniques from people in the hobby but we should all seek knowledge outside our little hobby bubble
I've been following you for some years now, since I started painting more or less, so it is amazing watching my models appear in one of your videos! Glad you like my work and Thanks for featuring my Red Moon at 13:09 and my DOOM tribute ❤ Love your content!
Roman is a legend! First time I talked to him in 2008 where I interviewed him for a Warhammer (Online) fan'zine. Amazing to see, how you enjoyed your private coaching session. Greetings from Augsburg, Germany! 😁
Hey Scott, just wanted to let you know that this video made me cry. I'm a long time lurker of your videos and support you on several platforms. Doesn't matter if YT, kickstarter, Patreon, twitch, the podcast or you name it - I've got your back. I paint miniatures my self, I'm a video editor for a living and most importantly, I fight with mental illness as long as I can remember. I'm seeing you struggle for a long time now and to see that there are some people that believe in you, your art and your place in this hobby warms my heart. You are not an imposter by any means! You work your ass of for this. This isn't just a hobby for you. This is your passion, your life. Your dedication for this can be seen in every single video you published. You are not just a lucky guy. What you've experienced in germany and italy is something you've earned and deserved rightfully and I'm sure there is more to come. I hope that the past weeks will put you in a better place. If you would stop doing hobby right now, you would leave a gap in this community nobody would be able to fill. I wish you all the best mate ❤
i can not even begin to imagine the emotions you must of been feeling when you got that email. shit i reached out to my hobby hero. the person who pushed me over the edge to finaly take up painting last year and all i got was a spit in the face. you are one of the people i turn to and love to watch. not just because you are a banger painter but you just talk about your personal experiance thoughtout. keep painting homie. love from australia.
Yay! There's the video I was hoping for ever since Roman told me you were about to visit. Fantastic guy! For me, his sessions are not necessarily about the stuff I learn (which I only use maybe 25% of in daily painting) but the inspiration afterwards for weeks.
Great video. Appreciate your candor and honesty. I think the imposter syndrome is something that many mid-30's feel after "achieving the dreams." Its great to hear someone else say it out loud.
Holy shit Scott, you did it man. You got that painting lesson you've dreamed of! You earned every second of that experience with your diligence and honesty in the mini community. Love ya man. And huge props to Roman for being a true role model and friend. I hope everyone gets a day where they can experience something like this in their lifetime.
@Miniac, Scott my painting jurney started this year. And you and your channel accompanied me from the beginning. I learn a lot from your videos, streams and vods. So I want to thank you. People surrounding me, including painters, claim that, for one year of painting, my minis look great. And I think a lot of it comes from watching your content. Not only the technics, but also the philosophy to paint what I want, not what others expect of me. So thank you.
Your channel was my gateway into the world of miniature painting. I watched your beginner series prior to ever putting paint to plastic. I used your video with Jon to pick out the foundation of my paint collection. Imposter syndrome is a bitch, 18 years into my career and I still have days where I doubt that I know what I'm about. Stay true to yourself, your videos continue to inspire no matter the whims of the uncaring algorithm.
Scott, I watch all your vids when they come out. Some might perform well in metrics(looking at warhammer stuff) while others perform well in message, like this one here. We all hit slumps, but you're so right in just taking the time to be present in what you do, and that includes miniature painting. We're always creating something beautiful in our hands when we pick up a brush and slather wet pigment all over the model. I know that in part thanks to people like you who are able to find your videos and inspiration from that, you play a huge role in their hobby journey. That said, I'd totally say what Roman is to you, a hobby hero, you fill that role for me dude. Keep on keeping on brother, and thank you so much for making this kind of content.
I absolutely loved this video. Such a simple leasson to us all to get out of our own headspace and be in the moment which, in this time of film and photograph everything, a lot of us don’t do and we miss out on the experience and instead become viewers in our own lives.
