Fun fact, the T'au canon being able to avoid damaging infrastructure literally contradicts its gameplay purpose, destroying some of the enemies buildings to give you more time to prepare. Not that I ever really noticed its effects so they might be right.
It might sound cheap, but the only thing that was kind of a dealbreaker for me in this game is the fact that the bases you build DO NOT remain if another party attacks that particular map. That was so fun in Dark Crusade, you could spen 2h outlasting the enemy but building a ton of useful stuff (even turrets near the spawn points of enemy armies when they attack that location later) to sweep and surprise any who dare attack that location again. But in Soulstorm, every building you make, every point you control and have buildings around, is lost when the battle is over, and it gets SO tedious.
It's odd but I was actually the opposite. Once I got a decent honour guard, all my attacking missions were just base rushes with my starting army. I barely had to play the game (especially because I was Necrons so I didn't need strategic points to reinforce). Defence missions were the only time I actually played the game properly.
There’s a mod for soul storm that makes the campaign more interesting. It’s called advanced campaign, it allows buildings to stay after battles, adds a few more unique units, and generally just ups the AI. I’ve never seen armies go to other planets but with this mod I can watch the necrons tear the dark eldar a new bum.

The Funniest thing about the Sister's infantry is that despite being classified as Heavy Infantry, it generally has very low health. this means that if you equip the majority of your guardsmen with nothing but plasma guns, you can go through the Sisters like they don't even exist, especially when you have a massive numerical advantage, which the Guard always has. This means that a fully upgraded Guardsman squad with a commissar is inherently superior to a fully upgraded SoB Squad.
Really? I also upgrade the guardsmen with plasma guns and commissar and still SoB squads with havy bolters can easily outgun them (in a 1v1 context of course, with Basilisk and entrenched heavy weapons team It's a complete different story )
@@lucasbeck1391 I reckon that execution only improve damage output, problem was that the Heavy Bolters fire from much longer range so without the satellite aim research it's almost impossible reach them before getting the guardsmen slaughtered
Soulstorm will always be favorite. Best skirmish mode. Great maps, great mods, tons of races with different playstyles. Really really solid mode. I did enjoy campaign too.
IIRC, the baneblade thing actually has an explanation. It's the same reason that the Imperial Guard stronghold mission involves them actually producing baneblades. Apparently, the world they holed up on has a giant underground manufactorum that allows it to be one of the few places in the Imperium capable of making baneblades. So the hundred baneblades were shipped out because, well, as you said, what kind of front gets a hundred baneblades?
People think it's a forge world but it was actually a world on the way to becoming one but lacked population over the thousand years of stagnation. It was a world of hard metals meaning it was perfect for making heavy assault weapons like parts for titans and tanks.
One detail that always bothered me about Soulstorm was that the banter between the commanders in the campaign was gone, just like mentioned in the video. It was a really nice aspect in DC and added a lot of atmosphere to the campaign and character to the different command units. Especially Eliphas and Gorgutz were just awesome and hillariously funny.
In soulstorm I was playing as the IG and my friend was playing as the Space marines against CSM and I built nothing but heavy weapon teams. The match went on for 3 hours because my friend did all the pushing while my men leap frog their way over providing excessive cover fire. I killed 3000 Chaos space marines and lost 400 guardsmen My friend killed 2000 and lost 1000 space marines I'm a tactical genius.
I'm gonna assume he was either the Imperial Fists for dying so much, or the Blood Angels for losing an entire chapter's worth of marines. (please don't hit me I love the Imperial Fists)
7:35 You could just split your forces to attack two shrines at once... and if it came down to the last one, go for the HQ to distract the saint from the shrine. Needless to say, the Tau has arguably the easiest time conquering Kaurava even on hard difficulity.
That is what I did, but its still exploiting the way AI spawn via line-of-sight in the game. I feel like if you're making a game you don't want to display how archaic the engine was at that point so clearly.
AI spawn via line of sight? Could you elaborate? As far as I know, the Saint just dropped down whenever a shrine took damage with some seraphim squads on the affected shrine later on. How does the engine play into this? All I can really complain in the DoWs of old is the awful pathing which impacts how larger armies handle, which ultimately favours smaller forces/longer weapon ranges.
Dual Wield From what I could tell the Saint was spawning before I had even begun to fire on the statue, instead doing so as I approached to get my weapons in range. I didn't have great footage to show it since I tend to record quite sparsely to prevent clogging up my hard drive.
That's odd. For me, it was always right after the shrine lost hp. She goes "Avaunt infidels!" or something else and spawns. Without that, I can practically stand next to the shrine on hold fire. (just checked, army next to shrine, no saint) While checking, I remembered HOw You Didn't BRING UP SOulStORM's NArrATOR. It would've been a fun bit.

