The way they can tell a full circle story in one ep, with character we never seen blows my mind.
Haikyu is a way of life. It makes you a better person watching. If you want you can take away so much from this show. Why it a comfort show for many of us. Speaks to us on a deeper level then volleyball.
agreed, I love the morals this show promotes with its team comradery and life lessons on positive competitiveness
"tanaka looks good with a banana" always gets to ppl...yes, ooofcccc she was calling him a monkey!this is haikyuu ahahahhahah! Also, this ep is so masterfully made that has you despising the guy at first and by the end of the ep. you have forgotten all about it and you actually feel bad for the opposing team. Their captain is a such a great leader, the lessons never stop in this one...
during the bathroom scene, guy sounded defeated when he said "everyone gets crushed by shiratorizawa" because in their interhigh prelims they got crushed by shiratorizawa 2:0 with 2nd set being 25:6 which is INSANE
So when he says that to hinata he does it because he experienced it first hand
Also fun fact, if season 1 when we first learn about shiratorizawa you can see ushijima scoring the winning point agaisnt this team in prelims
The writing is always my favorite part of this show, how we can go from just a random person to caring about this team and feeling for them so quickly is a testament to how this show has us look at players.
Also, really do appreciate halftime, reminders to drink/eat/take care of ourselves are so important.

"A banana suits Tanaka" is probably a more accurate translation, but you got the idea of it just fine! Most people read waaaaaaaay too much into that little throw-away gag.

Kiyoko is saying Tanka looks like a monkey. It is clearer in the dub she says something like the banana suits him lol. I tried to find the clip but can't find the dub online :( I have seen so many reactor to the sub sideeyeing the translation they used. Apparently the word she uses has more of a meaning of goes well with or suits than looks good.
I like this match so much. It is sad (but probably good for our boys) that the realization that they have to fight to have a chance to win is too late in the second set.
Love your content, it was a great reward for waking up at 4:30 on a Sunday for no real reason. Hate insomnia but love that I got to watch this before my busy day began!
Lachy, it's okay about the comments. I'm sure, or rather I hope, no one will hold a grudge about it. Being a content creator probably has so many things to manage that I don't even know, so it's hard to keep up with everything. Be sure to take breaks too, I follow a LOT of reaction channels, it's my favorite type of content, and the things I see the most are people who have a hectic uploading schedule feeling the burn out after a while - TH-cam can be very demanding. TAKE CARE SO DAICHI WILL BE PROUD. ☝️

IDK how much you know about the world of authorship and publishing, but it is absolutely brutal. Rejections are normal and even expected. After two years of improving and still getting constantly rejected, I was ready to throw in the towel and leave it as an inevitable regret. You might be the first one to get the Shimizu mistranslation of "banana suits him" and understand she meants as in a monkey. Respect how you didn't even think about shipping them or having anything romantic.
It's always baffling how good the characterization of side characters is, you can't help but sympathize with them, helps also how humble and dedicated our boys are!
Also the way they worked around the copyright of mentioning Hello Kitty and Pikachu is always a fun segment!
Haikyuu is so good at showing characters reflecting on both their losses and their wins
So... Oghi Minami is the team Shiratorizawa completely obliterated last tournament - you can actually hear the scores being read out on TV after Karasuno comes to watch their victory over Date Tech so its been set up since S1 :P
"Lets make some memories" that the guy says is a common way to think about sports in Japan. If you dont think you can win the whole thing (so 85% of the people there) you are there to "make memories". It is also what Kageyama asked Hinata before their game in season 1. "So why are you here, to make memories?"
I CANT BELIEVE YOU UNDERSTOOD THAT SHE IS CALLING TANAKA A MONKEY - I literally had a line to explain that written down and then got shocked you picked up on it - the way its translated is really bad and messes up the point. What she says is more along the lines of "A banana suits him". Everyone always considers it a weird compliment.
It does end up getting explained in the episode itself but hq is so good for showing so succinctly why the Ohgiminami guy would be feeling so pessimistic after what his team experienced before
One of the best parts of Haikyuu is the weird feeling you get when the anime makes you love the other team and make you want them to win. It's a shame we didn't get spinoff animes featuring other teams, because they all have great potential!

"Don't be afraid of failing" has been, and still is, my biggest challenge. In school it was easy to handle/avoid cuz as long as I studied a lot, I got the result I wanted. Work life, very different. Which is why even if it might seem weird, Haikyuu and and your reaction videos where you promote so many positive ways of thinking, has inspired me in my personal goals as well.

