China: The WHAT started rolling out? We don't have any of these "tanks" here. You seem confused. We can dispatch one of our polite agents to your location to correct your memory.
There were two students who were interviewed. Both students said that they want "democracy," "free speech," and "freedom." One student said, "We want dialogue with the government, but they do not expect too much." There is a picture of the First President of the Republic of China displayed in Tiananmen Square on this video. Sun Zhongshan is the founder of the Nationalist Party and the First President of the Republic of China. It was this political party that overthrew the last Qing Emperor of China, and started the short-lived Republic of China. The Nationalists were mostly young university students from upper middle class families who went to the US, England, France, ... to study and wanted a modern, republican, democracy for China. They fought for many years to overthrow the Qing Imperial System. The Nationalists succeeded in 1912 and defeated Puyi, the Qing Emperor. But the Imperial Feudal Lords of the Qing Era (China's warlords) still had their private armies which led to China's Warring State Period of the 20th century. Sun died in 1925 from a terminal illness. Sun knew that the Chinese Warlords and the Japanese Imperial Army had to be driven out of China. Before he died Sun appointed Chiang Kai-shek (Chinese Nationalist educated by Japanese Military Academy) to lead the Nationalist Party and stabilize China. And to establish the Republic of China based on the republican system where the representatives in government were elected. Chiang succeeded in defeating the warlords and was in the process of defeating the Chinese Communist Army. In 1934 Mao Zedong led the Chinese Communist Army to avoid annihilation and dashed up to Northern China. In 1932 the Japanese Imperial Army had conquered Northern China and reestablished the rule of Puyi, the last Qing Emperor defeated by the Sun's Chinese Nationalists in 1912. In Northern China Mao Zedong's Communist Army found refuge and protection under the Japanese Imperial Army. Mao Zedong's Communist Army rejuvenated itself under Japanese occupation. Chiang and the Nationalist Army would spend 1932 to 1945 fighting the Japanese Imperial Army. The Chinese National Army were depleted by the Imperial Japanese Army. After the defeat of Imperial Japan by the US in 1945 the Japanese Imperial Army returned to Japan. The rejuvenated Chinese Communist Army outnumbered the Chinese Nationalist Army. Stalin's Red Army displaced the Japanese Imperial Army from Northern China and North Korea. Stalin's Army was located in an ideal position to supply their Sino-Communist brethren with weapons and food. It was in Northern China where the Chinese Communist Army turned the tide and routed the Chinese National Army. At the time the United States was content with the defeat of NAZI Germany and Imperial Japan. Most American pilots, soldiers, and sailors wanted to go home. China was quickly lost to the Chinese Communist Army with aid and support from Stalin's Red Army in Northern China and North Korea. The hope for a republican government where you have the division of power between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches was lost. The hope for a representative government elected by the people was lost. The hope for the rule of law where the structure of governance is clearly defined by a written Constitution and where legal disputes are settled in an independent judicial system was lost. The Chinese Communist Party rules China the same way the Qing Emperor ruled China. The Chinese Communist Party makes the laws, controls the police, controls the military, appoints the judges, and outlaws other political parties. Needless to say the Chinese Communist Party controls everything in China. The Chinese Communist Party is not elected by popular vote. The Chinese Communist Party's Police, Army, Navy, and Air Force give the Chinese Communist Party the right to rule China. In the end, what Sun Zhongshan and the Chinese Nationalists try to create was defeated by the Chinese Communist Army.
I remember watching it, took over a month and half, grew from a few small spontaneous groups. Then everyone started coming. Wild to watch.
This was before the tanks started rolling out.

I was surprised they allowed what they allowed before. I thought you could not protest under communism.
They couldn't, there was a massacre, hundreds died, thousands disappeared, and they still are not allowed to talk about it in China.
You are free to do anything under Chinese communism. Just be ready to accept the consequences.
Once everyone comes together for freedom. Nobody can contain them
