I enjoyed the casual interview, I think I can deal with the BGS engine and a lot of the issues that come with it, but the only thing I need to improve at Bethesda is writing, these games need better stories they basically are glued together with exploration and story and the story has been so lacking the last several releases it's so unfortunate.

I dunno man, getting hate out there, can be pretty good for the soul! Dont bottle it up, too many people are scared to say the truth. Obviously theres a right and wrong way to do it. At my age, i say wat i think. If people dont like it, its their problem.
I know it’s become a bit of a meme to dunk on Todd Howard, and Bethesda has made some huge mistakes over the last decade or so… But he really does seem like a genuine dude who really cares about the games he works on.
I'm not the biggest Matty fan, but the comments section and Luke's lack of acknowledgment of it comes across as pretty scummy to me. You don't have to like someone to be respectful, and as a content creator who is supposedly "friends" with him, I would expect Luke to not use Matty's content while also allowing his name to be dragged through the mud. I'm not saying he should have banned people, but actually address what the comments were saying and defend him a bit. This doesn't feel like criticism, it feels like bullying. Also, I cannot remember and cannot find any podcast that Luke and Matty did together for Starfield, despite what he said in the video. Maybe it's really old and that's why I can't find it, but as far as my memory goes, there was SUPPOSED to be a podcast together, but MrMatty canceled the last minute or something with Luke alleging that it's because he is skeptical of the game. So I feel like Luke playing this whole dynamic as them being friends and all is really weird since clearly this seems very one-sided. I like watching Luke, but he's gotta address how his community is acting, he is very quickly creating a very toxic, mean, and cruel community of bullies who justify their bullying by painting it as criticism and skepticism. I'm not saying he is all of these things, but by not addressing this, he is letting it happen.
he did defend matty in this video tho. and the comments here arent even that mean. most of the comments here are calling him a shill personally i dont think that way but i dont think its that mean. even if luke responded to these comments its not like he would be able to change anyones mind. it would be kinda pointless
@@mrpebbles3904agree, fighting/addressing comments is pointless effort. You will go mad, talking to walls and won’t accomplish anything but wasting time. To me comment sections are for “lol” to see just how wtf people can be. When not in the mood for that I just ignore the section and just watch the video as that’s the point of coming to a video is it not?? Why is it on the TH-camr to manage the comments. If they did then people would just b***** over that.
Yes, I know it did happen, Luke is telling the truth. Should he have defended Matty more? I don't know, I guess, but I don't think he ever treated Matty in a disrespectful manner. If anything, I see them as 2 sides of the same coin: the optimist and the pessimist, but they respect one another and they respect their differences. As for Luke's audience, I think he has an issue of attracting negativity and negative comments without knowing how to draw a line on where they stand. And he himself is ok, but some in the audience go beyond that. Scepticism is good and healthy, but there are limits to it. It's fair to acknowledge when someone you might not like or agree with does something good instead of assuming the worst and Luke does that. Because otherwise you fall in an "everything sucks" mindset and you fail to accurately see things as they are with pros and cons. You get depressed and fail to see the good things.
Streamers/TH-camrs don't acknowledge their community or comments. They allow all of them, that aren't way over the top, otherwise they destroy their channel by overmoderation. We don't want an echo chamber, discussion and disagreement is a good thing.
This is turning into Soapbox-Twitter. >Dozens and dozens of comments about "Omg i can't believe all these Matty haters in the comments :o" > 90%+ of the comments are glazing Matty / glazing Todd. Todd lies, Matty glazes, criticism on TH-cam is dismissed as "hate", gg.
Because there's a massive difference between "I don't think that's right" vs "You're a monster". Criticism needs to be more constructive and without insults or personal attacks. And there's a difference between defending someone and "glazing". This is why it's called hate and not criticism, because it assumes the absolute worse thing by default about someone you disagree with. It's not "oh, he just has different views and draws different conclusions, I disagree with", it's "he's a shill, fanboy, etc." Not everyone who disagrees with you is a shill or evil. Some people just feel different about things, we all like what we like and it's fine. You don't have to like what Matty likes and he doesn't have to like what you like. No one is the ultimate stadard of right/wrong or good/evil. No need to attack each other personally over it.
@@octavianpopescu4776 Because he is exactly those things... He did nothing but criticise Starfield (rightfully so) when it was convenient at the time, suddenly when he's interviewing Todd he asks no hard questions regarding Starfield and he's kissing his ass saying it's a great game. He jumps on the bandwagon like many other TH-camrs do.
They're completely different games though, if someone wanted to they could easily have done both if they actually liked both. I didn't really like either game so it didn't matter to me.
I'm glad Emperor Todd did that interview with Matty. If you want to talk about your games, talk to someone who cares about your games. Matty also gave Todd a risky question where I went like "No, Matty! This will cause blacklash." It was a question about criticism and you know in current day it's very popular to call your fans nasty things, but Emperor Todd gave a good answer. I hate it when a Bethesda game is buggy and I also like to make fun of Todd but I'll always respect him for being such a nice guy and wish him the best. If you read this Todd, keep making interviews with people who care about your games.
I mean I don't know what answer people expected he clearly said that he doesn't see the need for it. Also Fallout New Vegas was like 14 years ago, different industry, obsidian was probably a different studio in many ways and also they already have a roadmap for the coming years with Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, so even if it was to happen it would be in 2030+ probably when Bethesda would be already hard working on Fallout 5, so it actually doesn't make any sense
It would be all so good and beautiful if games from Bethesda wouldn't be outdated on the release! If those games had a good story or being truly open sandbox experiences, I could pass on the clunkiness that they have. But they are not - I still have a trauma of realization in F4 that I should finally stop helping strangers and go save my own son! Or those details like UI that sucks, Animations that are so bad, Combat that is just boring, Gunplay, etc, etc. YES, I sound like the hater, but I gave up on Bethesda after 76... and I am so disappointed that this company didn't sell Fallout Universe to developers who know how to create outstanding games. Imagine the Fallout game is done by Larian Studios...