I don’t often comment on videos, but I have to for this one only to say that, as a longtime viewer of your channel, I think this is your best to date by a huge margin. This isn’t to diminish any of your past content, but only to say you’ve elevated your game as immensely with this. I look forward to your attempts to top it.
great video Scott, keep it up, you're an inspiration for many. I remind me the old old days where I had the chance of having Jeremy Bonamant painting some of my minis at my place, sharing time with Allan Carrasco or getting a personnal friendly coaching by Bruno Grelier. Painting miniis is not only a hobby, it is a open door on the world.
I attended a 2 day class with Roman in the UK June 2023 and it was amazing. He’s such a great human being and really help me in creating an atmosphere for my minis… I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the experience and, as an Italian; I’m glad you attended Monte San Savino too. !!
Pulling tears today Scott. Being so close to age and having an odd hobby i'm so dedicated too, you really hit home with this one! keep rocking my dude.
Ik a lot of ppl in the mini painting community may not be religous but I just wanted to say I’ve been watching ur channel for a long time and I love what god has done in ur life and the mini painting community u have sort of pulled together and fortified. Long time fan of yours Scott
I remember the first time i saw the last Light, I'd never seen a diorama before, well maybe some small ones, but that blew my mind, I understand you having feelings of not belonging and being an imposter, I get it just from watching these videos so to go through that must have been intense, but you are genuinely one of my idols and you definitely deserved to be there, your work is phenomenal and if I could be 10% the artist you are I'd be ecstatic, we'll done sir!
I first found you @miniac back in 2018 when i stumbled upon your eavy metal series. You were the first painter that I watched every video i could and the first person i subscribed to on Patreon. You inspired me to try to have fun and understand that i was doing was actually art and not just an expensive paint by numbers for a wargame that i didn't even play. I cannot explain how big this was for my development as an artist. I still struggle to say that even to this day. After dropping and picking up painting multiple time over the course of 3 or so years, I would come back to your videos every single time and it would kick off another round of painting. Now I paint more than any other hobby now. I actually play Warhammer 40k and have a 4000+ point fully painted and all be it boringly based army of a homebrew Salamander successor chapter. I follow more painters on instagram than any other subject, including food. All because of you my dude. You inspired it. I know suffering from imposter syndrome is never something you really get over but you aren't an imposter to me!!! keep up the awesome work! Oh and i stopped using alcohol in my airbrush like you recommended all those years ago and I haven't had that dry tip issue ever since
Hey man, just wanted to take a moment while I'm absorbing this video to relate on a couple things, that I think maybe will be nice to hear from a fan and someone who admires your art. - I am also on the cusp of my 30s, just beginning to learn maturity and develop a more sensible worldview. I definitely think I understand the headspace. - I agree that Roman is one of the best painters in the world! This is incredible for you, and you've worked INSANELY hard to earn it. I remember that time you uploaded a video everyday. - Just so you know, you are to me what Roman is to you. You TAUGHT me how to paint, but more than that, you taught me to think like an artist. Break down shapes and colors and wet a 💦moist💦 wet pallet for those c r e a m y blends. Etcetera. I have spent HOURS painting minis and watching your videos thinking, "Hm. Man Scott is such a cool guy. It would be sick to get some Raising Canes tendies and paint with him." So yeah. I get where you're coming from. I just wanted you to know that YOU are like Roman to someone. I genuinely hope you do some videos on what you learned. Chromatic gray?? I'd be STOKED to see some stuff. Anyway, thanks Scott. Thanks for encouraging me tooOOOO PAAINT MORRE MINIS
Love this type of video, Scott. Don't worry about the views, these videos are inspiring as hell for the real viewership of your channel. The people who watch to be entertained, informed and educated. The WH40k community won't click it and give you the additional 40,000 views, but the folks who do click it are the heart of your audience. Gorgeous paint job and what an amazing experience you must have had. Live that life, man!
Always awesome to watch your videos, from the laugh's to adding more tools to my painting toolbox. From the bottom of my heart thank you for what you do.
As someone who spends far too much time in his own head, so much of what you spoke about really hit home. Your videos are always educational and, especially these days, very thought-provoking in the best ways. Keep doing what you're doing, and thank you.
