Thanks a lot! I have the Gate latches and handle mechanism lubed and working properly on my 06 Silverado. My issue was taking the black trim piece off without breaking it to access the mechanism. Mine was stuck. All good now. Have a great day.
I’ve had a tailgate issue on my ‘03 for months, lubed and fixed after 30 seconds after watching your video and seeing exactly where to lubricate to free the latch, thanks! Love TH-cam!
Excellent! You sir are definitely a gift to all of us. I first started the video thinking ok...what is this guy going to show me on this tailgate that hasn't already been figured out. Well...hat is off to you sir! Not only did I learn what was wrong with my truck but you taught me much needed info to maintain my tailgate correctly! Thank you very much for sharing this with all of us.
I had the same issue with the handle all seized up and the gate wouldn't latch on an 04 GMC 1500 Sierra XLE. I did everything you did (except for polishing the handle and putting on new bumpers), and now it works like a charm! I just wish I had seen your video first. It would have saved me a bit of legwork figuring it all out.
You sound like a dream mechanic! "don't know, let's order a bunch of expensive parts and mess around for a bit while the clock ticks" sure doesn't sound like your MO!
those tail gates never get any grease or oil in them until they lock up and then people use a crow bar to pop them loose , then the tailgate and bed are messed up..

MissouriOldTimer you nailed it Old Timer! Kinda' like oil changes in push mowers brotha!
Stupid Question: How do I free them up (work them)? My tailgate won't close.
It hasn't latched that good in the 8 years I have owned it!!!!!!
I agree!!!!!! My tailgate wouldn't latch.... After a few generous sprays of penetrating oil, I can now close it with ease....
