What's the purpose of the nails weld through? Is it to add strength in between the space?
Mainly to prevent the metal from warping. Usually, the alternative is to weld the steel sheet to the frame which warps the door.
Why do people use grinders with no guard. Particularly in US.
There easy to turn or take off if you need to. Those thin cutting disc's are easily broken while your not using it,
if you have no guard on the grinder. There's the saftey issues , but most of all it's slow. As you can't put the grinder down, while it's winding down.

Door looks great but not that great for heat/cold insulation...
Sure thing! It'd actually be a whole new project. This door is meant for the workshop, so we didn't really think about insulating it.
