The fact that J-cole has always been one of Hobi's biggest inspiration since his trainee's days, he was so starstruck when he got to meet him and now He's got J Cole featuring on his song, his last song before going to the military no less. He's come full circle and I'm so unbelievably happy for him.

yeah and also you can see how much respect j hope has to J. Cole he gave most of the verses to J. Cole for his own song and also the music video is filmed in the same location as J. not sure ifi you guys read comments but as i know you've already heard a bunch of times, hip-hop is fundamental to bts and their musical origins. they are incredibly well-versed in the genre and have always been respectful artists. this song was extremely sentimental for armys not only because of hobi's message but simply because we know how much hobi looks up to j-cole. in his documentary on disney when the two meet for the first time, hobi tells j-cole, "you're my muse." when you guys get around to hip-hop phile you'll see a bit more of this

J-Hope composed and wrote the Song and his Producer Pdogg did the Mix. They got Jermaine's lines, 4 days before they shot the Music Video, J-Hope wrote the Song back in November. Some Easter Eggs and Info: On the Billboard is the Chicken Noodle Soup Car, and the Words ''It's my Call'' and he is walking the Streets, that J Cole walked in his Debut Music Video Simba. Hobi is wearing Military Dog Tags. Hobi used to dance to J Cole's Songs when he was still a Street Dancer, and after a listen to Friday Night Lights, he started writing songs and making his own Beats. He even named his first Mix Tape Hope-World after Cole-World, and his name is a play on J-Coles Name. That's also the reason he gave Jermaine so many bars in his Song, to represent his walk on the streets from where he started and to now, joining J Cole on Top of the Roof.

Ah I’m so unbelievably proud of Hobi 😭💜 He’s come so far from mere street dancing and hours on end of dance practices with J-Cole music serving as one of his only motivation. The video describes such a grandiose journey in the simplest of ways and you get struck with how much gratitude Hobi has for J-Cole. I’ll miss him so much, he really is the energy that keeps so many of us going, including the members. I’m so happy he got to make a song with his muse, all the more bittersweet I think.

I LOVE how while J Cole’s verse is so deeply personal it’s also applicable to J-hope/BTS’ story (long comment incoming 😂):
His whole 1st verse is rooted in biblical themes but is actually just a metaphor for J Cole’s journey. From escaping incredible poverty (surviving hell) he’s grinded for years selling incredibly introspective and thought provoking lyrics (selling holy water, selling train of thought) doing everything he could to succeed and survive (fought tooth and nail just to prevail), to eventually rise to the top of the rap game (to make a couple mil' off a lucrative deal). All of that is what BTS experienced as well. Underground artists, near bankrupt idols that fought to better their lives and hone their craft by fighting against prejudice and continuing to write songs about issues that matter to them and their audience.
J Cole then goes on to talk abt his love for rap, how that’s all he’s ever known, and how at this point in his life he wonders if he should step away and hand over the crown or let his undying hunger and ambition continue to motivate him. J-hope (and RM and Suga for that matter) has said exactly the same thing in his 2 previous singles “More” and “Arson”
Both artists are reminiscing on the path that led them to their place now and wonder if they should leave on top or stay longer. I think J Cole’s line “like a father watching his daughter, Walk down the altar with tears in his eyes, You gotta let her grow” explains both their choice perfectly: both might step away for a while (letting the genre and their passions grow) but just like any loving father, they won’t be too far away and will step back in when the time is right.

