“Protection fees” are usually more a threat of violence from the party doing protecting and their job was to protect them from outsiders not get involved in civil matters fighting hody wasn’t part of their end of the bargain
Pretection fees are not for actual guarding, the idea was always "These people are under my protection, if anything happens to them, something will happen to you". Most famously used by the original Sicylian mafia during lawless time os Sicyly

I am seeing zebras if you ask me about the bottom of her heart, but definitely different with kaido. One thing for sure, who ever wants power would marry her, and would be dumped when they become powerless, while big mom pirates grow stronger, and she is a typical type that "I am not in danger, I am danger" can fit as part of her character.

The fact that you have to fear big mom for her power to work and that her power works on herself (as she uses her soul for prometheus, zeus and napoleon) implies that big mom is scared of herself. This is probably just a plot hole but I like to think that deep down she is aware that something is wrong with her (this would explain why she doesn't even question the fact that everything is destroyed after her hunger pangs, even though it's implied that she isn't aware of her condition) and that causes her to fear herself. Kind of ironic that she is so powerful that she even scares herself
Here's my theory on how Big Mom got Mother Carmel's fruit. As we know Big Mom knocked Mother Carmel and the other people who attended her birthday with Haoshoku (Conquerer) Haki. Then she ate them because she was tripping the f*** out from all of those good food. But my theory is that while eating Mother Carmel, Big Mom was also shoving down the REAL food down her throat, and we can even see in the scenes that there cakes with FRUITS as topings, and there is a LOT of fruits used to add flavors and decorate the sweets. So the devil escaped Mother Carmel's body and reincarnates into the nearest fruit, which happened to be in Big Mom's stomach. So Big Mom just technically ate a devil fruit.
Small fix, Streussen was not the only one who witnessed it, that one giant witnessed it also and told that to Elbaf giants that's why they don't utter the name Linlin out of they mouth and have beef with her

I’m a bit late. But it’s possible that Carmel or another child that she ate had a fruit on them (we know that the closest fruit changes) and when she died immediately changed and got digested by LinLin
The sad thing about Linlin is her hinted backstory of being the survivor of experiments for giantification. The hints are dropped all over by Oda leading up to her story introduction. The PunkHazard arc with the drugged children and the fact she was working with Caesar Clown to gigantify her own children are subtle hints dropped. Then the obvious hints are her unnatural size and strength as a child along with the addictive tendencies. Her secret backstory is that she likely was being experimented on for gigantification research from soon after her birth. They likely fed her the drugs in the form of candies and sweets. I like to imagine that she was the first and only success the researches had but she became so uncontrollably strong that she destroyed the research facility. So with this as her hidden but implied birth-5 year old backstory. When her story picks up at 5 years old I tend to view the rest of her life as a tragedy because she doesn’t even know what was done to her, where her strength, and addictive personality comes from. She is unaware of the horrible things she does and the pain that was caused to her over and over again in her life came from her broken childhood.
I don't think anyone has noticed or acknowledged this yet, so I'll do it. Several of Big Mom's Children were on the Rocks Pirate's ship before the crew disbanded.

Not to mention he has been featured in two flashbacks, his mention in Pedro's 101, and his shared penchant for musical numbers, which would all provide additional material to spice up his role in the WCI arc. As for his design and personality inspirations, PeroSpero is based on two characters created by Roald Dahl: Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Child Catcher from the film version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I make the distinction as Dahl wrote the screenplay for "Chitty" and the Child Catcher was NOT in the original book version.

One of the greatest tragedies of Big Mom was her utter ignorance of what she had. Her whole desire to grow strong enough to make her dream come true of a world where everyone is treated equally, no matter what they looked like, giving up all her morals for this dream, becoming evil just to grow stronger then everyone else, just to have the power to make her dream of a world of total equality of people come true, everything she did led to her becoming so jaded, that by the time she was literally handed Fish-Man Island, after Whitebeard's death, on a silver platter, she had no idea or appreciation of what she had been given. During the Hody/Hordy Jones / Fish-Man Island arc, the straw hats were literally told that the entire society followed the dream Big Mom was trying to achieve. Everyone was born different, yet everyone was treated equal, fish-man or not. Had she realized what she had, with her power, she could have been one of the greatest factors in helping the fish-men gain the equal rights they desired, and could have gone down in history as a hero and a legend to all races. Instead, in her utter jaded ignorance, all she had was a new piece of property to make her candy, to increase her power to make her dream come true, for something she already had.

