Best batty grape face EVVA!!!: this is Clawed

- Clawed is an adult male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was dropped off to me for assessment. He was found on the ground in a courtyard.
Initially, like so many newly rescued batties, he was cranky as, and wanted to turn me into confetti, but this was mostly cranky and not a pain response.
I decided to occupy his pointy bits with a grape or two to make friends and be able to have a look at him. Thus began a half hour odyssey with him as he decided to go for the record of how many grapes can be fitted into a batty mouth at any one time. It was the best batty grape face I have ever seen.
I started with one, which was snatched and attacked angrily, and proceeded until he was taking grapes happily and stuffing them into his mouth.
I'm not going to tell you how many grapes he actually fitted in, because I want you to find out for yourself, but it was a LOT. I was extremely surprised. I spent half an hour watching him stuff his face, awaiting the inevitable spat. It fascinated me so much I had to watch the entire process. I managed to cull the footage from half an hour down to 20 minutes eventually, but if you can't be bothered watching it all, skip forward until you can see the text on the screen as I count up the number of grapes.

He fitted some many into his mouth that his stuffed cheeks dragged his eyelids down so you could see the whites of his eyes.
This boy was fine, with just a bump on his head; he went back to his rescuer the next day, and as far as I know, he's fine in care and doing well a week later.
YAY, a very entertaining survivor.

"Attack of the Killer Bats"....to steal a title form like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" (a real film out in 1978. Had these growling tomatoes going after people). Hollywood does some weird stuff. This has to be one of my favorite videos I keep rewatching. The build-up of trust where he goes from "GET AWAY FROM ME" to "MORE GRAPES, MORE" is so funny and heartwarming.
I don't know how well they retain memory, but I hope Clawed will always remember the time a giant gave him that many grapes.

This was so cute. I watched it twice!
My daughter (who has Asperger's) has loved these little creatures since she was four. We took her to see the butterflies but she preferred the fruit bats. Regularly visited while she stood in the dark enchanted by them. It appeared that they didn't mind her presence, swooping close round her.
It was great to get her to eat fruit too Clawed's puffed up cheeks reminded me of happy times.

In 2009 I went to Australia and visited a small zoo, and I was most excited about the dingos. I'm autistic and dogs/foxes/wolves are my special interest. When we got to the dingos, my ex walked up to the mesh but they skulked around her growling all unsure and pacing. When I stood there, they came right up and sniffed the back of my hand and they crowded around curious. It was so very special to me!
So angry, soothing grapes to the rescue, and a big spat afterwards.

Alex, Clawed is in the driving seat here. He is choosing to take more grapes without doing a spat along the way. He's in control of what he has in his mouth and whether or not he's going to do a spat. He's an adult male and in perfect control of his actions.
@@coinkydink3984 I think the grape farmers would be to greedy to let some bats eat any of their grapes and either kill or scare them away... so sad I wish they would think of other animals too .. so sad I wish they would think of other animals all over too!

He'd been hanging around in a backyard for a day or 2 so he was hungry and thirsty. Bats need more sugars than most animals - they have a fast metabolism and usage of the nutrients, and glucose helps the cells during shock.
I do get the feeling that Clawed might like a grape or two, occasionally.

I am houston, texas, and at present, we have no air conditioning. I have been surviving by going out every day, and purchasing from 60-130 pounds of ice, and sitting in a very cool bath all day and most of the night.
You and that sweet boy made this afternoon much less terrible. I cannot believe I watched every single moment, even rolling back to rewatch a few minutes, to be sure I understood what I was seeing. Hahahahaha! THANK YOU!

When it's hot and I can't turn on the aircon, I sit with multiple fans. If you have ice, blow the fans across the ice and it will cool you down.
Or go to a shopping mall for the day.
Night times without aircon are a nightmare though if it's too hot.
My birds live on my balcony during the day because it's netted in and they have room to fly and play and climb around, but the aircon vents onto the balcony, which means it's too hot on the balcony if I use the aircon during the day on an already hot day. And if I have the birds inside they have to be in their cage, because they're not in any way helpful if they're loose in the apartment (Babylon the Evil Bastard likes to chew cords) - so I tend not to use the aircon during the day, which means I have to survive with multiple fans and lots of grizzling.