lachy, ive been silently catching up to your haikyuu reactions since recently becoming obsessed with the show myself. as someone who constantly struggles with self esteem issues your confidence is absolutely infectious and it makes me feel like i could do anything if i set my mind to it. just wanna take some time to thank you for your content
Don't worry, you don't sound 'preachy'. The things you talk about are actually very motivating for me, as is Haikyuu. I started watching the show years ago when i was still in school. Back then everything felt kinda muted and nothing really made me feel excited, hyped or just in the mood to do something, except for Haikyuu. Every time i watched these boys work to be better at something they love, made me feel so pumped and gave me a lot of ideas of stuff that i could do but i never actually did anything. Fast forward a couple years, finding this channel with your Takeda-sensei wisdom and watching the Haikyuu movie motivated me enough to get over my fear of failure and actually do something. Signed up for training and had my first beginner volleyball practice a couple days ago. I love it and i can't remember a time in these past 5 years when i was happier and filled with the will to do something than i am now. The 2 biggest reasons for that are this show and you
I've been into anime for so many years and watched a few sport animes but I was never interested in any of them. I discovered Haikyuu because of Facebook and I didn't know how much I'll love it. Now is no only my favorite anime of all, is also the reason why I start my own small business. Haikyuu is my happy place❤ I love how much you enjoy this show and share it with us😊
Every episode of Haikyuu has the potential to be the favorite episode, I think, because it is just. that. good. I mean, I think it's writing like this that makes it such a favorite show, because how can one pick just one episode when they all deliver, and build off each other to create something so special, that reaches far past the sport to move everyone who watches it?
I love all your commentary during the episode, especially when you find things in the show to relate to yourself and us as viewers. Sometimes it takes hearing someone else saying it to feel and understand things about ourselves. Your messages are always so uplifting, so empowering, and I know for me at least, I appreciate them. What you said in this episode about not waiting to try something new, to not be afraid of the "no"s, to not be paralyzed by fear of rejection really resonated for me. I have been operating from that place in my everyday life lately, and hearing you talk about it made me realize that. So I'm going to work on being braver and being more true to myself, because if people are going to reject me, I'd rather it be for my authentic self than to be accepted for an inauthentic version. And I'll comment about it when I do, just to give myself that little extra bit of motivation and accountability.
Also it's totally understandable about not getting to every comment like before. Your channel is really taking off and you're producing content so consistently, which means more engagement. Just the fact that you go through and like the comments is more than most others do, and it's just nice to know you're reading the comments. Cheering you on like you cheer us on every day!

The godly figure thing is so relatable, When i first started (2yrs ago) i was a complete newbie and i saw this guy my age who was so so good and i remember asking my older teammate who that was, and i thought of him as exactly that, a godly figure for at least 1 to 1 and ahalf years. But fast forward to now in beggining of 2024, and i was placed at the same regional team in our country, whom we won the whole regional championship with. I remember i had to swallow the admirement i had for him and play with him as a human aswell

I do had a regret in high school. dunno I already sharing this on your channel or not.
But I was very salty about I was not even in regulars eventho I was officially a volleyclub member at my school back then.
Actually I'm not even mad if the person who fill my position is other person. But my teacher back then choosing someone who actually bully me at high school, just because he was taller and had good sport talent (he was starter in basketball team).
Thats the one who make me soooo salty and I choose to leave the team for good (my naive think back then).
I was only 168cm (back then), I good at serving (self proclaimed), my teacher probably want make me as pinch server maybe, but I'm not even come to the practice after he choose that bully over me.
after I watch Haikyuu, i feel regret why I'm not more invest on volleyball back then, why I'm not trying more etc.
Until today, I still hate that bully, still pray he got miserable life, but it is what it is.
Past cannot be changed,
right now I just focus on my family and my job in general, doing some hobbies, and living hopefully (and trying to) without regret.
Suggestion after watching Haikyuu: Run With The Wind. There's a line that might resonate with you in it. It's the spiritual successor to Haikyuu and is almost like Haikyuu in college.

Let me be that one negative guy in this comment section. I'm a pessimist, and it doesn't help that I've reached rock bottom in life currently either. I know sport people have this tendency to be like a motivational speaker emitting positivity and "keep going" and some stuff. I have an overwhelming negativity that stopped me from doing anything new and risky. Sure there can be baby steps towards something but it's unlikely that I made significant changes on chasing my dream or some shit. I already foreseeing my death without achieving anything.

I personally don't think I'll do anything grand in my life either, BUT that doesn't stop me from having small dreams. Those dreams to me are small, but because I want them they are meaningful to me. That would be the advice that i would want to give you; make yourself small goals for you to try and reach every day. Really easy things that'll probably amount to nothing but be very helpful: go outside for like 30 seconds of sunlight. drink 1 more glass of water than normal, open that assignment you're too scared to open a day earlier than normal (idk if ur in school or not). At the end of the day, we are all human. We live and we die. But the only one who can give your life meaning is u.
I'm no motivational speaker so I hope what I wrote here wasn't too cheesy. If u do read this (or to anyone that reads this) i hope something comes from it.

I practiced basketball for most of my school life. I was better then alot of the players who made the team, i know because we would play at lunch or P.E and i performed better. During my tryouts i hit 2 out of 10 free throws, pretty close to the lowest during tryouts. I lost my will and quit my tryouts. A couple days later, the coach asked where i went. I could tell he was disappointed. I looked lame one time and quit. I regret it alot still.
Sorry for all the "i" you really made me relfect on my failure because "I" love basketball.