It hasn't been revealed yet. Her parents are normal, so she isn't a giant. Sometimes characters are 'mini giants', much taller than normal humans but not part of the giant race. Whitebeard is an example of this on the shorter end. I believe Big Mom falls into this category by a meter or so. Not quite official giant height but massive. We have no confirmed idea why some characters are human but have weird heights.
The reason why the giants resent her is so heartbreaking they loved their leader who was killed by linlin then proceed to eat her mother who was held a saint by the giants and her friends

Charlotte Linlin makes me sad because she reminds of this little girl I once knew who had an eating disorder to coop with how her parents abused her for her extreme autism. How could Linlin take Mother Carmel's Devil Fruit by eating her.....when if it's true that when a person dies, their Devil Fruit appears somewhere else in the world?
I’m a bit late. But it’s possible that Carmel or another child that she ate had a fruit on them (we know that the closest fruit changes) and when she died immediately changed and got digested by LinLin
A devil fruit power moves from the body to a nearby fruit upon death, however she ate Carmel before the power could pass on
The sad thing about Linlin is her hinted backstory of being the survivor of experiments for giantification.
The hints are dropped all over by Oda leading up to her story introduction. The PunkHazard arc with the drugged children and the fact she was working with Caesar Clown to gigantify her own children are subtle hints dropped. Then the obvious hints are her unnatural size and strength as a child along with the addictive tendencies.
Her secret backstory is that she likely was being experimented on for gigantification research from soon after her birth. They likely fed her the drugs in the form of candies and sweets. I like to imagine that she was the first and only success the researches had but she became so uncontrollably strong that she destroyed the research facility.
So with this as her hidden but implied birth-5 year old backstory. When her story picks up at 5 years old I tend to view the rest of her life as a tragedy because she doesn’t even know what was done to her, where her strength, and addictive personality comes from. She is unaware of the horrible things she does and the pain that was caused to her over and over again in her life came from her broken childhood.

I was just watching 2Spooky's analysis of the Big Mom family, including Big Mom herself before her brood of a whopping 85 children was unpacked. It's nice that you kept a fairly impartial script while describing the "pink kaiju witch baby", as I call her, while emphasizing the insidious nature behind the things she has been manipulated into doing because of lack of discipline. #blameCarmel #blameStreusen #OPasfudge
P.S. When you think about it, having 85 children over 42 child bearing years means an average of roughly 2.024 children per year. This fulfills the domestic fantasy of "2 kids, a picket fence and a dog" innumerable times over. More than 10 children possess Devil Fruit powers and every one of the Charlottes that are between the ages of 15 (Flambé) and 50 (PeroSpero) are members of the crew and/or ministers of islands.
P.P.S. I would love to see a 101 about PeroSpero one day, as he is one of the key shepherds to Big Mom's "sheep like simple-mindedness" in her adult life. Not to mention he has been featured in two flashbacks, his mention in Pedro's 101, and his shared penchant for musical numbers, which would all provide additional material to spice up his role in the WCI arc. As for his design and personality inspirations, PeroSpero is based on two characters created by Roald Dahl: Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Child Catcher from the film version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I make the distinction as Dahl wrote the screenplay for "Chitty" and the Child Catcher was NOT in the original book version.

One of the greatest tragedies of Big Mom was her utter ignorance of what she had.
Her whole desire to grow strong enough to make her dream come true of a world where everyone is treated equally, no matter what they looked like, giving up all her morals for this dream, becoming evil just to grow stronger then everyone else, just to have the power to make her dream of a world of total equality of people come true, everything she did led to her becoming so jaded, that by the time she was literally handed Fish-Man Island, after Whitebeard's death, on a silver platter, she had no idea or appreciation of what she had been given.
During the Hody/Hordy Jones / Fish-Man Island arc, the straw hats were literally told that the entire society followed the dream Big Mom was trying to achieve. Everyone was born different, yet everyone was treated equal, fish-man or not. Had she realized what she had, with her power, she could have been one of the greatest factors in helping the fish-men gain the equal rights they desired, and could have gone down in history as a hero and a legend to all races.
Instead, in her utter jaded ignorance, all she had was a new piece of property to make her candy, to increase her power to make her dream come true, for something she already had.

It hasn't been revealed yet. Her parents are normal, so she isn't a giant. Sometimes characters are 'mini giants', much taller than normal humans but not part of the giant race. Whitebeard is an example of this on the shorter end. I believe Big Mom falls into this category by a meter or so. Not quite official giant height but massive. We have no confirmed idea why some characters are human but have weird heights.
The reason why the giants resent her is so heartbreaking they loved their leader who was killed by linlin then proceed to eat her mother who was held a saint by the giants and her friends
Big mom didn't create prometheus, prometheus was created before the abilities was passed on. She became the new Master of prometheus

I feel like it would be really dope and fitting if Oda gave Big Mom a redemption arc, like he did with Buggy. She would be an excellent ally against the World Government, if somehow she regained her sanity. She also probably knows more information about Raftel and about the One Piece itself.
