19 Jiu-Jitsu Solo Drills While You’re Quarantined

  • We are all going a little stircrazy, and most of us are unable to train with other humans right now. So here are some solo drills and movements that don’t require the participation of other people. If you have a floor, a wall and possibly a bag and chair, you have plenty of drill and movement options.

    I hope you’re all safe and well, and that this pandemic passes quickly.

He also left a 7-meter streak of urine as he was dragged across the tiles into the fridge. Oh well, no harm, no foul. The imoprtant lesson here is, dont do drugs! Hope this helps. OSS!!!!

    I remember doing those without knowing what they were when I took beginner classes at my instructor’s old school a few years ago. I believe we were drilling stage five punch protection from the guard, and J. decided to throw this in to get us used to spinning on our shoulders from right side to left. I still don’t understand the purpose, because I only did it once; but I’d love to have someone clarify the purpose of those transitions, if you could.

My theory is still you can drill and train technique, so when you come back to sparring you will be sharp and wont feel like you lost momentum in bjj.

    Hey Eli, it's your favorite chess analyzer here. lol. I was hoping you might be able to share some tips to help me with solo drills while on carpet. I don't have access to a mat, and I'm in a much more limited space (the small basement). The fluidity and the movements are definitely tougher while on carpet (I can do exercises such the triangle warm up exercises and bridging exercises, however exercises like shrimping tend to lack any rhythm). Any suggestions would be great. And once again thank you for the awesome videos.
    For clarification, I'm not asking for new drills to do on carpet, and most of the drills that you focus on don't really favor carpet or mat. However, I was only asking if there's a certain material that one could wear or material that one could exercise on that would make it easier.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think even some cheap puzzle piece mats or pads like they put under gym equipment help better than nothing. Also, using knee and elbow pads (that allow mobility) will also help if you have to be on a hard floor. Plus, using a throwing bag, grappling dummy or heavy bag in the floor can avoid a lot of burns and bruises.

    I notice your left had is not flat on the floor.. and you take weight on the knuckles... do you have wrist pain? I have a similar issue with my right hand (can't do pushups or hold weight unless I'm knuckles down... great vid. Do you have any tips on training with wrist injury? Aside from "don't do it" :) :) If there are any of course... Thanks.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, my wrist has been injured for several years now and I don’t have much flexion in it. I tore a ligament and didn’t get it fixed or let it properly heal. I taped it for a long time, but eventually the tape didn’t do much to help any longer. I have to post on my knuckles on that side, which in turn has caused shoulder issues and worsened my neck issues. It definitely sucks, and I would recommend taking the time, in hindsight, to do wrist rehab and strengthening exercises as often as possible. Watch Lu Strength Therapy on Instagram and he has some awesome exercises you can do for wrist help.

    • @dougieladd
      @dougieladd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KnightJiuJitsu Many thanks for the reply and I will definitely check Lu Strength Therapy. It's always been a hindrance since I was in my 20's, I broke a lot of the bones in my right hand/wrist (stupid stuff as an angry kid) I discovered JJ in my 50's but now I can barely hold weight so I do the same as you in all cases. I too had a shoulder issue not long after starting JJ and couldn't lift my arm above my head... took 2 years for it to get better, but I was consistent with my exercises for my shoulder (no pushups, just should-ups which was the main one I did and I think probably helped - tendons take up to 18 months to heal). Good luck with yours and thank you again for the reply/recommendation.

    • @kushagragupta8068
      @kushagragupta8068 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And also, Sir, just a suggestion, apart from teaching JiuJitsu Combat Techniques, you can also try making videos, which tell that why one should learn jiujitsu, its advantages and disadvantages (if any). That would be helpful.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the video idea suggestion.
      As for the difference between Japanese and brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I don’t distinguish between them. Most people these days refer to the difference between them as being sport or reality fighting, but all Jiu-Jitsu (regardless of spelling) all comes the Japanese. There’s a lot more to it, but I just sum it up by saying it’s all Jiu-Jitsu to me.

    • @kushagragupta8068
      @kushagragupta8068 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KnightJiuJitsu So, Sir, if seen from one view, then you kinda teach Japanese Jujitsu. Right ? And Sir, when referring to the reply you gave me (which I thank you), keeping the word 'reality' in mind, the techniques that you teach, are powerful-strong and can end an attacker's day. Can't they ?

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I teach both self defense as well as sport, but I always make sure I explain the context if it’s not obvious. Some things are consistent between the sport and the reality fighting aspects, and some are dramatically different
