Todd wanted to make a game that his team is unable to make. You can't develop a good game with this kind of scope when your design philosophy is still stuck in 2008 and so is your engine.
The fact we have probably another 4-5 years until Elder Scrolls 6, then at least another 5-7 to Fallout 5 is just insane. When my oldest daughter becomes a teenager in 2030, she’ll be able to play Skyrim (in my house at least). Once done she can hop onto ES6, and then she can play FO5 when she’s in her 20s, and Starfield 2 when she’s almost 30. It’s crazy. Yes. We miss these games, but at some point you have to either expand the dev team to work on different games or outsource. Will the Fallout show still be relevant in 2030-2040? What’s the world going to look like then? Then again, that’s most games cycles nowadays.
There is very little if any hatred for Matty personally. They're just dissatisfied with the interview and airing their grievances with how it was conducted. People had questions they wanted answered, and they weren't. It's really as simple as that.
I enjoyed the casual interview, I think I can deal with the BGS engine and a lot of the issues that come with it, but the only thing I need to improve at Bethesda is writing, these games need better stories they basically are glued together with exploration and story and the story has been so lacking the last several releases it's so unfortunate.

this happens so much, i find a post or video where everyone says ALL the people in the comments are toxic, and then i find like 1 mean comment and thats it😂😂😂
I've been finding the same thing lately, seems like some kind of bot/machine learning activity tbh. 2 other separate videos entirely had comment sections full of people claiming a massive amount of hate being levied toward an individual mentioned in the video, but when you scroll through the comments it's all topical, random or just more of this same comment, with little to no hate to even be found anywhere. And one of the videos had these comments up within an hour or 2 hours of upload which didn't even make sense.
Just to clarify with that College Football vs Madden part, in years past, two different teams would make the football games and it was pretty much the consensus that NCAA was better than Madden. More features, better dynasty modes (you make a coach or player and recruit). They stopped making the College Football games in 2014 due to EA not wanting to work licensing out with the NCAA. We've been hoping for one forever and now we got a new one being developed from the ground up. It is made by a different team so we're hoping it's a lot better than Madden which at times is literally copying and pasting games.
I don't have a problem wiht Matty, but this was just a fair weather interview. No critical questions, nothing about the negative headlines. I mean, could IGN or Kotaku have really been worse?
Ship sailing is a thing in Skyrim mods. I think there are a few of them. They're closer to row boats because Skyrim is mostly rivers and lakes but they work so it is possible to do in the engine

So idk tf y’all talking about, but I’m guessing Luke removed many of those comments. So stop complaining lol. (Or they’re alllll shoved toward the bottom, idk)
Yea you just discovered the Bethesda PR bot campaign. ANYTHING that has to do with Bethesdas employees or projects as far as media is concerned has bots running defense, but sometimes they overshoot so it comes off half baked and strawmanish. They got called out for it when the Starfield Reddit sub had tons of accounts running interference on in game issues within minutes of the game launching, that a player wouldn’t have found out until you’d played for X amount of HOURS.
Yea dude I can't stand concern trolling. You'll see that stuff in all kinds of videos. Like cat videos for example. I can't tell you how many times I've seen "Wow I can't believe there are all these people saying the OP is abusing animals." But then it turns out no one is actually saying that in the comments. 🤣

The biggest difference between Madden and College Football comes in the franchise/dynasty modes in which you control the team for 10-20+ seasons. In the college games you do the recruiting, in Madden it's traded and free agency.
1:00:58 no there’s another interview where people asked him if they’d remake fallout 3 (as they should) and he basically said the same thing that he just said about the old ones.