You bring up some good points, but for me soulstorm is my favorite. It has all the races and the balancing issues aren’t that big of a deal for me, but I totally see why others would be put off from it. Keep up the great content kitten!
I can safely say there is one good thing about Soulstorm: a VERY strong modding scene. Whether you want to play DoWpro, UA, or anything else, SS is the game for it. To say nothing of the many race mods compatable through Codex or Unification (if you don't mind not having 'nids). I mean, the TS Mod is enough to make me excited to play, massive fanboy that I am, especially given how kickass that mod is. Heck, the voicelines are so good that I'll forgive them allowing the Rubrics to say anything. *I am more a more... immediate tool of the architect of fate.*

The sisters of battle were really a cool army in 40k 3rd edition. Very adaptable, elite humans with space marine weapons and faith mecanic that made every unit able to deal with different situations. I was very happy seeing them at the time in soulstorm. Sad the game was unfinished. 😥

Gosh, I remember growing up watching my Dad play these games and then playing them myself. I just used to main Dark Crusade and Soulstorm when I was little (which I was terrible at them), but when I got older, I went back and played Dawn of War and Winter Assault; played through all the Skirmish maps while slowly increasing the difficulty. It was rather fun seeing how the games evolved over the expansions. I must say, if you want a mosh pit, the 6-Player map Mortis is amazing.
I hope one day, I will one day see you take on the rest of the dawn of war series, Space marines, and pretty much all those 40k games that require the analysis and delicacy that is your smooth voice and hilarious jokes, for even after watching them 3 to 5 times each it happens after months that I just wish to watch those videos again.
The funny thing about Gorgutz not being voiced by the voice actor from WA and DC is that the same VA voiced units added in SS, like Barracuda for example.
Looking at it, the planets could've worked like this. Say you play a faction, you start on one planet. The planet is front and center on the screen. On it, you have your territories, a few factions duking it out and one enemy stronghold. After conquering the planet, or by conquering the planets spaceport, you are then given the option of invading another planet, where the screen shifts to that planet. So that way, you can actually tell what the hell is actually going on.
man, it's been so long that I discovered this guy, forgot about him, then over a year later, discovered him AGAIN, rinse and repeat again. it's depressing when you find a good channel only to find it dead, and i've gone through that three times with this one guy lol
I think the version of Thunderpsyker that made videos is still lost in the warp and we got back an alternate one that uses his comedic powers for voice acting and swindling chocolate biscuits from the Custodes lunch room. That last part is conjecture.

Many thanks for the Reviews my friend, watched all the reviews for a second time, Hyped to see Dow2 series, and also on Elite Mod (My home planet, ). I gotta say i kinda expected 7/10 on SS tbf, since Multiplayer balance is actually good, has also the highest player base in steam charts in comparison to other games in the series, plus its only 5$ . I know campaign,story,Flier units etc are awful; but still, Dow series are magnificent ;^D (except a franchise killer called DOW3 which is HERESY!!!!!)

The Funniest thing about the Sister's infantry is that despite being classified as Heavy Infantry, it generally has very low health. this means that if you equip the majority of your guardsmen with nothing but plasma guns, you can go through the Sisters like they don't even exist, especially when you have a massive numerical advantage, which the Guard always has.
This means that a fully upgraded Guardsman squad with a commissar is inherently superior to a fully upgraded SoB Squad.
Really? I also upgrade the guardsmen with plasma guns and commissar and still SoB squads with havy bolters can easily outgun them (in a 1v1 context of course, with Basilisk and entrenched heavy weapons team It's a complete different story )

@@lucasbeck1391 I reckon that execution only improve damage output, problem was that the Heavy Bolters fire from much longer range so without the satellite aim research it's almost impossible reach them before getting the guardsmen slaughtered

Soulstorm will always be favorite. Best skirmish mode. Great maps, great mods, tons of races with different playstyles. Really really solid mode. I did enjoy campaign too.
IIRC, the baneblade thing actually has an explanation. It's the same reason that the Imperial Guard stronghold mission involves them actually producing baneblades. Apparently, the world they holed up on has a giant underground manufactorum that allows it to be one of the few places in the Imperium capable of making baneblades. So the hundred baneblades were shipped out because, well, as you said, what kind of front gets a hundred baneblades?
People think it's a forge world but it was actually a world on the way to becoming one but lacked population over the thousand years of stagnation.
It was a world of hard metals meaning it was perfect for making heavy assault weapons like parts for titans and tanks.
One detail that always bothered me about Soulstorm was that the banter between the commanders in the campaign was gone, just like mentioned in the video. It was a really nice aspect in DC and added a lot of atmosphere to the campaign and character to the different command units. Especially Eliphas and Gorgutz were just awesome and hillariously funny.
Which is a bit sad really, you thought someone would make mod for it but damn....

As somebody who loved Dark Eldar since 3rd edition tabletop, but always felt like they were WOEFULLY underrepresented, I freaking LOVED Soulstorm.

In soulstorm I was playing as the IG and my friend was playing as the Space marines against CSM and I built nothing but heavy weapon teams.
The match went on for 3 hours because my friend did all the pushing while my men leap frog their way over providing excessive cover fire.
I killed 3000 Chaos space marines and lost 400 guardsmen
My friend killed 2000 and lost 1000 space marines
I'm a tactical genius.
I'm gonna assume he was either the Imperial Fists for dying so much, or the Blood Angels for losing an entire chapter's worth of marines.

