"We won even without a fujikujira" is a joke from the previous episode. they were discussing the difference between Hinata's height and that two-meter guy and said that it is equal to a fujikujira (a kind of shark)
I'm waiting for the next episodes sooo much, the second half of season 2 is probably my favourite part of the whole show! the day that starts with your haikyuu reaction is the best day

Just to clarify, The guy with the dyed blond hair (Terushima) didn't say they beat Shiratorizawa when Karasuno's name was brought up, he said
"If you've got the strength to beat Shiratorizawa, you can beat any school in the prefecture. simple as that"
He was basically saying that he didn't believe any other school in the prefecture could match Shiratorizawa so they only had to focus on them.

Hyakuzawa (the 2 meter tall guy) is another example of a character who you end up getting to know and like quite a lot within a single episode, even without the really emotional flashbacks that we got in the last episode. He's a first year, he's been pulled into the volleyball team only for his height, and he hasn't had the time to learn much (it's not clear what resources he even has to help him learn either) or care much. But he's doing his best for his team, and by the end of the match you can see him getting more excited and more committed to the sport--Ukai's right at the end, when he says this player's going to be a really scary opponent next year.
Exactly right, the thing that made me respect and appreciate his character is precisely because of the fact that you could see the shift in perspective for him, he began seeing the sport of volleyball in a new light and it made him hungry for more, to try harder and continue playing.
If you're paying attention you can see how he is no doubt going to become a scary player, not because of his physique but rather his change in mentality and the potential therein!
Hyakuzawa story line is super important for someone else's growth along with his own. So many long term payoffs in this series, its so rewarding to its fans.

The reason Hinata landed on his back on that last spike was because he decided mid air to hit high, and easiest way for him to do so was lean his whole body backwards to force that angle. If you see when he hits it, his body is leaning backwards, he just decided what to do mid air and that was the easiest way for him to accomplish his goal. As bad as it is landing like that, I loved the innovation he came up with in order to get it done.

I love watching you call out their plays before they happen cuz it reminds me of my dad doing the same thing when he watches baseball. It's a testament to how well you know the sport that you can see what's coming, and get even more hyped when it actually happens ^^

Yeah, I think this episode was a bit more volleyball focused than character, unlike the last match, but it was an important match for Karasuno because it shows how quickly they adapted to the unexpected challenge of a two-meter-tall blocker. That they turned it around so quickly, no one let intimidation take over their nerves is so important for them. Hinata getting the winning point off him too will help boost his confidence even more. Hinata and the rest if the team have grown so much, they don't get locked into one strategy but remain flexible.
Cannot wait for the prelims! It's tough going one episode at a time, but I actually like that you don't double up for Haikyuu, sometimes it's better to let the anticipation build! It also makes me think of when I was watching the show, I watched it while it aired, so I had no choice but to wait a week for the next one. The best things should not be rushed, and this show and your reactions are no exception!

Basically, the lower the number, the faster the tempo. And Hinata's tempo on the freak quick is so fast it's gone subzero. Hence, minus tempo.

The things you notice and break down regarding characters emotions, volleyball analysis and art, voice actors and animation critique is on point too. I enjoy binging your reactions so if you end up doing double episodes, especially in matches I think I'd lose my mind. Getting some water and snacks and watching your reactions are one of the few small joys in my life and I'm so grateful you do this. Btw I don't need you to respond, I like to comment to hopefully bring you joy from a positive message and also help your channel even in a little way. 3:00 Absolutely true. My son just graduated High School, and during club he would watch the other team, usually taller and more athletic, just pound balls and they would get nervous. Their own hitting lines were mediocre, and sometimes almost embarrassing. Then the game would start and you saw very quickly that one team was great, but only if they had a perfect pass, approach, and no block up. The other team was scrappy, thoughtful, and just made it work. If you judged on the hitting line, you would have never have guessed who would win.

- No fun facts from me, but I'm currently reading a book called "The Dawn of Everything" by David Graeber and David Wengrow. You know how dominant historical narratives tell us either that humans used to live “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short” lives (Thomas Hobbes) or that we used to live as equals but that was when we were hunter-gatherers (Jean-Jacques Rousseau)? This book proposes that our state of nature is actually more experimental and more creative than that and we can still create a better world if we rediscover our innate playfulness. It's a thesis that I can get behind and gives me so much hope.
I got halfway through The Dawn of Everything before the friend who I'd bought it for decided he actually wanted his birthday gift. It's great, I really need to go back and finish it!