I'm glad Emperor Todd did that interview with Matty. If you want to talk about your games, talk to someone who cares about your games. Matty also gave Todd a risky question where I went like "No, Matty! This will cause blacklash." It was a question about criticism and you know in current day it's very popular to call your fans nasty things, but Emperor Todd gave a good answer. I hate it when a Bethesda game is buggy and I also like to make fun of Todd but I'll always respect him for being such a nice guy and wish him the best. If you read this Todd, keep making interviews with people who care about your games.
1:09:40 So this is pretty much an old mod in Oldrim (classic skyrim) where you could unlock your own customiseable ship after raiding a pirate outpost in the Ghost sea. I forgot the name of the ship/mod but it should still be on Nexus. You could travel to other places (literally with loading screens) and do some rudimentary sea exploration as well as diving. As well as fight unique enemies with loot included in the mod. It was fun and made for some memorable mod moments for me. Hopefuly we do see ships in skyrim 2.
I was ok with the interview but I didn't get the right vibe/answers from Todd. It felt like a nothing burger. Many words from Matty, fewer words from Todd and not much said.
I'm not the biggest Matty fan, but the comments section and Luke's lack of acknowledgment of it comes across as pretty scummy to me. You don't have to like someone to be respectful, and as a content creator who is supposedly "friends" with him, I would expect Luke to not use Matty's content while also allowing his name to be dragged through the mud. I'm not saying he should have banned people, but actually address what the comments were saying and defend him a bit. This doesn't feel like criticism, it feels like bullying. Also, I cannot remember and cannot find any podcast that Luke and Matty did together for Starfield, despite what he said in the video. Maybe it's really old and that's why I can't find it, but as far as my memory goes, there was SUPPOSED to be a podcast together, but MrMatty canceled the last minute or something with Luke alleging that it's because he is skeptical of the game. So I feel like Luke playing this whole dynamic as them being friends and all is really weird since clearly this seems very one-sided. I like watching Luke, but he's gotta address how his community is acting, he is very quickly creating a very toxic, mean, and cruel community of bullies who justify their bullying by painting it as criticism and skepticism. I'm not saying he is all of these things, but by not addressing this, he is letting it happen.
he did defend matty in this video tho. and the comments here arent even that mean. most of the comments here are calling him a shill personally i dont think that way but i dont think its that mean. even if luke responded to these comments its not like he would be able to change anyones mind. it would be kinda pointless
@@mrpebbles3904agree, fighting/addressing comments is pointless effort. You will go mad, talking to walls and won’t accomplish anything but wasting time. To me comment sections are for “lol” to see just how wtf people can be. When not in the mood for that I just ignore the section and just watch the video as that’s the point of coming to a video is it not?? Why is it on the TH-camr to manage the comments. If they did then people would just b***** over that.
Yes, I know it did happen, Luke is telling the truth. Should he have defended Matty more? I don't know, I guess, but I don't think he ever treated Matty in a disrespectful manner. If anything, I see them as 2 sides of the same coin: the optimist and the pessimist, but they respect one another and they respect their differences. As for Luke's audience, I think he has an issue of attracting negativity and negative comments without knowing how to draw a line on where they stand. And he himself is ok, but some in the audience go beyond that. Scepticism is good and healthy, but there are limits to it. It's fair to acknowledge when someone you might not like or agree with does something good instead of assuming the worst and Luke does that. Because otherwise you fall in an "everything sucks" mindset and you fail to accurately see things as they are with pros and cons. You get depressed and fail to see the good things.
Streamers/TH-camrs don't acknowledge their community or comments. They allow all of them, that aren't way over the top, otherwise they destroy their channel by overmoderation. We don't want an echo chamber, discussion and disagreement is a good thing.
When this guy interviewing Todd said 'I opened Fallout 2 and I was like that's not Fallout, what is that?' I had to pause video and walk away from computer to regain composure. Now, I understand that he is a child that started with Fallout 3 and went on from there. But my sweet summer child, there is nothing more Fallout than 1 and 2. It is absolutely most Fallout thing out there and nothing Todd and his team made, bless their souls, has ever come close to those absolute units of games. Playing both those games when they came out transformed me and made so lasting impression that it's hard to quantify. Bethesda could perhaps make something close to that when they had team that made Daggerfall when they were really pushing it.

