I hope you find something useful and enjoy this movie! I am pleased with your feedback, advice and suggestions for improvement.
"Fully restored"? Well, I suppose quite a lot of marks for effort in unpromising surroundings, but not really clear what the point was of dismantling and reassembly. Too many steel hammers and drifts. No apparent measurement of alignment or wear. I only saw three bearings replaced, and these had the bejesus hammered out of them. Weird to paint (no filler or primer) after rebuilding rather than before (and two different colours?). The feed gearbox had been full of water but its repair, such as it was, seemed pointless given that the lathe had no apron, feed or leadscrews. Painting the chuck and the cross-slide top surface and vernier controls - why? Toolpost? Perhaps it came otherwise free, and was only going to be used for a single, very simple, task.
they painted the spindle nose, along with a bunch of other machined surfaces. That (useless anyway) end gear banjo needed to be pounded on to the shaft that was covered in a thick layer of paint. It's obvious they have no idea what they're doing. But maybe that was the point, do the worst possible job to encourage people to post comments.
It's obvious that you don't actually read these comments, just put a heart by each one. You did less with this restoration than most would have done if they were selling it.
How on earth did they manage to spread the dirt so evenly beforehand?😂
DON'T use steel chisels to dismantle machinery. They damage things. Aluminium drifts will cause no damage and are an essential part of any real engineer's toolkit.
AAAAHHH, the pleasure of watching others taking apart heavy machinery using only hammers and bare hands, driven by shear muscle power!
Why don't you clean inside gear case etc nor change the barrings which were obviously worn and in some cases had rust? In fact I wouldn't say you restore it at all just clean and paint. It's basically cosmetic.
There's GOTTA BE...burnt gear oil mixed with steel particles down in that shit from 1969, when it was broken in.🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, this was a disaster! They mine as well have just degreased the outside of the machine and paint it! That's basically all they did. I don't understand why go through the trouble of removing all the gears, spindle etc, and not clean out the gear case! And possibly prime and paint inside it, with some good paint that oil/grease won't eat through. I also can't believe they painted the Chuck! And other parts that should not have pain on them! They even painted the Chuck jaws! For crying out loud!!! Lol who does that??? Not to mention the paint scheme was an awful choice! They made it look like a cheap toy! Hahaha.
I wonder how long it will run before it gets all that crude in the gears that wasn’t cleaned out of the gear boxes. It seems a shame they didn’t clean all that gunk out.
Thank you for writing all that, I would have written the same, more or less, there's rebuilding, restoring, and overhauling, I would consider what he did overhauling, and you're right, if you're going to go to all that trouble, I would degrease,de rust, paint and replace all worn part's 😮 ! , otherwise it's not worth the time 😮 !
@@rapidfire-0680 yup. I agree
Restoration videos are capable of evoking feelings of nostalgia. They remind us of the craftsmanship and attention to detail in the past 👍👍👍
Exactly. What's worse we as a so-called intelligent species are forgetting HOW TO CREATE and make things from scratch or ingenuity.
It dont take much to impress you
Ja swarschiku ruku slomal by nakum
Thank you
Clean first! Then disassemble, check all gears, shafts, bearings, ETC and replace as needed. You add more dirt to the internal parts the way you did it. Why was the tail stock so new looking!
FIRST, brush clean the outside to avoid any dust and grit getting into gearbox etc when opened.
With such a disassembly, the bearings are changed in a mandatory manner, even if they seem normal (too laborious to replace bearings). The bed must be milled (as a rule, a significant development is formed in the center).
Why do you not clean it before you take it apart?
I ask the same question to.
Well, one thing I'm learning for sure from these restoration videos, is that unless you have the time, money, equipment, need and skills, it's better to buy new or gently used machinery. However, restoring machinery is for sure an enjoyable process 😉
The cross slide and the chuck should not be painted. Also the gearbox is clearly an oil bath type box. Why on earth are they putting grease on the gears and bearings. Without oil submersion, the gearbox will last no time at all. Clearly a bunch of amateurs with no real understanding of lathes or machinery.
*_Super-impressive, fascinating, satisfying, and just beautiful to watch. Great job!_*
Ironic?
Amazing video
It hurts to watch you bash in all those expensive precision parts and destroy them only to put a coat of paint over it
Magnificent job you did restoring that lathe to working order. You put in a lot of hard work and sweat to clean all that rust and dirt off. It looks much better too. Great work.
Thirty-seven minutes and twenty-six minutes of travesty upon travesty. I may never recover.
Restoring is not the word I would use, more of a disassembly, clean and reassemble.
After finishing, so noisy, means the most of bearings are worn-out. Also, gear teeth have the worn-out having gaps. The transmission gear box might be the type of filling machine oil that prevents noisy gearing sound and easy gear shifting.
Wonderful, i love Lathe.
I am amazed that he didn't wash the inside of the gearbox housing and change all the bearings. I am not impressed!!!
I don’t know if using an hammer is the best way to install ball bearings
Yhea well he's not really restoring it at all. Some of those barrings need changing, no ensuring the bed is level, no cleaning inside of anything not even inside the places tye axles go through. It's purely for looks just to sell it to someone who won't know how badly the restoration has been done. If I bought it I'd be really annoyed and it'd need taking apart again and doing right.
@@itarry4 It is exactly like that
that little flatbed truck looks so handy, why dont we have those here
Harmering every where, not cleaning the inside of gearbox ; Basic Knowledges you have to apply, ball bearing is very High presision mcanism .