Hobi’s verse in #on_the_street is deeper than many people think.
First, you have to know that the child in the mv is hobi. the kid is wearing Air Jordan 11s. Theyre the same pair Hobi owns now.
Air Jordans are also known as J’s so “J in the Air” is a play on the shoes.
Air Jordan’s (J’s) are significant bc j.cole mentions the shoes in his song “higher.”
Meeting j.cole at lolla, hobi mentioned to him that he loves his mixtape Friday Night Lights, especially Higher & Hobi found a genius way to add it into the lyrics and MV.
The child is wearing almost the same outfit as j.cole wears in the MV. This represents how much hobi idolized j.cole and found inspiration in him when he was young.
At the start, you see j-hope help kid-hobi put his earphones on, pat his head, shake his hand, and wave to him as they both set off walking down their paths. It’s almost feels like he was comforting and assuring his younger self.
Hobi’s verse starts “My two feet walk willingly, anywhere. J in the air”
Hobi sets off on a life path that leads him to his destination “j in the air”, represented at the end by him and jcole on the roof. This is where “J in the air” takes on another meaning.
He’s playing with the fact that they’re both J’s and they’re “in the air” now.
He gave us a hint at his lolla performance “you can call me J”
(also, “j in the air” is also a reference to his song Airplane which is about j-hope finding his success after so many hard trials.)
“For the path I’m on to become one of hope, I give my all. Even my walk was made of Your love and your faith.”
He’s talking about how he worked so hard and made many sacrifices to make sure that the path he willingly chose to follow, became successful.
he tells us that it’s bc of our love and faith that all his hard work came to fruition and is what made this path possible.
“To repay you even from afar, just like a butterfly”
He references BTS’s song Butterfly in this line.
His verse:“like a wind that gently strokes me, like a dust that gently drifts along, Youre there but for some reason, I cant reach you”
bc hes leaving for a while, he wishes to give this song as his message for us to always have & to comfort us while hes unable to be with us.
“Now, just walk lightly, whenever you want
Go on hopefully, wherever you walk
In these streets imbued with someones breath
I leave my soul and my eternity
    Everywhere (I’ll be)”
No matter what path we chose, he wants to always be with us to be our piece of peace.
“Every time I walk, Every time I run
Every time I move, As always, for us
Every time I look, Every time I love
Every time I hope, As always, for us”
He goes through the mv walking on his path. It shows him as a kid that was inspired by j.cole to him working hard throughout his youth practicing his love of street dance, to eventually climbing up from the bottom to finally reach his destination at the top where he meets and shakes the hand of the man who inspired him from the start.

I love it. J-Hope puts J.Cole up high on the roof (at the top), and him on the streets and underground in the subway paying homage to his street and underground roots (often freestyling and battling to J Cole's rap), and in the end, rises up to meet J.Cole (at the top) on the roof. Notice how J-Hope is freestyling to J Cole's verse just like he used to do when he was growing up.
    Genius!
J Cole is also giving a nod to the next up-and-coming rap generation. Interesting that he's done that with a South Korean rapper instead of a Western one.
The young boy in the beginning is a nod to Jin's astronaut where the little girl represents ARMY. Hear the young boy also represents ARMY.

Gonna watch video the for the first time on this reaction ! I'm excited. I'll update ya'll 😭
edit: ighh, i'm gonna cry now 🥹.
As growing up listening to J.Cole, being a black person and being immersed in my roots, he spoke volume and always bombarded me with feelings of self worth and confidence. He rapped like no other, there's no one like him for real.
Now my baby, J-Hope, I love him for this. He's so humble and grounded, even before this video I knew, and now watching this video I fell more in love with him. He never fohgets where he comes from and I love him more for that. This song fit him, his words hit home, I'm so proud of his accomplishments and his milestones he hit and moved past, as well as his future ones. Will miss him as well as the others that are after him. Until we see/connect/meet again

Don't forget to watch the official mv on the channel as well. Hope and Cole definitely deserve those views for all the work they put into making this masterpiece. Also, completely agree with you. J.Cole is just a lyrical genius. I'm not even religious like that but his verse got me really emotional. And Hobi? Ah, the man has so much heart I don't know how anyone could no adore him. It's a good thing he's a musician because he was made for surfing on the beat.

So proud of Hobi😭😭😭😭I'm literally just so touched!... Army's know better how much Hobi had to go through (okay both as BTS and HOBI as an individual). From not getting any letters and wanting to leave BTS because of all the hate, to being on a song with his primary inspiration will always be iconic!😭...I tried many times watching/listening to this song. I hope Hobi knows how much he's doing great, and how much he's loved!. I can't stand the pain of him temporarily leaving us. I'll probably act like a military wife, crying everyday wanting Hobi. WE WILL WAIT FOR YOU OPPA!