That is what I did, but its still exploiting the way AI spawn via line-of-sight in the game. I feel like if you're making a game you don't want to display how archaic the engine was at that point so clearly.
AI spawn via line of sight? Could you elaborate? As far as I know, the Saint just dropped down whenever a shrine took damage with some seraphim squads on the affected shrine later on. How does the engine play into this?
All I can really complain in the DoWs of old is the awful pathing which impacts how larger armies handle, which ultimately favours smaller forces/longer weapon ranges.
Dual Wield From what I could tell the Saint was spawning before I had even begun to fire on the statue, instead doing so as I approached to get my weapons in range.
I didn't have great footage to show it since I tend to record quite sparsely to prevent clogging up my hard drive.
That's odd. For me, it was always right after the shrine lost hp. She goes "Avaunt infidels!" or something else and spawns. Without that, I can practically stand next to the shrine on hold fire. (just checked, army next to shrine, no saint)
While checking, I remembered HOw You Didn't BRING UP SOulStORM's NArrATOR. It would've been a fun bit.

How did it took that long? I also played as the Guard and sure it took a while but 6 hours? I beat the campaign in about 20 hours.
You can press delete to kill your units and buildings.

Good grief, this shouldn't have taken so long. People sometimes consider comments that keep asking for the next video to be pretty annoying, but I find they're actually pretty good at kicking me into gear (so long as they aren't too frequent.)

IIRC you said you'd be doing Dawn of War II. If so do you intend to do Chaos Rising in the same video as II? Don't think it really has enough content for a standalone review.
This was my favorite expansion only because I was a Dark Eldar player and this expansion was the first attention DE received since 3rd edition 40k.
You bring up some good points, but for me soulstorm is my favorite. It has all the races and the balancing issues aren’t that big of a deal for me, but I totally see why others would be put off from it. Keep up the great content kitten!

OOOHH MAN, THE ULTIMATE APOCALYPSE MAN HIMSELF!
I can safely say there is one good thing about Soulstorm: a VERY strong modding scene. Whether you want to play DoWpro, UA, or anything else, SS is the game for it. To say nothing of the many race mods compatable through Codex or Unification (if you don't mind not having 'nids). I mean, the TS Mod is enough to make me excited to play, massive fanboy that I am, especially given how kickass that mod is. Heck, the voicelines are so good that I'll forgive them allowing the Rubrics to say anything.

The sisters of battle were really a cool army in 40k 3rd edition. Very adaptable, elite humans with space marine weapons and faith mecanic that made every unit able to deal with different situations. I was very happy seeing them at the time in soulstorm. Sad the game was unfinished. 😥

Get ultimate apocalypse Mod for Soul storm
Gosh, I remember growing up watching my Dad play these games and then playing them myself. I just used to main Dark Crusade and Soulstorm when I was little (which I was terrible at them), but when I got older, I went back and played Dawn of War and Winter Assault; played through all the Skirmish maps while slowly increasing the difficulty. It was rather fun seeing how the games evolved over the expansions. I must say, if you want a mosh pit, the 6-Player map Mortis is amazing.
I hope one day, I will one day see you take on the rest of the dawn of war series, Space marines, and pretty much all those 40k games that require the analysis and delicacy that is your smooth voice and hilarious jokes, for even after watching them 3 to 5 times each it happens after months that I just wish to watch those videos again.

The funny thing about Gorgutz not being voiced by the voice actor from WA and DC is that the same VA voiced units added in SS, like Barracuda for example.
Looking at it, the planets could've worked like this. Say you play a faction, you start on one planet. The planet is front and center on the screen. On it, you have your territories, a few factions duking it out and one enemy stronghold. After conquering the planet, or by conquering the planets spaceport, you are then given the option of invading another planet, where the screen shifts to that planet. So that way, you can actually tell what the hell is actually going on.
This is a good and simple idea. Wonder how they missed it?

This is one of my favorite in the series, regardless of some half-hashy reviewers rant.
I think the version of Thunderpsyker that made videos is still lost in the warp and we got back an alternate one that uses his comedic powers for voice acting and swindling chocolate biscuits from the Custodes lunch room. That last part is conjecture.

I gotta say i kinda expected 7/10 on SS tbf, since Multiplayer balance is actually good, has also the highest player base in steam charts in comparison to
other games in the series, plus its only 5$ . I know campaign,story,Flier units etc are awful; but still, Dow series are magnificent ;^D (except a franchise killer called DOW3 which is HERESY!!!!!)

Scott McNeil didn't voice Boreale, they just used his force commander lines from Dark Crusade for skirmish.
Yeah this is something that there was a lot of misinformation on. I'm actually not sure if we ever did learn who voiced him in the end, since I don't know if he's credited? Maybe I'll have to investigate that someday.