@@yesno7695 Took a look at Metacritic PC user scores (cause I'm a PC player and I don't trust game journos) and here is what it looks like: Morrowind - 8.9 - Very good (almost a MP) Oblivion - 8.7 - Very good Skyrim - 8.6 - Very good Fallout 3 - 8.4 - Very good Fallout 4 - 6.9 - decent Starfield - 5.6 - average Morrowind, contrary to your standings, seems to be the highest rated Bethesda game of the bunch :) I still wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it's pretty close (anything above 9.0 rating verges on being a masterpiece IMO). F3 and Skyrim most definitely are not masterpieces. F4 is a decent game at most. And calling Starfield a good game is just a big fat No. It's a middling, uninspired, average game by a studio that has been stuck with the same tech and design philosophy for decades now. Of course all of that is just my scale and how I rate things. What is undeniable however is the trend for Bethesda-made games. You shouldn't expect anything different if you keep designing the same game with a different coat of paint for well over a decade. Todd is gettng old and so is Bethesda's game design philosophy and their tech. Time to move on and build something new for a change.
The reason people are still playing Skyrim 13 years on, is because you haven't released Elder Scrolls 6, some people don't necessarily play everything Bethesda, some don't like the world of Fallout or Sci-Fi, so those people have been waiting 13 years and counting for a new instalment in their favourite franchise. Same for Fallout 4, the only offering since it's release was an online game, many people, me included don't play online games.
@@ZeSgtSchultz I agree, Skyrim was a one of a kind, and I doubt they'll ever repeat that success. However, they've always made great worlds in my opinion, even parts of Starfield were good, most of the dungeons they made were fun to explore, they were just copied and pasted, through the PG system, even the loot was the same, right down to the skill magazines, which if I remember correctly, didn't stack, and all that eventually took away the fun. So I have no doubt they'll create a great world for Elder Scrolls 6, if they go back to what they do best, single map worlds. Fallout 4 had a lot of misses, voiced protagonist, a simplified dialogue system, and those were addressed in Starfield to a degree, the dialogue while better still only had the illusion of choice and consequence. Now I just hope the issues with Starfield are addressed in TES6. It will have a huge player base to begin with, but how long before people start dropping off and go back to Skyrim.

