What's beautiful is J-hope sets the table for J.Cole as he walks down to the underground subway and he stands there by himself, slowly putting his hoodie on like used to back in his street dancing days. While J.Cole is on the rooftop rapping, J-Hope is underground dancing to Cole's verse. In the end, J-Hope makes his way to the rooftop where he first saw J.Cole as a idol and greets him meaning he made it out of the underground and fought to become a great artist like his J.Cole. This was pure art, beauty, and hip hop.

Did you hear about the conversation between J COLE and J -Hope, Hobi told us about ? When he expressed he was sad that his English wasn't good enough to have a conversation with J Cole and that he was sorry and sad about that, and J Cole answered " you know much more words in english than I know in Korean " and how happy J-Hope was to hear that! well said. and J. Cole comes right back at Hobi with love and respect, recognizing that he has been a huge influence on this young man *and* marking him as a worthy contemporary/protégé/successor with the statement "j-hope, Cole World"-which we know is clever as it works in reverse also, with "J. Cole, Hope World."
I think Cole says those words to point that out: that Hobi has used Cole as *that* huge of a foundation, and now he's here with his hero for real and look how perfectly they fit together. he's really the real thing. it's such a cool way to give Hobi props.
just like you said, no bloated egos at all. I love it so much. I'm so so happy for Hobi 💜💜💜

    • @AMPrakugaki
      @AMPrakugaki ปีที่แล้ว +77

totally born from respect. and imho one of the meanings is so Hope can dance during Cole's verse, just like he did when he was learning to rap, learning and falling in love in hip hop. I think he's collabing through his dance there, showing his path as an artist while letting the man he respects in the genre guide him.

Cole lyrics with J-hope dance. Take the train from one station and get off at J station. Then, finally back on the rooftop, the video ends with J-Hope meeting the idol he was inspired by and showing his love. I really enjoyed breaking down barriers with this kind of collaboration.”_

@@SY-fp6ng I'm not talking about blame as with regards to fault. It's blame with regards to responsibility over his lines. It's a fact that Snoop didn't have much to work with in BD. It's a very short, summer bop focused on catchy melody. Then you brought up CG and said he had much less to work with there implying Snoop had creative control over how much or how little or how good or bad his lines are going to be. But he don't. BD is not his song, and the song itself don't allow much for creative freedom. Your first comment implies Snoop didn't try his best with BD unlike J Cole, but you don't know that. On the street is a different song from BD and it's unfair to compare Snoop's work on it to Cole's on OTS. Whereas on the street is structured such that Cole can tell his life story and leave deep messages there and it works. BD is simply not it.

I didn't cry at the Astronaut... I didn't even cry when JHope announced he was starting the process to remove the hold on Military service bc I was happy he got to enjoy all that Jack in the Box brought to him... I heard this song and I heard Hobi and JCole with that duet, and I already had goosebumps from JCole's verse, and tears started to fall.
I think JCole asked him "how many bars you want on this?" and hobi said "write what you think it needs." Someone said that he gave him up to 32 bars for it and I feel like JCole used all that bc he thought it needed all of it to say what he wanted to say and add to the song. I won't lie... I am not a huge JCole fan but I know his lyrics hit hard and ring true, and I feel like, what Blaze said, that was him giving respect to Hobi, not taking anything away but adding his deep and meaningful lyrics to our boy's song. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

For me, hella symbolism throughout. J-Hope saying "Everytime I walk, run, look love it's always for us" he could also he talking about his members. How committed he has been to them and what they've built. Bangtan Eternal!!
Also J-Hope during J.Coles verse is back to his time as a street dancer when J. Coles music was his inspiration.
The fact they shot this MV in NYC the birthplace of Rap/Hip Hop is hella symbolic.
Last and this is a stretch, but the rooftop they're on is in Brooklyn NY, which is a smaller borough that makes up NYC. From the roof you can see Manhattan, which many people see as being NYC. They both come from smaller cities, respectively, and now looking towards one of the largest cites in the world as global artist.
The lyrics, the MV, the collab, all of it is hella symbolic!!!

I found JCole from BTS and I love him since he's amazing too, aside from Eminem, I appreciate JCole after Born Singer and more now with Jhope, Jhope giving him more verse to honor him, Jcole posted in IG saying is it okay for him to say Jcole Hyung?💜💕 So cute and sweet.

just like Blaze said, this song was everything and you can't say you didn't get what you wanted. J. Cole understood the assignment. he came at it with a huge HUGE amount of respect and love. anyone who's familiar with hip-hop will see it.