Eyyyyt Terushima (the blonde guy at the end) is finally here !!! I love his character so much fckboi tendencies aside. The game against his school (Jozenji) is one of my absolute favourite games (although i would say that about all the games in the 2nd half of this season lmaooo) and it's such a comfort match. I rewatch it all the time.
About Hyakuzawa and being a beginner with an absolute physical weapon who still has so much room to improve all i have to say as a manga reader is "i know something that you don't😂😂''

I haven't been a true "athlete" or "competitor" since I was a preteen (I am now 36) and I immediately knew what was being implied the first time Kageyama did this. Totally agree with you on warming up spiking. It was said to a warming up, at the same to intimidate opponent (which i believe affect only to newbie ir first timer player). Like u said no blocker of course u can 'bam' the ball in addition the first ball usually pretty easy ball for setter ro toss. But in match they not necessarily got good receive 100%. Usually this time time around they actually giing up info about their attack pattern, (meaning habit that they will do during the match) . Just my 2 cents 😅

Also I think Hinata lands on his back cuz he angles himself beckwards to hit upwards instead of downwards, ruining his stability from the jump - it seems like something smaller players would have more issue with since their center of balance shifts more.

Hyakuzawa Yudai - Hyakuzawa can be split into the symbol for "hundred" or "many" and "swamp" - so a fairly normal name though I suspect that the first symbol is supposed to represent his increadible height.
Yudai is a combination of symbol for "hero" and "big" so in this case it represents him being the hero of his team as the main carry for the squad as well as once again his massive size.

19:26 I think the argument that I saw one time is that in real life, specially in the pro-scene, if they want a fast attack, first tempo is already fast enough,. Like, It's impossible to do what Kageyama does in real life (at least not that consistently and with godlike accuracy) , but even if there was a setter crazy enough to attempt this, it would be kinda pointless, there's no need to. Pros already have other weapons. Kinda like how in the show there's still teams that can beat Karasuno without the freak quick.

fun fact, which you may know as an Aussie where mantis shrimp, like every creature that are both dangerous and unique live
- mantis shrimp have the most complex eyesight we know of. With12 channels of color (humans have 3, red/blue/green primary colors) ,mantis shrimp can see in fields of vision like UV, polarized light, and probably other ways we don't have a clue about. They have a really unique eye structure that kind of works like a barcode scanner. They're more known for their punches (specifically the peacock mantis who have the strongest punch on earth). They throw haymakers that move as fast as a .22 caliber bullet, and create enough force that it can boil the water they're ripping through.
However, unlike humans, apparently shrimp brains aren't able to combine those fields of vision, so they can't see all the wavelengths in between the ones they can see.

Jokes aside, great reaction! I love Hyakuzawa as a character. A simple character arc but a well executed one. You can really tell that he found a new appreciation for the sport and has the competitive mindset to follow through with it from just this one episode.

If you you calculate the ball speed to set like kageyama you understand is unrealistic if the spikers and setter are apart for more than one metre. So when kageyama and hinata do that minus tempo from antenna to antenna is 100% impossible. Then if they cover half the net or less is pretty much phisically unrealistic but somehow possible if the setter is able to set an incredibly fast set that would probably lose accuracy. And only the close one are realistic if you have like an olympic levels team😂. Phisicslly speaking making the ball die with spin is possible, but i dont think a person has the strenght to apply that much spin to the ball and 100% the referee would call it a double just because of the spin. So yeah the minus tempo like in haikyuu is totally impossible. I saw some japanese kids doing it in a legit way, but the spiker was half a metre from the setter.

This doesn't really matter all that much and you can honestly continue to say it however you're comfortable saying it. But I figured I'd just bring it up anyway for linguistic sake since I'm also studying Japanese. So at the end there when you tried to correct your pronunciation of "date tech," your correction actually wasn't correct. Again, not that it really matters. I'm not trying to be nitpicky or call you out or anything lol.
It's an easy mistake to make when your native language is English since "date" is also an English word. But the "date" in "date tech" is actually romaji for "だて" - or "Da Te." It's two syllables. "Da" as you'd say in "Dawn" and "Te" as in "Temple." You can pick it up pretty easily by listening to their school chant: *_"Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Da Te Ko!"_*
