One piece I’d like to offer as a revision to the power button/port cover: instead of it being 1 solid piece that acts for 2, the power button should be sectioned off and then the port cover should be an independent section. Having them this way wouldn’t cause impedance and would probably give longevity to the micro-hinge.
I understand that, but how often are you turning on the console by the power button? I usually just use the remote to power it on and put it into sleep mode
Personally what I would have tried to do is made the power button a hexagon to match the air intake and make the port section a sort of slide away carbon fiber door.
This is next level. When I was a kid some friends & I made ourselves custom Xbox's but nothing so grandiose as this. We used more crude tools and method, IE we used a ruler and a dremel to cut out the cover, then decorated the inside with LED light strips and adhesive, and glued a piece of plexiglass to the inside so you could see the motherboard, disc drive and heat sinks. We all thought that was pretty neat.

I agree. I liked it when things were built to last. I love seeing old things restored. Everything is plastic. They need to stop with plastic now and change. Carbon fibre can be expensive to make so they'd need to perfect that but wood is great. Even recycled wood rather than using new wood.
He ONLY uses the CNC machine because it is quick and fast NOT because its the only way or whatever. Pretty much everything he builds can be done by amateurs like most of his viewers
I would highly recommend not gluing the top though. It would be a better idea to also make the top as easy to remove with a little bit more improvisation to dust out the console from time to time. Overall, I loved it! Make it from 90% amazing to 100% professional in terms of finish and it would be damn perfect to have. People would even probably buy it for a fair price too.
Yeah I love the walnut and ngl. the Carbon is cool.. I imagine using something like galvanic colored steel instead of carbon fiber would also look amazing. Using steel you could simply use magnets to secure the top. This way you can easily access the hardware will making sure the top stays in place.
I was just thinking about that as well, and the fact that dust and debris could go into the top panel through the honeycomb pattern. (I was thinking he'd add a filter or something to account for that) I wonder if you could use an electromagent or just strong magnets to hold the panel on the top for easy removal, or if you'd want to stick with simple screws.
what amazes me most about you is not so much the ability to design and build, but the incredible sense of design, equal to or superior to famous brands.
@@lucasrem You know these things don't get easier when building a PC, right? I mean, look at the huge modding scene there is for PC case modding. Some take pre-exisiting cases and adding amall notions, paint and whatnot, some transform them completely and others even build their very own case like DIY Perks did for his PS5 here.

But watching Matt transform a piece of garish geek tech into a functional work of art is awesome!
Playstation designers talking to each other: come on guys let’s design a new housing for the new PS 5. Meh, what’s the point. DIY PERKS designs it’s own anyway. But what about the PS 6? well, we just send him the inner parts and then we’ll see what he come up with.
Of course if you are willing to pay your ps5 a lot more expensive. See when they choose a design, they look at what will be effective, while being able to get lots of materials for low price. In order to have the cheapest console so that the MAJORITY of people can buy it. See the fact that you may be able to afford a more expensive ps5 just for the look doesn't mean the other part of the world can. And the goal of Sony is to sell the most console. That's why you don't get those high end design on consoles. See there is always compromise. Thats why apple computers are very beautiful but a lot less powerful that a computer for the same price

Honestly, that's what I expected the sponsored part of the video to be when he began his segue. I thought he was going to say he'd partnered with dbrand to release a conversion kit to swap your PS5 internals into his custom-designed case.
You read my mind bro.
One piece I’d like to offer as a revision to the power button/port cover: instead of it being 1 solid piece that acts for 2, the power button should be sectioned off and then the port cover should be an independent section. Having them this way wouldn’t cause impedance and would probably give longevity to the micro-hinge.
What a good idea. If I ever do something similar I'll keep that in mind.
Also you wouldnt accidentally turn off your ps5 when trying to access the front ports this way.
I understand that, but how often are you turning on the console by the power button? I usually just use the remote to power it on and put it into sleep mode
Personally what I would have tried to do is made the power button a hexagon to match the air intake and make the port section a sort of slide away carbon fiber door.
Every time I watch one of your projects I’m honestly stunned by their beauty, your creativity and attention to details.
Even the dbrand integration was on point. How can this guy nail every video so perfectly?
This is next level. When I was a kid some friends & I made ourselves custom Xbox's but nothing so grandiose as this. We used more crude tools and method, IE we used a ruler and a dremel to cut out the cover, then decorated the inside with LED light strips and adhesive, and glued a piece of plexiglass to the inside so you could see the motherboard, disc drive and heat sinks. We all thought that was pretty neat.
It is.
that's lowkey wholesome though and its nice to hear cause I've never tried shit like that before.
And I thought making an origami crane was impressive...
@@h_X_f- A crane? Now that’s impressive.

@@ЛиэмКэмпбелл yeah, I would have considered the digital version, maaaaybe, if it was something substantial like 60% of the price of the full version. With such a small difference, I can't understand why they even made a discless one.

Best tip with cutting carbon fiber is spray some soap on it before cutting as it lets less of the dust get in the air.
i kind of wish or hope that appliances go back to being part of like a furniture like the tv or radios we had back in the day. i kind of like it when it just blends in rather than it being THERE telling us an appliance is sitting on a furniture.
I agree. I liked it when things were built to last. I love seeing old things restored. Everything is plastic. They need to stop with plastic now and change. Carbon fibre can be expensive to make so they'd need to perfect that but wood is great. Even recycled wood rather than using new wood.

Classy and Elegant. This is perfect for those who game in a living room and don't wanna mess up the aesthetic of the entire room.
carbon fiber is conductive. Always use insulation when mounting PCBs directly.
I would highly recommend not gluing the top though. It would be a better idea to also make the top as easy to remove with a little bit more improvisation to dust out the console from time to time. Overall, I loved it! Make it from 90% amazing to 100% professional in terms of finish and it would be damn perfect to have. People would even probably buy it for a fair price too.
the bottom is screwed and removable, thats where the cleaning access is
@@iJunzy the bottom is the steel plate side, so no easy access to hardware
Yeah I love the walnut and ngl. the Carbon is cool.. I imagine using something like galvanic colored steel instead of carbon fiber would also look amazing. Using steel you could simply use magnets to secure the top. This way you can easily access the hardware will making sure the top stays in place.
I definitely would buy what he just made😲
I was just thinking about that as well, and the fact that dust and debris could go into the top panel through the honeycomb pattern. (I was thinking he'd add a filter or something to account for that)
I wonder if you could use an electromagent or just strong magnets to hold the panel on the top for easy removal, or if you'd want to stick with simple screws.
I guess that would be handy if someone breaks into your home to steal your stuff. They wouldn't steal the wood grain looking devices.

I hope technology eventually starts to take on this understated, material aesthetic.
