    Thanks for uploading. I replaced the leaky gaskets on the intake manifold, distributor and "Spider" fuel injector (at 168K). Other than that my LU3 has been running very well. No AFM (thank God).

    not to be "that guy" but the LU3 (which is based on the small block 350/5.7L) was never equipped with active fuel management. The LV3 (2014+) which was a clean sheet design based on the newer LT engines uses AFM.

    This 4.3 with the sequential injection was great in some vehicles. Like an Astro/Safari or S10 Blazer or even the truck if it was RWD or at least a SWB. But it's predecessor with TBI injection wasn't much unless we're talking about a 3000 to 3300 pound vehicle or at the very most a full size truck in RWD only and most definitely with 3.73 gears. I actually prefer the Astros as long as it's 98 or newer and preferably the ?01 and newer with the larger brake calipers and rotors and the easy way to tell if it's the upgraded years is if it's the 5 lug or the 6 lug hub. You want the 6 lug. And I'm going to comment on the intake gaskets leaking. My 95 with the Dexcool (late 95) antifreeze lasted to about 140,000 before the problem started and three "best" garages couldn't find the issue even though I suggested it because I'd put a vacuum gauge on it and the needle was bouncing. They just threw money at it in other ways.. and I was too sick to do it myself. Pissed me off every time they'd cost me another 3-500 each time and nothing was better. I finally fixed it at 195,000 when I had an external and obvious antifreeze leak. But the replacement gaskets will last over a hundred thousand miles a pop if you know how to maintain a vehicle. If not, then all bets are off.

      I've had a '95 Safari, for the last 20yrs, w/over 200,000mi, and I would trust it to go anywhere.

    I have the 4.3 in my 92 Gmc typhoon and that damn ignition control module under the distributor cap fails so often because like you said it sits in a high heat area. I'm finally getting a aftermarket ecu conversion with maxxecu and we're replacing the distributor with the holley duel sync distributor. Truck runs great when it actually runs and has a ton of mods done before i purchased it. Its just un reliable due to the issues not related to the engine itself.

    I have a 98 S10 with the L35. I notice that if it rains really hard, she will have either a hard time starting, or not start at all. I'm chalking it up to the stock distributor. She will throw a code for random misfire, but once she gets to operation temp for a while, the code will go away because im guessing the moisture evaporates. I plan on replacing it will an all aluminum distributor on her next tune up.

    I'll be getting a hand me down 2003 Sierra with the 4.3L v6 rwd from my 90 yo dad who's only put 85k miles on it and perfect maintenance record. Only issue is his gas gauge doesn't work which seems to be fairly common. What version engine would his have so I'll know what to look out for?

      Sway - The best thing to do is to pull the VIN and run it through a VIN decoder, that will give you all the info you need. Let us know if you need assistance with this.

    I own a 96 vin x. If you lack power look at your inline filter. It will not show a code for it and use 87 octane (not 89 or 93). Tune it up (spark plugs, wires and distributor cap) just to be sure

    Just got a 2004 S10 4x4 4.3l. No idea how it’s been maintained but only has 120k miles. It’s super low on power and MPG seems way low as well. Not even 190 miles in a tank. What should I look at first?

      It's hard to pinpoint an exact spot to start since low power and low MPG is pretty generic but generally speaking it's probably something with air or fueling, could be a number of sensors or fueling components etc. but in any matter you should probably be getting some other symptoms or a CEL. Have you tried reading for codes?

      @@8020Media it had the classic P0171 and P0174 lean fuel trim codes I’m just learning it’s common. I cleared those codes and they haven’t come back yet after maybe 250+ miles driving around town. I replaced some vacuum hoses but not all yet. I sure hope it’s not the intake manifold gasket because that looks annoying.

    I love my chevy silverado 4.3 2005 .but the spider injector is not a good design 😕

    I will correct you. I own 94 Vortec 4300 V6 and picked her up new at the time, I own this truck today & drive it when I can. also, I also Own a 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 5.0 v8 love my trucks. I have to say older trucks run 100% better than new trucks. also, the new trucks have more problems than the old ones. my 1998 has 120,000 baby miles. , being 52 and a vet she was a gift from my girlfriend now wife. my wife drives her 09 Tahoe Police Interceptor with 9C1 (Chevrolet Police package).o7 Semper fi

    The GM 4.3L is a piece of crap engine. Stick with the 5.3 L or 6.2 L.
