      That would be awesome. Considering how reliable the 3800 series 2/3 blocks are. Richard Holdener is in process of doing a "Big Bang" test on the 3800. This is where he takes a junkyard motor, puts some ring gap in it, upgrades the springs and using different cams to see how much power the 3800 can handle. He'll also put head studs in. Subscribe to his channel. It would still be nice for these guys to do it, because they have a lot more resources and they could build the engine with forged pistons and rods. There is also a billet crank and main caps available for high rpm/boost applications. Along with aluminum heads.

    I would really love to see this turn into a higher compression (9.5:1-10.0:1), twin-turbo, higher displacement, fuel injected (without that asinine spider injection system that my Vortec 4.3 had) EcoBoost clone to see how much more power it is capable of making while still keeping it within safe levels. I really think that'd be a cool project to see. Then y'all can swap it into a cool S-10 Xtreme and make a road course truck.

    Absolutely loved that you guys are going to feature this engine. Unfortunately in Brazil we don't have easy access to V8s of any make (at least not in my budget range) but the GM 4.3L Vortec V6 and the Ford Cologne 4.0 V6 are somewhat accessible. I know you Americans love your carburetors, after all they do look nice and sound great, but I would hope you guys make this a Fuel Injected engine, preferably port injected (there's a 2003 model version of the 4.3 that doesn't use the spider style injectors) and LS Style Coil on plug for that nice "modern" look. Maybe a Syclone/Typhoon tribute engine for all turbo Junkies out here? Or just an everyman affordable build?

  • @OOOGrey_Bush
    @OOOGrey_Bush 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I never thought I would see you all build that engine. I always thought the 4.3 had a ton of potential because of the similarities it has with the 350. My 2006 short bed chevy has that same motor in it. I have often considered building it. I can't wait to see what you all do. As I understand it those little things actually have a strong bottom end and with a few tweeks like splayed main caps and hardened crank it can handle some power. The only issue's i saw was getting the air and fuel to feed it with limited after market support for that particular motor. I caught you mention the rods were 5.7" i think. I always wondered if you could or should swap those out for some 6" rods? What would the result be? Anyways, can't wait to see where this goes!

      @kenmaylin4744 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rods are not the same as a 350. The pistons are. The 4.3 rods have a bigger big end, and the rods are narrower. All of this is because of the split pin crank in the 4.3.

    I had this engine in a work truck and I loved it. At 110,000 the water pump let loose and I decided to change the timing chain while I was at it. Dumb move because till that date I had never timed it. I use Restore in all my oil changes and the result for this engine was that I did a compression test at the same time and the lowest psi was 185. When the truck went back on the road it had more power than when new. A month later the lower end let loose and I had to rebuild. Long story short, the same shop that services the Gator Nationals boys, right there in Gainesville FL, bored it out 30 over and put stock parts back in, that engine found crazy torque and a lot more HP. Great motor and BTW the shop said you could bore it out to 90. Have fun boys!!!

Whipple Auto rotor Opcon supercharger kits from late 90 are to rare but would be very cool. Twin turbo would be cool as well. Don't for get about manual trans behind. Love to row the gears. Otherwise I'm stuck looking for a bowtie block, an aftermarket one from a machine shop near me, or an old Nascar 4.3...

    Would really like to see what intakes and heads are out there for this. From what I've researched, it's pretty much either crazy expensive heads (circle track by Brodix, I think) or hog out the stockers which flow way better than stock but are still weak. I'm not sure if anyone even makes and intake for it other than sheet metal ones. I thought Eldebrock made a carb intake for it at one time. Maybe they still do.

    • @JT-SE-OHIO

      Great idea. I had a new 82 Eagle Sport with an automatic. The car was a blast but not enough power to spin a wheel even in snow, it would just GO. I have also had several of the 4.3's and loved them and always wanted to build one of them up but never thought of putting one in an Eagle. It would be interesting combo if the drive train will handle it. I had a pretty dark blue Eagle with gold stripes. It would go anywhere in rocker deep snow and also in the loose sand at Daytona, never had it off road in any deep mud, it was too nice to take a chance of messing up the body. The only 4X4 that I know of that came from the factory with white side wall tires! I think of that car every time we get a deep snow. Like many other cars I wish I still had it. I do still have a couple stock 4.3's, the best one being the 95 model vortex with the spider injection. The only trouble I've had with them is distributor caps and rotors.

      @@maximebeaudoin4013 Do you know why these v6's come with a balance shaft? Look into harmonics + resonance and how that affects RPM capabilities. Ditto valve train stability + intake design. (short summary, this particular engine is very hampered in that department).
      Also, curious what makes you think that because a pushrod V8 can be built to rev a V6 inherently can as well... does fewer pistons amount to more RPM in your mind? Like I said, with unlimited budget anything is possible. Just best not to use a 4.3 v6 as your starting point.