.....someone don't know how to park.
This song was perfection. It couldn't have been better. This was my first time hearing J.Cole and his flow matched so well with J-Hope's. I loved how he spoke of God with no apologies. You don't see that very often on a non-Christian track. Hobi's cadence when he said "Even my walk was made of your love and your faith" ...so good.

i believe the kid in this mv symbolized jhope when he was a child because the kid is wearing what jcole is wearing in the mv. so to me its showing how much jcole inspired jhope when he was younger and how much cole was a part of his life while he was growing up and dancing. and now jhope is still able to dance to his muse, now on his own song. hence “on the street, i’m still”

  • @TaygetaBlue

Thank you for explaining why it matters so much that J Cole was given that amount of time on the song. A layperson like me would not know that otherwise. It's funny because I could feel the mutual respect energetically, but didn't have a reference point beyond that. You helped enlighten me! You guys rock, and as always I enjoy your reactions! 💜💜💜

I loved this song! It is so beautiful and they both crushed it! So many emotions...I am so happy that JHope got to work with JCole since he is such an inspiration for him. I am so impressed with JCole's lyricism. His words were so deep and from the heart. I am so grateful that JHope is always there with a message of love and courage to soothe everyone who listens to his music. And of course there is also sadness knowing he is leaving soon and worry about him being in the military. But JHope has always shown us how strong he is and I'll be listening to this gift they gave us while counting the days until his return.

And to see it and be part of it just give us a scene of joy and gratitude. Also he puts j.cole up high on the roof, and him on the streets and underground in the subway. showing homage to everything that made him, and in the end, rises up to meet j.cole on the roof 😭😭😭😭

That whistle is from Jhope himself, he often whistle the melodies of the songs he listens to. He was home thinking what kind of music to make and he just randomly blew a whistle and that just became the melody for On The Street
Also while J.Cole raps on the rooftop, Hobi dances in the subway (Hobi was a street dancer before joining BTS). It's the way Hobi shows his great respect for Cole. While he was striving for his dream in the underground, Cole was already his icon, like his sky. Later Hobi gets out of the underground and goes up to the rooftop and meets Cole, meaning Hobi became a great artist himself like his icon and got to work together with him finally. You see Hobi dancing during J.Cole his verse, cause there is where Hope his roots is. Dancing on songs of J.Cole and a lot of icons.
The video opens in the same NYC alley that J.Cole’s Simba video opens. It’s a tribute song.

I was Waiting for your reaction.
Alway love your reaction for hobi.
Here is behind story from hobi's interview
    ******
There’s a rather hypnotic whistle that drives “on the street (with J. Cole).” Whistling is as much of a form of communication as it is a biological instrument. What intent or message do you feel this sound relays?
Actually, you might find it funny but it doesn’t really have any special meaning. [Laughs] In a way, you could say the song began with me whistling as I often whistle the melodies of the songs I listen to. I was home dwelling on what kind of music to make and I just randomly blew a whistle and that just became the melody for “on the street (with J. Cole).” I instantly liked it, recorded it, and worked on the song with my producer. It came to me naturally, so I hope listeners would feel the same way about the song.
    *****
    Beautiful song.

I loved the song 🔥FINALLY HOPE WORLD MEETS COLE WORLD!!!! Without a doubt, my favorite part was when Jhope danced while J. Cole rapped because Hobi said he used to dance to his songs when he was young and to see him dance while collaborating on a special song for him with his idol...I got so emotional, I cried. Also when Hobi was finding his own style as a rapper J. Cole's style was his inspiration. When I saw the pictures of J. Cole at Lollapalooza it was like wow, he met his idol, and then with the images in his documentary "Jhope in the box" (Disney Channel) I really thought "I wish they would do a song together"🥺 but I didn't expect it, when I saw J. Cole in the mv teaser, I SCREAMED 😱, no one saw it coming! Thanks for your reaction💜

I actually wished you had even more to say and after you have time to mull it over, you could talk even more about it. One thing I was surprised about was when last summer I saw a photo of J Hope meeting J Cole. Three months after debut they performed Born Singer for the first time, it was finally approved for Proof last year, and they still hadn't met J Cole after coming to the US for many years now? All I can say it, it's about time! Props to Jay for getting up the nerve to contact J Cole to ask about collaboration on this special song. So meaningful to ARMY. Thanks, guys.