Hey Luke, I love your channel. Just real quick, a little over 3/4 in the video you mention how AC & Rainbow are what’s holding up Ubisoft, then mention when was the last time they did something with the Tom Clancy franchise was. here is something funny, related to bethesda games, so there are these videos that you can find online of people using objects in fallout to sort of make objects fly using other objects and it's really quite wonky and jank, but the basic idea that bethesda could make boats in their games work off of those mechanics could make sailing in a boat kind of fun, but also flying objects like hot air balloons i could see something like that in the next elder scrolls, but it would basically be within the same jank engine they have been using for all these years. but i could see using this exploit mechanic as a way to get around the landscape in an elder scrolls game mechanic, it's funny because this is something this engine is capable of doing, they just have to figure out a way to make it work that appeals to people while playing the game. like lets use an example that exists in skyrim, so in skyrim they have these drift wood objects that actually float on water, but the player can't get on top of one and float, however i could see something like that being worked on to the point where it uses that same mechanic and allows the player to manipulate the object further, so instead of running your boat like a horse ride or like how the scripted boats move, instead it's this skill you can use to make the boat move. it's just this exploit needs a way to make it work so all players could master it and so it's not so damn jank to deal with.

The story of the guy feeling out of place is interesting to me because i'm allergic to elitism, and that guy kinda was the opposite of what elitism means. Always remember, some of our most favorite game designers wanted to be movie directors originally and just stumbled into making games.

I think it's funny you mentioned Steve Jobs, when talking about Todd. You can tell Todd was heavily inspired by Steve lol. I sadly think Todd is now overrated. I know it's a sin, and he is probably one of the most recognizable people in the gaming industry. I think maybe meeting him during marrowind, compared to now would have been completely different. Either way from a consumers stand point, I am glad they are improving Starfield. I just need to accept that BGS are just not for me anymore.
Todd and Bethesda is like Nokia. Nokia was the top dog cellphone company in the early to mid 2000s but others like Samung, Apple, Sony and many others completely blew past them later on because Nokia was too slow to adapt and couldn't innovate beyond a certain point.
Meeting someone like Todd is like meeting Spielberg or Joss Whedon. Like, he’s an icon of the entertainment industry, with 2 decades of legacy behind him. Regardless of what you may or may not think of Todd Howard these days, there is no arguing that he is an iconic industry figure who has been connected with some of the greatest stories, experiences and moments in all of gaming. Even if his last couple of directorial efforts have been lacklustre.
Y'know, regarding the journalist you mentioned in the intro, I wish we had more like him. Most "gaming journalists" are neither gamers nor journalists, they're social activism bloggers looking for a better platform than HuffPo's opinion page. At least if more of them were honest about just being reporters working the game industry beat, maybe they'd do some real investigative journalism and proper interviews instead of us having literally only Jason Shrier taking the job semi-seriously, then sitting on the only important story he ever wrote until he could profit off it by publishing a book far too late to help or inform anyone.

God, I hope ES6 doesn't focus on ships, I don't play ES games for the 'pirate simulator' experience... plus assuming it's set in Hammerfell, that area isn't really suitable for boats considering how much of it is landlocked (vs something like AC:Odyssey/Greece). Might work for Highrock, but I really hope it's not a major focus. Also kinda sad that he doesn't seem to understand that them 'supporting' Skyrim/FO4 is a bad thing - all they do is break mods that are better than anything they add (Fallout London for a recent example).
Those kids movies written by Tot's bro are actually very good. I'm not a cartoon person, but my 6yo watches tinkerbell and I can tell you that the writing is excellent.
The biggest difference between Madden and College Football comes in the franchise/dynasty modes in which you control the team for 10-20+ seasons.
In the college games you do the recruiting, in Madden it's traded and free agency.

