Thank you so much for making this video. I was in the middle of learning out my storage when this happened. I needed a quick fix so I used zip ties and it works perfectly. Seem to hold up better than the plastic pieces.
Almost broke my key trying to get the lock to unlock. Figured I would check online to see if anyone had the same problem. Glad I am going to be able to fix it myself. Thanks.
Life saver! I’ve been fighting with my tailgate lock for a year (I got the email from the dealership yesterday congratulating me on a year of ownership) and your video helped me check something off my to do list for this truck.
It ABSOLUTELY WORKED !!. Thank you for your video. Inside latch was frozen, (rust). Penetrating oil and working with it made it like new. Probably saved me 2 to 300 bucks. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I had to do the same thing on my truck about three years ago. Now I open it every two years and add lube. Works like a charm 👍. Be safe and stay healthy.
Good day Sir, yes corrosion is not good for door mechanism,😤🤪 That is why I under coated my car sometimes twice a year !!! What ??? 😜 That what she said LOL 😂😂😂Great fixe and great team work !!!!👍😀
I had a very similar problem with only one side would disengage. After opening up one rod lost its little plastic clip. Easy fix but had to wait for the part to come in. Lol
Thanks for the video . I have a broken plastic 2006 chevy 1500 non- key , non- camera tailgate handle , why does Chevrolet people putting weak plastic handle on tailgate ? Mine handle broke too easy , so how do I replace it with a metal handle on it ? Since I have been calling and searching for metal handle for my chevy silverado they said they don't make any metal handle for chevy , I even wanted a pop up lock on handle for it using only keys to it not hook up to the battery or to the long cable to the driver side handle that operate like a manual hood unlocking from the driver side .
The plastic is very cheap for sure. I was able to buy a few other items like the console latch on Amazon. It was a plastic replacement part but the quality was a little better so maybe you will get lucky on eBay or Amazon with a quality plastic replacement part instead of going to the Chevy dealer. Much cheaper too!
This was on the 'to-do' list for a while so glad I finally got it done! Best part is, it cost NOTHING but a little of my time :-) Rich

Great job. I’ve got the exact same problem. Gonna take it apart tomorrow.

Definitely on the list from now on.
Could you have soaked the latch and lock in vinegar to get rid of the rust?

@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid Yes it is a lot of work, but for keeping your investment a long time, it is a must !!! Cheers !!!
