Man, this is how demos are supposed to be! Andy is so good, not just because of the perfect playing and great variety of tones/feels but also because he clearly looks up all details/specs and clearly demonstrates all of them. My pet peeve is when someone shows off a piece of gear that they clearly haven't even bothered to read the manual for. They end up missing key features or even stating incorrect things. Huge props on this video and kudos to Orange for putting together another real killer amp!
The first review of this amplifier that I can actually appreciate. Great playing, my friend. I still think my next purchase is going to be a Rocker 30 head to go with my OR 15 and Rocker 32. This amp sounds killer, though, no doubt about it. 🤘🏿🤘🏿
I’ve been wanting an OR15 head for a while. How do you like it compared with the Rocker 32? I keep going back and forth between whether a single or two channel amp would be best. A single channel seems like it may be the best way to get the driven Orange tone I want without compromise. I use quite a few pedals typically so I imagine there will be some changes that I would need to make with the OR15. However getting all or much of my dirt from the amp would be fine with me and likely sound better than what I currently use pedals to achieve. I just wonder how it would handle things like a treble booster (Ananlogman Beano Boost), Big Muffs, and fuzzes like a Tone Bender MkII or Ge Fuzz Face.
@@ggar9623 I pretty much use mine for one thing only. Stoner/Doom metal in C# - B. I dont run a lot of effects in front of it outside a 6b eq and OD pedal...The low end can get flubby, and 10b eq in the FX loop. I just kinda let the amp be itself. The Presence control is really good. I dont mess with the light switch much. And its plenty loud. Very loud for 30w. But for what I ask it to do, its great.
@@ABoyd1852 thanks, i would use It for classic and heavy rock, but anyway i cant afford It, i already bought an expensive Fender combo a couple of years ago , but i just love this Orange crunch tone, its like a more rounded and beeffier Marshall, anyway thanks for the info
Not really cheap for a single channel amp, but awesomely sounding! The Bright switch seems to add some more, really nice Plexi treble bite, if wished, and the clean(er) Orange sounds I anyway always preferred over any Fender or Vox, as they sound more earthy and organically and less kitschy. Marshall-killer, I would say. Definitely one of the best sounding new amps, I've heard for a long time.
The cost of being made in the UK, nearly all other single channel amps of this style are made overseas these days. It's similar in price/cheaper at least in australia than a lot of other amps made in england such as the Marshall 2203 reissue.
@@JimijaymesProductions I have no idea about Australian prices, as i'm living in Europe. In Europe the OR30 is about EUR 2000,- and the 2203 about 1800,-. Even a 1959 SLP HW only costs 1500,-. But concerning sonic flexibility and gain range the OR30 seems to be the best choice nevertheless for me.
@@HEZ63 I mean 200 euros difference puts it in the same price bracket which was more my point. I expect a UK made amp to be between 1.5 and 2.5k euros if that's the best reference point.
Amazing tone and playing as always And!y - my initial thoughts as an OR15 owner are you can get some Marshally tones through this. Feature wise, would like to see an LED when boost activated
@@BrewReview😂 The reason is connected to contracts building the amps in China. Orange fulfilled their contracts and has so many or15 and rocker terror 15 amps on deck they had to wait to sell some of that stock.
I hereby call this amp the Orange OREO solely based on the name, but I’m genuinely surprised that Orange hasn’t produced anything in that long in the UK
They’ve made quite a few new amps in that time, tremlord 30, super crush 100, rocker 15, Brent hinds terror and some more I’m missing but this is the first new UK made amp in 8 years
The rockerverb MK3 combo neo is made in the UK, although I'm guessing since the big changes to that were the neodymium speakers and the lighter weight cab construction they're not necessarily counting that as a new amplifier.
I always mic a 1x12 Creamback loaded Hamstead cab and mix with the OX’s virtual 4x12 for extra realism/space. *The last example was a bit different since the amp was in the studio so it was direct into a TwoNotes Captor X. Thanks!
I like it. But weirdly it's left me fancying an OR15. I always felt that the EL84s in the 15 were likely a compromise, but seeing them in the 30 sort of legitimises the 15.
@@jaquesels581they're different. OR15 is relatively modern. The OR30 is more vintage, but with a lot of gain. This gets a great Sabbath tone without needing a treble booster. I did try it with a clone of the Rangemaster and it's so awesome. With the gain at 11, a treble booster or even a fuzz just pop and get huge sounds. It's amazing.
I was wondering the same thing, I have the AD30. The OR30 seems a little more home friendly + it has an effect loop, but maybe a little less tonal options gain-wise? Definitely interested in it though!
I have the amp. It's much quieter at 2W. You can crank the master volume and it gets really loud again. Aside from really pushing the power amp if you want to, it still sounds killer. It's easier to dial in a sweet spot for the bedroom in 2W mode. 30W mode can very quickly go from not enough to louder than your bedroom can probably contain. This amp makes me want to build another set of walls in my playing room to isolate it from the outside.
Remember that awesome Union Jack Rockerverb that PGS had back in the day? And all the Humboldt Hot Rods? And back when Jeorge was still making Way Huge pedals. Why doesn’t cool stuff like that happen anymore? All that fun limited edition stuff all these companies used to do. Nostalgia. The guitar industry has really fallen off and it’s depressing.
That’s the hard part about gear reviews! There’s no way in hell I would sound like this with the same set up as Andy. He’s just an amazing player and can probably make anything sound good
I bought a Hagstrom Viking baritone back in the day after watching Andy play one. It's still my go to pick up and play guitar. The pickups are so good. I run it through an Orange BH Terror, a Victory Sheriff 22, and 2 2x12 Victtory Creamback cabs. I'm such a TH-cam whore.
yikes, listening in the studio, when you went to the Humbuckers, man I thought the sound was muddy, and lacked definition. the overdrive sounded like it was sitting on top of the bass note fundamental. Normally I like Orange, but not this amp based on what I heard. Muddy, ill-defined sound. If I was into Sludge I might go for it.
The sound you’re describing is what I’ve experienced with my OR15. Incredible for vintage gainy sound but back off the gain and single coils are thin and humbuckers are muddy.
I think he didn't record this amp well, it needs a different recording chain, starting at the choice of cab. Using trebly guitars doesn't help either. Other demos show much better qualities of the same amp.
My setup has been consistent for the last few years: Royer 121 mic on a 1x12 Creamback cab mixed with the OX signal (usually a virtual 4x12 for extra realism and space)
Doesn't seem to do well with a strat. Definitely better with Les Paul. That's only thing I can tell from my speakers. Not sure how magical it sounds in person. It may very well sound fine on a strat in person, just never seems to come across in the multiple videos I've seen.
Dude, I need this box! Is it true bypass? Does it have a sweet spot? Is it transgender friendly? Nonbinary? Covid compatible? Can it get Eddy's "Smells like teen spirit" tone? Asking for a friend