As I'm watching the feed gearbox come apart I'm thinking to myself "that's never going to work properly again". At least that would be the scenario if I was the one doing it! 🤣
Didn't appear to be hooked up though, so probably moot. I enjoyed seeing the insides of one of these units.
Thanks!
Change the title to
"I make this lathe beauty again, and i dont care if it's work perfect or not. Just for content mate"
I am very happy to receive your feedback, advice and suggestions to improve myself more and more!!! Thanks for watching and supporting me. Thanks a lot!!!
Excelente!
Aw man,...this was painful to watch.
Should the lathe be used for drexing wood? Because important parts are still missing, e.g. the box under the support where the gear for longitudinal and lateral feed is located, as well as the pull and lead spindle (for thread cutting) as well as the on and off shaft, and the tool holder with small support (for that taper turning) I see something like that straight away because I come from machine tool construction (industrial mechanic - repair) and also work in that area
Nice work
I wouldn't want them working on my lathe.
This is not a restauration. The number 1 thing you need to do with a restauration is to check the wear on the bed/ways. Then grind/ scrape them in.
The fact that they didn't attempt to scrape in the bed ways was the best decision they made. Too many people have no idea how to scrape in a machine, and cause more damage. Its not just a matter of getting it flat, or even matching the mating surfaces, too often the geometry is changed by amateur "restorers" who don't have the proper tools to measure and correctly address bed wear. The result is just more added wear to the bed ways. Even if its "flat", it may have lost orientation.
With respect to some of the comments, even for restorations for anything, 90% IS cleaning off the grine to see what needs to be fixed. So its still a restoration since it was non-functional and missing some components.
Dikkat! Çekiç ile rulman takılmaz!
O rulmandan hayır gelmez!
The life expectancy of this lathe has just been dramatically shortened. It would have been better to thoroughly clean it, fill the oil and then change it a couple of times after shortly running it. I don't believe t has oil in it now, at least it doesn't sound like it does and having watched the disassembly and recently it looks like the oil feed from the sump no longer exists. Though I could be wrong about everything...
Lack of experience opening
No me gustó pudieron limpiarlo y pintarlo mejor
what are you restoring? i know at first glance it looks rust covered. but that lathe is in perfectly good condition, just blow the saw dust off of it.
I agree with@itarry4 this isn’t really a restoration project. More like dismantled cleaned up and put back together. No new bearings didn’t clean the inside when the gears were removed. And then just spray painted over with no primer. So give it 6to 12 months and it will start pealing . Granted no got the tools but a decent attempt
As good as new Gov, honest to God *fingers x-ed behind back*
Why didn't you clean the inside of the gear box
Muito bom
I am very happy to receive your feedback, advice and suggestions to improve myself more and more!!! Thanks for watching and supporting me. Thanks a lot!!!
#1 that is not an American Lathe, it is Chinese
Missing are the lead screw and feed screw, the apron, the second set of jaws for the chuck, the compound and tool post. It will never cut metal and appears to be used in a woodworking shop. He left out the oil pickup pipe for the pump and the key for the tapered chuck mount. It could be of limited value there because wood lathes use different chucks and generally have a larger swing.
You fix it with a lot of effort. You didn't clean the gearbox interior well and you should have put gear oil in it. Grease is not enough.
Restorasi?
Itu hanya membersihkan saja
Painful to watch. That headstock should be part filled with oil, the gears and bearings will quickly fail.
Very exciting new video with great work and new tools...good job guys...you are the best🛠️🛠️♥️♥️♥️👏👏👏
ужас
Beleza
Why would you even think of opening the gear box with all that crap still on the machine. It is like performing surgery in a pig pen. Not to mention the painful whacking of precision ground steel with steel hammer?
good job looks great
when you see the "brand new rust" you know it's gonna be bs
You should have just washed it or better still don’t put sand on your lathe in the first place
Why would start pulling it apart before you cleaned the outside? Basic common sense.
Nhìn làm chán. Toàn cắt video cụt lửng
👌
Way to much unnecessary work. Should of just hosed it down, cleaned the inside and added fresh gear oil and put it to use. Just saying!
Nice
Wasn't it suposed to be filled with SAE 90 oil?
This is NOT RESTORATION, it is a joke. No inspection and replacement of bearings, no lock wires replaced on location screws, using a large steel mallet on removing and replacing precision parts. Not cleaning the inside of the housings, painting over all external surfaces. Using a rebar chisel to remove parts. Basically you are committing fraud by stating that this is a restoration, it is an insult to the engineers that built the lathe originally. 👎👎👎👎👎
Waist of time
They would not touch any of my machines Ever nor would I buy a rusty screw from them.
American Tho !
Lagabunzia ertofia, sileprante!!
This was hard to watch, there is many areas of improvement to be learnt, if your not going to change bearings then learn to pack bearing with the grease and use bearing grease not general purpose. what about using Loctite on grub screws. you need to Lubricate gears.
learn to use proper tooling, if you cant buy, then make it.
like what other people said Clean everything.
You have skills, Don't do a 50% job.
It's a semi-pressure lubricated headstock. Pity they didn't use any lubricant.
How do you remember the correct order of all the gears?
Look back on the video
Video, still pics, and maintaining order on the bench while its coming apart. These old lathes have pretty simple gearboxes, both the headstock, and the feeds gearbox.
33;38 !!
It must take days to get that uniform rust over the whole machines.
