The Invisible PS5 Setup: Building an Air-Cooled Media Unit!

- One of the biggest problems with the PlayStation 5 is how enormous it is, making it incredibly difficult to find furniture that can contain the console whilst also providing decent airflow. In this video, I attempt to install cabinet fans to my IKEA media unit to see if I can make my TV setup look even more clean & minimal. Try not to judge my DIY skills 👀

TH-cam seems to punish the kind of content we make these days. It's unfortunate as this video is top quality! Great work Jorge!
Ah I’m not too worried, sometimes the algorithm will pick things up after a few weeks/months then viewership builds over time - every video is a lesson! 👌🏻
Great content subscribed..
You have to turn all your content into tiktok knockoffs to succeed on TH-cam now
you know who you are , youtube is shit
Too bad TH-cam I found this gem duck the system
I just moved into my first house, and after the last video with Tom I think it was with the wood slats, I’m in! Im constantly moving things around in my TH-cam office, you’re vids look fantastic and provide amazing ideas for my own workspace 🙌 love it 🤙
I’m glad this was recommended to me. I had considered doing something like this in the past but I eventually gave up on the idea. This turned out really well.
just discovered your channel, and I gotta say, the quality is top-notch! keep it up, the views and subs will follow soon enough!
This is exactly the solution i was looking for. Great video, and your setup 👌
Clean and Smart! My idea for my first own flat but i cant afford it (but i had the dream of that media centre with airflow years ago its so clean!) 🙂
Did it in a very beautiful way!!!
I was considering a project like this before I bought a BDI Corridor. Really cool to see someone else pull it off.
Thanks for sharing the idea. Love it! Inspired. 😊
A clean and seamless setup, extremely inspirational.
Great Work, Jorge!! Loved it!
looks really good! I used to have that same unit but I've since purchased a BDI Corridor 8179. Not cheap, but it's so well designed and has vents in every panel/shelf that you don't even need fans. it's super pricey though. when I had my besta, i did this with the exact same besta unit years ago. luckily i used a different method to cut the fan holes and managed to get some clean cuts. im far too OCD with stuff like that. i would have ended up going through the hassle of purchasing and reinstalling an entirely new media console just to not have to think about the mess i made. this is why i work very slow and methodical as if not ill end
Awesome! I was looking for something like this! A tip if you'll do anyting like this again is to take a drill bit and drill right trough the cabinet in each corner of the stencil, then you can align the stencil and cut from both sides and get a clean result on the inside aswell. cheers
Thank you for taking the time to actually give advice instead of just telling me how bad my DIY skills are 😅
Love the end result! Great job despite the cold sweats.
This is great! Subscribed.
U deserve more views ,the quality of your videos is amazing
I love your setup! For that you deserve a sub.
Underrated channel but you’ll get there. Keep up the good work.
Excellent! I Loved it!👌🏻
Congrats, great job. 💪🏻
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Oh yes oh yes!!!! I was reminded of my hidden Switch dock!
I have been working on wall mounting my existing TV, even though the resulting setup wouldn't look as clean as yours for reasons I can't easily explain, but I do plan to modify my existing FortyTwo TV console to allow me to run more cables and to add cooling.
(1:30) On a side note, is that an IKEA power board I see? I'm reminded of having one mounted behind a monitor in my 'workshop' of sorts and plan to do the same for my living room TV.
Very good idea! Make the cutouts better with a jigsaw and protect both sides with tape. Then you do not have the breakouts. For inside there are frames to cover the edges.
Any kind of tape will do?
Just a suggestion Jorge, hang you media cabinet by a French Cleat. Much easier to hand it by yourself that way. Great vid, I am building a cabinet for my projector and will be using AC infinity for the projector draw.
better do those passthrough holes before the warmer weather hits. best to do when it cool and comfy instead of hot and tiring
Ac infinity is good stuff got my whole grow setup with them great quality
Great job, really clean set up.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Clean
Looks so sleek now man, great job. I think the scratch adds some.... personality 🥴
Beautiful set up man. Where is the couch from? What is it called?