It's been beautiful to watch you grow and reach this point. You don't deserve the imposter syndrome. you are the first mini painter i recommend people watch because it's about attitude and not just painting.
Brilliant video Scott. Keep enjoying the hobby, and accept the compliments! You're a legit painter/presenter/videographer. Also that Pascale Blanche-inspired kroot at 14:28 is RAD!
Wow! So cool. I actually don't think I knew who he was but maybe I've seen his face before. I've really loved your videos since I started painting again during COVID lockdowns. By the looks of those magnificent pieces of art at Monty, I am definitely still using crayons and quite clearly have a looooooong way to go before getting even a quarter the way as good as you or them. But I'll keep trying - even when I get disheartened with all the paint that's dried out on my palette from lack of time to actually paint. Love your work mate.
I am so happy that you have gotten to experience what you did with a personal hero, and visit a place that you had dreamed about travelling to for so long. Just that something like that could happen to you as a consequence of being your genuine truthful self, and having the courage to live out your life in the service of your dreams, is such an inspiration. Not going to lie, as soon as you mentioned this trip in the podcast, I have been waiting for this video, and it didn't disappoint. Thank you for wearing your heart on your sleeve and being authentic AF.
I won a Roman Lappat miniature in a NOCF raffle last year and it's one of my favorites in my collection. Roman was even kind enough to respond to me when I posted on his Insta about it. He seems like a really nice guy and I'm so happy that you had this opportunity, Scott. You have been a major influence in my own growth as a miniature painter so it's great to see you get the opportunity to grow as well.

I was not prepare for this journey.
Thanks papa. It's always worth to support you as always
Very true. I agree!
Why does Roman have to be some damn adorable at the end! Made me cut some onions.
great video Scott, keep it up, you're an inspiration for many.
I have to say, it's nice to know I am not the only "space-cadet" in the void. Loved this one Scott.
Good for you bro... you deserve it!
This video was a great way to start the work week. I hope the tumult of life you mentioned lets up and smoothes out.
that looks like it was an amazing trip.
That was wholesome.
Keep on keeping my dude.
Oh and i stopped using alcohol in my airbrush like you recommended all those years ago and I haven't had that dry tip issue ever since
This is really affirming that there are great people about in the hobby and great that you got to experience it Scott, kudo's for sharing
Phenomenal! Keep on Happy Painting :-)
:)
It would be sick to get some Raising Canes tendies and paint with him."
So yeah.
Nice one Scott! Happy for you fella!
Your videos are always great, but this one was pretty special I have to say. Very wholesome, loved it.
This is a love note to miniature pranting. You two are legends. Thank you for sharing the craft.
That was a nice watch
Always awesome to watch your videos, from the laugh's to adding more tools to my painting toolbox. From the bottom of my heart thank you for what you do.
What a fantastic video. I could have watched a three part series on this trip, or even a feature length doc!
As someone who spends far too much time in his own head, so much of what you spoke about really hit home.
Your videos are always educational and, especially these days, very thought-provoking in the best ways.
Keep doing what you're doing, and thank you.
I feel that man! Going to start a Flesheater Courts army and use that to finally break free.
It's been beautiful to watch you grow and reach this point. You don't deserve the imposter syndrome. you are the first mini painter i recommend people watch because it's about attitude and not just painting.
I keep coming back to this one lol.. What an incredible upload. Literally puts me in a good space when I re-watch this.
Same :)
Can't believe you were there! I went to Monte on sunday...didn't see you around. I Hope you Will come back again and meet you! Cheers
When Roman Lappat puts up the bat (brush?) signal, you scoot!
This was a dope review of your once in a lifetime experience. More importantly, props to you for doing something for yourself and filling your tank!
Thank you for sharing this story. It made me happy and tear up a bit.
Great ish, man
I am so happy that you have gotten to experience what you did with a personal hero, and visit a place that you had dreamed about travelling to for so long.
Signed
I enjoyed listening to your podcast about this.
Gaddam man. Ive never been so happy for you bro. As an OG subscriber, i can tell you that you defo deserve this!
what a class act.