F3 and Skyrim most definitely are not masterpieces. F4 is a decent game at most. And calling Starfield a good game is just a big fat No. It's a middling, uninspired, average game by a studio that has been stuck with the same tech and design philosophy for decades now. Of course all of that is just my scale and how I rate things. What is undeniable however is the trend for Bethesda-made games. You shouldn't expect anything different if you keep designing the same game with a different coat of paint for well over a decade. The reason people are still playing Skyrim 13 years on, is because you haven't released Elder Scrolls 6, some people don't necessarily play everything Bethesda, some don't like the world of Fallout or Sci-Fi, so those people have been waiting 13 years and counting for a new instalment in their favourite franchise. Same for Fallout 4, the only offering since it's release was an online game, many people, me included don't play online games.
@@ZeSgtSchultz I agree, Skyrim was a one of a kind, and I doubt they'll ever repeat that success. However, they've always made great worlds in my opinion, even parts of Starfield were good, most of the dungeons they made were fun to explore, they were just copied and pasted, through the PG system, even the loot was the same, right down to the skill magazines, which if I remember correctly, didn't stack, and all that eventually took away the fun. So I have no doubt they'll create a great world for Elder Scrolls 6, if they go back to what they do best, single map worlds. Fallout 4 had a lot of misses, voiced protagonist, a simplified dialogue system, and those were addressed in Starfield to a degree, the dialogue while better still only had the illusion of choice and consequence. Now I just hope the issues with Starfield are addressed in TES6. It will have a huge player base to begin with, but how long before people start dropping off and go back to Skyrim.
I mean I don't know what answer people expected he clearly said that he doesn't see the need for it. Also Fallout New Vegas was like 14 years ago, different industry, obsidian was probably a different studio in many ways and also they already have a roadmap for the coming years with Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, so even if it was to happen it would be in 2030+ probably when Bethesda would be already hard working on Fallout 5, so it actually doesn't make any sense
here is something funny, related to bethesda games, so there are these videos that you can find online of people using objects in fallout to sort of make objects fly using other objects and it's really quite wonky and jank, but the basic idea that bethesda could make boats in their games work off of those mechanics could make sailing in a boat kind of fun, but also flying objects like hot air balloons i could see something like that in the next elder scrolls, but it would basically be within the same jank engine they have been using for all these years. but i could see using this exploit mechanic as a way to get around the landscape in an elder scrolls game mechanic, it's funny because this is something this engine is capable of doing, they just have to figure out a way to make it work that appeals to people while playing the game. like lets use an example that exists in skyrim, so in skyrim they have these drift wood objects that actually float on water, but the player can't get on top of one and float, however i could see something like that being worked on to the point where it uses that same mechanic and allows the player to manipulate the object further, so instead of running your boat like a horse ride or like how the scripted boats move, instead it's this skill you can use to make the boat move. it's just this exploit needs a way to make it work so all players could master it and so it's not so damn jank to deal with.
From a game aspect, NCAA and Madden don’t play the same. It’s difficult for me to explain. I’m sure there’s plenty of content creators that can explain it better but they really are two different games. Y'know, regarding the journalist you mentioned in the intro, I wish we had more like him. Most "gaming journalists" are neither gamers nor journalists, they're social activism bloggers looking for a better platform than HuffPo's opinion page. At least if more of them were honest about just being reporters working the game industry beat, maybe they'd do some real investigative journalism and proper interviews instead of us having literally only Jason Shrier taking the job semi-seriously, then sitting on the only important story he ever wrote until he could profit off it by publishing a book far too late to help or inform anyone.

The fact we have probably another 4-5 years until Elder Scrolls 6, then at least another 5-7 to Fallout 5 is just insane.

