I don’t think the critics watched the same video as me. Your dial indicator at the end showed pretty much perfect precision. People just want to hate what they cannot do themselves to make themselves feel better about being unaccomplished and lazy. Good on you for bringing an old machine back to life and probably learning some new skills and techniques.
When you restore an old lathe, or any power tool, the first time you put it under power is MAGIC !! And then, you get to cut metal with it ! Very nice work, I am sure it will serve you very well for many years to come .
What a beautiful job you did restoring the old lathe to working order. It not only works like a charm but it also looks a lot better too. Excellent work.
Hello, I have one, lathe lookalike. Working condition . Lorch Schmidt & Co. With all reduction gear wheels. Used it last 60 years. What is the value ? 1940 ? Ex . Philips Eindhoven.
Brilliant job. That little lathe looked like it’s done a lot of work in the past and now will do a lot more. I really like the light blue paint you picked and making the handle with the ball ends by free hand was pretty clever too. Cheers, Stuart 🇦🇺
Very nice restoration of the lathe. Especially liked some of the component parts you made for the lathe, that was an exceptional piece of craftsmanship. Enjoyed this video immensely, thank you.
WELDING CAST IRON!!! 😂😂😂 you clearly know what you are doing!!! 😂😂😂 This is what gives all those stupid videos away as fake! People not knowing basic stuff
The bed also has heavy wear in the center. It must be milled. All older lathes have wear in the center of the bed. I would consider upgrading. Replace plain bearings with rolling bearings, make new shafts for this.
Right? And there was no effort shown to check the accuracy of the lathe afterwards… the machining channels I’m subscribed to, the operator is constantly checking their work to make sure they are getting the expected results as they turn whatever they’re working on.
I dont think almost any "lathe restorer" knows what they do. They call i a restauration but its onley cosmetic. In my oppinion the restauration is when you grind/scrape the bed/ways so it preformes as new. The paint has nothing to do with the restauration its just a final last touch.
@@fulfI also did a "restoration" on my 1919 lathe from Germany, but when I had to scrape the dovetails and align the headstock I completely gave up the entire hobby and sold everything 😂😂 it drove me insane
@@Renville80 He's also welding cast iron with MIG, which is a recipe for cracks. Weird how he's happy to slap bondo over everything but felt the need to weld up that little pit in the top slide?
Picked up an ancient Soutbend Junior lathe in about the same shape as this. (managed to source a tailstock). I'd say I'm halfway through, and your work has inspired me to keep pushing!
I also had an almost identical one before. It was the 0618 produced by China Tianyi. It was almost the same size as yours and the appearance was almost the same.

Utterly fabulous- Many thanks from France. That machine is so beautiful it should be on display somewhere.

Very nice restoration! Craftsmanship combined with an artistic eye! Enjoyed it very much.
I would LOVE to have a little lathe like this! Great job, you are a craftsman indeed!
You can buy a small one at harbor freight
@AB-ot3bc Just going to type that!. Probably the same maker.
What a beautiful machine ! I'm glad you didn't polish it to death. Amazing that parts are still available. Very nice project...
My kudos for the superior craftsmanship you displayed bringing this back to life. Thanks for sharing 😂

A first rate restoration. This was a pleasure to watch.

Great resto job, looks and runs great!
Wonderful restoration, looks really great.
Superb work it's gonna last years now, very useful addition to a workshop
As a retired machinist, I found the video very gratifying. I don’t care what the critics say, I would love to own that little thing.

Parabens pelo trrabalho, Muito bom mesmo !
What a GREAT job you did!!! A masterful restoration.
Looks amazing great job man.
Excelente trabalho
Wow you have some amazing skills. Awesome restoration, the lathe looks fantastic.
Looks to be a well made lathe worth the restore. Good job
You do beautiful work. Impressive restoration.
Very impressive work, beautiful lathe!.
Wooo these lathe is amazing!!
What a restoration, just like new. I too am reviewing these machines after restoration

I agree with Russell would love to have one great job
Great restoration and great video, the welding wasn't blindingly bright, and the machine noises weren't excessively loud.

Although the headstock and gearing are different, it looks like this is the basis from which the current Seig-type benchtop lathes was developed.