While you’re probably being facetious, I actually think that’s a pretty accurate description of old Todd boy.
I need someone to make a video about this video so I can understand what happens in this video about Marty’s video.
That video does exist I remember watching it
he did defend matty in this video tho. and the comments here arent even that mean. most of the comments here are calling him a shill personally i dont think that way but i dont think its that mean. even if luke responded to these comments its not like he would be able to change anyones mind. it would be kinda pointless
Remember guys u can love a game and still acknowledge it has issues
This is turning into Soapbox-Twitter.
>Dozens and dozens of comments about "Omg i can't believe all these Matty haters in the comments :o"

Howard still managed to dodge the direct question about Fallout New Vegas.

Todd says a lot of things, also quite a lot is not true. I've learned that from Starfield.
Love the video. Thanks for doing your thing.
I know they have multiple studios, but are they like, dedicating a studio to each IP? I mean, come on, +10 years?

Morrowind- Very Good
Oblivion- Masterpiece
Fallout 3- Masterpiece
Skyrim- Masterpiece
Fallout 4- Very Good
Starfiel- Good
Thats how it is, and they've got the metacritic scores to back that statement up ;)
@@yesno7695 Took a look at Metacritic PC user scores (cause I'm a PC player and I don't trust game journos) and here is what it looks like:
Morrowind - 8.9 - Very good (almost a MP)
Oblivion - 8.7 - Very good
Skyrim - 8.6 - Very good
Fallout 3 - 8.4 - Very good
Fallout 4 - 6.9 - decent
Starfield - 5.6 - average
Morrowind, contrary to your standings, seems to be the highest rated Bethesda game of the bunch :) I still wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it's pretty close (anything above 9.0 rating verges on being a masterpiece IMO).
Time to move on and build something new for a change.
an hour later and im still hung up on the todd candle
The reason people are still playing Skyrim 13 years on, is because you haven't released Elder Scrolls 6, some people don't necessarily play everything Bethesda, some don't like the world of Fallout or Sci-Fi, so those people have been waiting 13 years and counting for a new instalment in their favourite franchise. Same for Fallout 4, the only offering since it's release was an online game, many people, me included don't play online games.
Nah, Skyrim is a pretty good game they'll never make again, a lot of luck went into it and Bethesda won't be rolling anymore natural 20s.

This comment section is atrocious... Matty is a gamer just like the rest of us. Be better.
here is something funny, related to bethesda games, so there are these videos that you can find online of people using objects in fallout to sort of make objects fly using other objects and it's really quite wonky and jank, but the basic idea that bethesda could make boats in their games work off of those mechanics could make sailing in a boat kind of fun, but also flying objects like hot air balloons i could see something like that in the next elder scrolls, but it would basically be within the same jank engine they have been using for all these years.
but i could see using this exploit mechanic as a way to get around the landscape in an elder scrolls game mechanic, it's funny because this is something this engine is capable of doing, they just have to figure out a way to make it work that appeals to people while playing the game.
like lets use an example that exists in skyrim, so in skyrim they have these drift wood objects that actually float on water, but the player can't get on top of one and float, however i could see something like that being worked on to the point where it uses that same mechanic and allows the player to manipulate the object further, so instead of running your boat like a horse ride or like how the scripted boats move, instead it's this skill you can use to make the boat move.
it's just this exploit needs a way to make it work so all players could master it and so it's not so damn jank to deal with.
Listen as a football fan NFL and College may be the same game but they are two completely different styles of it. If that makes sense

God, I hope ES6 doesn't focus on ships, I don't play ES games for the 'pirate simulator' experience... plus assuming it's set in Hammerfell, that area isn't really suitable for boats considering how much of it is landlocked (vs something like AC:Odyssey/Greece).