Good for Matty, glad he got to have a conversation with our Todd and saviour
Just to clarify with that College Football vs Madden part, in years past, two different teams would make the football games and it was pretty much the consensus that NCAA was better than Madden. More features, better dynasty modes (you make a coach or player and recruit). They stopped making the College Football games in 2014 due to EA not wanting to work licensing out with the NCAA. We've been hoping for one forever and now we got a new one being developed from the ground up. It is made by a different team so we're hoping it's a lot better than Madden which at times is literally copying and pasting games.
This pretty much sums it up, yep
yup. NCAA was always better regarded, even dating back to the PS2 days. Because it was.
And it’s why NCAA 14 is so expensive in the “retro” game market.
I don't have a problem wiht Matty, but this was just a fair weather interview. No critical questions, nothing about the negative headlines.

I was about to say the same thing.

Todd lies, Matty glazes, criticism on TH-cam is dismissed as "hate", gg.
Because there's a massive difference between "I don't think that's right" vs "You're a monster". Criticism needs to be more constructive and without insults or personal attacks. And there's a difference between defending someone and "glazing". This is why it's called hate and not criticism, because it assumes the absolute worse thing by default about someone you disagree with. It's not "oh, he just has different views and draws different conclusions, I disagree with", it's "he's a shill, fanboy, etc." Not everyone who disagrees with you is a shill or evil. Some people just feel different about things, we all like what we like and it's fine. You don't have to like what Matty likes and he doesn't have to like what you like. No one is the ultimate stadard of right/wrong or good/evil. No need to attack each other personally over it.

That video does exist I remember watching it
he did defend matty in this video tho. and the comments here arent even that mean. most of the comments here are calling him a shill personally i dont think that way but i dont think its that mean. even if luke responded to these comments its not like he would be able to change anyones mind. it would be kinda pointless

Nah, Skyrim is a pretty good game they'll never make again, a lot of luck went into it and Bethesda won't be rolling anymore natural 20s.
Howard still managed to dodge the direct question about Fallout New Vegas.
@@qualia.1377 We understood, that New Vegas was NEVER liked by Bethesda, because they hated to stand in its shadow.
here is something funny, related to bethesda games, so there are these videos that you can find online of people using objects in fallout to sort of make objects fly using other objects and it's really quite wonky and jank, but the basic idea that bethesda could make boats in their games work off of those mechanics could make sailing in a boat kind of fun, but also flying objects like hot air balloons i could see something like that in the next elder scrolls, but it would basically be within the same jank engine they have been using for all these years.
but i could see using this exploit mechanic as a way to get around the landscape in an elder scrolls game mechanic, it's funny because this is something this engine is capable of doing, they just have to figure out a way to make it work that appeals to people while playing the game.
like lets use an example that exists in skyrim, so in skyrim they have these drift wood objects that actually float on water, but the player can't get on top of one and float, however i could see something like that being worked on to the point where it uses that same mechanic and allows the player to manipulate the object further, so instead of running your boat like a horse ride or like how the scripted boats move, instead it's this skill you can use to make the boat move.
it's just this exploit needs a way to make it work so all players could master it and so it's not so damn jank to deal with.

