  • My new folding phone just arrived... Do it yourself style. Check out the worlds thinnest book style folding phone, the Honor Magic V2 HERE: www.hihonor.com/global/phones... and huge thanks to honor for sponsoring this video. It's pretty mind blowing how thin and light a flagship folding phone can get! The Honor Magic V2 is just 9.9mm thick and weights only 231 grams! #HONORMagicV2 #IFA23 #HONORIFA2023 #UnfoldTomorrow

    • @daruyami
      @daruyami 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +85

      Actually it's the reverse - they would have to disassemble already assembled phones. The same happens with the Framework laptops - they need to assemble them first to test if they work like they should (and if they even are assemblable in the first place, defects happen) and then if you chose the disassembled version then they have to disassemble them. There somewhere was LTTs video where he has shown the factory of Framework laptops where he also explains this process.

      As a nerd I would kill to be able to do that but warranty liability would like to have a word with us.
      Other than that, I would see this as an absolute win since production costs can be reduced by cutting out on assembly. However, this may counter-intuitively not always be the case.
      Framework for example, will sell you a diy kit for their laptop where you have to assemble it yourself (or at least populate the barebones parts like storage, ram and networking) but as the somewhat recent factory tour by ltt showed, they still need to assemble, and then in some cases even DISassemble the device in the factory for qa and test purposes, meaning that it actually is more time and resource-intensive to have such a diy offering.

    I've had my ZFold 4 since launch morning and I love it. I would highly recommend a folding phone as a daily phone. I'd always wanted one since the first model came out back in 2019 and finally got one in 2022. It still blows my mind and I'm not sure I'll ever go back to a traditional single-screen phone

    • @SergioEduP
      @SergioEduP 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I also own a z fold 4 and love it. But I would not recommend it for most people, it is a really cool and impressive piece of tech but 99% of people would not make any use of the hardware, and would only use it to show off and brag. There is no need for a device on the cutting edge just to mindlessly scroll on tiktok. That said I will probably never go back to single screen phones either.

      @htsunmiku 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SergioEduP precisely. 4 user also. I highly recommend it but only to people who are 100% sure it's what they want. The price is still up there for a concept that's still working itself out. I'd say we're almost there tho.

      Right? I bought Z Flip 3 thinking I'd just try it and if it breaks, it breaks. Wouldn't you know it, damn thing is still going strong after few falls that ended up with scratched edges and daily use. They're much more resilient that they seem.

    • @michaelerdmier1311
      @michaelerdmier1311 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tyrannosaurus_x I agree. I've dropped mine pretty good a few times and I haven't scratched either screen or outside and it functions perfectly fine. The 1 issue I had was the built-in screen protector on the inside screen that got airbubbles after 9 months and I removed it with no issues.

    • @tyrannosaurus_x
      @tyrannosaurus_x 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelerdmier1311Same here with screen protector on Z Flip 3. I eventually just removed thinking I'd get a new one eventually but seeing that it works fine and protector wasn't damaged until its removal, I can't be bothered xD

      It is a possibility, since US government’s policies forced HUAWEI to let go Honor as a subsidiary. Now they are no longer affiliated. But hey, there aren’t a lot open-minded Murican politicians anyways. Chinese companies are now trying very hard to not launch anything in the US cuz they might get too successful and that will draw attention to the US government 😬

    I actually love this concept of buying a phone pre disassembled. Wish it were a option! It'd make it so much more fun for people like me when your new phone arrives. Just unboxing it and having a pre assembled unit is exiting, yes, because new phone, but it can be boring, missing a personal factor. I myself love to dig around in the guts of phones, and to be able to actually order one and build it yourself would honestly be the cherry on top the unboxing experience is lacking for me.