Going to try this myself! Can you please link your steering wheel and pedal mount pretty please
beautiful doors
Maybe noctua fans instead and both placed underneath just running at slowest speed would be silent and effective enough without needing a temp controller.
I put my ps5 in a cupboard that’s maybe a little larger than yours. I bought some usb powered fans but never installed them. There’s a 10cm hole at the top for wires which will help, but I’ve never had an issue with loud fans or overheating.
Is there a way to see the ps5 temperature? Like a debug screen maybe?
Try to test this cooling again playing final fantasy 16 and see if it works.
You could get some vinyl wrap for the doors, to cover up the scratch (and maybe give the unit a nice contrasting color).
Not a bad idea! I do really like the light grey doors but unfortunately they’ve been discontinued so unless they show up on FB marketplace I might have to get creative 😅
You deserve more subs and views
nice set up.... where is the black jacket from?
Wait, you went to all that trouble of adding in the fans, but you didn't bother to cut a hole in the shelf between the intake fan and the actual PS5?
I'm unsure how you could possibly get any reasonable air flow in there with the self dividing top and bottom? The flow would be so very restricted to edges (shelf against the door, back wall etc)... Could you cut off part of that shelf (like 2-3" off the back side edge) to get air flowing better?
Why is no one talking about this
Amazing! Would be nice to get a Home-Tour :D
I have plenty of video tours on my channel already! 🤙🏼
Love the setup! Been looking for something similar for my own setup. Just wondering: how does your PS5 controller and remotes connect through the closed cabinets? Do you use something like an IR-extender or something?
It uses bluetooth connection and the closed cabinets do not create a barrier between the connection.
What's that massive plug set up you've got in the wall 😮
Great video Jorge, I need to get one of those multi-tools! Is that an Ikea cabinet? I'm sure you can get a spare door from them to resolve the scratch.
I had never used one before, couldn’t believe how easy it was for stuff like this! Yessir, this is part of the BESTA range, unfortunately they’ve discontinued this specific colour so I’m currently scouring Facebook marketplace for a replacement 🥲
I have the same unit but mine isn’t on the wall. Not sure where I could put the intake fan if I were to put the PS5 in the cabinet…
Please tell me where did u get your sectional from ?
chuck the Ps5 in the wardrobe punch a hole in the side of the wardrobe and u get urself the invisible ps5 🙌 nah but on a serious note this set up was reeeal smooth my guy👌
the control panel is crooked, and i can see where you over cut... im squirming... but... i used the same solution on my tv stand and i like your floating tv stand and want one
where did you get the adapter for the power
I found my kind of guy 😊
Do u have a link for uk power lead please for fans
Does you ps5 slim get really hot after 30 min to an hour?
Trust me mate, i just recreated your console unit with the same fans you mentioned, i shipped the fans from usa to india!
Would it not be easier just to open the door on the ps5 side of the cabinet when your playing it
Where did you buy the sofa
Is that the IKEA one? I think you can buy the doors separately
nice work.
I kinda like the TV, what brand is it?
It’s the 65” LG C2 👌🏼
so im looking at the Besta unit and wanting to mount it like you have. How much of a "ball ache" is it? Cant quite find any info on it and the reviews on Ikea are all US based where they complain it doesnt mount correctly (mostly because their houses are made out of cardboard ;-)
Wasn’t too painful, I used a few of the blue ‘grip-it’s’ and they’ve held with no issues. The hardest part was finding something to rest it on to line up the holes!
5:09
“At this point I realized how much better my setup looked without the ps5 on show”
Me: yes😮
Finally I found someone who was thinking like me .....
what is that scratch 7:15 lol
i love it alll but colour white is kiling my eye
Tu fais un bon boulot
Merci beaucoup! 🙌🏼
I hope the ps5 pro is more aesthetically pleasing to look at
Where is the Sound test ?