I think it's funny you mentioned Steve Jobs, when talking about Todd. You can tell Todd was heavily inspired by Steve lol. I sadly think Todd is now overrated. I know it's a sin, and he is probably one of the most recognizable people in the gaming industry. I think maybe meeting him during marrowind, compared to now would have been completely different. Either way from a consumers stand point, I am glad they are improving Starfield. I just need to accept that BGS are just not for me anymore.
Todd and Bethesda is like Nokia. Nokia was the top dog cellphone company in the early to mid 2000s but others like Samung, Apple, Sony and many others completely blew past them later on because Nokia was too slow to adapt and couldn't innovate beyond a certain point.
Oh Todd, who art in heaven, Howard be thy name…🙏
He is right truer words have never been spoken!!
-30 fps is more than enough
Todd has a lagging brain so all motion is smooth to him 😂 (smooth as his brain)
The meeting of the super mind mr matty haha
Elderscrolls 6 and its actual fishbowls!
“Fallout 4 a near perfect video game.”
Mr.Mattysplay
Technically true, just depends on how you define "near" 😂
@@JediKnightoftheTifaCultgreat point!
A near perfect game would be like Ace Attorney.
@@dannysmi7162 agreed. And a perfect game would be bloodborne
@@rospat7811 I'm a Bloodborne Stan but game has so many issues. lol. It's my favorite game of all time but it's most certainly not perfect.
9:50 "Back in the day"? You mean like your "recent" video at Summer Games Fest, walking into your hotel room?
I like Matty when he does not speak about Bethesda games. He is just bias towards them.
Idk about that but tbh he has criticized starfiled since day one
@@leon-y5w5r Yeah when it was convenient, yet he flip flopped when he was interviewing Todd and called it an amazing game. I don't know how you can call a game amazing when you've been criticising it for months for being a poor game.
@@kylio95just because you criticize something doesn’t mean you can’t think it’s amazing or great overall. What is this one dimensional line of thought people like you have 😂
@@Reaver1223 How can you constantly criticise a game over and over again for views then suddenly call it an amazing game. That's not amazing game if all you do is criticise it.
@@kylio95 he hasn’t only criticized it. He’s done multiple reviews and impressions of Starfield around its release and with all the post-content updates. In them, he always highlights what he liked and what there is to criticize. Clearly you don’t actually watch his content if you think he has only complained about it lol
Luke! Interview Todd Howard!
Todd wouldn't give Luke the time of day. Nor should he.
(No offense, Luke)
I thought it was Miso soup, nope, it's the Todd's candle :D
If lying can become a person then that person would be Todd.
The story of the guy feeling out of place is interesting to me because i'm allergic to elitism, and that guy kinda was the opposite of what elitism means. Always remember, some of our most favorite game designers wanted to be movie directors originally and just stumbled into making games.
They will screw 6, totally screw it, the pooch too
😆😆😆
1:00:12
Luke: a game like this won’t find mainstream success
Baulders Gate 3: 👁️👄👁️
4:13 - Blood sacrifice for Todd Howard confirmed 🩸🩸🩸
I mean matty's okay, just hate that little to no actual hard-hitting questions were asked. just seemed like the interview was to stroke todd's ego.
A big difference, LUKE, between Madden and CFB is that even though they're both EA games they're made by different teams and Madden is notoriously complacent and terrible whereas the NCAA games were really well received. CFB has also been really good. So the games basically play like FPS games from two different studios, one of which is way better than the other.
mr matty glaze
"Still supporting Skyrim" PLEASE NO STOP BREAKING MODS!!!
Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies. 🎵🎶
37:01 but Obsidian has Tim Cain.
Thats not accurate. I own these games on pc and xbox so im counting for like 5 ppl. Im sure im not the only one who got it on sale for there other platform once in a while.
I know Todd scammed us multiple times but can we stop being mean to him in the comments? This community is so toxic you can't even scam people without them getting mad anymore. Disgusting behaviour, you lot should learn from us REAL FANS (soyboys defending a billionaire who scams people)
I know, poor toddy!! Scamming is an addiction for him, he deserves our support!
The only good comment I've read so far. I should write while I'm ahead. Have a great day man you made mine better.
You guys act like Todd is the CEO of Bethesda or something. Like, a billionaire, seriously?
Criticizing a company is different than putting all the blame of a company on one man. You rather go after the developers than the shareholders and CEO
That's really my only problem with it. Bethesda Setworks is a horrible company, and instead of giving the company heat, you guys just go after one game director of one of their studios
No! Todd is frickin awesome!! Let’s keep the comments clean and kind gamers!
Scamming lol? Theres a big difference between selling something with fancy words and straight up scamming
I like Matty but sometimes he needs to take off the rose tinted blind fold and quit throating Tod's rod, great interview nonetheless.
YES, I do have Stockholm syndrome... I keep coming back to "Todd" or "Bethesda" subjects and it melts down my brain even more... I feel the heat x16... and then I "have to" write the comment about how I am pissed about the sweet little liar and his creations! If there would be an option to STOP the world's hunger or Bethesda, I wouldn't hesitate.