Imo y'all should start doing marathons of individual member songs and group songs, there are so many Hobi songs out there like Daydream, Ego, Trivia: Just Dance, Arson, More, Airplane pt.1 etc, all are such masterpieces, Hobi is known to express his love for music and dance through his songs so I think it will be better if y'all do marathons instead of watching a single mv, that way you can appreciate BTS and their diversity more.

Get to get to know more about Jhope and some fun facts:
Fun Facts for those who don't know (I got this from another ARMY)
J.Cole is j-Hopes biggest influence/inspiration and muse. JHopes album "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Coles first album "Cole World". The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner". The Avirex fit jhope is wearing is also homage to J.Cole. The street jhope was on at the beginning is the SAME EXACT street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Coles verse is because jhope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day.. The visual easter eggs and homage paid to J.Cole in this by jhope is insane. Shows his genuine love for a GOAT like J.Cole.
    Now my knowledge and interpretation:
Jhope was a street dancer before he joined BTS. He learned to rap with RM and Suga (the other rappers in BTS who underground rappers before BTS were) his own persistence and listening to rappers like JCole and developed his own style.
In Hip Pop Phile by BTS during Jhope's verse he said, "Hope hope world, before I built my own world, there was Cole world | When he lit up Friday night, |I became more inspired to write my own music". I am so glad that he was able to collab with one of his role models or someone that has inspired him.
This is song is so beautiful. This is his gift to ARMY (fan base) before he has to leave for mandatory military service.
Many people think the song kind of felt more like a JCole song, which I understand, but Jhope said before this was announced that he was "going back to the streets". So, I think that was the point. He is dancing more because that is what he did in the streets before BTS while listening to people like JCole. Now that Jhope has made it in his career his is able to meet/collab his muse. The music video shows Jhope's journey. At least that is my interpretation.
I interpret the little boy two different ways. 1. being ARMY 2. himself in the past

There are many ways to rap, but the style of raping does not change the genre from rap music. J Cole is a conscious rapper (raps lyrics that make people think, reflect, ask questions, talk about real life ), so that is why he is one of my favorite rappers. Great collab, wish we could get a live performance of it.

Daniel and Gabriel should really give Jhope's Lollapalooza (especially the first half) a watch if anything for the first half for the live band who kills it. Maybe you've been reluctant because it's more on the hard side of music but maybe that will pique your interest. The second half is more light and he gets more into his dance and light hearted material for Summer and Abigail.

Summer didn’t seem like she was a huge fan of it. Whether it was the cursing or just bc it was rap in general. I really hope they can become a little more open to hip hop in general. If they don’t like the cursing then they will not like the cyphers, the solo songs like
Daechwita, Joke, Arson…. Not being rude but I hope they or maybe just she can become more open. You can just tell she was reserved in her opinion.

    • @ilovehotcheetofries
      @ilovehotcheetofries ปีที่แล้ว

Just a reminder that "becoming more open" to a genre you don't like isn't always that easy. Some people simply don't like the style, so they don't need to warm up to it, when BTS put so much effort into making something for everyone. That doesn't mean they don't appreciate it. You can bake somebody the perfect cake, but if they don't like the flavor, then they don't like it. (Not attacking, you sounded respectful, but I think sometimes the phrase "becoming open" is used to mean someone needs to start liking something, rather than just trying it out). And I think we should keep in mind CCW are adults, it isn't like they have never heard hiphop. If they know they don't like something, then I trust they know their taste.

Min Yoongi's birthday is next 9th. Will you celebrate it??
The same as Jimin with Taeyang, Suga with Epik High, RM with Erika Badu and Tablo, J-Hope is living his dream with J Cole. The "vintage" atmosphere in the streets is the way to "call" Hobi's past, when he used to dance J. Cole's songs. I loved the symbology: Cole on the roof and Hobi in the subway, but as the time is passing by, Hobi goes up till meet the lever of his idol....
I think that the boy at the beginning, like in the Astronaut, symbolizes A.R.M.Y. (the age of the children is about 10-12yo, the age of Army). I cried immediatly! Smiling with tears rolling down seems to be my future, everytime one of them says goodbye.... oh my heartu!!! hehehe