Your mistakes here are a lesson learned for life 🤣 ask for help! I'll be picking up a ps5 digital next month. Only just had the funds to get one after we had an extension to the house finished. Our media wall is fitted to the same wall where the stairs go under. So im gonna mount it under the stairs in a large box with the air cooller unit you used here. Cables will be hidden behind the wall and will have the controllers on a mount which will plug into the media wall usb ports 👍👍😉😉 might even use some ducting for the ehxaust fan
Did the sawdust come out of your carpet?
Nice video and cool concept, but for your own sake, wear safety goggles when using power tools 😣
Fair point! I’ll keep this in mind for future projects 👌🏼
It would have been so easy to just clip the doors off man. Would have made every step of this much easier and you would never have scratched them.
Only one problem with this, I’m not smart enough to think of these things ahead of time 👀 fortunately managed to find a replacement door, looks great now!
How does the warmer temperatures in uk affect the fan triggers / noise?
It’s been solid so far. I had to increase the probe trigger because of the higher ambient temperature but the fans keep everything under control - a success!
@@JorgePowellhow’s the fan noise like?
everything looks excellent! until that scratched surface -.-
Haha not my best work - fortunately I’ve since replaced the door!
how you fixed the cabinet door?
I found a replacement door on FB marketplace!
Personally I would've set it up with two exhaust fans and passive intake, there's not much of a reason you need to have an intake fan, negative pressure with an intake vent would've been enough
I can reverse the airflow of the fans, so I’ll give this a go and see if it makes any significant difference to the temps 👌🏼
@@JorgePowell I wouldn’t do this unless you cut a passive intake vent into the cabinet, otherwise I would worry about being able to get air inside
U just needed a better multi tool and a bit more preparation. Woulda been fine. Still looks good mate.
Thanks mate, it was just a bit of fun but some people are commenting like I’ve just cut off one of their children’s limbs. Lessons learned! 🤣
Minor scratches?
I would be shopping for a new cabinet looks like wolverine had at it and to see the over cut at the control pannel would drive me insane.
Awesome idea but implementation Is.....well lol
Haha thankfully I’ve found a replacement door since making this video - I never claimed to be a pro 😅
@JorgePowell that's great to be able to replace the door. how well has it regulated the temperature in the following months since posting the video?
I'm crying inside, the fans are half the price of the PS5. I bet you with a small arduino, and a well programmed fan curve this can be done under 50$ and integrated in home assistant.
I know you hate looking at them scratches, see if you can get another door
I managed to find a replacement! 👌🏼
Wouldn’t it be better to have the output fan on the very top rather then the side as heat rises
Potentially, but I preferred the look of a side-mounted layout and during my initial research I found that most people had installed them like this so figured it would be fine
@@JorgePowell I’m just thinking of the setup like a pc with fans etc. Do you have room for 1more fan create some negative air pressure on the exit
👍
that scratch on the door is an eyesore 😢
Haha I’ve since managed to find a replacement thankfully 😅
That door scratch 😢
Bro I was so mad 😂
that scratch.... aiyayayyy.... hard to watch
For the Algorithem 🙌🏼
The invisible ps5 jajajaja😂😂😂😂🥹
Unless you say otherwise, I believe there is no longer a visible PS5 👀
Bro threw on his girls socks 😅but it’s cool just different
😂😂😂 I knew someone would out me!
Hiding the wife could be easier
ps5 sucks air from the top and exhausts it at the back having it on the flour does nothing
id rather look at the ps5 than that horrible scratch :D:D hahaha
I’ve since found a replacement, thankfully!
yeah im sorry, but you've made a right mess of that.
Amazing plan/theory, horrible execution.
Definitely worth having an expert or friend help with this kind of thing
All this cuz people didn’t like where the psp was OmG
First!
good idea bad execution
Thanks mate, appreciate the kind words 👌🏼
didnt watch the video. just here to let everyone know that having ac on inside the room where the ps5 (even pc) is more than enough. zero need of this.
Should have watched the video then, I’m based in the UK - a country famous for its lack of air conditioning 🤷🏻♂️
